First!
ReplyDeleteAdditional tags says it all. I wonder if this will be anything like Allegrezza?
ReplyDeleteTaviScratch shipping is always good.
ReplyDelete>Manehatten
ReplyDeleteWrong town. lol
But oh no, another one! *flees in terror*
Also, this interests me. Ive never read a TaviScratch.
ReplyDeleteOctaScratch is always good.
ReplyDelete@Octavia Eh, maybe you two just got tired of the high class ponies over in Canterlot? Yay for OctiScratch, best ship out there!
ReplyDelete2 ratings and 3stars
ReplyDeletereally guys? <.<
Ah, VinylTavia, my OTP. Time to get reading.
ReplyDeleteTaviScratch, best shipping in my humble opinion. I always have been a sucker for the odd couple pairings.
ReplyDelete@crazyBE
ReplyDeleteI swear we now have random vote down people stalking the blog, I guess that means the blog is truly legit now :/
Couldn't think of anything to comment on.
ReplyDeleteStory looks nice
@Hydra
ReplyDeleteoh, we've had worse. like the one guy who'd put out between 10-20 1 stars.
@crazyBE just because something is rated low, doesn't mean it is the result of paraspriting. it is possible for things to be legitimately bad. THis site is plagued by star inflation, so if people started rating things what they actually should be, that would be a good thing.
ReplyDeleteOctavia Tremolando? Not sure about that surname :/
ReplyDelete@wackypony
ReplyDeleteWasn't that you?
@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeleteThis is true, but when the 1-stars start coming in less than two minutes after the fic's posted...
@wackypony
ReplyDeleteI cant say im sorry to have missed that one.
I'll read this before I get into Allegrezza.
ReplyDelete@Sir_cxyrtyx Yes, but he learned his lesson, apologised, and all that stuff.
ReplyDeleteUntil I publish it, the "true" Octavia story has yet to be heard. ;)
ReplyDeleteBoy, did that ever sound cocky. It wasn't meant to sound quite so brash. I'm kidding anyway. Or am I? Who knows!
Not much for shipping… but it sounds good… but I have to finish an assignment… ahh, can't read nao!
ReplyDeleteThe word "anybody" is thrown around a lot instead of "anypony".
ReplyDelete@sellyme
ReplyDeleteYeah, "Philharmonica" from another Octavia fic (might have been "Allegrezza", but I'm not sure) or "Pie", if you subscribe to the theory that Pinkie and Octavia are related are better than "Tremolando". Maybe "Tremolo" or "Tremando", but not "Tremolando".
@YetAnotherBrony
ReplyDeleteHowever, "Buch" and "Tchaiklopsky" are *very* clever. Kudos to you!
@sellyme
ReplyDeleteDammit, I knew I missed a handful. Ponifying terms is hard, man.
Awesome, I love these Taviscratch fics.
ReplyDelete@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeletemayyyybbbeeee. <.<
@Obscurica
ReplyDeleteyou have to think in pony. I sometimes catch myself thinking "everypony" or "anypony" in non-pony related settings. This is normal right?
@Sir_cxyrtyx Eeeyup
ReplyDelete@Sir_cxyrtyx I was talking to a friend a while back at school(doesn't even know about bronies). He asked if World War Z was an autobiography, and I responded: "Equestria War Z..." and nearly fell off of the high computer chair I was on after recoiling from realising what I'd just said.
ReplyDeleteThink pony, man... think pony.
Fantastic first chapter, good sir. Especially loved how you described Vinyl and Octavia's experience when first hearing each other's music. Beautiful stuff.
ReplyDeleteLoved the characterizations as well. Even though she's an OC pony, Ruby really holds her own as a character. Will be keeping an eye out for new chapters.
I'm really enjoying the angle here. I look forward to the updates.
ReplyDelete@Jelfes the same thing has happened to me. I think that we have already talked about this, though. I was telling my mentor that the word "brofist" (made famous by the Obamas, ya right) had been added to the dictionary, when out slipped the word "brohoof". I had never said that word out loud before in my life, yet I had said it then. I was sitting on a rolling chair, and I recoiled (blasted) back at least fifteen feet before falling over. Good thing they had no idea what I was talking about, though......
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeletenow what if i was stepping and taking the blame for somepony else?
oh, how i wish scratch was male, and would justify my reading these taviscratch fics! (i adamantly refuse to read same-sex shipping)
ReplyDelete@Ashfire
ReplyDeletewhy? actually, i can't say anything. i almost adamantly refuse to read straight shipping.
PART 2 !!! WHERE IS IT !?!?
ReplyDelete@wackypony
ReplyDeleteit's nothing against gays or lesbians, it's just that in my head, same parts don't go together. i might possibly read one if i have nothing else to read. i will read one before reading something grimdark...
@Alexaroth
ReplyDeleteWorking on it! I wrote this chapter of Remix between chapters of Arcadia, and Arcadia gets worked on when I'm not at work. So, as you can imagine, there's a bit of a delay in output.
@Ashfire meh, I don't like shipping either. That's why I stopped reading Allegrezza when things started getting shippy.
ReplyDelete@wackypony I wonder why.......>.>
@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteHow can you not like shipping? It's very nearly the only kind of fanfic i will read. (I make an exception for sci-fi)
Hm. Read so many TaviScratch (some unfinished) that my headcanon's all screwed up by now...meh, might as well screw it up further.
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeletei would love some straight shipping. i was thrilled with the macinshy pairing found in 'it takes a village'
@Ashfire
ReplyDeleteI find straight shipping to be, well, boring to be honest.
@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeletewhat's the difference, other than the gender preferences of the couple in question?
More... I need more!
ReplyDelete@Ashfire
ReplyDeleteThat is a good question. I'm not sure i can answer it.
Perhaps you should ask yourself the same thing?
@Ashfire
ReplyDeleteA heaping truckload of baggage. Identity, personal and public image, expectations of kin, friends and society, etc ad nauseum.
Relationships are hard. Sculpting out how a pair of people see and react to each other in a way that's more realistic than Sparkly Vampires requires at least some rudimentary appreciation for the environmental factors that goes into the substance of both individuals, and balancing out both the ideals of the characters internal and external to the story, and the realities they live in.
It's also a matter of our source material. Other than Big Macintosh, to some extent, we have essentially zero male characters with any kind of canon character development. So it's much easier to ship the characters who are very well developed and have existing relationships.
ReplyDelete@Obscurica
ReplyDeletei'm not actually sure what you're saying relative to my question...
@Sir_cxyrtyx
well, that's what i'm saying. it's the gender preferences of the couple in question that keep me away from same sex shipping. otherwise, i don't see a difference.
@Obscurica
ReplyDeletenevermind, i understand now. you said basically the same thing that whiteout said, yes?
@Ashfire
ReplyDeleteYour question was, in summary, "what's the difference between straight/homosexual shipping?"
And the answer is "A lot. As is the difference between most relationships."
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Whiteout
ReplyDeletethat being said, your point is kinda moot with the above fanfic in question. neither scratch nor octavia is really developed at all, canonwise.
@Ashfire
ReplyDeleteyou do have a point there. and no, you cant delete your comment before i see it.
@Obscurica
ReplyDeletealso, reading my question in context, i was asking why he wouldn't read straight shipping as opposed to same-sex shipping.
@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeletejust adding post reference tags... great celestia, i miss the edit button.
@Ashfire
ReplyDeleteI just wish it would actually delete posts, instead of just erasing the contents.
Derp.
ReplyDelete@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeletewell, i suppose if i had some extreme form of OCD, i could always track down a mod, and have them remove it completely.
Maybe we should stop, this isn't a chatroom after all. though, we're certainly treating it like one. ( Not as bad as Bombedrumbum and Jelfes though)
ReplyDeleteheh, you weren't kidding XD
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteI swear you write more on EqD than Seth, Cereal, Phoe, and Tek combined. How do you have all this time?
Lolololololololol
ReplyDelete@Ashfire
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah. I was talking about why we don't see more heterosexual ships, not about the fic.
My bad.
That was actually pretty high in quality. The writing style was elegant yet not overzealous, and the author clearly knows a thing or two about music.
ReplyDeleteIn case people are wondering, there are quasi-classical groups that do perform more electronic-oriented/inspired stuff. "Alarm Will Sound" - especially on their record "Acoustica" does this especially. And let's not Mason Bates, composer-in-residence for the Chicago Symphony as well as a professional DJ. He played his piece "Motherships" with the Youtube Symphony Orchestra. Good stuff.
/lecture over. Can't wait for an update.
@clarin-ed Well Said. I too am a Classical musician
ReplyDeleteCan anypony answer me this, is this worth reading if I adore allegrezza?
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteSweet! Gotta love music bronies. If you search "welcome home clarinet" on youtube, you will probably find my channel.
@clarin-ed Search Bombedrumbum on Youtube to find mine (and my music :P)
ReplyDeleteFar be it from me to question several dozen posts discussing how much they don't like shipping in the comments of a shipping story rather than anything related to the story itself, but is this actually any good?
ReplyDeleteOctascratch?! Hell yeah!
ReplyDelete@clarin-ed
ReplyDeletesearched it, and i'm wowed. i'm a music brony as well (main is clarinet), but i don't have anything on the internet yet.
I think I'm going to have to read this, lest I get accidentally eviscerated in the path of another 2.2k words directed at someone who had a hateful opinion.
ReplyDeleteWOOO, more of my two favorite mares ^^
ReplyDeleteThough from the look of things, I'm going to have to avoid the comments on any future octascratch fics. ._.
@TenchiFreak5 Yes. This is excellent.
ReplyDeleteHooo-wheee, another VinylTavia fic.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity I can't look to the comments for guidance on it's quality. Ah well, I'll add it to the list of fics I have left to read so I don't seem biased towards Allegrezza.
Of course, gotta go read the Scratch Tapes first. Plus a couple of other obscure ones. Polite correctness and all that.
Also, I love BombedRumBum's comment that one chapter of shipping derailed Allegrezza. Name a single blockbuster movie that lacks romance, I dare ya. ;)
@CoffeeGrunt
ReplyDeleteOh, god, yes. Finish the Tapes. Forget Remix - the Tapes come first. Word is that its season 2's being written, so you might as well catch up while you can!
This is a brilliantly written piece, and it hasn't even gotten to the shipping yet. Expect clever wordplay, a fantastic OC, and a very realistic look at music and high society. I, for one cannot wait for more.
ReplyDelete@Hydra:
EQD is being assailed by people 1-starring fics for apparently no reason. They never leave comments; as far as anyone can tell, they don't even read fics. Whether it's targeted at certain tags, fanfic in general, or everything on the blog, it's hard to say, but quite a few of us are getting sick of it all. Numbers shouldn't be the reason for writing, but they do have some effect on this blog. It's becoming frustratingly impossible to know what will and will not work anymore.
@Octavia
ReplyDeleteha. thats so awesome
@Obscurica
ReplyDeleteHey cool, I'm glad you enjoyed Tapes. And yes, season two is being worked on :)
Anywho, I thought this was a pretty good first chapter. I thought the circumstances that cause Octavia and Vinyl to be paired off. I actually like Ruby's character. I don't think any other fic has had a music agent in it, despite the fact there are a ton of music ponies by this point so it would make perfect sense. I thought that was clever.
I laughed out loud near the beginning when I saw the name "Tchaiklopsky". I think that amused me a lot more than it should have, XD
The most interesting part to me is the subplot about Frederic being kinda disapproving of the whole situation. I hope that there's more stuff with that, like him getting paranoid this will break up the band and whatnot.
The only thing I really have a complaint about, and this is more about my own personal taste than any failing on the writer, is I kinda thought all the swearing in the first half was a bit jarring. I swear all the time, but it's kind of weird whenever I see it in a MLP fanfic. However, that's really a minor complaint and it didn't bother me enough that I didn't like it.
I really like where this is going and I hope you keep up the good work. :)
Interesting so far, albeit rather hard to follow.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely read the following chapters, but there is one thing I would like to say.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, there are a lot of gifted musicians in the brony community. Not all of us know every classical playstyle descriptor. So, in the scene where Frederic tells Octy that she is too 'forte'(This nearly everyone should know) and then also mentions 'bruscamente' (Something I had to look up (which I did right in the middle of reading the story.)) it seems to break the immersion of the scene. I applaud your obvious knowledge of music, but this (IMHO) is more distracting from the story than anything it adds.
And don't listen to the ship haters, shipping is the most enjoyable type of fanfic out there.
I have a problem with this fic. A big one
ReplyDeleteA month and a half have gone by without another chapter. This is a crime
WHEN WILL THERE BE ANOTHER CHAPTER?! :D OMG I love it. :) Great story. Amazing details. What caught me was how the author replaced little human words with pony words like hip-hoof instead of hip-hop. etc. Icant wait for the next part to come out. :)
ReplyDeleteWhere is next chapter?
ReplyDelete
