We used to call her Bright Eyes pretty consistently. I wonder why that died off? It was always kind of neat. Anyway, this comic sets out to explain the origin of Bright Eyes in the most epic way possible!
I've never heard of the term Bright Eyes for Derpy before (only been a brony for about two months). But somehow, her being an intelligent creature from a thousand years ago makes so much sense.
I was wondering where I got the name "Bright Eyes" for her in my story. To be fair, it is less insulting than "Derpy" or "Ditzy" if you want her to be a character and not a punching bag.
The muffin queen is glorious, the muffin queen is grand. Why the muffin queen is almost more then I can stand! Also she has laser vision and can fire depth charge muffins from her wing pits.
I've always liked the name Derpy more than Bright Eyes myself honestly. I love her perceived Derpy nature and it just seems to fit. Even if a bit obvious a name.
@Doctor Valor I think the name "Bright Eyes" came around a few months after the first airing of the show. Unfortunately, I don't know the whole origin story of that name because I wasn't a fan until the summer of 2011.
Isn't "Bright Eyes" a prior G(something) pony? I seriously doubt a recycled pony can even begin to compare with the somehow-immortal time-traveling mental-case mail-mare space-cadet supermom the fanon has weaved.

ReplyDeleteIf only that worked. Then I would have glowing eyes too!
ReplyDelete"Bright Eyes" seems like too serious of a name for a character who exists primarily to be a source of comic relief (at least in season 2).
ReplyDeletePlus "Derpy Hooves" just sounds funnier to me.

ReplyDeleteEating a bug gets you glowing eyes.
ReplyDeleteWait so can anyone one explain why she was originally called that? Or was it just because she has bright yellow eyes?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't this result in a "Bright Stomach" or "Bright Pelvic Splanchnic Ganglion"?
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, truly powerful. I shed many manly tears upon learning the true origin of Bright Eyes

All I can think of with glowing eyes is: "Kree, Jaffa!"
