I cannot begin to express how glad I am that bronies not only haven't let Sisterhooves Social kill the Derpy/Dinky fanon, but also have let it somehow become even more unbelievably sweet and wonderful than it already was.
#1: Please, can we give Trollestia/Tyrant Celestia/Jealous Celestia a rest, and only drag her out when we have a truly original joke to make?
#2: While I find the idea cute, I've never been able to accept "Dr. Whooves" in my headcanon. Still, that's an utterly charming comic, and I love the ending.
Actually, given that we saw Derpy in Twilight's flashback in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles", and then looking exactly the same ~10 years later in "Sonic Rainboom" where she participated in the Best Young Fliers competition, the only way to explain that and stay 100% faithful to what's been shown in the series is time travel. So maybe that is Dr. Whooves after all...
I'm always impressed that Doctor Who/Whooves fans (and really, I expect they're the same people) are so damn good at writing stories with the exact same sort of angst/drama as the actual show. Sometimes, it's better than the show's (end of season four, I'm looking at you)!
Anyways, good job on that one, and the first was fun.
I'm curious... are there any moments in Season 1 where Derpy and Sparkler are seen together? It'd be funny if it turned out that they do spend quite a bit amount of time in the show.
So is number two a permanent fixture in our fandom now. I hope so the idea of Doctor Whooves and Derpy as Dinky and Sparkler's parents is an awesome one.
#1 Oh nooooooo! Not again! XD That Luna face in the third panel... awwwwwwwwww. So darn cute and sad. How could you banish that? :'( Inb4 such and such way. lol
#2 Eh, I'm sorry but I just don't consider "Sparkler" as part of the Derpy "family" I guess. Just doesn't blend well to me. This is fanon as far as I'm concerned still. But it was an adorable comic.
I've always felt that either Pokey or the pony painter was Derpy's husband (being a similar colored unicorn to Dinky). I still liked the comic though, and just as our fan base has grown like crazy through the months, I don't see why our fanon pony families can't grow some either (I'm honestly more shocked that Berry Punch has a sister who's the same age as her daughter Ruby Pinch, to be honest).
@Octavia Leaving aside the question of how to reconcile it with the show's canon (or even if I'd care to), I'm a bit conflicted about Sparkler myself. On the one hand, having her as Derpy's older daughter makes the family a little more crowded and a little more complicated; on the other hand, there's already been several drawings and comics that exploit such a relationship to good effect, like #2 in this post. I'm not ready to commit to Sparkler being Derpy's daughter as my primary headcanon yet, but even if I never do, I'll still enjoy the fanworks such a relationship generates. Just the same as I enjoy fanworks showing Derpy as a single mare on her own, or rooming with Carrot Top. :)
Stuff like #2 is why I love the hell out of this fandom. It's also why I'm glad my headcanon is flexible- I don't consider Sparkler Derpy's daughter, but I don't mind seeing her as such and it's adorable.
I've seen good arguments that Dinky doesn't have a sister and Sparkler was a stand-in, like Applejack was allowed to sub in with Sweetie Belle (to start with at least).
Not bad comics, even if the "Trollestia/Tyrant Celestia" bits are getting kinda overdone. I don't think she is tyrant personally, but some people are taking these parodies to seriously, and thinking she is.
It's kinda hard for me to buy that pink unicorn as Derpy's daughter (just because she's Dinky's sister now apparently) as canon/fanon personally. But that's just me, I suppose.
I AM PERFECTLY SATISFIED WITH THE FANON EXPLANATION IN #2. I mean, there were already jokes about Derpy being ageless when she appeared in flashback looking the same.
@True Order Well, I just learned this myself, but apparently Sparkler is named that way cause of a previous gen pony had that name (who Rarity was partly based on). So it's not just fans picking a random name.
TWIIIIIILIIIIIIIGHHHHHHT!!! SAAAAAAAAVEEEEEE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Purify my sis with the elements... CRAP SHE LOCKED THEM AWAY!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I like Derpy being the doctor's assistant in all but i just can't see the doctor ever settling down with anyone really. Now as for Sparkle being dinky's sister i really generally dislike the idea.I know i ain't the only one who has considered the possibility that sweetie belle wasn't the only one to use the one day rule borrowing someones sister to compete in the event.
Because random combinations of ponies being related isn't appealing to me. I don't buy into any of the fanon shit, anyway. This isn't a knock on anyone that does, if that's your thing then fine. I just think it's... to put it more mildly, silly.
@Overlong Analysis Cobalt "Sometimes, it's better than the show's (end of season four, I'm looking at you)!"
I haven't read any Doctor Whooves fanfics yet myself, though I can't say I'm surprised. Russell T Davies really got over indulgent at points - particularly "Stolen Earth/Journey's End" and the last twenty minutes or so of "The End of Time," both of which come off like bad fan-fics.
And the Whooves family strip was adorable, which is no mean feat considering the sheer amount of crack that must be involved in explaining Dinky and Sparkler by way of Time Lord.
As far as my head-canon goes, Sparkler is actually just a really close cousin of Dinky, to the point where they're basically sisters despite not sharing biological parents. I just can't accept that Derpy is Sparkler's mother because of how close in age they look.
I have to hand it to this fandom, though--when we get an idea in our head, we can make it work whatever canon throws our way.
I was thinking Sparklers (like 4th of July Sparklers) would by Ditzy's Sister.
But #2 is my secondary Headcanon now. All that is needed is canon Doctor and Ditzy/Derpy hanging out together, or even Doctor (;D) (since they'll probably never give him a name.... O.O I see what I did there, without realizing it) hanging out with either Sparkler or Dinky as a semiways to confirm it.
The Doctor Whooves might be a pony version of the Doctor, like the Rose's human version of Tennant.
People who don't think that it fits well for Sparkler to be Dinky's older sister...
Rarity is Sweetie Bell's sister, but is old enough to live on her own. Perhaps Sparkler just lives on her own and occasionally stops by to watch Dinky when Ditzy is busy?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I found out my comments are always late. Oh well.

ReplyDeleteComics are awesome.
ReplyDelete@WizardShy You'd be surprised.
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated note, Welovefine finally has a Discord shirt available.

BRONIES THAT IS NOW HOW YOU DO A FANDOM
Second comic was so full of DAWWWWWWW
ReplyDeleteSomething tells me sparkler will be seeing a starring role in a lot more fanfiction from now on...
@NinesTempest
ReplyDeleteYes it is.
#2: No
ReplyDeleteI cannot begin to express how glad I am that bronies not only haven't let Sisterhooves Social kill the Derpy/Dinky fanon, but also have let it somehow become even more unbelievably sweet and wonderful than it already was.
ReplyDelete#2 brought out happy tears like crazy. :')
DAWWWWW that #2.
ReplyDeleteThere is no canon for background ponies. They can be whatever we want them to be.
ReplyDeleteF--K YEAH, HEAD CANON!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say something about Celestia, but Jamie Hyneman just said 'meethane'...

ReplyDeleteAnyways, good job on that one, and the first was fun.
@Vanishing Why not?
ReplyDelete#2 was adorable!
ReplyDeleteGive our fanon credit: it is adaptable beyond most conventional means. Names, families, whatever: we can make it work.
ReplyDeleteAs such, I happen to enjoy #2.
@Dusty the Royal Janitor
ReplyDeleteI quote Vanishing:
No.
awwwww 2nd one is full of d'aaaaaw all over the place :)
ReplyDeleteDerpy has access to the Doctor's psychic paper? Mind = blown.
ReplyDelete#1 Been done but most bring a chuckle to me, this one did.
ReplyDelete#2 Canon, dominates my view of shows so I really don't see what the big deal is.
So much Dawwwww #2 so much
ReplyDeleteMassive daw on the second comic
ReplyDeleteI'm curious... are there any moments in Season 1 where Derpy and Sparkler are seen together? It'd be funny if it turned out that they do spend quite a bit amount of time in the show.
ReplyDelete#1-Trollestia is going to troll.
ReplyDelete#2-So much canon...hnnnnng!
To answer Sparkler's question, maybe Derpy or the Doctor's current regeneration has unicorn genes recessively
ReplyDelete#1 lol
ReplyDelete#2 Dawww
@Kytseo
ReplyDeleteI think the idea, at least as presented, is that the Doctor's last regeneration was a unicorn.
Or not. Either way, I like this flavor of fanon more than the more abusive ones.
So is number two a permanent fixture in our fandom now. I hope so the idea of Doctor Whooves and Derpy as Dinky and Sparkler's parents is an awesome one.
ReplyDeleteI hope we embrace Sparkler more. I like her. And this Is a pony fandom are fanon deos not need to make sense
ReplyDelete#1 Oh nooooooo! Not again! XD That Luna face in the third panel... awwwwwwwwww. So darn cute and sad. How could you banish that? :'( Inb4 such and such way. lol

ReplyDeleteTia has the element of jealousy
ReplyDeleteDitzy has the best family ever
That Sparkler comic is adorable. It never ceases to amaze me how the fandom manages to subsume canon information into established storylines.

OH. MY. CELESTIA. O_O
ReplyDeleteI came close to tearing up at #2. So cute. So well done. I love it.
Also.
ReplyDelete42nd comment.
*grabs his towel*
#2 is cute. I've never watched Doctor Who, though, so I get it but probably not on the same level as I would if it was actually something I was into.
ReplyDeleteHey, you sass that hoopy MandoPony? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is.
ReplyDelete1. Banned to the moon
ReplyDelete2. The doo family includes the Doctor(that doesn't make sense),Derpy/Ditzy, Dinky, and Sparkler. Weird.
Stuff like #2 is why I love the hell out of this fandom. It's also why I'm glad my headcanon is flexible- I don't consider Sparkler Derpy's daughter, but I don't mind seeing her as such and it's adorable.

ReplyDeleteI'm not gonna lie. I'm not a fan of the name Sparkler, it's unoriginal and it's too similar to one of the mane six's names.
ReplyDeleteaw i really liked the last one
ReplyDeleteNot bad comics, even if the "Trollestia/Tyrant Celestia" bits are getting kinda overdone.

Comic #1
ReplyDeleteCelestia looks mroe distressed than angry...
Comic #2
Okay, I now fully support the Doctor Whooves/Derpy couple, since that comic is so adorable.
I AM PERFECTLY SATISFIED WITH THE FANON EXPLANATION IN #2. I mean, there were already jokes about Derpy being ageless when she appeared in flashback looking the same.
ReplyDeletePlus it's a real cute comic.
That second one is interesting. It totally shatters the canon, but I like it. Very well written and put together. Nicely done.
ReplyDelete@True Order

#1 Doooooh that's so sad.
ReplyDelete#2 And the second one made me happy. Yay Derpy family.
TWIIIIIILIIIIIIIGHHHHHHT!!!

#1 Oh come now I wouldn't banish Luna for having a fan. Besides if I were that mean why would I banish Luna? common sense says i'd banish Pip.
ReplyDelete#2 Very full of D'aww, I quite like this explanation.
I think it's just that Ditzy doesn't seem old enough, which this takes care of.
ReplyDeleteAlso... Dinky x Pipsqueak.
Family in child's eyes... Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
ReplyDeleteI found out my comments are always late. Oh well.
Man, the Hooves family is confusingly wierd... though I wouldn't have it any other way :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, does that make her Sparkler Hooves? And possibly River Song?
#2 makes me just go "Awwwwwwww" so much, it hurts.
ReplyDelete#2 is a very good mix of canon AND fanon.
ReplyDeleteThis pleases me.
Oh god thats so sad
ReplyDeleteLol I loved it!
ReplyDelete1. Poor Luna!
ReplyDelete2. This makes sense. As is tradition, unless it is absolute, the fans will make an explaination for everything.
