Whoa! A Cheerilee centric fic?! I don't believe I've ever read such a thing! This shall be read.
ReplyDeleteOC and Cheerilee. <_< hmm.... normally i avoid OC ponies in shipping like the plague.
ReplyDeleteIf I read this, I'm probably going to cry.
ReplyDeleteThis is genius, definitely putting it on my list!
ReplyDeleteWhat does a Sad tag mean if it's purple?
ReplyDeleteA Cheerilee story? With the additional tag "Welcome Back Trotter"? Heh... I'm reading that one.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why she'd be fired for her students freeing Discord. It's not her fault the Cutie Mark Crusaders naturally cause problems no matter what they do.
ReplyDeleteCheerilee is the best pony! Off to read this now.
ReplyDeleteCheerilee is now our go-to pony for any and all 80's parodies, homages, and crossovers.
ReplyDeleteWackyteen, unfortunately there's no other cannon pony's that both work in education and fit, especially in a new setting.
ReplyDeleteHey, MrTuzzor, you'll enjoy the sad! It's all to make emotional room for the 80's montage!
OminousBrony, the idea was since they do this on school business the school is liable. Trust me, if my students did half of what the CMC do on school trips, I'd be moving out of Ponyville. :D
Thanks for the comments, everybody! I should have Ch. 4 up before Thanksgiving.
5 stars for naming it after Spike Lee's 2nd feature film.
ReplyDelete*hurls trash can through Sugarcube Corner window*
Hahahaha. That's flipping brilliant
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the description I totally wanted to read it straight away... and probably I will. Sounds really interesting. Lookin forward to the community feedback on this fic
ReplyDelete(In reference to the post image) Ms. Cheerilee is not impressed by your spelling skills. Do it again.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good story, if only there were less spelling errors :(
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSpelling errors? ARGH! Rhapsody, I will try harder; I may need more than one prereader.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't the school be spending budget on things the school needs? Like Surplus guard armor for the teachers. How about desks with built in hoof cuffs? Then just have the teachers rotate rooms instead of the students.
ReplyDeleteMan, I don't wanna read this. It reminds me of High School.
ReplyDeleteIs this going to be like Bad Teacher (2011)? That movie sucked.
ReplyDelete@Equinenox
ReplyDeleteI was thinkin the same thing
Loved what I saw of this when pre-reading, the writing is fantastic and does some really clever things. Can't wait to dive into it in earnest - even just a cursory glance revealed a pretty much compulsory five star.
ReplyDeleteIt's NOT a 'Bad Teacher' inspired fic; and the sources involve good teachers. Thanks to everyone for the support!
ReplyDeleteDamn! The only other Cheerilee shipfic on this site and it isn't with Twilight?
ReplyDeleteOh well.
@paleoprints
ReplyDelete*reads fic* Nothing in that school a few whips and chains wouldn't fix! *favors Inquisition-style teaching methods* Fear works wonders on the stupid! *is in training for his inevitable rise to World Emperor* >:3
How is a story a sad comedy?
ReplyDeleteBecause laughing at a character's patheticness isn't funny.
(Yes I realize "patheticness" isn't a word. Be quiet.)
Tundra, good concern. The jokes are sprinkled between the struggles, and the struggles are there to motivate the characters to overcome their situations.
ReplyDeleteYou're right in that it's not black humor pointing and giggling at Cheerilee's hardships. As comparison, one of my favorite comics was Peter David's Hulk. There was always heavy drama going on, but David would always slip in a joke or funny scene in-between so it didn't become soul-crushingly bleak.
I threw in the Sad tag because I knew a lot of readers would feel bad from Cheerilee's day-to-day struggles and hardships. I'm not planning a Shakespearean tragedy, so there's no Grimdark tag. I just wanted to warn the readers there would might be a sniffle or two between the snickers.
Think more like Dangerous Minds and High School High. Just in a blender.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually rather enjoying this. Ought to be interesting.
ReplyDelete@paleoprints
ReplyDeleteThis is what I wanted to hear. I remember seeing the pic in drawfriend, and I HAD to save it. Cheerilee is one of the best ponies.
Anyway, when I saw the pic, and read the description, I instantly thought of Bad Teacher. I was thinking of Cheerilee apathetically teaching, and abusing her students. That's something I don't want to read. Glad to hear it's not. I will read this.
Also: am I the only one picking up a potential Freedom Writers/Dead Poets Society vibe?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to read this just because I love that picture.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... The picture is good, the tags are good and the synopsis is even better.
ReplyDeleteBuck, another fanfic on the readlist.
“Trust me, boy. Lifespan of stars, attention span of a gnat.”
ReplyDeleteLol! Love you for that line alone!
@paleoprints
ReplyDelete“All my friends go dancing with me or none at all! You should be able to dance if you want to. If you want to dance and my ‘friends’ won’t dance then they’re no friends of mine. Let’s take you home.”
I see what you did there... safety dancing time, activate!
Plus: Discord spawn. Hoo-boy, this is gonna get messy!
It's like the '80s exploded all over the place. I -HIGHLY- approve of that.
ReplyDelete*reads to the end of chapter 5*... WHAT???
ReplyDelete@TimberDon't worry, Timber; this is the halfway point of the movie. It's always darkest before the montage.
ReplyDeleteJust a small town mare living in a lonely world she took the midnight train going anywhere
ReplyDeleteHaven't had a lot of time to comment, but wanted to say that I'm really enjoying this one, from the clever song nods to the teacher tropes. Really fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteHey Paleo Prints!
ReplyDeleteJust read this story over the weekend. Love it so far! I can't wait to get the second half.
I liked the aside about Celestia trying to help out the folks of Old Canterlot by setting out gold-plated statues for them to steal. "WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET THEM TO TAKE THE TAIL!" XD
I love this so much. Keep up and it might hit 6 star.
ReplyDeleteWhere in the world am I supposed to go to read this? The link doesn't show the actual story or anything. D:
ReplyDelete@ForeverSoaringSoaring, just scroll down a little. FimFic uses a huge banner but the story is right below.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I want to say that the montage in the latest chapter was a work of PURE GENIUS. I had so much fun visualizing that entire sequence. Please continue to include read-along music, even if not in montages.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I was a little confused by the pacing at the beginning of the latest chapter; call it an awkward break after chapter 5. Might want to grab a prereader, as there are a few errors and awkwardly written sentences in this chapter.
Overall great though. I anxiously await the next installment.
It's like there's an orgy in my fanfiction and the '80s were invited.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome, and getting more awesome by the chapter. Keep up the good work, my good man.
Well written, love the characters. Wonderful story. I look toward to every chapter!
ReplyDeleteThat montage needs to be animated. Curse my pathetic flash and drawing skills!
ReplyDeleteThat montage. My mind, it is blown. :-D
ReplyDeleteThis whole fanfic so far is really well done. The 80s montage surprised me, and 80s-song-references all over the place. And boy, Chef Sandy and Applecider having a "guest appearance", including their famous YAY-button? I was sitting in front of my screen, applauding to the author. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteThis story just keeps improving as it goes on... Not only was the latest chapter hilarious, it was also quite touching. I was choked up at Screwball's efforts to get the right words out to Cheerilee. Love the radio show, and all of the call-ins. The Discord appearance was menacing and fun (Liked the Deep Space Nine reference) as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
@paleoprints
ReplyDeleteSo many... song puns... gratuitous, over-used Skyrim joke.. can't.. go on... must talk like... William Shatner...
I liked the Tears For Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" lines! So few even remember it these days, but it was one of my first favorite songs!
Hmm... Cheerilee bucked Discord.. and it seemed to hurt him, albeit briefly. A simple earth pony caused him pain. *evil smile* Well well well, not so impervious as he'd like everypony to believe! So much the better. Ah Discord, my old friend. Revenge is a dish best served with pinto beans and muffins!
And nukes. >:3
Discord?
ReplyDeleteCute Screwball moment?
badass drunk Cheerlilee?
yay?
god damn that was a fucking awesome chapter
AND ARROWS IN KNEES
ReplyDeleteThis fic just powers through its imperfections with sheer fun.
ReplyDelete...gods damn it, I will never be able to hear Yay in the same way again.
Down to the wire.
ReplyDeleteBrony Musicians, make it happen.
Jailhouse converted to schoolhouse... Strangely fitting. (Pink Floyd "another brick in the wall" was playing in my head most of the second chapter...)
ReplyDelete*skids to a halt with flames and grins*
ReplyDeleteHmm...maybe mixing 2 litters of Pepsi and mentos was a good idea...anyway, this story is totally awesome, can't wait to see Cheerliee kick Discords butt. lol Well...gota jet!
*pops*
@Stormcaller
ReplyDeleteSi Fron: *Hacking away at a rope with a shovel* Must get away from StormCaller before I go insane! Oh look, a story I like! *5 stars before getting dragged off to the next fic*
The montage, man. The montage...
ReplyDeleteIt was glorious.
I LOVE this fic!
ReplyDelete@paleoprints
ReplyDeleteI have this terrible feeling that Screwball will end up having a stroke by the time this is all over (if she hasn't already). But I have to find out how this ends, and whether Cheerilee will make good on her threat to rip Discord a new one.
Bring on the last chapter!
CHAPTER TEN YEAAAHHH
ReplyDeleteAnd thus ends one of the few fics that I remember seeing from a long time ago. It was truly a great fic
ReplyDeleteSchool daze seen so many updates for this. I'm actually gonna read it for once, I have a good feeling I'll like it.
ReplyDeletedid the comment system change?
ReplyDeleteIt can't be over... No more snickering every time the header image pops up on the EQD mainpage!
ReplyDeletei-it's OVER? say it ain't so! not the kind of news I wanted to hear before bed! why do I always get that last second itch to 'see if Seth updated sumthin' new' before bed each night!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm sad ;^;
I'm glad I at least put this one on hold since I wanted to save at least a few good fics before I run out of good stuff to read.. you were suppose to last longer! best Cheerilee story out there :(
This story. I love it. Its so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteSad this is over, going to miss seeing it update. Definitely the best Cherilee story I've read, thanks for this great story.
ReplyDeleteThis story was a great deal of fun, with so many unique and funny touches throughout. I loved the high school movie cliches, the montage, the various call-outs to 80's hits, the musical number to end the school year and more.
ReplyDeleteI can't argue with how it ended, but I was a little sad that Cheerilee wasn't going back to Ponyville. She was the last hope of keeping the CMC's from dooming all Equestria. Still, the follow-up trailer made up for that in some small measure.
Great job all around! Thanks for taking the time to write it and share it, as I got hours of enjoyment from Cheerilee and Screwy.
This was an epically awesome story. I loved the whole thing. Thank you for writing it.
ReplyDeleteSo many great cliches, funny dialogue, and nostalgic moments! It was so fun to read! I usually like characterization through heavy dialogue, but even without characters talking their heads off, I got a feel for all the characters, and they all made lasting impressions.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the greatest fics. Ever. So sad that it ended, but I'm gonna remember this one for a long while! Your writing is good, so keep at it!
Oh Blogger, why aren't you available all the time?
ReplyDeleteThat's it.
Oh Blogger, why aren't you available all the time?
