BroniePologist over on Deviant Art has used the data collected during Bronystudy to create a huge analysis/chart of our little fandom. A good mount of it is raw data collected from the surveys, including percentages of population based on Continent, and sexual orientation. I know a lot of you are curious about that sort of thing considering all the Google Analytics requests I receive each week, and this compiles it into an easy to read chart!
I will comment that some of the sub categories seem a bit opinionated, but It's still a fun one to browse through.
Check it out here!

Another one, huh?
ReplyDeletecool
ReplyDeleteDATA!
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteSo. Much. Text.
ReplyDeleteI'll read later.
Dang, I am a pretty low percentage
ReplyDeleteThis is insanely comprehensive, they have all my respect for doing this.
ReplyDeletenaw dang
ReplyDeleteNeat.
ReplyDeleteI sense a disdain for hipsters in there.
ReplyDeleteI think I saw this already. SCOOTALOO is best pony.
ReplyDeleteThis text is too small for me to read on my phone. I might come back to this later on a computer.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff. I found the "Unhappy" group the most interesting of all.
ReplyDeleteWow. Simply wow. :D
ReplyDeleteWhoa. So much test. This will be an interesting read. I think it's awesome that someone did this. ^^
ReplyDeleteSo...... I'm an unhappy moderate brony.
ReplyDeleteJust went through the whole thing, and it's just packed with interesting info. Yes, it's a long read but it was definitely worth a look. Hats off for the time and dedication required in putting this together.
ReplyDeleteI'm honestly impressed they even touched clopfics, let alone went into that detail. And they pretty much nailed it.
ReplyDeleteAre there really Brony "hipsters"?
ReplyDeleteI've just never seen any evidence of that.
I'm pretty sure a less complete version of this was already posted here before, a long while back. I remember most of this chart. However, it's cool to see some stuff added to it!
ReplyDeleteNone of the archtypes fit me perfectly, but apparently I'm a "Secret Brony"
ReplyDeleteI found Australia comprising 7% of the fandom a little surprising, didn't think it would be quite that high (relatively speaking).
ReplyDeleteWow, that was good. Really makes sense. I wish I'd meet more real life bronies. I'm just glad everything about this show seems to have a positive impact
ReplyDeleteMost impressive. This just awesome the amount of time and effort put into this is just astounding. It's definitely worth reading. I learned quite a bit. Thank you very much for the study and posting the results. It was quite informative .
ReplyDeleteapparently im in the middle of social brony and secret brony
ReplyDeletei dont hide it as my labtop has been ponyized wallpaper and all, i watched the show because Lauren Faust had a hand in fosters and PPG so yea, but i dont feel the need to tell the world im a brony mostly because the world is on a spiraling collapse to chaos and financial collapse town
While I definitely started watching the show based off the "moderate" group. My love for the show definitely grew since I started to go with the unhappy group.
ReplyDeleteWhile I haven't been very social with other bronies, the show alone can always put me in a good mood. Especially with a lot of the parodies, such as Poniator's stuff and Epic Cupcake time.
That was a pretty interesting analysis but it sure hurt my eyes to read! I see spots.
ReplyDeleteThis was really cool. I like how much detail and data was put into the project. :3
ReplyDeleteLove to see more of this kinda stuff pop up now and again, I'm a sucker for information. :P
A very well put together presentation of the fandom. I had no idea that some of these subgroups existed until they were brought to light by this. Just goes to show that this community has so much to offer with its variety of various people with different personalities that make up the brony community. Can't wait to see what we'll do next. :D
ReplyDeleteWoona would approve of this *nods*
ReplyDeleteWhy would you post this? That guy is the worst.
ReplyDeleteImpressive. Actually reading the chart is a bit of a pain, though. I would've preferred a simple text version.
ReplyDeleteVery organize information! It turns out that I am a Moderate-Independent-Brony! :P
ReplyDeleteJust finished the poll. Can't read the Text on my phone but damn, that was one thorough poll.
ReplyDeleteanyone else noticed a MLP toddler toothpaste ad around here? I saw it and was like 'FORGET IT KIDS ITS MINE'
ReplyDeletei guess im a moderate-unhappy. never really saw myself as unhappy but i do seek immersion in alot of different things
ReplyDeleteThat whole 'unhappy brony' thing, man that is pretty sad, but I am glad to hear that MLP is cheering these people up :) Anyway that was a good informative read!
ReplyDeleteA very good assessment of the community, though if it were me making one, I would not be so nice...
ReplyDeleteThis picture is too much for my Soviet Russia internet.
ReplyDeleteI can't see where I fit in... I got into the show because I was frustrated with the Thundercats toys that were made and I grabbed a Princess Celestia and a Rainbow Dash since I was at the Times Square Toys R Us on vacation and felt like it would be a waste to go home empty handed. I knew who Rainbow Dash was because of the 20% cooler stuff floating around, but aside from that I was ignorant of the memes surrounding the show. I felt a bit bad that I bought a toy without knowing what the show was all about so I went ahead and checked out the first episode and marathon-ed the rest that I had missed. Primarily I'm a toy collector? Well otherwise that's a lot of work and very cool!
ReplyDeleteI'm about to age out of the 16-20 year-old-group this June. Kinda feels weird.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure a large portion of the fandom is college-aged, so these numbers will likely change as the show gains popularity/more seasons are made.
Interesting infographic. The statistics are solid, but one of the PGDs [Pony Graphic Designers] coulda make it look a like slicker.
Um... This is generally nice but it's more like an opinion than an actual study when it comes to describing brony population, though it's based on a solid study. For example, I read here like the 20th description of an "Independent Brony" and while they are usually based on the same study, most of them are contradicting.
ReplyDeleteGoing offtop a little, there's one thing about bronies that genuinely scares me. At first I thought that it was a marginal group but now it seems to be growing. I mean "extremely passive in real life bronies". They would be a part of the "unhappy" group here.
What shocked me lately was a youtube video and a comment below it. It was a happy PMV but the comment was more important. A guy stated there that he has a friend who was getting beaten up at school on everyday basis. He was so tormented that he was considering killing himself. Then the person commenting sent him that PMV, he watched it, felt better and did not think about suicide anymore. The moral was that the commentator has saved his friend's life with that video. There were like 150 "likes" of this comment.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!
A friend of yours is being assaulted. His life is being turned into misery by some, let's call it by its name, criminals and the best you can do is sending him a pony music video? Seriously? Are you kidding me? And if your sister was getting raped you'd sent her a Pinkie Pie-styled invitation to a party?!
This is another study that touches real problems and gives as an answer ridiculous suggestions to go to brony websites etc. When someone is physically abused or emotionally abused (mobbed), he/she needs real help. Call the police ffs. Schools are obliged to react - report the problem to them. Damn, can't you simply gang up and beat up these bullies if it's a minor school problem? I completely don't get it and I'm writing all this bullshit because I was talking a lot with random people on youtube about that and they usually support the "don't help your friend and send him ponies" attitude.
This is awesome :D
ReplyDeleteAnother day another useless brony study.
ReplyDeleteWhat Bombedumbum said. That's what I say.
ReplyDeleteHow many here is in the over 30 group?
ReplyDeleteI will be 39 this Christmas.
I approve.
ReplyDeletehuh, well this is convenient, I have a paper to write about bronies and now i have a decent source. couldn't find decent demographics before either.
ReplyDeletewhat a shame,my continent has only 2% of the bronies...
ReplyDeleteanyway, great work!
hmmm...if i'm in africa does that make me the 1%?
ReplyDeletemy country got 1% of bronies :(
ReplyDelete7% of bronies in Australia? That's slightly higher than the percentages above my post.
ReplyDeleteAlso tl;dr, MLP Tales is late G1 not G2 but no one cares.
Yeah, it's cool, but it's an infograph, not a study result. One of these days, I would love to see a real, honest-to-Celestia study on bronies and our subculture, preferably by CalTech or something like that.
ReplyDeleteHey, UT bronies, get the Humanities department on that!
@Maquabra
ReplyDeleteYeah that makes sense. Something that can make you happy makes someone feel better about themselves. I've had bouts of depression and I know what it feels like. What if it was some other video that made him feel better, would you feel annoyed about that too? Sure he needs help but that person has to do that for himself (with friends/family help). You're the kind of person that makes me turn away from this fanbase. Also, "the sister raped" example was extremely stupid because I doubt anyone would send anything to a person like that. Just makes me shake my head.
Sweet Celestia that was amazing. Informative as well. The only thing that kinda disappointed me is MLP is somehow bigger in Africa than it is in Asia. How does that work? Still great job to the people who put this together, wish Hasbro could see this (it'd probably help them with business)
ReplyDeleteI seem to be a Moderate Hidden/Secret Brony. (My wife knows) in the upper end of the age bracket. Back to lurking now.
ReplyDeletewow that is some deep analysis you got there
ReplyDeleteInteresting analysis but my eyes, MY EYES.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't really seem all that accurate.
ReplyDeleteand thus we have now discovered the cure for suicide MLP:FIM
ReplyDeleteI find it neat that almost 10% of the people surveyed are asexual, and yet we make up under 1% of the total population. We even had a bigger percent than homosexual folks. Wow.
ReplyDelete@Maquabra
ReplyDeleteWhile I whole-heartedly agree with "Get them real help," I do have to say your criticism is based on the fallacy that the two approaches are mutually exclusive. Yes, call the police, call the school, call the parents and counselors. But I see nothing wrong with also forwarding pony related content to cheer them up. It really does seem to work wonders.
I lightly glanced over some of it, since it is rather long. I see some things I wouldn't consider real accurate, and some things that I would consider pretty close. And I keep close tabs on some statistical things in the community myself.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good base, but I fit into many aspects of the different subcultures.
ReplyDeleteI'm an unhappy/secret/creative Brony.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a good amount of information to use and tell your friends about what is a " Brony " and a little more information about the show. And I've learned a lot more about bronies even tho im one of them. lolz
ReplyDeleteI cant read it! it's too damn small and oh there's a click here button....
ReplyDeleteThis is very interesting. I am not sure of the accuracy all the info as I have been a brony for about a month and have not had much time to observe, but regardless of the accuracy it is certainly though provoking and a good starting point for discussion. Congratulations and thank you to the creator for all the hard work you put into it.
ReplyDeleteFrankly I don't find any of these surveys very useful; the links to them get posted in the nerdy parts of the internet and then, wow, big surprise, the results come back and reflect the demographics of the nerd communities.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to see someone gathering this type of info ask people on the established female-dominated MLP forums to participate.
Basically, big sampling problems, my friend, right here in River City, with a capitcal P that rhymes with B that stands for Bias*.
*in the scientific sense
Social Moderate here! :)
