ReplyDeleteWow, this was early, wasn't it? Especially for a Drawfriend on a new episode day. I've grown to expect those to be later than usual to allow for episode-centric artwork to be included. But then again, they often end up epically long, so I can see the desire to simplify things.

On to the wonderful selection we do have:
1) Pinkie loves, believes in and practices all holidays I would think. However, poor Sweetie Belle had her chocolate coins ravaged. I think Rarity is ready to lay down a whoopin' in the name of Apple Pie.
2) She is indeed Pinkie Pie, and that's all the explanation it takes. Of course, I personally just assumed she popped into the door and right into the path of the teleport spell that Twilight was aiming at Spike.
3) Discord looks almost... dare I say... cute?
4) Is that Mistletoe? Shouldn't Derpy come give her a peck on the cheek then?
5) Dash should totally show that to Rarity. I think Scootahats could become all the rage.
6) Cripes... not only was he good at magic, it looks like Starswirl the Bearded could crush Big Mac into applesauce between his hooves. Very cool color scheme on him... And, of course, epic beardage.
7) Luna looks upset about something. And this is sweet, pre-Nightmare Night Luna, so you had to have screwed up big-time to earn her displeasure.
8) I loved the Windigos... great play on the Wendigo monster name, and a very cool (no pun intended) design. I'm beginning to think that the ponies have to do all of those natural things like control the weather and change the seasons themselves just to keep other, more dangerous magical beings from stepping in to control them.
9) Nifty little Big Mac sketch.

12) ooh... Really nice Luna portrait. I just got done saying in the episode discussion how I thought that Celestia and Luna probably existed but stayed in space before the Ponies needed their help with Discord. I could see something like this for when the unicorns called out to move the moon.

ReplyDeleteA few months back, someone drew a few pieces of less than savoury artwork involving a certain red-maned Alicorn. I've never seen it, just blacked out thumbnails and the image tags. What I have seen, however, is an image of the alicorn in question eating a photo-shopped subway sandwich quite... enthusiastically.
Or, of course, someone just thought it would be funny to stick Lauren Faust in a Subway uniform.

#13: This one got me to laugh out loud; love Dash's expression, as well as the fact that she's poking her head under the cloud to see who's bothering her.
#15: The story in the artist's comment for this drawing really helps flesh out exactly what's happening, although this stands on its own as an excellent, though foreboding, image.
#16: I think Rarity was enjoying the rehearsals a little too much.
#20: Terrific seasonal image of the CMCs; their expressions are perfect.
#21: The notation in the upper right gives pretty much all the background you need for this pic, but I still urge everyone to read the artist's comment on dA. They've crafted a loving and fitting tribute to a loved one. Favorite for the night.

Starswirl the Bearded was first referred to in the episode "Luna Eclipsed" as a powerful, trailblazing unicorn wizard from ancient times; he also got a brief mention in the latest episode. I suspect the show's creators got his name from the toy, though it could also be an amusing coincidence. (And there's also speculation that Starswirl was actually a mare who wore a beard in order to avoid discrimination...)

ReplyDeleteIt was a picture of Lauren Faust's alicorn character in a Subway uniform, in a Subway. While the image was innocent enough, it references Rule 34 involving that character, which is extremely distasteful.

ReplyDelete20 is my favorite out of this batch; the CMC's expressions are absolutely adorable. 12 and 14 are also excellent; Vinyl's color scheme goes shockingly well with Christmas-y stuff and that's probably my favorite Luna pic in a long time.
Although I never saw it, I can guess what #18 is.

ReplyDeleteWhy was 18 deleted? It was a good drawing, there wasn't anything particularly wrong with it. Sure, it might have been a bit of an in joke to something more unsavoury, but it was still good on its own merits.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I was a lot less happy with some of the comments about the pic than with the pic itself; my only concern with the drawing itself was with the possibility of someone from the show taking it the wrong way, especially once I found out the artist herself meant for it to be poking fun at the r34 pics. (Which is why I also posted a direct link to the pic in one of my later comments; I just wish I'd had time to read the dA comments earlier, while the debate here was still raging.) But yeah, I think pretty much the entire situation about posting that pic turned into a huge clusterbuck. :P
This whole mess makes me disappointed at EqD. Unless Lauren Faust personally complained about that picture, I don't think there was a good reason to take it down.

I would not have found said images if I had not had to dig for the link to the picture and search on ponibooru for the picture. I realize now that I was wasting my time looking there, and now I need to go buy another gallon of mind bleach.
