Animation Magazine did a mini-report on Studio B, highlighting a good amount of the team behind Friendship is Magic.
This looks like the best work environment ever. Check out that view! No wonder this show is so amazing. I'm totally moving to Canada.
The actual page can be found here!
Thanks to Vicki for the heads up.

ReplyDeleteWootie rocks the Ukulele! He is now officially my favorite member of the Pony staff.
ReplyDeleteI want !
ReplyDeleteYes I actually got it! Okay, now I'm done with that forever.
ReplyDeleteI want !
ReplyDeleteLooks like the staff are the best Bronies after all...
ReplyDeleteI want to give them all a hug.
ReplyDeleteI would love to work there :(
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why MLP FiM is the best show tv has had for a very long time.
I need a job O__O
ReplyDeleteThat work day sounds intense.
ReplyDeleteThey even have custom character hoodie/sweatshirts!
@Gryffinz well I was earlier than first. The staff look like they have lots of fun but must work VERY hard. *sigh* they are cool!
ReplyDeleteAnyone else is disturbed by the fact that they're working a 17 hour day?
ReplyDeleteLawl I love the last shot of Jayson face down and fallen asleep.
ReplyDeleteOf course there is a lot of work done there that isn't all about fun and silliness, but these showcase some of the more... entertaining times. Inb4 "But ponies are always fun!" ;)
I still want to know who's the guy owning that colorful keyboard over there. (A Topre Realforce? Dunno...)
ReplyDeleteI'm seconding the "now I want to move to Canada" sentiment.
ReplyDelete@Octavia
ReplyDeleteBut ponies are fun 98% of the time!
@OctaviaNot only your statement is very true but I also like how you pointed that last shot.
ReplyDeleteIt made me go all dawwwwwwwwwwwww!
Haha, they're such geeks! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThey look like they're having so much fun! I hope they really are, they deserve it!
ReplyDeletePoor Jayson lol, he looks positively TIRED.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the amazing work, Studio B. IMHO, every hour is absolutely worth it <3
I'd still love to work there, even if the hours are ridiculous. Especially if you can walk around in a Spike hoodie with crazy hair colors.
ReplyDeleteCool article though! It's nice to see what it's like there.
4pm : I can see my house from here!!!
ReplyDeleteour beloved gods and goddesses that make our ponies revealed!
ReplyDeleteUmm. Spike Hoodie? Spike Hoodie. SPIKE HOODIE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteomg u guys are awesome. reminds me of a game developer studio, everyone is tapped in to their inner geek to make the best stuff. can i work there? :)
ReplyDeleteWait. Do I see creative people using Flash running on Windows?
ReplyDeleteBlasphemy!
But seriously, all sarcasm aside, it's nice to see yet another proof debunking the myth that you can only use Macs for creative content.

ReplyDelete@RainbowDragon
ReplyDeleteFor the love of all that is holy, PLEASE change your avatar.
remember Kids! to make Magic you need Magic!!!
ReplyDeleteI burst out laughing at the face the artist in the Spike hoody pajamas(Holly Giesbrecht I believe) is making in the bottom center picture.
ReplyDeleteVery important pony meetings are the best kind of meetings.
ReplyDeleteOops I hit post and not preview, I meant to add that this was a nice little insight.
ReplyDelete@Jimperator
ReplyDeleteEr, just hoody. Not sure what compelled me to say Pajamas. derp
Do it, Seth. We can go to Timmy's for coffee.
ReplyDelete@Mikolaj (Spliter) Kuta
ReplyDeleteI see I wasn't the only one..
@Mikolaj (Spliter) Kuta
ReplyDeleteI already was working that.
Nice hat, Jayson.
ReplyDeleteI so want to work there... SO BADLY...
ReplyDelete;_;
Makes me wonder if they'll still be animating ponies when I finish my university courses on animation.
ReplyDeleteSPIKE HOODIE
ReplyDeleteMore proof that those behind FiM are Crazy Awesome.
ReplyDeleteWoot!
ReplyDeleteGo Pony Staff!
I WANT THAT SPIKE HOODIE
ReplyDeleteJayson lol.......
ReplyDelete@Mikolaj (Spliter) Kuta
ReplyDeleteNope! I've work a 23 hour day twice a week for 6 years! And I work in a biology lab, which is not fun and cool. There are no ponies... other than those we have to dissect. And those tend to be rather dead. :C
@Mikolaj (Spliter) Kuta
ReplyDeleteReally long workdays are not uncommon in TV production. Not sure how it is on the animation side, but for TV visual effects and other kinds of post-production, you get a couple of dead months over the summer where there's hardly any work, things ramp up with 8-hour days during the fall and then it's 12 or more hour days for the producers and leads the rest of the time.
And yes, it's very stressful.
I NEED that Spike hoodie! This was a really cool insight into what these folks are up too. And I know how they feel with those 17 hour days, I work em ALL the time.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up everypony! You guys are doing an amazing job and have yet to disappoint! Don't let some of these crazy ponies put you off, take your time, relax and have fun!
Thank god I was planning on moving to Canada anyway...
ReplyDeleteSPIKE HOODIE!
ReplyDeleteJayson giving Pinklestia some TLC and Wootie rocking the ukulele made my day. XD
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess this is the sort of things they do to avoid going "Lesson Zero" on the studio.
I know that feel, I have my own stress relasing habits. >_>
The girl in the spike hoodie seems to want more than that coffee
ReplyDelete^ Now we're shipping the crew?
ReplyDeleteAnd they always told me, work was boring....
ReplyDeleteNice to see some of the faces behind this awesome show. If any of them happen to see this, thanks for doing what you do and keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteI really want to have a job like that someday. Why does everything in the Film, TV, animation, etc. industry look so fun to do?
ReplyDeletewait...if they can check out EqD could they post here too?
ReplyDeleteThe MLP animation team at DHX is nuttier than we are! (How are they going to celebrate Luna's longest night of the year? Pull an all nighter at the studio?)
ReplyDeleteI owe my over 5 month happiness to these guys. You are great!
ReplyDelete@[tt]gab[TT] Not only can some staff post here, some correct you when you are trying to guess which ponies are riding the balloon in the Comic Con "Facebook poster".
ReplyDeleteXEN!!! XEEEEEEEEENNN!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDat Spike hoodie
ReplyDeleteWorking at an animation studio looks like really hard but really rewarding work. I'm sure many of us (myself included) wish to do something like that.
work from 8.00 to 0.00 sounds awesome XD
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed to see that so many of them are obvious bronies. I seriously expected one maybe two, but not everyone! Also looks like a great work environment where people are more laid back and casual (though still obviously getting work done)
ReplyDeleteand like somone else said "Flash on Windows? Blasphemy!" We all know you run it under LINUX! (lol, I curse every minute I have to boot into windows to use my animation software)
Great insight though!
@[tt]gab[TT]
ReplyDeleteOh, they post here sometimes. ;)
Why can't work be that awesome?
ReplyDeleteSoooo....that "pegasus digital painter"....everyone's just gonna let that slide without any comment whatsoever? (and no, I don't mean the fact that they're referring to Celestia as a pegasus. Go and give it another look. You'll see it.)
ReplyDeleteBEST.
ReplyDeleteFANFIC.
EVER.
Dear Hasbro,
ReplyDeletePlease make more Spike, Mane Six, and Princess Luna and Princess Celestia hoodies. I'll buy one of each.
Sincerely,
An envious Lady Silversweetheart
@Mikolaj (Spliter) Kuta
ReplyDeleteWell if you are having fun creating a show like this, you wouldn't even realize that 17 hours have passed you by.
@CharginChuck I'm slow and the image is very small. All I see is multiple overlapping frames of Princess Celestia turning clockwise into the screen, displayed on what is probably a Wacom Cintq. The Princess Celestia figurine is from the Gift set. What did I miss?
ReplyDeleteLooks like they have awesome (yet exhausting!) jobs. I love seeing these behind the scenes things.
ReplyDeleteYay Canada! :D
(incoming immigration wave of bronies?)
Also, the computer geek in me is pleased that they use Flash on Windows and not macs. :P
You HAVE to love what you do to work on this show. The hours, the shoestring budget, the last-minute, last-second revisions to the story and cels. God it must be nuts. No doubt everyone who works there is a brony or pegasister; if you're not you'd get sick of it really fast. There's thousands and thousands of cels and hundreds of man-hours in each episode. Working as editor of a major daily newspaper, I know what deadline pressure feels like. I heartily salute these guys. Your sacrifices are sincerely appreciated.
ReplyDeleteP.S.: I know who Raven Mollisee is by the way. She was (is?) a furry artist from WAY back. WAY back, like '98 or so, right after I found teh interwebs. And she works at Hasbro Studios! Mind = blown. G'night ponies.
@Nightweaver20xx A furry artist working on a cartoon featuring talking ponies -- there's a dream job come true! 8^)
ReplyDeleteSeth, if you actually move to Canada, that'd be great. Then we could hang out, and talk about ponies. And you'd actually be in the same time zone as me.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT's the way to run a railroad! :-)
ReplyDeleteI live in the city Studio B is in. I'm hoping to get a temp post-production job with the show. Seeing this strengthens that wish.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see they have ponies from the older generations. (Now people are going to start randomly hating them now?)
ReplyDeleteI wonder what they think about Pink Celestia.
Yeah, Canada is pretty awesome, and everything from here is awesome and you know it!
ReplyDeleteStrange that all we get for friendship is magic is season 1 reruns on a channel for 3-5 year old's but still...
Seems like fun :D
ReplyDelete@dw1482
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it's a little too strange when I first saw it on TV while my baby sister was watching Treehouse; One minute it's on shows like Elmo and the next it's ponies;
@Bellum_Civille
ReplyDeletewell of course! They probably want recognition for all their hard work!
I know I was planning on majoring in the sciences, but this might just change my mind... looks like a good job.
Well, this thingamajig certainly satisfied my curiosity about the animation team.
ReplyDeleteWoah thats cool! I approve of this article
ReplyDeleteGood that they are having fun at work.
ReplyDeleteNot in everyplace you can do that.
@dw1482 You're lucky to get that. Treehouse is not available in Quebec, and I don't think it's in the maritime provinces either. Treehouse is playing the usual corporate dis-information game and _not_ telling you where you can or cannot see the channel. The traveling MLP show stopped at the border to Quebec, so I take that to mean no ponies beyond that point. We have Teletoon in Quebec, but I couldn't find any ponies on the Teletoon website.
ReplyDelete@Quackers Older gens of MLP deserve all the love they can get. 8^) Not that I would buy any, except as cross-over customs.
ReplyDeleteThe one who I am guessing is "Holly" totally wins.
ReplyDeleteHaha all those pictures are just too awesome! My opinions of these guys just keeps going higher and higher!
ReplyDeleteIt's a surprisingly small team and office. Wasn't expecting that. A:TLA's behind-the-scenes shots coloured my expectations.

ReplyDeleteThese guys are cooky as hell, and I love it - especially Jayson and Wootie with their Lauren hats. I want a Lauren hat. Get on it WeLoveFine!
ReplyDeleteAlso, working in Studio B at midnight looks fucking awesome.
