I know that's not the point of zombie... but I'm just so sick of sad end zombie. I like Zombieland style zombie. People make it to the end. It's sad to see what has happened, but the story is about making sure you and your friends survive, not how few are left. Even watching a named BG pony like Nurse Redheart get killed and turned in Cantering Death really bummed me out. To see AJ lying on the dirt with her brains blown out, and Twi, Sweetie Belle, Big Mac, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash all turned... with their closest friends pitted against them in a kill or be killed battle...
I can't stand those. This was such a happy drawfriend, and then that tore down my high spirits.
Neigh... The sadness has been doubled.
Somehow I didn't notice that 31 was zombies (or had Zim) until the comments pointed it out. I thought it was just awesome posing.

#31 - IMO this is how all zombie things should be. Having well-developed main characters pitted against their close friends and family really adds an extra layer of depth to the emotional response; if the zombies were all background characters the pic wouldn't be anywhere near as compelling as it is.

31 is an AMAZING picture. I'm impressed with it, but I am also really brought down by it, today Of. All. Days!
This pic popped up here on the drawfriend today, the very same day that Sisterhooves Social debuted. This episode was a bonding episode between Sweetie Belle and her sister Rarity, and between Applebloom and Applejack. Of course Pic 31 has Applebloom losing her whole family, with AJ's brains splattered right in front of her once innocent eyes, and Sweetie Bell is a ghastly, murderous, rage driven empty shell, advancing on Rarity like the "unsister" she will now and forever be.
THAT made this pic a double barreled shotgun blast to the heart.
I don't disapprove of Saucy or Grimdark, but considering that Saucy is commonly link hidden, maybe it makes sense to do similar with Grimdark or gory. Fics have tags to notify viewers what they are about to delve into. A drawfriend is a stream of pics and dawww, and hnggggg, and cute, and beauti... OH MY GOD WHAT THE HAY!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!

might be high time to standardize on Gory/Grimdark/Saucy links in the drawfriends. I'll still eventually click them all, but I might want to hold off clicking one till the next day, maybe when my mood is more attuned to something sad. Other people are not appreciative of it at all, so consideration for them might be wise.

Anyway, I'm not certain that grimdark/gory images will enhance the reputations of bronies or this site, though they're more likely to bring in new fans than saucy images. Even so, I don't think hiding such images with a link will keep people who want to see such images from finding them; they might even make it easier to find them. ;)
And to be honest, #31, while a well-done drawing, isn't even in my top 5 images of the night in terms of provoking a reaction; those would be #6 first and foremost, as well as #2, #11, #22, and #35. And the main things in #31 that provoke a reaction from me are the Muffin Cannon and the Pinkie Cannon; the rest is a well-done but standard grimdark zombie pic. Granted, I'm in the minority in my lack of reaction to that particular drawing, if not all alone. (What can I say? I'm weird.)

Anyway, the horror images showed me that bronies aren't a bunch of wimps in their rooms playing with little pony toys about fucking tea parties and yknow what I mean. These guys are still 20 year old MEN!
And ya, zombies aren't scary. But the fact that their friends... their family are dead. Especially Applebloom. Both Applejack and Big Mac are monsters. Fucking tragic, man... brutal... I feel REALLY bad for Applebloom and Rarity.

ReplyDeleteI can understand that; I figured that part out through other means, but if grimdark stuff brings more fans like you in, that's fine with me.
As for Zim, the artist mentioned that he initially wanted to do a different Halloween picture with Zim in the background; when he switched to drawing this spoof of the Sega Sonic Zombies image, he decided to keep Zim around anyway. So basically, Zim's there for no other reason than the artist wanted to stick him in the pic.

ReplyDelete#28 sorta gave me an idea. The background ponies got different names and somewhat different looks, but there are enough differences. Nothing says we can't make them twins or something, that would explain anyway a few of the clones.
