Seems like a good fic. Will definitely save for later
ReplyDeletemyst huh, is it sad i've never heard of it?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the title I realized it was not a word I had encountered before. My brain immediately set to work reversing it, anagramming it, spoonerizing and jumbling it. No dice.
ReplyDeleteWHAT THE HAY?! MYST CROSSOVER?! /)^3^(\ SO AWESOME!!!!
Uh. Wow.
ReplyDeleteNow I want point and click ponies.
Myst is before many bronies time I would think. I remember playing it on my PC WAAAAY back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI shall give this story a read!

ReplyDeleteOh, it's Myst, no wonder it seemed good and familiar....
ReplyDeleteOhohoh, but there is an anagram.
ReplyDeleteYou're waiting for a train...
Reads delightfully, absolutely splendid work. I adore you for writing this.
A Myst Fic? My god I have to read this
ReplyDeleteA wild Twilight appears!
ReplyDeleteMy reactions in sequence:
ReplyDelete"Okay, story post." -> *reads up to "discovered a strange old book"* -> "It can't be." -> "It is!" -> "Hope the author knows his Myst canon, or this could become an issue for me." -> "Oh, wait, they're just exploring Myst island and its Ages? Not much opportunity for fouling up canon anyhow, in that case. Should be fun."
Shorah B'Shem, Sel-Tahn! (On the off-chance that somepony will understand that)
Lovely portrayal of the brothers so far. I'm extremely curious to how the rest of the fix will play out. Myst ponies... got to love it. The writing style is very easy to read. :)
ReplyDeleteAww, why did it have to end so quickly ;A;
ReplyDeleteExpecting great things. C. Theron Vulpin, I love you so very, very much. Even more than that little chocolate mint on my pillow.
It's a pleasant surprise to see how many commenters have experience with Myst. I shall strive to live up to your expectations, but keep in mind this is a Pony fic, so not everything will be as you remember.
ReplyDeleteMYST hoh my gawd.
ReplyDeleteIt's like one of the first point and click puzzle-adventure game, and was the best selling game of all time up until 2000.
A MLP and Myst crossover?! Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!!! Excellent work so far, and I'm seriously looking forward to any and all upcoming updates! *Hopes for eventual trip to D'ni and Twilight learning the Art*
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH! I have been waiting for a Myst Crossover since I discovered crossovers!!!
ReplyDeleteYou dear author are my favorite pony ever!
MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYST!!!!!
ReplyDelete...Can I hug you, Theron Vulpin?
Aww hell yeah, I remember playing Myst. My wy whole familiy collaborated on trying to solve the puzzles. Those were good times.
ReplyDeleteMist... That sounds, familiar. Besides it being a common description of weather in a grounded cloud.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Myst. Since I don't think I'll ever get around to playing it, I imagine this will make a fine substitute.
ReplyDeleteFUCK YEAH!
ReplyDeleteFUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH FUCK YEA!
MYST IS POSSIBLY MY FAVORITE GAME SERIES OF ALL TIMES! So reading this
Dat Twilight hair.
ReplyDeleteShorah B'Shem, Sel-Tahn!
ReplyDeletePeace to you, writer!
... I do hope we meet Starswirl's terrible father eventually!
If they follow the original myst plot of the father and two brothers, this is not something I want to read (if your not familiar with the story, lets just say neither brother was exactly virtuous...)
ReplyDeleteOtherwise adding this to my 'to read upon completion' list, sounds musing though possibly a little ship-y......
Anybody else have to do a double take at the name when they first saw it because they thought it said "Atari"?
ReplyDeleteSuper Saiyan 3 Twilight Sparkle?
ReplyDelete...I had the first chapter of my own Myst crossover all ready to submit & everything.
ReplyDeleteFuck.
It's not Twilight's fault? READING IT!
ReplyDelete@Ashton
ReplyDeleteThree chapters and not a hint of ship (besides the sunken one. har har). It seem to be trying to follow the original Myst storyline closely, only with ponies.
@TheMagisterIt's following it so closely, I'm pretty sure you could use this fanfic as a walk through for the game. So far, he's given fairly detailed descriptions of the puzzles.
ReplyDelete@Forte Canter
ReplyDeleteGo for it! More is better, as long as it's good.
@Meganerdbomb
ReplyDeleteYou'd think so, huh? :P I'm changing the puzzles up wherever possible so at best you'll learn some strategies for the real game.
Nobody? Ok, then.
ReplyDeleteChooka chooka chooka, WAAAAAAH!
AWSOME an myst fanfic :D
ReplyDeleteSweet sacred Dragons above. . .YES! So much YES!!!! Myst drove me insane for about a month until I beat it, and now ponies crossed over with it?! YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!!
ReplyDeleteMYST
ReplyDelete..........
Screw sleep
*reading*
I was waiting for more reviews or something before I read this...
ReplyDeleteWasn't expecting such a nostalgic reaction though; how many bronies play Myst when they where younger (it was one of my favorite games and Exile is my favoritest)
Aaargh, I had a Myst crossover just ready for submitting myself when I saw this :( Then again I did have a different approach to things, so we'll see :)
ReplyDeleteAnywho, this looks great! Looking forward to reading more, the world needs more Myst ponies :D
The tags got my attention, I wasn't expecting a reference to Myst. I'm going to read it now.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this fanfic, Some of the problem solving parts seem to go by too quickly though like when Twilight and Rainbow went in the tower; That part seemed to go by too quickly, I wouldn't have minded a few more lines. Then again I played Myst and was stumped in it rather often.
ReplyDeleteYAY PART 4!!!! Can't wait for more <3
ReplyDelete@101Volts
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to find a balance between showing Rainbow and Twilight figuring the puzzles out and not letting this turn into a ponified Myst walk-through. I want the focus to be more on the discoveries about the world than the puzzles embedded in it.
Loving this story. But then, crossovers have always been my favorite. And I enjoy your other stories too.
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint would be that the characters feel slightly "flat". Their personalities are correct but they exhibit less of them after the first chapter. I'll chalk it up to the wonder of being in a new exotic place.
Also there are several grammatical errors and typos per chapter. I would have posted them while reading but I was reading on my phone and so was limited. I'll go through again and scout the errors. I'll just sent a PM on FimFiction.
"Ponies go to Myst"
ReplyDelete^
Omg my dad and I used to play that puzzle game together! ...good memories... I MUST find time to read this eventually.
Saw this in the Story Updates post without the Additional Tags visible and read the description and immediately knew what this was without any direct mention of MYST anywhere. Certainly brings me back almost two decades when I used to watch my mom play it.
ReplyDeleteLast year I found a Complete MYST Collector's Box Set in the PC games isle at Best Buy and thought "When did they release that?" Then I looked at the copyright on the box and it said 2005. It sat on the shelf for 5 YEARS. So of course I bought it. Then I found out that even the version of the first game included in it is so archaeic that the Mac version can't even run on modern Intel-based Macs and the Windows version has some compatability-related stability issues with Windows 7, even in Compatibility mode. "Modern" technology...does not tend to age well.
I would love to see a comic version of this. Screenshots + pony vectors = so awesome.
ReplyDeleteThis story is great the characterization is getting richer and the plot thicker.
ReplyDeleteI love this
ReplyDeleteMyst huh? Hilarious that the 90s babies have never heard of it. That damn game used to be HUGE back in the day. We're talking millions sold, Game of the Year status. WE'RE GETTING OLD 80S BABIES...
ReplyDeleteKids, you didn't miss much. Myst was a relic from the days when CD-ROM was TEH TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE~!!!1 and 30 seconds of ultra low res full motion video on your computer was fucking amazing wizard magic holy shit.
If you wanna talk 90s point and click adventure, LucasArts >>>>> Myst any. day. of. the. week.
Hell, they still haven't made a Indiana Jones video game better than Fate of Atlantis!
I just read Chapters 8-10, Great work! However, I noticed some "Walls of text" On occasion.
ReplyDeletei hereby decree that the end of the world in 2012 is cancelled! proof= this post was updated on 23rd december 2012!
ReplyDeleteOoh, been waiting for this to finish as it's by one of my favorite authors. Will have to see if I can make the time to get started later tonight. Though that's going to cut into my refresher play through of Mass Effect 1&2 that I'm trying to finish before 3 releases.
ReplyDelete@_OJ_
ReplyDeleteSome bronies hate the fact that other bronies actively obsess over their fandom to a point of borderline psychotic.
EVERYONE hates a spammer, however. Even though I partially agree with your points, I am starting to question your actual agenda.
Farewell good story
ReplyDeletei enjoyed reading you
Myst refference, Nice! :3 Now I have to read it.
ReplyDeleteThis fanfic is powerful.
ReplyDeleteI started reading this fic at 10PM, it is now currently 5:40AM... that is a good story. Nice crossover and it stuck to the original game pretty well. I loved it!
ReplyDeletetwilight looks so punkrock....i love it
ReplyDeletePonified Ghen incoming? How much more awesome can things get!
ReplyDelete@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteMyst is like the bible of PC games!
@Belgarath
ReplyDeleteThen you haven't lived.
I am a forever-loyal MYST and URU fan, and this made me so very happy to the point where I made MLP/MYST covers! :D
ReplyDeleteMYST is best game series.
I've never played Myst, so it's impossible to enjoy the dozens of references there is. I can tell that the story's very well-written though, so kudos. Unfortunately it can't hold my interest. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletewow
ReplyDeletea crossover from a game that old?
I was just a little boy when I played that game
@Yuri
ReplyDeleteBIBLE OF PC GAMES? HA!
