I wonder if we ever will see the real Discord origin story? So many questions that I'm dying for answers on here. I really hope this series is around long enough to answer them.
heres how i think it happened Discord and Celestia were dating,Discord does something she doesnt like, she dumps him, he corrupts Luna as revenge, and Nightmare Moon is born.
This was amazing. AND SETH! "I hope this series is around long enough to answer them..." Shame on you lad! Truth be told, season 2 has been addressing a broader view of Equestria. I think Hearth's Warming Eve has potential to blow a LOT of minds. Potential though so we have to wait and see...
Very nicely done and the music was very appropriate I think.
I am a little disappointed at the quality because for quite a bit of the comic there's a second narrative running along side and you can't really see any of that in this video. It adds another level to the story.
this was awesome, the art was fantastic and the music fitted in perfectly. the only thing bugging me was the text that flashed by to fast forcing me to stop the vid X(
this is the best origin story I've seen to date, or at least on par with that comic about the three of them in everfree forest. This is a little more grimdark, but all the more believable because of it. It actually gives some depth Discord while making Celestia look much more shallow. And it's not quite clear to tell if Discord is doing everything just for his pleasure and fun or if it's centered on revenge.
@Cedric Bale The background music is made by Immediate Music and chronologically there is: Epicon Lacrimosa (Preilator) Serenata In League with Cerberus Mercutio
There are more versions of them so I listed those I remember and most of them can be found on YouTube.
Really a shame he missed the last lines ("Fortunately... I have an appreciation for beauty") because it provides a wonderful book end with the first page and was the most powerful part of the comic for me.
I loved the comic and the way this has been adapted into a video however.. the video adaptation resolution is not that great, and and as a result its impossible to see a few lines of text which blend with the background.
I always felt a little torn on this comic as these types of comics tend to feel a little on the cheesy side to me. Unless they're done in just a specific way. This comic overall is good. And I really like it in video form. Music matched well too. Discord is made out to be a little more of a true demon in this than the show of course.
If there were dark episodes, more realistically based, it would probably go something like this. Got shivers while watching! Great job, one of the better pieces of fan produced art!
I want this to be made into a fanfiction. Or an animation. Something. Its too awesome to leave. Fantastic job on the instrumentals, and whoever drew the comic is amazing.
@Golden Sun's Heart *smirks* I think if your response to being rejected is to torture and kill an entire species of sapient beings, that qualifies you as a monster.
Celestia was right to see only a monster. Discord didn't 'become' one as he purports to believe. That such an action was his reaction shows the evil that always dwelt within.
And he's not even true chaos! Chaos doesn't plan. Chaos doesn't care. Chaos doesn't feel. It's random, unpredictable, often surreal. And its actions never, ever make sense. Discord acted in revenge. Revenge takes cunning; cunning takes thought; thought requires ORDER! Discord = Chaos fail! >:D
If anything Pinkie Pie, with her wild mood swings and multiplex absurdities, is a better embodiment of chaos than Discord! Let that stew in your minds, fan-fic writers! ;3
@Alondro...discord planned only the events that would cause the downfall of the Alicorns. That was to protect himself. He plans when it is necessary to maintain chaos. He is disharmony's spirit, but not its embodiment. Everything else he did was true chaos.
Which is another thing; his decision to eradicate the Alicorn race was one of necessity. they were standing in his way, so he killed them. He didn't do it because Celestia rejected him, he did it because they were trying to stop him. That isn't to say he didn't enjoy it more because of Celestia's rejecting him, it just would have happened anyway had he come to the realization under other circumstances that chaos was his calling.
Pinkie Pie is ORGANIZED chaos. Pinkie Pie may be random, but she only brings about GOOD randomness. Positive change. Discord brings both good AND bad, and thrives on the unpredictability. At least with Pinkie pie you know it'll be enjoyable, but chances are the same that Discord will burn down your house with lemons as they are he'll cause your apples to quadruple in size and make feeding your family that much easier.
And of course he was always a monster, HE EVEN SAID THAT IN THE COMIC. "She was right about me, though. I was... and am... a monster." You can see it at 4:20 in the video, or if it's too fuzzy you can find it in part 5 of the comic itself. The intent was never to portray him as secretly good, it was merely to give him background. He is indeed evil, and always has been, this is merely the story of how he came to that realization.
@AlexReffand I'm not sure I agree with you there on Discord. The whole Pinkie Pie thing is fine, but I feel your treating Discord too harshly. I got more that he was not a monster until Celestia broke his heart. He might have said that he was always a monster, but i think he means he always had the POTENTIAL to be a monster. When Celestia ruined him, he fell into rage and hate which we all can say, in some relation, is mental chaos. This caused him to tap into a power buried inside him that was dormant and unleash it onto the world. The fury within him supplied his power, and when the Alicorns tried to stop him it made it worse. He was consumed by a vicious cycle of his anger feeding chaos and then the Alicorns ruining what he created, and thus feeding his fury. He killed them all from more of an uncontrollable instinct and the pain scarred in him. I also believe that when he saw Celestia when he was being turned to stone, her expression, her continued distaste for him is why he is still this way now. He's come to terms with the idea that she will never like him the way he wanted, and nor does he want her to now. He is now just creating chaos because it is the only thing that he has left for him to "control". Also, I'm not sure if you ment it or not but, "burn down you house with lemons"? Is that a Portal reference? It sure seems like it. But once again, I love the video and encourage more.

Oh, cool. I haven't seen one of these comic video adaptations for a while.
ReplyDeleteI used to wonder what first-ship could be~
ReplyDeleteAnd I still wonder.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is that background music? I know it, I know I know it...
@Cedric Bale "Used to," implying you were successful.
ReplyDeleteDayum, this is really epic. Awesome choice of music!
ReplyDeleteDiscord is cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a big fan of the whole Celestia/Discord ship, but I accept this as awesome regardless.
ReplyDeleteDon't you understand Seth? The series will be around FOR-EVER!!
ReplyDeleteIT MUST!!!!
Wow, the chills I get from this.. I don't even know where to begin.
ReplyDeleteTo much epic put it away before somepony gets hurt
ReplyDeleteHe may be the master of Chaos but I'm the master of Travesty.
ReplyDeleteheres how i think it happened
ReplyDeleteDiscord and Celestia were dating,Discord does something she doesnt like, she dumps him, he corrupts Luna as revenge, and Nightmare Moon is born.
I think this was a very dark comic. Not usually something I would watch. But this was very well done. Nice sound and visuals.
ReplyDeleteSo basically, its all Celestia's fault. Good job.
ReplyDeletewell she was prob a teenager when it happened so yea you know how teens are
ReplyDeleteEpic. I was wondering about this too, great to know someone did it.
ReplyDelete... I'm gonna go make cinnamon buns then. Not sure why this inspired me to do that...
ReplyDeleteCrappyUnicorn, you and your drugs.
ReplyDeleteYou make great art though...

ReplyDeleteSo Its hard to say If Discord was a Monster or Just upset
ReplyDelete@Cedric Bale
ReplyDeleteThen you realize that this comic was about the first ship (shipping) chronologically. First-ship indeed.
Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThis was great!

@Golden Sun's Heart
ReplyDeleteOh he is and was a monster in this, that's not up for debate. Check CrappyUnicorn's dA for the explanation.
This was amazing! And I feel like show creators should give Discord some more bacground :( It's just sad he had to end up like that.
ReplyDeleteMan, this is some serious shit over here. Epic as fuck!
ReplyDeleteYay! What I forwarded to you went through!
ReplyDeleteCelestia is a bitch. I watched Gladiator previously and now I'm crying....
ReplyDeleteThese are always so awesome. Even after reading the comic awhile ago it's just not the same without the music.
ReplyDelete>Video starts telling your about using HD video and audio to make the experience better
ReplyDelete>Video is in 480p
WAT.
Aw, the guy making the video didn't get the last lines. But Sandman's right, there's half-hidden words all through the comic that make it even better.
ReplyDeleteWow, that was incredible.
ReplyDeletethis was awesome, the art was fantastic and the music fitted in perfectly. the only thing bugging me was the text that flashed by to fast forcing me to stop the vid X(
ReplyDeleteEpic! Good Job! Indeed.
ReplyDeleteYay! Featured!! I was the one who made the vid. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE LOVE!! <3

Band is called Two Steps From Hell. They don't publicly release a lot of their work because they do movie trailer music.

ReplyDeleteOtherwise, excellent work!
@Earwig well, it did add a better dramatic effect. kinda like having a cliffhanger at the end of a grimdark story.
ReplyDeleteI'm not that mean, you've gone and made me sad now.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the better interpretations of Discrods beginnings, I really like this one. Very touching if a little dark.
Great video.
@Rodman Author said that 2000 times. This story is from Discord perspective. HE thinks it's celestias fault.
ReplyDeleteSo who's gonna make a fanfic after my vid nao? ;D
ReplyDeleteI got chills at the ending.
ReplyDeletegreat story i love the art
ReplyDeleteOMG! that was......GREAT! it makes you think. i loved it. i want MORE. XD

ReplyDeleteNot normally a fan of shipping of any sort. This, however, I thoroughly enjoyed. Fantastic work here!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Just simply beautiful.

SO AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI got chills.
ReplyDelete"The last thing I saw"
"Was her."
"Fortunately"
"I have an appreciation"
"For beauty."
So I take it there's a comic precursor to this? Or is it this but just in a comic form? Either way, where can I find it?
ReplyDeleteGreat it's down ... can someone re-upload this ?
ReplyDeleteAH GEE GEE I AM IN LOVE WITH DIZZY!
