I was going to put this in the roundup, but I keep getting emails about it. Cracked.com has posted a short blurb about "bronies". It does jab us a bit, but the overall messages is primarily positive.
As is the norm though, they used an old gen pony for the header image. Come on media! Just try to get it right for once!
Check the article out here!
Thanks to everyone that let me know about it! I'm sorry that I couldn't answer all of you directly.

What? I was just on there?
ReplyDeleteALWAYS using the wrong gen. >.<
ReplyDeleteC'mon. First The Daily Show, now this.
They used a G1 pony toy, but they reffer to the show as the current incarnation.
ReplyDeleteIt is a harmless article, but they should have also mentioned that bronies existed before FiM. And this comes from an FiM fan who couldn't stand the original Gens.
you should see the comments on cracks facebook post
ReplyDeleteits almost a 400 comment brawl
http://www.facebook.com/cracked/posts/211137885630605
Does that hayseed cleaner pony have a fanon name yet?
ReplyDeleteWhile most of was positive I still felt like it really didn't explain as much as others have.
ReplyDeleteTThey have no respect for us.
ReplyDeleteSMITE THEM DISCORD!
@Astrophel Agonistes
ReplyDeleteAll I've seen is Ellis
@James Corck Did the term, "brony," exist before FiM? I know the idea of one did, like you said.
ReplyDeleteNot bad, but at the same time not good. And I though the media botched the stock footage for airplanes. Now they have to go messing up our beloved ponies. I'm pretty sure you guys can easily tell the difference between a helicopter and a 747. Sometimes looks like they can't.
ReplyDeleteWhat is cracked.com and why should we care about it? I've just visited it, browsed a little and it's completely retarded :>
ReplyDelete@Astrophel Agonistes
ReplyDeleteHe gave his name in the show itself, his name is Hayseed Turniptruck.
>implying they have trucks
Cracked.com jabs at everything, it's nothing to be offended about. It's all in good jest.
ReplyDeleteAnd you all are getting mad......falling into cracked trap......
ReplyDeleteif i am not mistaken, CRACKED is a humor site......and i laugh it....a little.
do not take seriously
Well.. I'm glad we're no longer considered to have bestiality or misdirected pedophilia on our minds. But I, for one don't agree with the 'put the baseball glove on the shelf' allusion they used. I play many sports and still do in college. Though I am single at the moment, it's more of an exception than the norm.
ReplyDeleteOh well, I digress... How about them ponies? haha
@WhyDoICare
ReplyDeleteKnowing that, this article was pretty fair. Not much else to say; pretty harmless overall.

ReplyDeleteLawl. Cracked thinks they're relevant to anything. 'Tis to larf. Call me when they figure out that humor is more than just snarky cheap shots (and as a world class smartarse, I should know)
ReplyDeleteGet used to us, people, we'll be here for at least another season. :D
I read the article when I woke up this morning. As I have an open mind about things, I found the blurb to be pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I look at Cracked every day. It may be a humor site, but the information they give is pretty informative, so I'm actually learning something new through humor.
Read it when I woke up. I saw the title first, and was thinking "No way. It can't be...", then the picture loaded and I was like "THAT'S THE WRONG FREAKING GEN, SOREN!!!"
ReplyDeleteMore exposure. Ilikethis.jpeg
ReplyDeleteIt's painful to read the comments.
ReplyDeleteIt's like people can't deal with the fact society is slowly progressing to being a bit more gender-neutral.
How about we stop throwing around "girly" as if the word girl itself were some sort of insult.
I actually like Cracked. This article doesn't bother me too much.
ReplyDeleteWhat will bother me is over-reaction. It's a humor article. Take it as a joke and save the ammo for the actual fights.
Those buck teeth.
ReplyDelete*Deep breath*. NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERDS.
The comments are where the good stuff's at.
ReplyDeleteAnd I accept your apology, Sethisto :P
These people just don't get it, do they?
ReplyDeleteI am glad we weren't number one...
ReplyDeleteSoren never fails to get a laugh out of me.
ReplyDeleteCracked's a humor site. They wouldn't be doing their job if they weren't making jabs.
I keep clicking "More comments" but nothing else shows up!
ReplyDeleteOlder gen pony? What the Hell? That's more than something you can just 'shrug' off. There is a major difference between the older generations and the Real Deal, Friendship is Magic. We should round up the guys at Cracked, cut their eyeballs out, shove them up their dick holes, and then burn them alive after we skin them and melt lemon juice on their inner flesh. I hope they get raped. Assholes.
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty short article compared to most of what they write though. Odd.
ReplyDeleteHarmless overall, though, Soren kind of bores me. Would rather read John Cheese.
A friend of mine was reading this article next to me at lunch and expressed in a rather negative way, his reaction to it (something along the lines of: bronies are creepy)
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie, it made me sad inside, but I have other friends who are bronies, so I'll manage.
Ok, I laughed HARD at the disappointed father line. That was funny as hell. However, there are plenty of older female fans of the show too. It sucks that they didn't mention them at all.
ReplyDeleteGuys Cracked is a humor article site meant to not be taken seriously.
ReplyDelete@Maquabra
ReplyDeleteBest comedy-with-true-facts-articles website ever.
Read it. ALL OF IT.
Why don't they mention the FEMALE fans!? I am an older female fan and I would like to be mentioned....Most of the articles I read NEVER talk about the older female fans. It's kinda sad.
ReplyDelete@Astrophel Agonistes
ReplyDeleteWhy would he need a fanon name?
His name is Hayseed Turniptruck. He said so himself.
@Sedrick J. Wilhelm
ReplyDeleteWOAH THERE. What happened to love and toleration? Don't take this too seriously. :)
@Sedrick J. Wilhelm
ReplyDeleteOkay then...
@HeffaLumps
ReplyDeleteIT'S FILLED WITH IDIOTS
SOMEONE HAND ME A FLAMETHROWER AND A SUPER ADDRESS BOOK
@anname219
ReplyDeleteI guess the stereotype about MLP being for girls extends to older ones as well.
Every person's reaction about male fans has been shock or disgust, but for female fans it's quickly accepted.
Ahh the comments on the Facebook page... they make me laugh :D
ReplyDeleteFuck blogger! I spendt great efforts to write a novel in my best English with deep insight on the toppic and now it did not work!
ReplyDeleteThis is almost as bad as this retarded article.
I enjoy MLP:FiM for several reasons. I want to enjoy it unfettered and with general acceptance. Society once again interferes.
yeah, that was a half assed article. I'm surprised someone like Soren Bowie wasn't that funny, he usually is. He could have more research or at least flat out make fun of us, at least that would have been funny. Kinda wish DOB would have written about it, oh well.
ReplyDeleteI know I shouldn't say this out loud, but I'm 14....
ReplyDeleteHow could I possibly be a pedophile?
Could they have used a creepier picture of a brony... That guy has a rape face on.
ReplyDelete@HeffaLumps Looks like a whole bunch of stupidity on both sides
ReplyDelete@anname219
ReplyDeleteWell, this one was titled "The 4 Most UNEXPECTED Fan Bases in Pop Culture" so adult female fans are naturally going to be excluded as they aren't nearly as shocking as some of the other fanbases that exist.
I do agree female fans do need better coverage, though
Part of me wants to pen an article totally ripping on the brony fandom and submit it without immediately letting on I am a brony until the very end. Be interesting to see how that would go over.
ReplyDeleteI imagine I'd get some hate mail from some people and I would just need to write a stock response detailing how I've been around for a good while.
I'm a regular reader of Cracked, I think they're hilarious.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said it's a humor site, I honestly thought it'd be way more vicious.
The reason everyone goes with the "Grown men watching My Little Pony!" angle is that MLP is such a well known brand that everyone's heard of it but in their minds they only conjure up the 80's version. And we all know how popular the "male geeks doing something geeky" meme is, so combine those two and you have a easy to write piece for the mainstream reader.
@Magnus the Blue
ReplyDeletePedophile, by definition, is sexual attraction to PRE-pubescent children. Therefore, just get (wing)boners around a five year old and there you go.
Ephebophilia, on the other hand, is attraction to adolescents. Therefore, if you are attracted to people your own age, then you are TECHNICALLY an ephebophile, though it is normal, and thus acceptable, at your age.
I'm practically 21 and my dad's definitely not disappointed in me for being a Brony... heh I mock your incapacity to accept diversity, society!
ReplyDeleteAs long as the show remains true to itself and entertaining then I'll keep watching it. Even after that, I think I will still take part in the community because there is no fandom quite as awesome as the Bronies.
ReplyDeleteHahaha it being written by soreness bowie i wouldn't expect it to be super nice and all that :P
ReplyDeleteThey are afraid that if they show Our ponies to the world everyone will convert, which is only the truth.
ReplyDeleteI mean think of it this way, if you read that a bunch of grown men were crazy about Justin Bieber wouldn't you be tempted to make derisive jokes about them?
ReplyDeleteObviously FIM is not Justin Bieber but that's what people who've never seen the show think it is. Just one more dumb, superficial thing for little girls.
"To love and tolerate."
ReplyDeleteMe and my bro love the show, but i think i'll keep him away from fan sites.
oh, AND WHY ARE THEY USING PREVIOUS GENERATION PONIES!?!? AT LEAST USE A FANMADE PLUSHIE!!!
i was one of the people to email this in...
ReplyDeleteMeh.
ReplyDeleteHaters gonna hate.
Bronies gonna love and tolerate.
Here's the oldest trick in the assimilation book:
"I bet you (insert amount of money >5$ here) that you can't watch two episodes!"
@Jelfes
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the earliest fans of FiM and I don't believe the term existed before this reboot. If I remember correctly, it was coined early on on 4chan or such. Though like you said, the thought of it was around long before. There have been My Little Pony fans and groups since the dawning of Generation 1.
This article wasn't too bad. We've certainly see much worse at this point. lol They took some jabs, but y'know. They're not the types not to either. So keep that in mind. They could have said much worse. But overall they actually were pretty mellow. Also, they obviously didn't mention the female fans because these articles are meant for shock value. And it's less shocking to the general public that females would like this show. Hello stereotypes!
Seriously. Again, like others have said- Cracked.com takes shots at EVERYTHING. They are equal-opportunity ribbing artists. This was absolutely harmless, and well within the confines of how they treat absolutely everything they write about.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of the comments, but if anyone is getting angry about this then you shouldn't. Cracked makes fun of everybody, no reason they should go light on us.
ReplyDeleteSome points:
ReplyDelete- It's a humour site. Of course they're going to make jabs at us. For the most part, I'd say Soren was pretty nice to us. He even mentioned the character development and writing which many of us cite as reasons for liking the show. So he's at least done some research.
- The reason female bronies don't get mentioned is because they aren't really as unexpected as we male bronies are. Go back and read the title of the article. The 4 Most UNEXPECTED Fanbases in Pop Culture. Sorry ladies, but facts are facts.
- I wonder if the use of previous generation ponies is a trolling tactic, or genuine cluelessness.
Heh. Authors name is Soren. Heh-heh.
ReplyDelete@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteTotally. The idea of grown men watching My Little Pony is inherently comical, it wouldn't have made the front page of WSJ if it wasn't. And it's always worth keeping in mind when thinking about how outsiders might view it.
Although there's one guy on there who said he'd disown any friends of his who watched it, just like he disowned friends of his who like Twilight. Which is also pretty comical.
Just got done writing some verbal smackdown on a troll's comment. I'd be interested to see if he can even come back from that.
ReplyDelete@Navy Brony
ReplyDeleteWas it Bad?
Or love & Tolerance?
Soren's a brony. That article barely disguises it.
ReplyDeleteLOL 69 comments
ReplyDelete@Jeremy
ReplyDeleteIt's probably both a troll move and cluelessness.
@Shadow Heart
REALLY?
@Rainbowdash
ReplyDeleteNah, just my usually blurb of, "I'm active duty approaching 6 years, I've saved lives from the open ocean, I fly in helicopters for a living, I shoot big guns from helicopters, I instruct 30+ people, I instruct foreign military," and usually end with a, "I skydive for a hobby."
100% truth that no hater can come back from, unless they somehow have more awesomeness in their record than I do, but every person I've met that's more qualified than me either likes the show too, or doesn't judge me by it, so win-win.
@System_V
ReplyDeleteThought I'd lighten the mood with humor.
@Navy Brony
ReplyDeleteYou have my full respect just with that
As I'm sure has been said all ready; cracked pokes fun at anything and everything they don't understand/like.
ReplyDeleteMy advice would be to take EVERYTHING they say with a grain of salt.
I must say, for a Cracked article, we got off pretty easy. I've read hundreds of articles on there and they *can* rip on people hard, so be glad all they did was call us wierd and imply we're not 'macho men' (I woulds point out that they DID explain that FiM was aiming to be "everything the original was not" talking about plot and character development, etc. Really it was a rather open-minded article for them.
ReplyDeleteAnd about how long the bronies will be around? Comparing this to another fandom I was in that was very similar, I'd say roughly 2-4 years after the final FiM episode airs (providing they don't make a 5th gen show that's just as good) We have a large enough fanbase to keep churning out new content, even as Bronies slowly leave and no new ones are 'created' it will take a while to completely die.
ITT: People who think everything on the daily show is real and something to take seriously word for word...
ReplyDeleteThis is a joke article, relax. Also ask yourself next time you get mad ' what would ponies do? ' and you should be fine.
I'm disappointed in Cracked. They covered it not unlike a few serious news organizations have (A bit better, actually, but that's beside the point). This says 2 things:
ReplyDelete1: Serious news publications should require more research.
2: Cracked needs to reconsider it's approach to comedy if a serious news publication 'already did that joke'.
@Maquabra
ReplyDeleteI always visit cracked then equestria daily everyday, quite an intelligent and hilarious website, quit hating on it.
Funny as I had just stumbled onto that site while looking up info on ME3 overall not a bad review could be ALOT worse nowhere near fox news bad.
ReplyDeleteI can see why they;d be joking about us. I mean, face it, if somebody off the street told any of us a year and a half ago that we were going to enjoy watching My Little Pony cartoons, we'd probably look at them like they were a foreigners reading off the handbook used by Monty Python.
ReplyDeleteAnd besides, FiM has only been around for a year, whereas the franchise itself is nearing 30. Of course anybody over college age will associate it with the original, back before the show stood on its own.
That being said, I think they did a good job at it. I've seen much worse--sadly, not everybody can come to terms with the fact that people define their tastes and not the other way 'round.
I'm just annoyed that my friends will now have the whole brony term at their disposal now.
ReplyDeleteOoh wow, I actually found this on cracked before here, and to be honest i love cracked... They did get it a little wrong but whatever... I just wish they chose nicer pictures!
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the days of good solid research? All it would take is a single search of "Brony" to find some great articles! At least they called us genuine instead of pedophiles, we get that more than once. I mean, what in the hay is with that picture? I love this show, but no way in Hoofington are you going to get me to like the old series.
ReplyDeleteBTW, shoutout to my TF2 ponies out there. It is nice to see Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash spamming everything. Great Sprays! (I like to spray the "Deal With It" Rainbow Dash pic.)
For Cracked, that write-up was an absolute love story. I suspect a closet brony on the staff.
ReplyDelete"Bronies before Hoenies."
Werd.
@Astrophel Agonistes
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't need a fan name. They named him in the show ... Hayseed Turniptruck. Death by Pun to be sure.
