Author: Donny's Boy
Description: Pinkie Pie's crush on Rainbow Dash is possibly the worst-kept secret in all Equestria. Rainbow doesn't really pay it much attention, though, until Fluttershy asks her to make an important promise. It sounds easy enough to keep ... but a promise, like love, is often harder and more complicated than it first appears.Not Unless You Mean It

Think i'll give it a read later, right now Xbox.
ReplyDeleteThe tags/description combination confuse me. Also, i'm pretty sure a Pinkie Pie Swear is in order.
ReplyDeleteThis seems interesting. Oh 1st
ReplyDeleteLooking at the tags, I think I'll read this, if a bit later.

ReplyDeleteWell, it's PinkieDash so I'm pretty much forced to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this on fimfiction before and thought about reading it.
ReplyDeletenever thought it'd end up here.
Are people rating this without reading it? That was a fantastically written story! Five stars.
ReplyDeleteAh DashPie! Must read...
ReplyDeletewhat's with the rating?
ReplyDeleteThe author gets tense totally wrong within the first sentence. I literally cannot read this without flinching.
ReplyDelete@Darthteej How is the tense wrong? It's present tense, and just skimming the first few paragraphs it seemed to stick to it without mixing up tenses.
ReplyDeleteVerb tense problems irk me more than anything else, and I seriously see nothing wrong with this. Present tense isn't my favorite, sure, but it's not done wrong.
Present tense? Finally something different. Gonna read it although I usually can't stand PinkieDash!
ReplyDeleteI will admit, the tense overall is unusual and frustrating, but I'll try to read the story objectively.
ReplyDeleteAre people down voting this before actually reading it or is it really a 3 star story?
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely not a 3 star story. Not sure why there are so many low ratings.
ReplyDelete@Darthteej
ReplyDeleteYeah. The entire thing is present tense.
From the first chapter, I want to guarantee that this is not a 3-star story. It's at least a 4.
ReplyDeleteAnd the tense actually turns out to not be bad at all. In fact, given the situations, the present tense works the story out very effectively. It almost makes me want to write my own story in the present tense!
The prereaders deserve thanks for not filtering the story out just because of its tense. Neither should you, the general reader. It's different, and maybe somewhat unorthodox, but it's a story, a fanfic, nonetheless.
So to Donny's Boy, I say good job on your pioneer efforts and bravery. Human nature allow, your story will be rated and known as it deserves.
Why does this have such a low rating? The present tense doesn't bother me much actually, and it's quite well done. Also, I don't really ship Pinkie and Dash, but this one gave me a feel. c:
ReplyDelete@Godot-17
ReplyDeleteWe wouldn't moon a fic for tense choice, only for tense inconsistency. Though I have yet to see a fic attempt all future tense. In fact, I'm not sure how that would even work.
I actually finished this story yesterday, it's pretty good actually, the present tense was a little hard to get over for me at first, but it's totally worth a 4-star rating, I wouldn't quite give it a five, but a 4 and a half seem right XD
ReplyDelete@Kits
ReplyDeleteOh, I know!
A giant checklist of Twilight Sparkle. It's go about like this:
-Go get cupcakes from the store
-Deliver cupcakes to Pinkie's party.
-Go get new cupcakes. Look out for crashing Rainbow Dash.
-Deliver cupcakes to Pinkie's party.
-Go get new cupcakes. Stop tripping over CMCs.
:p
It's weird, but I didn't even notice the tense until the fifth chapter... I thought it was inconsistent tense, but after looking back, I had just been reading perfectly content with the tense until I spaced out and noticed something that wasn't even there. I gave it a 5. Love PinkieDash.
ReplyDelete@Nyerguds
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie. "what is this i don't even" and "wat" are about the only replies that make sense here.
@Kits
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me. I'm gonna write a future tense fic and get it put up on this site.
Love it! :D
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't write in present tense. It made me feel like I was reading one of those...... In......... I dunno.
ReplyDeleteQuite pleased with the story itself, though. I was pretty neat. All the shippings were pretty much Understandable, and stuff.
That aside..... I don't think anymore should not read this. It was decently awesome :3
The tense thing was admittedly a little awkward at first, and it's difficult to write in present tense anyway, but it was done surprisingly well in this case and after the initial mental adjustment, flowed along nicely.
ReplyDeleteThe story itself was adorable! Nice conflict building, and interesting characterizations of the ponies. Although there were a couple of points where I really wondered how Dash could have become the "Element of Loyalty" acting the way she was. But it worked out! And the last scene was quite touching.
Overall, excellent story, and I hope the author writes more.
Loved it, this might just become one of my favorite ships.
ReplyDelete4 stars from me. I enjoy Pinkie Dash. The present tense style didn't bother me. I thought it actually worked well in this story.
ReplyDelete...Big Mac and Pinkie just doesn't seem likely to me. Honestly I didn't care for the bit about RD breaking half the hearts of the mane six but that's a personal preference. Otherwise, very enjoyable read.
That this story has somehow gotten so low of a star-rating only serves to illustrate how bad the star rating system is. This is five stars, no matter what anypony says.
ReplyDeleteDon't normally read Shipping only tags but I think I'll read this due to interesting additional tags and description as well as present tense (I know I hate 2nd person, but I want to find out where I stand on present tense).
ReplyDeleteAlso, WTF RATINGS?!
120 ratings with less than 50 comments?
Personally I would never 1, 2 or 5 star a fic without leaving at least a reason WHY.
That was fantastic! DashPie has always been my favorite and this is deffently my 2nd favorite shipfic now. First is The Party Hasn't Ended. But anyway, this story was amazing and touched me. I reqlly don't enjoy Fluttershy being with Derpy...and half of the mane six being in love with Rainbow...but whatever. That aside, the ending brought tears to my eyes because it overloaded my dawww factor and shot throught the roof. Very romantic and adorable. 5 stars!
ReplyDeleteOK. I don't mind present tense at all it turns out. I had no problems reading it and it actually made the scenes more visceral as if I was watching them unfold instead of reading about them.
ReplyDeleteNow as for the story itself. It was... good. I had no technical issues or complaints with the story, just some slightly negative emotional ones.
At first I found it a little too down on Dash but I got used to her when it got into her weekly schedule.
Then I balked at the ponies relationships being too mature and relevant but I got over that because even though the dynamics were all adult complicated, the tone was light enough to cope.
Then I got a little peeved at the idea that Dash had been with AJ and broken up; but after the day at the farm, and seeing how well RariJack (one of my more accepted ships) was working out I got over it.
Overall I would rate chapters 1-6 between 3.5 and 4 stars.
Closer to 4 because of the solid writing and storycraft. More or less my issue was that it felt it was missing the lighthearted charm and sense of FUN that I resort to ponies as my primary outlet for.
And then Chapter 7.
Dayum.
I have no Idea how you pulled that Sonic Rainboom of a chapter off but it was AMAZING.
It was EVERYTHING I could have asked for. The shipping relationships were natural, the characterizations were perfect, the comedy genuinely made me laugh, the WTF moments made me jaw drop instead of facepalm, the emotions were infectious.
Holy crap.
5 Stars for that chapter alone.
The only other shipping stories I have ever read that elated me to the gegree as that chapter 7 are Once Bitten, Twice Shy and The Ballad of Twilight Sparkle.
(Also what's up with scenes of Dash slowdancing with ponies? First Dance 'til We're High now this. I like it but it's an interesting and HNNNNNNGGGGGH trend.)
@Sunset Sprinkles
ReplyDeleteI don't think Fluttershy and Derpy are a thing. I think it was just drunken party makeout time.
And half the Mane 6 aren't in love with Rainbow. RD and 'Shy were way in the past burried feelings.
RD and AJ was a failed relationship that they are both over and moved on from.
@DPV111
ReplyDeleteWell, what I mean is, that they all had crushes on RD at least sometime in their lives.
And the Derpy thing, I just personally don't want to imagine Derpy doing something like that. Haha
@Krizak:
ReplyDeleteIt seems that standard operating procedure around EQD these days is that if you have a shipping tag, you're guaranteed to get at least 30 1-star ratings shortly after being posted. It's disgusting, and there's no way to change it.
@Present Perfect
ReplyDeleteOne way would be to have the ratings attached to comments like the reviews in the PFA.
This has some mixed reviews but I'll check it out
ReplyDeleteI so friken want to read this. BUT until that site fixes their fricken download issue I wont even bother. Sorry, I can't read broken walls of text. click the download button and open the text file to see what I mean
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it a lot. The whole story felt natural and I especially enjoyed the clif scene and the whole last chaper.
ReplyDelete@DPV111:
ReplyDeleteWell, I should have said, "No way to fix it without changing the site architecture." That's the one thing I really like about PFA.
That was great, nice job!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it. Rainbow Dash is very well-written and I can definitely recommend this fic.
ReplyDelete@Present Perfect
ReplyDeleteYeah. haters gonna hate. I wish the star chart was like newegg and you could see a break down of who voted what. Personally, I think it's a 4 star story.
Why the flying heck is this rated as it is? This story is genuinely good.
