They will take the play to far, arguing that their race is better than the other(even though Alicorns rule) so they will fight it out until Friendship somehow saves it and then the crowd cheers as they thought it was part of the show

ReplyDeleteWell, so far it's basically the same backstory that I used for the pony novel I wrote three months ago, so I've got that going for me. Which is nice.
ReplyDeleteI think I get it. Before, a bunch of unicorns would have to work together to raise the sun and moon. But Celestia and Luna, being more powerful and immortal, could do it individually and indefinitely, allowing the unicorns to pursue other things.
ReplyDeleteOf course, Discord's lulzy rule happened somewhere between these timelines, so maybe the unicorns were too busy trying to survive then do the whole sun/moon thing anymore.

The pegasi have a connection with nature too - the weather. And for Fluttershy, animals.

My guess? Unicorns have the power to raise the sun and moon. However, they don't NEED to. Maybe it was referring to artificially doing so for the gains of other ponies?
I know its a long shot, but its evident that Celestia alone probably wouldn't control both, or Luna would be useless, and unicorns don't seem to be doing so either. So my take is that the sun & moon move on their own like ours do- HOWEVER, they ALSO CAN be controlled by unicorns for artificial purposes.
Just a possibility.

ReplyDeleteTheory: Sun and Moon move on their own. Unicorns pretended to raise and lower them to get free food for 'working'. Celestia came along, threatened to expose their sham, so they passed the 'torch' of the job to her and Luna...who don't actually move them either.

An Earth Pony some how will get a unicorn horn and Pegasus wings and thus be the first Alicorn "Created", So that the fighting will end between all 3 groups. They literally have to "come together" in order to get peace and defeat the villain. :) Then from that day on the Alicorn is praised as a hero and a ruler because it's a "3" in one deal.

Though one thing that DOES make me wonder... If the sun & moon weren't moving naturally from the start... Then how could life exist? I mean, it's pretty much scientifically impossible to live through those conditions, or at least to have plantlife and stuff like that live in those conditions. But even then, I'm fairly certain animals can't either, let alone have any food to feed on :P
My guess? They could artificially move the sun & moon. Unicorns need to do it in groups, but very powerful ponies (alicorns) can also do it. They may have used their powers to give Earth ponies advantages with their crops by changing sun/moon stuff to change day/night. That's why they demanded payment. I mean, obviously unicorns wouldn't just leave it JUST day or just night forever. It was probably a skill that unicorns had that they used to help Earth ponies, and demanded payment for their help.
Which also mean Celestia & Luna have the power to control the sun/moon (hence Luna's evil) but still have it continue to move around even when she was banished. (I doubt Celestia can do it or Luna would be purposeless; Plus, Celestia's cutie mark is a Sun, not a moon. And we haven't seen any unicorn gatherings for moving the moon; nor heard of anything like it.)
Just a theory.
It's probably all a case of the "overthinks".
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm of the opinion that Chaos created Celestia and Luna. If not from scratch, he took them as ponies of some variety and created them. I mean what's more chaotic than a mash-up of several different species?
Of course, it wouldn't be his best plan in the end since they were his undoing...

ReplyDeleteIt quite simple my friend, their moon is obviously on an elliptical pattern such as ours. Well sometimes an event occurs where the moon runs in contact with the suns rotation. A Solar eclipse occurs once the moon passed in front of it. Who's to say their day is as long as ours? Or they just over exaggerated on it in the story

ReplyDeleteBut how many unicorns did it take to raise the sun and moon? How hard was it for them to do compared to how effortlessly Celestia seems to be able to do it on her own?
Either way, while it is quite clear that Celestia is very powerful, she's never been presented as being omnipotent, nor do her subject seem to worship her as a goddess.

ReplyDeleteThe most probable explanation is that Celestia and Luna's powers are strong enough such that their sway over the celestial bodies cannot be impeded by regular unicorns.
Either that or modern unicorns have just mostly gotten lazy since Celestia has ruled them and have forgotten how to do it.
The ***LAND*** of Equestria... meaning that, indeed, as MANY-many people said and theorized...

No information yet about the 'Princesses VS Discord' thing, relative to that, though.
Considering at the end it started snowing, I'd have to say it got really cold, (Ice Age) and nothing grew.
ReplyDeleteBasically, they, Earth, Pegasus and Unicorns found themselves all in the same boat.
What got them through it, out of it and to Equestria, I seriously doubt it's going to be the birth of Celestia/Luna as that's too obvious and not much in the theme of a lesson.

ReplyDeleteI don't recall mentioning anything about their rule, only their power. They don't seem to be necessary for the process.
@Parakarry Fluttershy has a special connection with Animals due to her special talent, not a connection with all of nature due to a racial trait. She's still a pegasus with the ability to control the weather like Rainbow Dash, and she doesn't have the strength and power to make things grow like Applejack or Pinkie Pie have.
ReplyDeletePinkie Pie is actually a lot like Fluttershy (and Rarity) in that they stray off of the beaten path for their race and and work with their special talents without drawing as much upon their racial traits as the other three of the Mane 6.

ReplyDeleteWell, Celestia's and Luna's control over the sun and moon doesn't have to stem from their being Alicorns, it could just be their special talents with them being Alicorns just giving them long life and the abilities of all the other pony races (makes sense, what with their cutie marks being the sun and moon). Twilight could possibly be a more powerful magic user than Celestia.
Maybe Alicorns aren't god-like beings, just genetic flukes that due to their long lifespans are better suited for rulership than other ponies.
I have to say I love how the pegasi culture seems to be modeled after ancient greece. Right from the architecture in Cloudsdale to the costumes.
