Hold up, I think there is a serious spelling error here. That cutie mark does not belong to anypony named LULAMOON. This is idenitity theft of the HIGHEST CALIBER. Trixie is NOT pleased.
Anyway, someone sent me all 24 of the 3rd blindbag set that was leaked on Taobao a while back. They are apparently very much real. It seems to be focusing on sparkly and metallic (Special Edition) ponies this time around, with a few colts and classics thrown in for good measure.
Of the mix, we have Colgate (Minuette), Blues, (Royal Riff), and Caramel (Chance-a-Lot) for background ponies.
But Trixie... why?

Since when have toy names ever made sense or a lick of difference?
ReplyDeleteTwilight Velvet... ok
ReplyDeleteTWILIGHT ALL THE PONIES!
ReplyDeleteLet the arguments begin.
ReplyDeleteWe need to fix this, before it's too late and Lulamoon becomes Trixie's real name!
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, what were they thinking?
Basically, ponies on LSD edition uh?
ReplyDeleteTwilight Velvet sounds like either a cigarette or a toilet roll brand to me >_>
ReplyDeleteThough points for both Royal Riff and Sassaflash being awesome sounding yet wholly silly names.
Pinkie Pie.....special edition?
ReplyDeletePlease, PLEASE don't be a G-whatever pony....
NOOO! NOT THE GREAT-AND-POWERFUL-ONE!
ReplyDelete;A;
"Crimson Gala" is a pretty badass name.
ReplyDeleteMost of them are iffy, but Rarity Special Edition? Hell yes!
ReplyDeleteTwilight Sky seems like a pretty cool guy. Wonder where he's from.
ReplyDeleteokay, i think we really need to just agree, as a community, to ignore the blindbag names as canon. they just... don't work.
ReplyDeletei will admit, though, 'sassaflash' is an awesome pegasus name.
Look on the bright side. With that clearly misnamed Trixie, it's not much of a stretch to keep calling the background ponies by their fan names. Toy names don't hold water anymore.
ReplyDeleteso many twilights?
ReplyDeleteWe have some Octavia ship-mates now
ReplyDeleteGoodbye Colgate, hello Minuette.
ReplyDeleteDAT Rarity and Applejack special editions!!!! Me gusta!
ReplyDeleteI fucking HATE Hasbro.
ReplyDeleteLove & Tolerance can't be applied here.
I refuse to believe that's Caramel. That's not Caramel. THAT CANNOT BE CARAMEL! D:
ReplyDeletei would hate to have a name like shoeshine......
ReplyDeleteBut Caramel was their idea...
ReplyDeleteMinuette is a pretty name, though.
The great and powerful Trixie Lulamoon! She has a Favourite Star!
ReplyDeleteAlso seems like a Time-Lord has finally entered the Blind Bags. Can't say I recognise this one though.
At least the Special editions look like Bad-Ass Metal versions of them.
ReplyDeleteI've looked through these new ponies and all I can think is "meh."
ReplyDelete@Vunk what's your beef bro?
ReplyDeleteYeah... whole lotta Twilight goin' on.
ReplyDeleteMaybe ponies started naming their foals in honor of her after she saved Equestria a couple of times?
Well I guess the toy names can - pardon my Equestrian - go BUCK themselves now. When not even the toymakers can get it right, fanon beats canon.
ReplyDeleteSo, I've seen tons of stuff on these grab-bag ponies. But where to be getting them? Anypony?
ReplyDelete"Mosely Orange"
ReplyDeleteI SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
INB4 DRAMA STORM over their names AGAIN
ReplyDeleteNumber 22, Twilight Velvet, you aren't fooling anyone I know it's Twilight Sparkle in disguise.
ReplyDeleteMinnute, is that supposed to be Colgate?
ReplyDeleteNo, never ever.
And I know Trixie has multiple personalities but cmon.
I guess Hasbro mistakenly thought Trixie was a fan name even though it's her name in the show. I blame Seth for this since his constant touting of the Great and Powerful Trixie has turned her into a sort of superstar.
ReplyDeleteWell that's disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI demand compensation by giving Trixie her own unique mold.
Sassaflash is an awesome name.
ReplyDeleteIsn't twilight velvet, Twilight's mom
ReplyDeleteguess we finally have a name for her
Somepony should petition for show-accurate toys... Maybe if Hasbro could see that we're interested in well-made (and well-named) toys, they'd actually produce them.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone needs further proof that toy names mean squat, this is it. Trixie and Caramel are explicitly named in-show (Lyra too, but that's ambiguous as to who was actually called that), yet here they are with funky names.
ReplyDelete@Killsteal_Wolf Romana, the Fourth Doctor's companion.
ReplyDeleteSo...much...vector...GAH
ReplyDeleteI want that special edition Rarity
ReplyDeleteShoeshine... wow. That must suck having to be fated to do nothing but shine shoes until you turn to dust.
ReplyDeleteThose Ponies are shiny. Very very shiny.
And this is why the toys have no relevance to the show!
ReplyDeleteThen the guys from the MLP Wiki used these names.
ReplyDeleteAnd there was no rejoicing.
I see Big Macintosh's identical cousin from the Orange family showed up.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, I'm now convinced that they have a random name and descriptive sentence generator at work here. In fact... Hey, any Pearl script gurus out there want to bang a random blindbag pony name and description generator together? That might be worth a laugh. Hell, just take the existing vectors for the characters and give them random coloring and cutie marks to seal the deal.
And did Sassaflash up there steal Firefly's cutie mark from the past?
#22 is Mrs. Sparkle! A pony parent got a toy~!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBlind bags are foreign right? Those names mean nothing.
ReplyDeleteActually Royal Riff is a bad ass name, Also Liquid metal applejack and Rarity.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Municipal Engines
ReplyDeleteI refuse to go to that site ever since they started doing that -.-.....
No one's mentioned Rainbow Dash's cutie mark yet?
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I'll be ignoring most of these names, but Sassaflash and Amethyst Star are awesome and should be used somehow.
Minuette: is always on time!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why...
Shoeshine?
ReplyDeleteBAHAHAHAHA!
These guys are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel for these names.
What's her special talent? Shining your horseshoes for dimes and nickles?
Come on Hasbro...I mean come on...
@~pkThunder
ReplyDeleteIf Lulamoon were my name, I'd use a stage name too.
(Especially since I'm a male, but you know what I mean.)
Trixie's cutie mark is a solid star wand with a trail of magickal fairy dust. Lulamoon's cutie mark is a star wand with a hole in the center next to a crescent moon. Two different marks, two different ponies, end of derpscussion.
ReplyDeleteRECOLOR ALL THE PONIES!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Lulamoon is Trixies mom or something
ReplyDeleteOuch. How hard would it have been to call her trixie? Seriously.
ReplyDeleteHaha, Sassaflash and Shoeshine! Those are awesome! If they weren't sparkly I'd buy them.
I thoroughly areyoufuckingkiddingme.jpg at the other ponies also named Twilight. They'd really call them that after the mane character? Kinda dumb.
Huh, I kinda like the metallic look.
That is not Trixie. That is not Colgate. That is not Caramel. The only good thing about the trippy-ass style of this round is that it creates a fair bit of ambiguity as to who each one is supposed to be. Those are three different ponies who just happen to have the same cutie marks as some of our favorites ( a phenomenon which is not unprecedented I may add).
ReplyDeletewhy is fluttershy's picture a recolor of rainbow dash, i mean c'mon!
ReplyDeleteIs Sassaflash supposed to be the third Wonderbolt of the three we see most commonly that is as of yet unnamed? That cutie mark looks familiar, and I thought the unnamed Wonderbolt was lightning-themed.
ReplyDeleteIt's not Trixie, Luna Moon is a separate pony. Trixies' Cutie Mark is a Magic wand sprinkling pixie dust (From the MLP Wiki and confirmed on MLP hub page), not a crescent moon with a wand.
ReplyDeleteAnypony else think Fluttershy with RD's hair cut should be canon? I think it's adorable....
ReplyDeleteHasbro can't even follow THEIR OWN names now? Well, at least this proves that the names on the blindbags mean absolutely nothing.
ReplyDeleteEveryone DO keep in mind YOU are FREE to keep using their Fanon names.
ReplyDeleteI laugh at all the glorious denial. Minuette and Royal Riff are vastly superior names.
ReplyDeleteChance-a-lot is pretty lame though.
I'm at least glad they're acknowledging more minor characters (Twilight's mom, Trixie who is clearly using an alias to remain incognito after the ursa incident).
Maybe Chance-A-Lot is Creme Brulee's real name.
ReplyDeleteThey all look ridiculous... I like the actual colors more. This sparkly or metallic look just doesn't work... Not for me, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI personally somewhat believed at one time that "The Great and Powerful Trixie" could have been a mere stage name. It makes a lot of sense now.
ReplyDeleteTrixie may have had a harsh foalhood, and always hated her birth name, being Lulamoon. Yes, she could have easily changed it as she went into showbiz, moving her stage from town to town advertise herself as "The Great and Powerful Trixie" rather than average Lulamoon the Unicorn from some backwater place in Equestria.
It seems like one giant case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. Observe;
ReplyDelete1. The amrketing department OBVIOUSLY known about Bronies, we've seen that from Equestria Girls and the two billboards.
2. The shows creators know of us and slip in adult humour nad name background poonies on occasion.
3. Then we have the design department, whose apparent job it is to take EVERY note sent tot hme about things and pull a total Blueblood; ignoring the world around them to slog on through with their own world view, assuming that what they say is all the canon the world will ever need.
It's not the 70's and 80's anymore. You cannot slip by with re-used molds and recolours that would be laughed off deviantart. Effort, Co-operation and quality are all we and any fan, young or old would ask for. My little cousin is in the age demographic for this show (About 7), she has Downes Syndrome and even SHE can tell the difference ebtween a fan-drawn doodle of fluttershy and the blindbag card recolour of Rainbow Dash.
Appologies for this massive rant/text dump. However I beleive this is something similar to how we all feel. Until Hasbro's work takes a step up, I say we continue using the fanon names, because obviously these guys have no idea what canon THEY want to follow.
TRIXIE IS HER STAGE NAME, okay?
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to accept something on the lines of "No, Trixie's cutiemark is inverted to that one. Not the same pony" or anything like that. However, what makes NO sense to me is why they would rename Caramel. He was named in Winter Wrap Up, no? Legally, they didn't have to change the name.
ReplyDeleteThere for, I propose an alternative motive for the hub renaming of background ponies: To mess with bronies.
well we have definitive proof the toy department is just wrong with everyone. If they can't get a named character right, they can't get the fanon characters right.
ReplyDelete... Though Lyra Heartstrings still sounds right.
Colgate Minuette, not so much.
If anything this 'Lulamoon' goes to show that the canon pony names in the show and what they name any toy pony other than the mane 6 are in no way related.
ReplyDeleteThese aren't the same ponies. Chance-a-lot is grown up looking version of Caramel that we see in the title sequence.
ReplyDeleteCaramel, Trixie, etc. are the canon names. These are just extra ponies.
@Dawnmist
ReplyDeleteIt's not. The cutie mark is backwards c:
Also, I'm thinking Minuette for Doctor Whooves' daughter (/clone thing) AKA Jenny pony, what do we think?
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenny_(Doctor_Who)
A Twilight Sparkle that actually sparkles?
ReplyDeleteI can dig it.
Seth you got the shit trolled out of you not only did they get the name wrong, they used rarity's model
ReplyDeletePeople people, the toys and the show are run by different people. In even G1 there were different show names and toy names. This is far from a new thing. Hell, in G1 they couldn't even always stay consistent with colors and names within the show itself. Berry Green is the lamest name in the bunch that's for sure. But I second the idea of a random recolor and name generator for kicks and giggles. Wonder if some of these will be sold in a 12 pack in the US at any point.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to point something out: Twilight Sky actually is kinda cool.
ReplyDeleteAlso: lets just say that from now on, these are their legal names, and fandom names are the nicknames they like to go by.
I MUST HAVE THEM ALL
ReplyDeleteI so want these but being an Australian Brony, we Brony's from the land downuder miss out on a lot of pony stuff seeing as we haven't gotten the Series 2 Blind Bag pony's
ReplyDelete*goes off with head lower to cry*
HA! Score one for Lyra, et al! Proof that the toys are not canon. Sure, it'll probably boil down to "Well, show canon > toy canon, but still canon", but still. I had tried to stay neutral during the previous Great Name Wars, but I think Lulamoon (seriously. wat.) proves the toys don't reflect true canon and can't be considered as such.
ReplyDeleteI still think Show and fannon trumps Toy department for the sack of the models look nothing like the in show counterparts. I don't think Fluttershy looks anything like Rainbow Dash to begin with.
ReplyDeleteAnd all these recolor ponies are jsut recolors of semi acurate copys of the mane 6.
I really like her ... name?
ReplyDeleteWe need Hasbro cards with the wrong name for every character.
Twilight can be Starshine Twinkle.
Derpy can be Bubbleshine.
I was gonna call Colgate Snow Days. But Minuette isn't cool. Not cool at all.
I guess with a name like LunaMoon, there's really no wonder she adopted the name Trixie. :P
ReplyDeleteBut really, why rename her? Or for that matter, Caramel? They're named in-show, what's the point?
Although I kinda like Twilight Sky. Not a very original name, but the design is cool.
Oh well, just goes to show that the toy department and show are run by completely different people. I'm just gonna stop caring at this point.
This is now my argument for anyone who smugly rejects the fan-names. Hasbroken's just pulling random names out of their ass. They obviously have no correlation to the show.
ReplyDeleteI laugh at people bemoaning that their fan names weren't used in official products. As far as the whole Trixie/Lulamoon thing. Just think of it as another pony with the same cuite mark, there's plenty of those. Or hell think of "Trixie" as a stage name. Anyway the way I see it is names in the show > hasbro toy names > fanon names
ReplyDeleteI will not make an argument about names. On another note, those are some DANG shiny ponies.
ReplyDelete*sigh* Time for me to earn more backlashes from fans on the wiki...
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm with those who say these ponies, because they're all translucent and sparkly, are different enough from the show ponies that there's no reason to assume these are canon names for anyone who's appeared on the show. Having said that, I always thought Colgate and Romana were just joke names, and I'd certainly be willing to consider another name for her. Not Minuette, though; that one needs to be saved for a musician pony.
ReplyDelete@Wicked Wonderland
ReplyDeleteSince when did fan names have much correlation to the show? "Derpy" is a very rare exception.
I really like Electric Sky and Sassaflash. Wouldn't mind having then show up as background ponies in a future episode.
ReplyDeleteAnd THIS my friends, Is why mlpwiki needs to stop acting like the blind bag characters and the background characters of the show are the same thing.
ReplyDeleteso, this proves that the toy names aren't canon.
ReplyDeletewhy? caramel's name is from the show, so if they got that wrong, then that means they got everypony else wrong.
I think this just proves that the makers of these toys are just trying to screw with us. And I mean us, the Bronies, specifically. The show's makers have gone along with us for a while, as evidenced by Ditzy's now standard derp eyes. But the people who make these are just being mean.
ReplyDeleteNot taking the names we make up? Sure, canon takes presidence over fanon. Some of the names were nice enough to be either very close or last names to the ones we know.
All the molds are based on the mane six? I can understand that. It's a cost cutting measure and not every toy needs to be distinct. It's not like trading cards where the production is exactly the same no matter what the end result looks like.
All of the matching cards being recolors of the mane six? Okay, that's kind of lazy, but still kind of okay. They could get an artist to redraw each of the new ponies here, but they wouldn't look like their corresponding toys. They could at least be posed differently, even if they look very similar.
Renaming characters from the show? Now that's just being douchey. Why? Why would they do that? Did no one think that was a bad idea? Does no one check continuity? It just boggles the mind.
Like I said last time this happened: The show has it's own continuity, and the toys have theirs. If you try to make them fit together, you'll just get a headache.
Blues isn't Royal riff. remember the last blindbag set? his name is noteworthy.
ReplyDeleteYet bronies STILL make better toys than Hasbro does.
ReplyDeleteAnyone want to gather together video clips of all the named background ponies, pare them up with their toy counterparts, and send it to hasbro? Because They are clearly not paying any attention to the show.
ReplyDeleteSo Twilight's mom is named Twilight Velvet?
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought Blues' new name was Noteworthy!
So calling Lyra 'Heartstrings' makes as much sense as calling Trixie 'Lulamoon'.
ReplyDeleteProblem solved.
>Electric Sky
ReplyDelete>Unicorn
What?
Every comment that will be posted in a nutshell:
ReplyDeleteFuck Habsro.
@Mason
ReplyDeleteWe are not acting. And why is that? Because it doesn't agree with your fan-names?
@Muthesquirrel
ReplyDeleteOf course; it's the difference between making something as a labor of love, and making lots and lots of the same thing while trying to make a profit in a cutthroat market.
@Suroguner
Unless you want to say that Lulamoon and Chance-a-Lot are supposed to represent The Great and Powerful Trixie and Caramel, which I think is a matter of personal opinion, are there any other cases of Hasbro giving a different name to a show-named pony?
That silver special edition Rarity looks like one of those street performance guys who dress like robots. At least that's what came to my mind when I saw it. lol
ReplyDeleteDon't tell me people are going to take these knockoff toy names as canon now... I hope not, that'd be pretty silly.
Velvet can be Twilight's mom's maiden name.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely no fucking idea where Lulamoon came from nor what to do with it.
Rarity's last name is now Special Edition.
Amethyst Star could honestly pass as Rarity's mother.
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteBecause there's enough evidence now to show that Blind Bag names don't matter. They renamed Trixie to Lulamoon, and even if they got the cutie mark wrong (and therefore it's a different pony), that means Carrot Top and Golden Harvest can now be considered different ponies since they have similiar situations.
Also, Caramel already has a name so he can't be Chance-A-Lot. And if your argument is that the toy uses a different mold, then that means ponies that look the same with different molds aren't necessarily the same mold.
Also, Blues's two toynames aren't even consistent. That sort of speaks for itself.
@frostedWarlock
ReplyDeletefrig I mean *aren't necessarily the same pony
I want that Sparkle Dash. <3
ReplyDeleteI like how, even though Caramel was CALLED Carmel in the show, his name is now something different. I think it's clear now that they're pulling names out of their asses. Overall I don't particularly care. Obviously the toy names are completely irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Twilight Velvet looks like Twi's mom. Also also, that's not Blues/Noteworthy. Blues/Noteworthy has a barred note as his cutie mark. Royal Riff here has two treble clefs, and he's clearly more purply than Blues... I mean, Noteworthy.
And thus we prove that the blind bag names are meaningless, that Jayson Thiessen is trustworthy when he says that the toy department is completely separate from the show crew and isn't involved at all with actual official show business, that hasbro is a silly filly, and that the people over at MLP wiki might as well pull their heads out of their asses now, swallow their pride, and admit that they were wrong the whole time.
ReplyDeleteElectric Sky? THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ELECTRICITY IN EQUESTRIA! Light bulb cutie mark? SERIOUSLY? Light bulbs don't exist in Equestria! Madness! Ridiculosity. Whatever. I don't even care. The toy people clearly have no clue what they're doing.
ReplyDeleteHilariously, we have a female Doctor Whooves in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afEQzEizgSY , a radio play called Crossed Wires! Totally getting Minuette, as I play both the female Doctor and Twilight Sparkle ;)
ReplyDelete@Frenchi
ReplyDeleteSETH, STOP POSTING BLINDBAGS. All they're doing is causing dissent and giving ammo to the people who don't understand that fanon is what makes a fandom, who think fans should do nothing but talk about what's canon.
We don't need these dopplegangers taking away from what we've built here. :|
Why.... WHY IS TRIXIE NOT TRIXIE? And Caramel not Caramel? Weren't those their Actual Cannon names?
ReplyDeleteLulamoon? XD Can we please stop taking the blindbag names as canon now?
ReplyDelete@jodyjm13
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Daisy had a different blind bag name as well.
Royal Riff?
ReplyDeleteWasn't he called "Noteworthy" the last time they made a toy based on him?
@Frenchi
ReplyDeleteSure they do! Remember episode 25 when Pinkie interrogates Spike? That was totally an electric lamp... with a lightbulb.
They got Twi's mom's name wrong.
ReplyDeleteShe's not twilight anything.
Actually, now that I think about it, I'm glad these came out. Because now that they got Trixie wrong, we can all move on from that idiotic bullshit we went through with "Heartstrings, Berryshine, and Golden Harvest."
ReplyDeleteWe know the blind bags are wrong, whatever their reasons for being wrong and they don't matter anymore, so we can all carry on as we were and stop making a fuss about it.
It's funny how many people think everything has to be binary, as in toys are either 100% right or 100% wrong.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I wonder how badly the wiki is faring now that we have solid evidence that the blind bags aren't worth a piece of crap?
ReplyDeleteAre the admins STILL ignoring every piece of evidence that the fans bring up? Or are they finally swallowing their pride and admitting that maybe they shouldn't have changed it to fit hasbro's incompetent toy department in the first place? That since the show crew has used the ponies' names that we've given them in the past and obviously know the show inside and out, and that the toy department obviously has no idea what they're doing.... that they should have placed the show crew before hasbro's toys.
I'm just saying. Lulamoon. Chance-a-lot. Figure it out, boys. It ain't hard.
lol 5 stars because of seth got upset about trixie doll XD
ReplyDelete@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteNever said the fannames were official.
But the blind bags characters are most certainly not the same as the bg characters of the show, regardless of similar cutie mark, colour scheme, etc. Especially since they don't use the same designs, some even arent the same type of pony.
ok, if the blindbags make mistakes like that they are not canon for me and nopony can tell me that lyra is called heartstrings
ReplyDeletei have nothing against lyra heartstrings though
OF ALL THINGS,
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS
THE
WORST
THING
POSSIBLE!
LOL recolors,terrible names and crushed dreams...
Ch-ch-Chance-a-lot?! Lulamoon?! NOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteHasbro... why?! Don't you love us?!
Toys names can be used, if they aren't stupid (Lulamoon...looking at you) for ponies that look sort-of similar and don't have prominent fandom names. Otherwise, just leave it alone.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? I tried to tolerate all the bullshit Hasbro shove upon us, but they just don't listen and this has gone too far. F#ck you Hasbro.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why toys have no relation to the show.
ReplyDelete@Vedinamel
ReplyDeleteWhy should they? They've been colossal dicks to most of the users for weeks now. A little karma might do them some good...
Why can't we just consider these different ponies than the BG ones? The fanon remains intact and the fanfic writers have more characters to play with. I think Minuette is cool, a new, sparkly, Time Lord mare.
ReplyDeleteFUCK, first Noteworthy, Now this Royal Riff bullshit? You know what I say, I say neither of them are blues AT ALL.
ReplyDelete@jodyjm13
ReplyDeleteHahaha, you just OWNED Hasbro!
The special edition ponies:
ReplyDeleteMetal Rarity
Goldfinger Applejack
Mary Kay Pinkie Pie
Maybe Trixie is just a stage name... perhaps our fanon of Trixie being Luna's apprentice is actually true, and Hasbro is telling us something...
ReplyDelete@frostedWarlock
ReplyDeleteShow takes precedence over Hasbro, meaning Trixie is more official than Lulamoon, so that destroys your first argument.
If you notice on the list of ponies on the wiki, Caramel has not been changed. However, Seth is wrong, as Chance-A-Lot is actually Creme Brulee, so that destroys your second argument.
Your third argument, we have not been discussing Blues two names. Besides, Royal Riff has two Treble clefs, which are not similar to Noteworthy's.
@MizuTakishima
ReplyDeleteNot Quite the most human... remember Pony Joe?
@Mason
ReplyDelete"But the blind bags characters are most certainly not the same as the bg characters of the show, regardless of similar cutie mark, colour scheme, etc."
... So what does make characters the same?
@frostedWarlock
ReplyDeleteSo there's all this debate going on and I'm just going to go up to you and say I'M A FAN OF YOUR WORKS!!!
I love your art style :D
@Pants-on-Head Man
ReplyDelete"Treat others the way you want to be treated", as I always say. And we have not been dicks (at least we haven't been trying).
Okay, they're just fucking with us now...
ReplyDelete@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteLook, you know, possibly the biggest argument here is precedence of information. Your order is Show > Merchandise > Crew > Fans. But WHY is that your order? I don't think I've ever seen an explanation for why you choose that order over Show > CREW > Merchandise > Fans beyond "it's our policy," which is like a parent saying "Because I said so!" when a child asks why he can't go out to play with his friend.
So can you explain the reason behind this order? Is it just because the crew has used the names Lyra and Carrot Top and you don't want to admit you might have made a mistake? Or do you actually have a LOGICAL reason why the toy department, even in the wake of "Lulamoon," is a more trustworthy source than the show's crew, who know the ins and outs of the show and work on it day and night?
@Rainbow Smash
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should take a look at my blog before you keep talking crap about the admins, since your so-called evidence has baffled us:
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Shadowdemon137/Heartstrings_change
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteTell that to throwawaytv who just outright called me insane one time.
@Pants-on-Head Man
ReplyDeleteThrowawaytv has had attitude problems in the past, so I apologize on his behalf. But please don't base the actions and attitudes of one person for a whole community. I have been trying my best to quell these arguments without much argument.
So is Shadowdemon the OCD guy who retagged all the ponibooru pictures of Lyra with "heartstrings?"
ReplyDelete@Rainbow Smash
ReplyDeletehttp://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Shadowdemon137/Heartstrings_change
Pretty much what I have been directing people to on the wiki since three days after the Heartstrings incident. Maybe you'll learn something.
I really don't get it. Trixie was her name in CANON. I understand that they can't use the fanon names but come on! Do the people in the marketing department actually talk to the writers of the show? DO THEY EVEN WATCH THE SHOW? (Answers to rhetorical questions: Probably not, apparently not).
ReplyDeleteOf course, you could always bring out the "sister" theory or the "Trixie Lulamoon" theory or the "she insisted that 'The Great and Powerful' be added before Trixie and it wouldn't fit" theory.
@Xalgoz
ReplyDeleteNope, but thanks for being stereotypical.
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteYeah, I see it. The one from Nayaki, right?
May I offer a rebuttal?
If Hasbro has the final say in anything, then technically Lulamoon is the "proper" name simply because they (Hasbro) have the power to go back, force the show crew to change the name, and make Trixie referred to as "Lulamoon" in any and all subsequent reruns of episode 6 and any reappearances she makes. Sounds crazy right? That's the implication this makes. And if this is the case, your order Show > Hasbro > Crew > Fans needs to be changed to HASBRO > Show > Crew > Fans.
The fact is, while Hasbro does have this power, they don't use it. They've basically proven here that they don't care. They don't care about names or the show or the names or the crew or the fans beyond the simple question "are we making money?" Now I ask you again... is a source like this more trustworthy than a crew who puts tender loving care, day in and day out, to make this show?
Or you could just ignore the random-ass toy names.
ReplyDelete@Nameless
ReplyDeleteYeah, I do like that one. It's delightfully punny, and it's not ripped off from a brand of toothpaste.
@Colt Classic
ReplyDeleteS/HE GOT BEEF.
Also, if we make the assumption that there is no communication between the show's writers and the toymakers, then I think we can begin to at least seriously question the canonical nature of these "blind bag" ponies. If there are outright CONTRADICTIONS (e.g. Trixie) between the toys and the show, then the show should take precedence in canon. Therefore, all the "blind bag" descriptions have the potential to be overritten by the show, giving them only a small edge in canon over fan-names. When the names aren't mentioned in the show, what ultimately prevails isn't the obscure canon from lore (which, again, I don't even think these blind bags would even count as considering the lack of communication between the makers and the writers), but what is more well known.
ReplyDeletetl;dr: If people call Heartstrings "Lyra" enough and it's not mentioned in the show that her name is "Heartstrings," her name will be "Lyra" to all but the purists and the trolls.
@Rainbow Smash
ReplyDeleteUntil then, she's Trixie, and Lulamoon is the toy. Nothing changes.
Also, what is this argument about? Really? Is it about crew vs Hasbro (which it isn't, since the only names Jayson considers official are Derpy and Doctor Whooves), or is it Fanon vs Hasbro (where Hasbro is totally more official than fanon, since the fanon has stereotyped Rainbow to be a lesbian, Big Mac to be a serial killer, and Pinkie Pie to be a homicidal maniac that makes cupcakes out of innocent little ponies)?
You choose.
Ya know what? I think this is actually great, because it pretty much proves that the toys are TOTALLY separate from the show. LunaMoon is obviously pretty laughable, as Trixie is quite obviously called Trixie in the show.
ReplyDeleteFace it, the toy department probably isn't really paying much attention to the show - they are just trying to come up with names for the toys that they think will sell better. I doubt they thought anyone would take that much interest in the names anyways.
Jayson himself said it: the toy department doesn't have anything to do with the Hub, so people really shouldn't take this so seriously. Lyra is and always will be Lyra to me, unless she is named something else IN THE SHOW. The dictator-like admins on the MLP:FiM Wiki need to see this I think. I swear, if they change Trixie to LunaMoon on the Wiki...
@Pants-on-Head Man
ReplyDeleteNah, just the head admin, Throwawaytv (we call him Throwy). Everyone on the wiki pretty much hates him; why do you think we put up a vote to strip him of his bureaucrat powers (the power to promote users to chat mods, admins, or bureaucrats). I'm a regular contributor, and have been for the past month, and have grown increasingly tired of his crap.
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteAccording to Hasbro, Rainbow Dash has butterfly wings and dresses in style, Applejack owns a truck, Spike is a quadroped, Fluttershy is a Rainbow Dash recolor, and Apple Bloom and Scootaloo have each other's names.
That argument goes two ways.
Those special editions...
ReplyDeleteA New Challenger Approaches: Metal Pinkie Pie!
Trixie is her stage name, Lulamoon is her real name. I shall write a short fic and officially make it fanon! Muwhaha!
ReplyDeleteThis seems like the result of a bad cloning experiment on twilights part
ReplyDelete@frostedWarlock
ReplyDeleteThat argument falls when you apply it to the show. Lyra never had a name before the toy, except within the fandom. Then a toy, who looks almost if not exactly like her, shows up and is called Heartstrings. Who do we take for granted, the fandom that makes ponies murderers or the company that controls the franchise?
You decide.
@MudPuppy
ReplyDeleteI assure you, we won't change it. Show takes precedence over anything, so Trixie is hear to stay.
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteSo wait how does that make my argument invalid? You never explained why my points don't matter, you just shifted the topic.

ReplyDelete@frostedWarlock
ReplyDeleteRainbow Dash does not have butterfly wings and dresses in style in the show, Applejack does not own a truck in the show, Spike is not a quadroped in the show, Fluttershy is not a Rainbow Dash recolor in the show, and Apple Bloom is Scootaloo in the show, and vice-versa.
I hate repeating myself...
EDIT: Sorry, made an error...
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteThe argument here is between the show and the crew, REMEMBERING that there are more people on the crew than Jayson (who wants to leave it up to us) and Nayaki (who doesn't really care).
Now I reiterate the question since you've conveniently danced around it. Who is more trustworthy? A mega-corporation who is more interested in making money than paying attention to what goes on in the show they sponsor, or the people who spend every day making that show and making it great? Would you get a better answer about the show from Hasbro's CEO or Sibsy? The auctioneer or the artist? Who is the better source here?
Stop... fighti--- *sigh* I'm not one to say, aren't I?
ReplyDeleteHey, hey guys. Stop acting like how I do. Argue, that's fine. But I saw one or two personal insults and... that pisses people off then it causes a chain reaction and then everyone's telling each other to go fuck each other and...
Don't call the fandom full of psychos. That's one thing.
And I want to ask, I feel like the fandom cares more for the show and its continuity and such than the toy department. They're just here for money. What's your opinion on that?
I guess, to simplify, we're talking about whether the fandom or Hasbro's toy department takes higher priority? It's not an easy question, I'll say that.
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteBut that doesn't change the fact that the toyline often contradicts canon so why should we treat it as (to use a trope) Word of God even though the source is consistently fallible?
Alright, now Hasbro is just screwing with us. You give them one trademarked name and they slap it on a dozen random made-up ponies! Twilight Shy?! The blindbags are just too much. We must ignore them.
ReplyDelete@Rainbow Smash
ReplyDeleteIt's not about who's more trustworthy, it's about who's more official. Big Macintosh was Big McIntosh for a while because we followed what Lauren said on a certain sketch on her deviantart. Then, in the last blindbag release, Hasbro released a toy called "Big Macintosh". With Hasbro taking more officialness than the crew, we changed it back.
All in all, it's about being official.
@frostedWarlock
ReplyDeleteHere's an example. Cheerilee was named as such due to her toy being called Cheerilee. Her name was never mentioned until episode three of season 2.
Also, what else do we base names on? The fanon? Hahaha, that's a laugh.
Think of it this way:
ReplyDeleteOnly the Television Series has improved whereas every other department is still just as butt-fudged as ever.
Your wiki isn't an Official Hasbro anything. If they start paying you, then you can claim that. It's a fandom project, and your decision to use the random throwaway toy names is a completely arbitrary one. Putting a /Heartstrings after Lyra would have been sufficient. Similarly, putting a notation in Trixie's article that a toy that looks somewhat like her is called Lulamoon satisfies that trivia requirement.
ReplyDelete@Xalgoz
ReplyDeleteWe never claimed to be Hasbro Official. We do, however, claim to be as close to the show as possible.
Also, to answer the question, we have put info about Lulamoon in Trixie's article, and we have put info about Lyra into Heartstrings article. So what is there to complain about?
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteI keep trying to phrase my comment to be brief and basic but I keep accidentally rambling so I'm stepping out of this with the argument "I have better shit to do than argue with someone who doesn't seem to consider the possibility that the other side might be correct." It might be insanely hypocritical, but is technically correct.
@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteAlright. The argument is about who is more "official" May I offer an analogous situation to illustrate this?
Official sources say that video games are harmful to minors and will make your child aggressive and far more likely to hurt or kill people. These are sources like the government of California, Lawyers, Politicians, and Doctors. You can believe them. They are very official sources after all. They have all the degrees and power and fancy paperwork and everything. On the other hand, you can believe a source like Pen and Teller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWr4htYp9dM
Pen and Teller go right to the source, ask questions, perform experiments and really investigate the people in question, rather than making wild statements and passing it as fact. Are they official? Hell no! They're just two funny guys with a TV show!
But are they TRUSTWORTHY?
Well, I say they are. I trust their method. I trust their record. I trust the work they do and the passion they put into it and their concern for the people. Pen and Teller are far more trustworthy than the government of California or Jack Thompson, or Hilary Clinton. But they're certainly not as official.
Now, carry this over to the concept at hand. who's more official, Hasbro or the crew? Well Hasbro definitely. They have the money and the paperwork and the big offices... But who's the one that gets right into the nitty gritty of the question at hand? Who slaves away at it and works towards getting every little cog to fit? Who do you think can better give you the RIGHT answer. Not the official answer... the RIGHT answer.
@frostedWarlock
ReplyDeleteI am not disagreeing with you. I actually do think some things with the crew take precedence over Hasbro. But it's the overall census with the wiki, and we follow policies. Please don't be angry with me.
@MachinimistLuke
ReplyDeletePerfect. This is perfect.
So twilight's parents have the same first name not last?
ReplyDelete@Rainbow Smash
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree with you. Some things do deserve more crewmanship than needed. But as I said, it's not about trustworthiness, it's about officialness. Just think of it like this:
What is the show based on, originally?
Since you run a fandom wiki, the most easily identifiable and commonly used name should take precedence whenever possible. If people start to actually use Heartstrings, that's cool, but don't try to shoehorn it in just to be "official". You and I both know more BG or minor ponies with canonical names are going to get made and slapped with random names, and your argument will get weaker and weaker. The toy people just don't care.
ReplyDelete@Xalgoz
ReplyDeleteI never said the toy people give a rat's ass about the names. And I agree with you, but I am following the wiki policies. If you want, you can make a forum about changing the policies on the wiki.
These are officially NOT cannon, IMO.
ReplyDelete@Shadowdemon137
ReplyDeleteThe show was based on a bunch of toy horses that Hasbro wanted to sell.
But it became something more. It became something totally different than it was before. It changed. To say that it has to be what it started as is to say that all human beings are is a sperm and egg cell.
But I don't think it's worth arguing anymore. I got my answer. I asked if you can explain why you follow Hasbro over the Crew and I got my answer. Because you prefer being official over being right. I suppose I kept arguing because I didn't want it to be so, but you've said it plain as day: MLPWiki doesn't care about being a trustworthy source.
It wants to be an official source. Like the Californian government or a lawyer.
So yeah. I guess I simply can't trust your wiki any more than I can a lawyer. I didn't want that to be the case, but I guess it's true.
@Rainbow Smash
ReplyDelete>implying official is not trustworthy.
I hate to make sad news. We keep to the show as best as possible. When we can't rely on the show, we go to the next best thing. You can try changing the policies if you want.
But if it's come to you leaving our wiki because you can't trust us anymore, than so be it. I really hate to see a good person go though :/
@Jonny Manz
ReplyDeleteWhy can't you just kick him off then? I man, head honcho or not, if everybody doesn't like him and he's willing to insult users and not be a team player, why don't you just get rid of him? Like when a ship captain goes insane the first mate gets command of the bridge?
Also, everybody can just slop the MLP wiki. This one is much better:
http://mylittlebrony.wikia.com/wiki/My_Little_Brony_Wiki
It takes ALL sources into account rather than just Hasbro and it's WAY more user friendly.
@Pants-on-Head Man
ReplyDeleteWould it break your heart if I told you I'm a bureau for that wiki?
@Pants-on-Head Man
ReplyDeleteWoah, it looks better, too! I like this.
-----
Also, you can't at least put "also called Lyra" or something like that? I really don't think that should be a problem.
@EdahsL beat you to it.
ReplyDeleteY'know what we need? A fic where Trixie is accused of crimes committed by the nefarious Lulamoon. Or vice-versa. Probably vice-versa.
Just like all fandoms there are different levels of canon... Let's take Star Wars for example... They are (more or less) in this order...
ReplyDeleteGeorge Lucas, movies, novels of the movies, tv series, behind the scenes experts (crew members of the above), books, comics, website, etc.
With MLP the hierarchy is similar... Faust, the show, begins the scenes experts, toy line, etc.
The way it works is pretty simple... You start at the top official (the official part is important) and work your way down... The trixie toy is trumped by the show, so canon she is trixie. Heartstrings is the official toy name, it is not contradicted by Faust, tv show, or crew members... There fore that is her canon name until one of the greater sources contradict it.
This is how ALL fandoms work... Tiers... Unfortunately fan works are not official at all,.so even ' bad' official sources trump them.
@Shadowdemon137 I see your point and everything, but do you honestly think that the fan community as a whole is in support of having Big Macintosh and Pinkie as killers? If you do then you're judging the fanbase by the shock fics and that's not really right. Most fans I've seen follow the show's characterization, often times *better* than Hasbro does when it comes to their toy descriptions.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, yeah I think that canon is better to follow than fanon, but the toys don't really equal canon for me when none of the show's team gets any say at all in the names or descriptions of the toys. If they had, I don't think they'd give Trixie any other name than Trixie.
@Koji
ReplyDeleteDunno about everything else, but in that case, can Carrot Top and Berry Punch keep their names?
Also, no one's answering my questions. Someone really should because I'm really curious about something.
