Check it out after the break!
Early on in the episode, you can find a Nyandash poster on the wall. Truly a glorious internet meme reachout right there!
And we can't ignore the striking similarity to Darkwing Duck's hat. It's almost a shame that Mare-Do-Well was just the mane cast dressed up, I want to see more of that awesome costume in the future.
And we can't forget Derpy Hooves. Look at her.. she's so happy.
We also now have 100% official confirmation of the balloon inhabitants. I'll miss you Al-Capony...
Overall a solid episode. I was of course, hoping for some Trixie, and the overabundance of Snips+Snails had me thinking she just might show up, but I'm always hoping for Trixie, so it doesn't actually count.
And finally, Rainbow Dash in general. Her mannerisms, poses, everything. If you really pay attention, it's amazing how well animated she is. They did an excellent job.
Whave a few random videos too. Enjoy!

... Pinkie Pie is best pony. This blog is invalid. Fix it.
ReplyDelete@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteNo they didn't, it's blasphemy.
Oh my God, so many clones.
ReplyDelete. . .should we watch or fire a Megaton Chaos Charge Discord? Cause all the Sethistos has me confused and scared.
@Shadow Heart
ReplyDeleteIt is OK, it is a mobile problem. Hopefully Seth will fix this soon.
PS: No one on Desktop can look at mobile comments. Atleast, I can not find your comment on this post.
@Sethisto
ReplyDelete2 posts a Minuit for a solid HOUR? For the love of all things pony, Shuuut UP!
I mean that in the nicest possible way. I'm all for tolerating, but no one else gets to say anything!
Alone < Team. Heh. Just compare RD's alone to Mare-Do-Well's team! You get more out with people instead of flooding it with more MeMe.
Am I the only one that see's 90% of these posts as Sethiso. 0.o
ReplyDeleteNo you aren't, I'm freaking out here o.o
ReplyDeleteI'm..... Gunna stop reading comments for life now.....
Woah. If you look carefully at when apple jack is being immortalized as
ReplyDeleteDashes friend, a frame before the camera flash, it looks like theyre kissing. JUST LOOK AT IT SLOWLY!
It was a nice episode :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, nevermind. After watching the original episode again looking for that scene, I can see that this had been tampered with to make it look as though this is an appledash scene. Even without the tampering it still looks like that.
ReplyDeleteHey Seth, I gotta ask. Here are a little over 200 comments on this, and it looks as though you make up abou 85% of those comments. Why do you like to hear yourself type?
ReplyDeleteOH! I forgot my opinion on THIS episode, ahaha. Silly me!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it but it wasn't one of my favorites. The Ticket Master and Applebuck Season are both down on the bottom of the list, for me. ;[
Shiny comment system O_O
ReplyDeleteI love this episode AND the new comment system. So much better than the old!
ReplyDeleteTest
ReplyDeleteAs for the episode itself, I have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it is probably one of my least favorite episodes from both seasons so far.
It really amazes me that even the sub-par episodes manage to be totally awesome.
Here's to Merriwether Williams for an episode that is better than 99.9% of everything else on TV. It can only get better from here, after all.
I feel that this is most likely the case. Even if you want to believe that the dam is a "magic dam" and all the appliances run off of "magic," the ponies of Equestria live in a world that is clearly not middle ages as far as technology or society are concerned.
ReplyDeletei think that they are more arguing with everything everyone that hates this episode has said and that you just had the misfortune of bringing it up first
ReplyDeleteI liked all the superhero references in this episode.
ReplyDelete*spoiler*
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this episode thoroughly. Wasn't my favorite of the season, but I did feel quite satisfied when I figured out it was all of them was mare-do-well before the show actually told the audience.
You forgot the Batman: The Animated Series Posters that the crowd is holding up in the second video.
ReplyDeleteWho knows what evil lurks in the harts of ponies? The Shadow knows!
ReplyDeleteI don't mean "hate" in the literal sense. People simply act as though they do when they show their extreme dislike of it. And the ending of the episode's lesson can apply to many things. While it may have been inspired by religion somewhat by the writer/a few people there, we don't know, but we know it is still a VERY true moral in many cases. Not all.
ReplyDeleteAnd Lauren Faust said she disagreed with the interpretation of the message in in response to Jukashi's comment: "Personally, as with others I was a little put off by the "lesson" of the episode, which came off to me as "don't bother trying to understand things." She never said the idea of it applying to religion wasn't something she wanted. It just wasn't the ONLY thing.
But I realize at this point that I'm pretty much going to start another Pinkie Keen debate if this goes on. So I say we all just drop this right now.
HOW MANY OF THESE COMMENTS ARE SETH?! I'm scared now..
ReplyDeleteComment exploded into a million tiny pieces of glittery magic.
ReplyDeleteFeeling Pinkie Keen is an underrated gem. No other episode has more references to classic Looney Tunes, the hydra is wonderfully characterized, it brought us both Twilight's lab and her mane catching fire, the scripting is very well done ("I call 'em 'combos.'"), and the writer shows great ingenuity in finding new ways to smack Twilight around. All of this discarded because at the end the show appears to support superstition.
ReplyDeleteI'm as atheist as anyone you could hope to find. If something happens in the world that you can't explain, it doesn't mean a defeat for science; it means that science just doesn't have an explanation yet. This may well be contrary from the moral that Twilight takes out of it, but then, it is just a show.
Of all the worst things that could happen, this is
ReplyDeleteTHE
WORST
POSSIBLE
THING
HERNIA CANNONFACE. <---this.
ReplyDeleteDat kiss...me gusta.
ReplyDeletei did not like it
ReplyDelete1. Ponies live in their own universe, Now they have electric power plants, construction sites, and water dams? "Equestria Water Dam" Does not really fit in.2. Rainbow Dash being a big hero WTF, sure she is a heroic pony but Having a fan club and people walking around with t-shirts of here is a little ridiculousness.It's fine to mix things up in a kids show but that was just all over the place.
Holy apples, I can comment on EQD now.
ReplyDeleteDashie is best pegasus.
ReplyDeletePegasus are best ponies.
Ergo, Dashie is best pony.
Al-capony ;-;
ReplyDeleteshwiping
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is contrary to Twilight's moral, after all if something is evidently real you shouldn't reject its existence just because science doesn't have an explanation for it yet. There's a difference between acknowledging something as real and being able to explain it.
ReplyDelete...That's not the original Datkwing Duck theme. I am disappoint.
ReplyDelete@Umandsf
ReplyDeleteActually, it IS the original; that was the theme for the pilot episode.
@John Harris
ReplyDelete"I'm as atheist as anyone you could hope to find. If something happens in the world that you can't explain, it doesn't mean a defeat for science; it means that science just doesn't have an explanation yet."
Indeed.
Of course saying that accepting minor twitches by a friend predict events is tantamount to religious dogma triumphing over science is like saying, "I want a beer" is indicative of a precipitous slide into rampant alcoholism.
(Even then, to be "religion" it would actually have to involve a coherent set of moral beliefs and a mythology, not someone going along to a set of hunches...)
Now, now, just because it was the main cast dressed up doesn't mean they can't use it again in a later episode.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Rarity and Dash can even get a chance in the costume, too!
Yeah, not likely, but meh. ^_^
@Adam Crocker @John Harris
ReplyDeleteEven this might be framing it all the wrong way. Twilight was unable to figure out only why it happened. The fact that Pinkie Sense was consistent and verifiable means that science says it's a real thing. It's then not even a loss for science unless you completely misconstrue science itself.
Hydroelectric dams and bowling alleys don't ruin an episode for me... they just lessen my enjoyment a bit.
ReplyDeleteAt least the dam had Tesla's wireless energy transmitters. Powerlines all over Equestria WOULD be a huge turn-off!
There was another "Darkwing Duck" parody video that I thought was edited better.
ReplyDeleteHow could newborn baby ponies be less cute than their adolescent and adult counterparts? Maybe there's a limit to how cute a thing can be, and anything cuter looks instead like a fish-eyed demonspawn.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it was the animators' subtle way of mocking that terrifying baby Pinkie Pie doll. *shudder*
Truth is Mare-do-well is actually Princess Luna in Disguise.
ReplyDelete@PopeHatSkeleton
ReplyDeleteI guess newborn cuties are like the 'ugly duck' that grows up into a beautiful swan.
Am I the only one who wasn't put off by the electric dam? While at first I found it strange, I quickly realized, "This explains where they get their electricity." They have electric lights (S1 E1), humidifiers (S1 E22), Rarity uses an ELECTRIC sewing machine (multiple episodes, S1 E14 for example), need I go on? The point I'm making of this is, if they are using electricity, they have to generate it from somewhere.
ReplyDeleteNow personally, I like this episode. The biggest complement of all I wish to say is the pacing. Some of this seasons previous ones felt a little rushed, especially at certain times, but this one did not. I do have to ask one thing though, is Dash the only one who can do anything in times of crisis (and subsequently the other Mane 6)? When the baby carriage went down the hill, I had flash backs to Linkara's History of Power Rangers- Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers season 2. I won't spoil it, check it out if you haven't.
Overall though, a great episode in my opinion, the subtitles were fantastic, no one was out of character, the pacing was spot on, and I personally do love the fact that Pinkie got to use her Pinkie sense again. (If they're suppose to be heroes, why wouldn't she use it?)
@John Harris
ReplyDelete(clapping in agreement)
Thank you for stating what needs to be stated.
As for this episode, that is, The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well.... I really didn't like it, despite all the wonderful references. It doesn't treat the groups' friendship as all that healthy a thing. Regardless of Rainbow Dash's ego getting inflated, the group's response to it was kind of mean. One could easily take an adverse lesson from the story: keeping secrets from a friend while you actively work against something they care deeply about is fine so long as you consider it to be for their own good. Think: if this happened to you, wouldn't you wonder afterwards about what else your friends would do if they thought you needed to learn a lesson? It's kind of the opposite lesson as that of Party of One, if you think about it.
ReplyDeleteIt makes for a fun story, sure, the storytelling has a lot of energy and the references (esp. to Batman and Darkwing Duck, neither of which could have been an accident) are as clever and smart as always. But I don't think it is fair to the characters.
(Now that I've made it clear that I think far too much about ponies, I'm going to bow out of this conversation.)
i don't get whats up with all this ponyville logic and stuff although it is fun to read the comments. so far i liked all the episodes i do kind of dislike rainbow dash having a big ego but i got to wake up on a Saturday morning to watch a good show with my younger siblings and we all enjoyed it and like always we cant wait to see the next episode!
ReplyDeleteI don't buy that the dam is actually an electric dam. First of all, it's /tiny/. A dam that small would not be able to power an entire city, let alone provide enough energy for even a microwave.
ReplyDeleteMy bet is that it's a water purification system. You know, to keep the river flowing through Ponyville clean so they have fresh drinking water and so forth.
As for the rest of the episode, it's been growing on me a bit to the point where I actually like it. And this is from being a huge Dash fan, too. But really, at first Dash was being humble. She was really confused and genuinely alarmed at ponies considering her a hero at first. But then ponies lavished her with praise, and, well, we saw the results. Anyone would get a bit of an ego after that. Her already considerable pride just made it worse for her.
LOL. I see the Appledash fans want to believe. It's amazing how many people have yet to realize that the "kiss" was photoshopped in. :p
ReplyDeleteI don't think she had anything to do with this episode, but that Darkwing Duck "reference" just makes me think of Sibsy's obsession with that character. :D
ReplyDeleteWoops, looks like the comment got lost when Disquss was removed. Here I leave my review of the episode guys.

ReplyDeleteAs i mentioned earlier back in saturday, this episode went with the way too "exaggerating" reactions and situations which have always cringed/twitched/shivered me with slight frustation. Those who'd like to read a bit more details, here perma-link to that comment of mine (it's here on EQD): http://bit.ly/ug9pYZ
ReplyDeleteBut, this doesn't mean that like with "Luna Eclipsed" that the episode was "bad-bad": There was just lots of missed chances to tell the story differently. And the team decided to go the "safe way". Granted though, there was indeed some very good jokes in this episode too. Though still saying, there was lots of cases when things just were too...Let me say it one line, for example: "There is indeed something wrong with that abomination in the baby-carriage..." (yes, i know it's meant to "resemple" the toy line, bu that was simply creepy) *jumps a land-eel*
But yeah, techically-wise the episodes are getting better and better one by one. But they'll need to a slightly more careful with the writing. Then again, this episode was written by one who has written /something) to Sponbe-non Squarepants and Camp Lazzlo (again, some exaggerating-series)...
A false friend is an jerk who only brags and talks about his success after he/she attempts to accomplish or achieve a task in life. But a true friend, on the other hoove, leaves his/her comments to themselves and has modesty, grace, and care for their friends.
ReplyDelete@twohumanIt's True! it does happen, has to be! flashing lights doesn't make apple jack bulge her cheakes! must be! the shipping has been offically granted an 'undeniable' window! if no one makes a comic, parody, story, frame edit off this frame at 0:04, then I'm a robot made by Ponies!
ReplyDelete@pluckyninjadarn, was too good to be true, o well, lets find the next thing we can jump on =D
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeleteWait, how did I miss Rainbow Dash kissing Applejack? Subtle, very subtle.
@RBDash
ReplyDeleteSure looks like an electric damn to me. And the damn doesn't need to power the whole city because Ponyville has so few electric gizmos. Also I don't think you need isolation towers on a water purification plant :P
I thought this episode was pretty good. Probably in my top ten. I cant understand how some people don't like it but hey that there opinion.
ReplyDelete@Wierdplatformer
ReplyDeleteWow, I got foaled. I just saw the original footage, well done.
I am not sure if anypony ready these threads long after they have been posted, but I have no where else to put this.
ReplyDeleteThe Appledash photo scene - I have a comment for each side of the 'did they didn't they'.
1. When I saw the livestream, the scene made me laugh because it did seem to be adding fuel to the fire. I am not talking about any edited version here, but RD did look like after several hug poses she waas heading in for a kiss, albeit on on AJ's cheek not her muzzle. Also AJ's reaction was the same one little kids give when being kissed by Great Auntie, that look of disgust and embarrassment about mushy stuff. So that's the arguments for canon. shipping.
HOWEVER
2. Arguement against shipping... and bare with me on this one.. I think it's another David Bowie reference. There's a well known picutre that was published in the 1970s of David Bowie talking to Lou Reed and because the music in the club was so loud they had to lean in to talk to each other to be heard. However the angle the photo was taken made it look like they were about to kiss, almost identical to the spoofed pony video with RD's coming out magazine article. Bowie's picture made it into the papers and caused an uproar when it was actually perfectly innocent.
In fact the film Velvet Goldmine uses the exact same photographic scene and magazine shot as the spoof video. Except in Velevet Goldmine they do manke the characters kiss.
As Diamond Dogs were a Bowie reference before, as was DisQord's Labyrinth, the RD photo shoot doesn't sound so far fetched...
And I'm gonna add to that... The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust by Bowie and Velvet Goldmine were both about famous people who began to believe their own hype which became their downfall and their fans left them...
ReplyDeleteSound familiar?
Aaand one more link... Velvet Goldmine.. Christian Bale was also a lead in that film... now make the link to Mare Do Well everypony.
