And some Copy Paste:
Hey, everybody! CaptainComedy here. First of all, I want to sincerely apologize for the huge delay in the release of this soundtrack. It just became a much larger project than I anticipated. Season 2 won't take nearly as long!
I'd like to personally thank Topshot, Don-Komandorr and shuffle for contributing art. You guys did some incredible work. I'd also like to thank CSIMadMax and BlackM3sh for doing some work as well, until unfortunately having to both drop from the project for personal reasons. Maybe next season!
I'd like to thank Daniel Ingram and William Anderson. Only their music could inspire me to take on this ridiculously huge project. And without them, the show would be a lot less magical.
And obviously, thanks to Lauren Faust for creating such a compelling and enjoyable animated series.
So I now say goodbye, and thanks for reading this. If you have questions, comments, or just want to chat, by all means, email me at [email protected], or comment on this post. I'll drop in periodically to reply. Enjoy the music.
- James "CaptainComedy" Avestruz (see you next year!)

ReplyDelete@Dantes_Grill
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain
Nrrrrg, how many times do I have to die of awesomeness in one DAY!?!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteCool guy!
ReplyDelete@Dantes_Grill
ReplyDeleteSame here. I'll probably wait for the official soundtrack.
Well, now I really think I should get myself a new hard drive.
ReplyDeleteI'm just commenting to comment because I'm cool like that. Lawl.
ReplyDeleteDang those big files. Lots of music.
@CityFlyer502 you and me both. It never ceases to amaze me what this fandom is capable of now if only i could decide on a brony shirt soo many options 0_o any ways it looks like I have alot of music comin my way with that Smile album and now this.
ReplyDeleteRats! My IP blocks all file sharing.
ReplyDelete@A Bard
ReplyDeletePretty sure they said an official soundtrack isn't going to happen.
Something about having to renegotiate the contracts of the singers, if I recall correctly.
Could be wrong, though.
@The Old Dog
ReplyDeleteJust replace your DNS, and you should be able to access it.
So James from Pokemon is a Brony eh?
ReplyDeleteFLAC = FLANK
ReplyDelete*me gusta flank files*
FLAC = Flawless Audio Codec. It basically means SUPER high quality music
ReplyDeleteNo Season 2 music?
ReplyDeleteHigh quality it is! it sounds a bit weird not hearing the background music to some of these, but its very interesting to listen!
ReplyDeletei approve greatly!
This is that Captain Comedy guy from this ED post for clarification:

Question for anypony whose downloaded this:
ReplyDeleteMy anti virus is showing a warning flag on this. Is my anit virus being overprotecive or is there something insipid here?
@Blue Cord Dragoon I've downloaded all of it in both formats and my computer's all good.
ReplyDelete@Blue Cord Dragoon Most likely being overprotective. No problems on my end as well.
ReplyDeleteListening to the Album now.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Season 2's Album.
Thank you, CaptainComedy!
Yeah, this is mine. If anyone has questions or comments I'll gladly answer them here!
ReplyDelete@ThatBronyDude I'd be happy to just contribute one drawing or something. This fandom is just one huge source of awesome and it would be just as awesome to give something back.
ReplyDeleteso much.
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to access the folder. Do i have to have an account?
ReplyDelete@wackypony
ReplyDeleteNo account is required. You may have to upgrade your browser. My old Firefox doesn't open the site at all any longer, but Chrome opens it fine.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Captain Comedy
ReplyDelete=| I'm running FF 3.6.
that may be why.
It was opening mediafire fine the other day.
it seems to have a problem with the folder. I copied the DL link of one of the downloads and it downloads it just fine.
ReplyDeleteCoincidence.
ReplyDeleteI was planning to wait for the official soundtrack, but just today I decided that it was taking too long and I'd get unofficial rips instead.
This saves me a LOT of translating youtube videos into mp3 files. Much higher quality too. (In before "you know it's easier to...")
I'll still buy the soundtrack once it is released.
Oh my Celestia it even has the instrumental version of Season 2's opening theme! I love the instrumental of Season 2's opening theme!
May have to wait to download though. I was about to go to bed, and I don't like to let my computer download large files unsupervised.
My name is James =0
ReplyDelete@cpbrony
ReplyDeleteFLAC = Free Lossless Audio Coces
Thanks Captain Comedy! I can't wait to check this out.
ReplyDeleteOoze33 and CityFLyer502
ReplyDeleteThanks for calming my fears. I'm downloading them now and cant wait to hear the soundtracks!
Why flac?
ReplyDeleteEven 320kbps mp3 is more than you need.
The tracks are super clean... I love it, it's the soundtrack that Hasbro never released. I can't wait for the Season 2 Album.
ReplyDelete@Krass McWriter
ReplyDeleteNever heard someone complain about too much quality before! There's a 320 MP3 version available as well. There's nothing that frustrated me more about previous collections than low quality, so I set out from the start to never let that be a problem.
If anyone was wondering before downloading, the tracks are separated into 4 discs.
ReplyDeleteDisc 1: The normal music like Winter Wrap-up. (this is updated from my previous release.)
Discs 2 and 3: Background music like the fashion show or the sonic rainboom.
Disc 4: Vocals only and instrumentals of every song on Disc 1, as well as Equestria girls.
@Captain Comedy
ReplyDeleteCan you release the sound effects alone ? (Yes, all the sound effects of MLP like the squeaking from Fluttershy)
Thank you Captain Comedy! Downloading as I type.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful!!!!
ReplyDeleteHm... This is nothing new. I've been enjoying studio quality mlp soundtrack (+ my own minor improvements) for a few months already. This guy is not the 1st one to remaster it.
ReplyDeleteI'm downloading it anyway to see if there's any additional content like bgm or something. With enough new content, it will be immortalized on torrent trackers ;)
@Maquabra

What? It's not a remastering?
You know, it'd be a lot nicer of you to judge what I've done if you actually looked at it first. The only reason I bothered to put the project together is because what I'm doing is something new, and at a level of quality that can't be surpassed until if and when a blu-ray release happens. I'd love to know what you think once you've actually listened to it though!
@Maquabra
ReplyDeleteUm... Way to give him no credit whatsoever.
Dazzled by the quality! I can now listen to the end credits theme without Hub ads too!
ReplyDeleteJust from listening to it I can tell a huge amount of effort went into this.
@Infusions
ReplyDeleteBut this doesn't do anything new! Rips have been out for months, he might as well have copy-pasted from those.
I don't understand why this gets time on EqD.
As a brony musician who uses samples all the time, I can assure you that this is a dream come true for me. Thank you SO MUCH for this!
ReplyDeleteHmm, perhaps there is a little confusion. These are not just any plain ol' rips. These are the highest quality audio files available to us in one place that are NOT ripped from an HD recording off of The Hub. The quality should be as close to the level as if they had been acquired from the studio itself.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Comedy, as many others have said; Thanks so, so much! Isolated vocals alone is pure gold.
People still seem to think this is just the songs like Winter Wrap-up. It's so much more than that.
ReplyDeleteIt's every background song, and instrumental / vocals only versions of every single musical number, as well as the musical numbers themselves. I really wish people would check what this collection actually is before commenting and complaining that it's nothing special or new.
Thanks to everyone else for the nice comments!
For those of you wondering, the files are sourced from AC5 5.1 iTunes rips. The FLAC versions are not truly lossless, but they are higher quality than my MP3 versions, so their existence is meaningful.
All these songs and background music, carefully separated to vocals and instrumental, that's amazing! I still don't understand how separating can work that well at all.
ReplyDeleteApart from an original studio recording, this is THE BEST POSSIBLE THING!
Now, the next turn is on Hasbro. Hasbro? HAASBROOO! You have all these studio recordings on your finger tips! They're too good to get dusty! Release them!
For those who don't like RAR files or can't open them, the MP3 version has been uploaded in .ZIP format as well. Enjoy!
ReplyDelete@404compliant
Thanks very much. We can only hope they'll release a real soundtrack!
Fixed the FLAC version. The tags on Disc 4 were for William Anderson, when they're supposed to be Daniel Ingram. Thanks to Rainer B for pointing it out!
ReplyDelete"FLAC? Give me ALAC~"
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd like ALAC myself. If that'd be possible for you, it would be great.
Awesome. :D
ReplyDeleteAWESOME WORK!!!
ReplyDeleteI love how all the tracks are so neatly tagged XD
By a few peoples' request, an ALAC (Apple Lossless) version is now up as well. Hopefully this covers every format anyone might need. I'll be sure to release Season 2 with MP3, FLAC, ALAC and .zipped MP3 right off the bat. Until then, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThank you for releasing this.
ReplyDeleteI've been checking on the old post on this every once in a while, and I'm very happy to see that this is finally out! A little bit of an audiophile myself, I'm really happy about the quality here. The wait was totally worth it! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I've downloaded all four discs of FLAC, but I don't see any of the awesome album covers. Are those separate?
ReplyDelete@Abraham
ReplyDeleteHi! Very glad to know some people kept checking up on it even after the months and months of delays.
The album covers are part of the FLAC files themselves. If you'd like to see them without looking in your media player of choice, they're here.
Disc 1: The MLP logo.
Disc 2: http://don-komandorr.deviantart.com/art/Poni-Music-257548703
Disc 3: http://itchymango.deviantart.com/art/That-pony-can-dance-204514504
Disc 4: http://ponyshot.deviantart.com/art/Bit-Hustlahs-229149281
Also happy to know you enjoy the collection! Hopefully I can get Season 2 out in a timely manner. :P
@Captain Comedy
ReplyDeleteOh, I see what the problem was. Amarok (my media player of choice) was grouping the four discs together into one thing and can't decide which image to show, so it showed none. Thank you for the links, though.
Well now that season 2 is wrapped, will there be a season 2 soundtrack? Cuz that would be epic
ReplyDelete@Chris Loomis
ReplyDeleteYou bet there will! I'm through 7 of the 26 episodes, working at a much faster pace than last year now that I know what I'm doing and I have the process down. If you want a few early tracks to tide you over I'll gladly email a few to anyone who sends me an e-mail.
Otherwise the wait shouldn't be very long at all. I don't want to make promises because then that puts pressure on me and makes me screw stuff up, but I enjoyed the fan response from last year so much that I'm determined not to let anyone down with huge delays this time.
Very glad people have an interest in another collection from me, I appreciate it very much. :)
@Captain ComedyThe songs were just so epic this year! Take your time! (But not too much time :P)
ReplyDeleteHere's an extended copy of "Love is in Bloom"
ReplyDeletehttp://videos.hasbro.com/video/694893024001/694893024001_1602311303001_Music-Video-Love-is-in-Bloom.mp4
@Chris Loomis
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chris. It's good to know this is out there, now I just have to hope a lossless version hits the web before I release season 2's collection. If that happens, I'll include it as a bonus track the way I did with Equestria Girls last year.
Thanks again! After a short work stoppage to finish some schoolwork, I'm back on things and am done with ripping the episodes themselves, now the only work that remains to be done is picking songs out from each episode and naming / sorting them, which is about 40% of the work. Things are moving along!
@Captain Comedy I just wanted to say (lol, a year late) that your season 1 UST was nothing short of incredible...and I'm really looking forward to when you'll be releasing season 2's UST :D
ReplyDeleteAny chance of lossless WMA?
ReplyDelete@Shrouded Wolf
ReplyDeleteThanks very much! I'm still incredibly glad people enjoy it.
@Paul Coddington
No promises, since my audio encoder of choice doesn't seem to support it, but once I finish the FLAC, ALAC .RAR MP3 and .ZIP MP3 versions, I'll do my research and try to get it done. I don't want to leave anyone out!
Do you happen know of any good programs to encode to Lossless WMA :D?
Also, out of curiosity, what are you trying to listen on that takes WMA Lossless? A Zune or something?
@Captain Comedy
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, how goes the progress with the soundtrack, my good sir?
@Shrouded Wolf
ReplyDeleteStill working on it. As always, college is getting in the way.
I am certain it'll be done around the end of June. But beyond that I can't make any promises. :(
@Captain Comedy
ReplyDeleteCan I ask why you waited untill the end of the season to get started? Wouldent it have been prudent to work on them shortly after each episode? Even if you released them at the end of the season.
Well, Reason or not, great job.
Anyone else having trouble downloading from media fire?
ReplyDeleteNow that we're into June, any updates?
ReplyDeletei can't wait for the season two soundtrack. It's gonna be so awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh man so excited!
ReplyDeleteStarting my final quality spot check now!
ReplyDeleteIf I can get a hold of Sethisto in a timely manner, it should be posted tomorrow around noon!
I saw they were in the media folder up there, and once I DL'ed 'em, noticed your missing "This Day" on Disc 1...
ReplyDeleteThanks again for doing this! Though are you considering adding in the BBBFF and Aria reprises?
ReplyDeleteThe reprises aren't separate songs, they're in there. Sethisto has the soundtrack and my info, so if you could wait until that post to leave comments please? That, or email me.
ReplyDelete@Chris Loomis
ReplyDeleteNoticed this, fixed it about ten minutes after upload. Should be fine now.
I completely missed that. Sorry!
ReplyDelete@Ooze33
ReplyDeleteNo worries!
Everyone else reading this comment: Please hold Season 2 comments for the post Sethisto will probably make after BronyCon. If you want Season 2 before then, go to http://tinyurl.com/PonyOST
Not to be impatient, but thought you might like to know before the post goes up and the majority download the pack: I have played the entirety of Disc 1 and skipped through all likely songs in the other discs looking for the reprise of This Day, and can confirm that the only way it could be there is if you named it something completely unrelated to the finale episode. It is in neither the disc 1 This Day nor the disc 4 inst/vocals. No comment on the BBBFF reprise, I don't recall what it was and haven't looked it up.
ReplyDeleteDecided to go and look it up; BBBFF is indeed there. Also, here's a link to the This Day reprise just in case you're having a brain fart (happens to the best of us) and thinking about the wrong thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJw0ktrsv6w
ReplyDelete@Sarda
ReplyDeleteWow, you're right. I'm very sorry about that. Either I missed it when I was ripping, or I had the lapse of judgment of deeming it unimportant.
I can't thank you enough for helping me out with these brain farts before the real post goes out. I'll be re-uploading the corrected versions within the hour. Once you seem them in the folder again, they're fixed.
Thank you again! If you find anything else wrong, please let me know! Preferably via email, since I get those immediately, whereas I have to check this post to find comments. I can be reached on Gmail as captaincomedy.
No problem! Glad to know I could help. Now I've got to go Audiosurf it again and see if I can get a higher spot on the scoreboards :D
ReplyDeleteI know it is probably too late to ask but... I noticed that in some Season 2 "incidental music" tracks, something like suppressed speech can be heard in the background. Some tracks are more affected than others, it is quite noticeable in "Chrysalis Revealed" for example. Is this intentional? I didn't notice anything like it in your Season 1 soundtrack.
ReplyDelete@caleb13
ReplyDeleteIt's a result of the sound designers actually putting way more work in this year. It's hard to remove vocals when they echo around all the audio channels. I did my best, but it was much harder than last year.
It isn't intentional.
I keep getting an end of archive message, can you help?
ReplyDelete@Fyrestorm
ReplyDeleteWhat file are you trying to download? Are you downloading all the parts to the same folder?
The files that have "part1.rar" "part2.rar" and so on all need to be downloaded before any of them can be extracted.
I HOPE this is the problem you're having. For faster responses, please e-mail me.
@Captain Comedy
ReplyDeleteOh well, that sucks. Still, your soundtrack is probably the best thing, at least until (or if) an actual official one is released.
I'm curious how you are able to separate the vocals. How does the method work? It analyzes the audio in the time domain? Or tries to find the vocals in the spectrum? Or is it something more "exotic" like wavelet analysis or neural network?
Season 2 is posted! Please direct further comments about Season 1 to my email address, listed in the post above.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/07/mlp-soundtrack-season-2-edition.html
Thank You Captain Comedy for uploading this soundtracks. Because of you I can start making mixing song using these soundtracks Brohoof
ReplyDeleteCaptain, you planning to release season 3 as per tradition?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Captain Comedy! I am a total soundtrack nut, and it's so good to have these, and in such good quality!
ReplyDelete-Ruqyo Highsong
@Conan Wolf
ReplyDeleteYup! Barring an official release of the same calibre, you can count on me each year!
I'm planning to do a tumblr account or something to raise awareness and slowly release songs as the episodes come out before releasing the big pack at the end. If you have comments or ideas for similar ideas, let me know! I'm always interested in getting the community more involved with my pet project :D

@Captain Comedy
ReplyDeleteIt seems that a Mediafire account is now needed to download any of the split archive files. Would you consider uploading the FLAC files to another location as, at the moment, we are unable to download them.
And by Mediafire account I mean a payed for account not a free one.
ReplyDeleteAny chance of rips of the DVD versions, since the audio on those are much higher quality than the iTunes uploads?
ReplyDeleteIt won't Let me Download the file! Some stupid pop up keeps telling me to upgrade to Media File account.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Hoof's going on?!
@Patrick H.
ReplyDeleteThe DVDs probably aren't 5.1, like the iTunes release is. So unless there's a Blu-ray release, which a Shout! Factory rep told me was not in the cards, there won't be better quality than my collection unless a CD release happens.
@blue-shadow24
I really have no idea. When I get around to Season 3, I'll re-upload Seasons 1 and 2 on another service. The problem where Mediafire asks you to log in only affects a small number of people, which is a maddening problem. If you have suggestions for a file hosting solution, please don't hesitate to let me know. It has to allow large files, and have no download limit. I'll also be making torrents available for all versions. I apologize for all the trouble!
Captain Comedy, many thanks for this marvellous work!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Mediafire is giving me the same problem of disallowing me to download split archives-- a quick trip to Google indicates there are a lot of people unhappy with Mediafire's new restriction.
You may have another filehosting service in mind, but if you don't, you might consider netkups. This was recommended by a dissatisfied Mediafire user, and looking on their website, netkups boasts of featuring a torrent service alongside direct download for files over 10MB.
Thank you again for the time you have put into this; my heart skipped a few beats when I found this page. I hope to listen to the complete soundtracks of seasons 1-3 soon!
So excited for season 3! Cannot.... bear..... the wait!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! My niece is very happy!
ReplyDeleteAny news on Season 3?
ReplyDeleteI just downloaded aple lossless disc with season 1 soundtack, burned cd and checked in the tau analyzer... and this tracks are NOT lossless! Frequency above 17,5 kHz was probably cut. What a dissapointment.
ReplyDelete
