Lauren Faust's brand new project has popped up on various comic book blogs around the internet. Though this is not directly pony related, it's still Lauren, and she's awesome, so I'm reporting it!
The new cartoon titled "Super Best Friends Forever" will be an animated short style show starring Batgirl, Super Girl, and Wonder Girl. The low quality image above shows off the art style somewhat. Hopefully we can get a better image eventually!
There isn't a whole lot of other information pertaining to the project right now. As more pops up, I'll probably keep reporting on it.

Thanks to everyone for the heads up!

Not sure if want.
ReplyDeleteWell, it isn't the first time they have tried an all girls cartoon with that license.
ReplyDeletei want enough for the both of us
ReplyDelete@henke37
ReplyDeleteNo its not, but Faust can actually make it work, I'd wager
Huh. Certainly sounds interesting enough.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for Lauren.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what she does and where she goes, there'll still be someone recognising her ONLY for ponies.
She's a writer; she goes from place to place, and never stays on one part for too long. She doesn't want to be stuck in her past.
I'd personally rather see Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls become a cartoon. Now that's interesting.
ReplyDeleteNot Sure if Awesome or amazing
ReplyDeleteAs much as I'm happy for Lauren Faust as an artist, animator and creator, I'd still like to know how the Galaxy Girls project is going for her.
ReplyDeleteIf it's anything like Teen Titans, it could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Batman: TAS. I hope this brings it justice.
ReplyDelete@neko244
ReplyDeleteHERDMIND!
ah now I see why she left MLP. It's hard to turn down a chance to work with Batman material. Fingers crossed she brings in voice actors from Batman:TAS.
ReplyDeleteGo Lauren! Breathe some life into that DC universe before the reboot can kill it! I'm sure she's going to make this awesome cause that's just what Lauren does.
ReplyDeleteI love Batman!
ReplyDeleteI am so watching this. Coming from an expert on giving female characters depth, complexity and personality, I can't wait to see this coming from her mind. I am hyped :3
I'm really excited for what she has planned, but wtf kinda title is "Super Best Friends Forever"?
ReplyDeleteFaustian: "an arrangement in which an ambitious person surrenders moral integrity in order to achieve power and success."
ReplyDeleteWomen of DC, I'm thinking yes.
wow sexy art all the time
ReplyDeleteThat sounds completely awesome!!
ReplyDeleteOk so they need to use Pinkie Pie's VA as Harley Quinn.
ReplyDeleteIf it's being spearheaded by Lauren, I'm sure it's going to be another gem. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope that title is a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteI was so hoping to see some Galaxy Girls.
Super Best Friends Forever? haha awesome!
ReplyDeleteSound's pretty interesting, defenatly gonna check it out.
ReplyDeletesounds interesting. I guess this is another thing to build up her resume before Galaxy Girls?
ReplyDeleteStill, sounds right up her alley. As of late (especially in the actual books) comic superheroines have been getting less and less actual development (well, except for THAT kind of development, *cough*starfire*cough), and It'll be interesting to see how Lauren will take on their characters.
I still don't like the title.
ReplyDeletebut hey Im a massive Comic book nerd, so im excited for just about all of those shows (expect the Batman one, don't like the style and Alfred with guns? NOPE, but who knows it could be cool.)
there's art of Supergirl's design at least somewhere.
Seriously folks... With all of the unrelenting awesome she crammed into a show about G-rated Ponies, I have trouble comprehending the epicness of what she could do with all-out action characters and the freedom to go crazy with super-powers and villains.
ReplyDeleteThat said, from the cutesy title I'd say they definitely want her to bring some of that pony-vibe with her... so I expect a good amount of sillyness entering Batgirl's world.
And as for Harley, Tara Strong is already doing a kickass version of her for the Batman: Arkham City game. I was sad that they didn't get Arleen Sorkin back, but Tara seems to have stepped up to the role admirably!
I do not know if I want this or not.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to watch at least 1 episode I guess.
I hope it won't look as bad as Beware the Batman concept art.
ReplyDelete@vetro
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of title is 'Friendship is Magic'? But I know what you mean, any other way this would have been groan worthy, but if this is coming from Faust than I can expect good thing.
Am I the only one who caught the mention of FiM debuting on Cartoon Network in Spring 2012? :/
ReplyDeleteOh wait no. I followed the source's source. I'm evidently reading that wrong and the source linked to just fails at clear grammar.
"Super best friends forever" ... XD
ReplyDeleteBUT I WANT MILKY WAY AND THE GALAXY GIRLS, NOT THIS!
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe when it airs i will see an episode or two.
Dude.
ReplyDeleteYES.
So very much YES.
I mean really. Lauren Faust... AND comic book Superheroines! Combine with Faust's obvious knowledge of how to make good stories and have them be female sensitive (unlike so many comic book writers)...
I dunno about any other Comic Book fans out there, but to me, the existence of this is an absolute GOOD.
and here it is.
ReplyDeletehttp://img163.imageshack.us/img163/5411/captureeze.jpg
Quality kinda sucks but whatever.
and yes that is a claymation Batman, it's another one of the shorts.
I'll watch it for sure, but I'm not a fan of batman stuff.
ReplyDeleteThey are described as shorts and they appear due in spring 2012. It doesn't sound like a big project.
Well, good to know what took Lauren away from MLP (although I'd wager the pace of the production also had a hand in it). I'm glad to see she isn't hard up for work, at least.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll be watching this one, however. I've never been too fond of the DCU to be honest.
ok well i hope we get a good super hero show out of this at least has not been one 4 years
ReplyDeleteNo Milky Way And The Galaxy Girls? That's... certainly something I'd never have expected, but it still strikes me interested.
ReplyDeleteSo...Which Batgirl? There's three of them, ya know!
ReplyDeleteOh who am I kidding, its gonna be Barabra Gordon because Cassandra Cain and Stephenie Brown aren't real characters deserving of showing up outside of the comics!
No, I'm not bitter. Not at all! *grumble*
Seriously though, Lauren Faust helming Batgirl sounds a lot better than a "gun totting Alred".
@rockerman100
ReplyDelete>implying Brave and the Bold isn't totally awesome.
On the Flipside... Beware the Batman doesn't look too good for me.
ReplyDeleteGun Toting Alfred Pennyworth? As awesome as that may sound on paper... I'm not sure how well it fits him. True enough he was in Her Majesty's special forces... but I'm pretty sure he was a field medic.
Also I'm not sure how well Batman would take to that. You know. Given how often they remind us that his character "doesn't like guns."
I'm not a real superhero or comic book fan myself, but I'll give it a watch. Not sure though I know she got me to watch My Little Pony, but still.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but think of the South Park episode whenever I hear 'Super Best Friends'... 'Swallow! Sea men!' 'It's Sea MAN.'
ReplyDeleteseriously the only thing that is somewhat cool about the Batman thing atm is Professor Pyg cause I <3 Grant Morrison and his work.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear. I wish Faust the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteIt airs in 2013. I don't think it's possible to make any sort of informed judgment of how good the show will be.
ReplyDelete@naahdude
ReplyDeletethat's the Batman show, the shorts are due for sooner that that I believe.
Well, I don't like comic books (gasp!), but then again I didn't like ponies either before seeing FiM.
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a legitimate chance because Lauren definitely deserves it.
This is awesome, and pretty timely, given that there's been a lot of talk recently about the lack of female writers in the DC comic universe reboot, and how skeezy some of the issues of the new comics have been.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, congrats Lauren, can't wait.
Very dissapointed, I was hoping for Galaxy Girls.
ReplyDelete@Inconspicularity
ReplyDeleteI wish she could get her Galaxy Girls show on air. I'd love to see that, and I want to see one of Lauren's original projects.
@Ish
ReplyDeleteTotally, I'd have zero interest in a superhero cartoon otherwise, but she makes things awesome. The only show that's gotten to me the way MLP has was Powerpuff Girls back in the day.
No Power Girl no deal. I'd rather have a Galaxy Girls cartoon then another DC animated series without Kara (And Kara Zor-El don't count btw)
ReplyDeleteWell, it ain't Galaxy Girls, which means Lauren still can't make exactly what she wants...but let's look at this way. Let's take a closer look at MLP, then when this show premiers, analyze that one. Look for some common elements. Those elements may be what Galaxy Girls is going to go for, except on a grander scale.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, glad to see Lauren's still in business. Ponies has taught me to ignore stereotypes (otherwise I still wouldn't have seen the show) so I'll be less reluctant to see this once it comes out. It's Lauren Faust no matter what.
well they are shorts so do them involve different artist and styles? (considering there is a claymation batman there)
ReplyDeleteI can expect good female dialogue whenever Faust is involved so I might check it out I do wonder how involved is here, as a writer? animator? or what? anyways I bet her shorts are going to be great and hope the rest are too if it works the way I think it will work
now on beware of the batman.... the art style is.....what? if it looks anything like that I don't think I could watch it without screaming in fear I mean look at his face...
and yeah its not Galaxy girls but sadly that's how it works and how stubborn the industry is and the more good projects and awesome shows with female characters she shows to the world the closer she is to fulfilling that dream at least being allowed to make GG into a series
What Lauren should do is make a 10 minute Galaxy Girls short and if she needs funds just set up a Kickstarter and ask Bronies for donations.
ReplyDeleteThen upload the short on YouTube and no doubt it'll get 1-4 million views easy.
So that way the suits at Cartoon Network or wherever will see firsthand that Galaxy Girls is viable as a series and greenlight it.
That's what Kevin Tancharoen did when he made that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short with his own money and it worked because the WB greenlighted 10 webisodes then later a full length movie.
People might be reading too much into this... She's producing a series of shorts for Cartoon Network. That's nowhere near the commitment of doing a season or more of a full half-hour show. It's entirely possible that this isn't the only iron she currently has in the fire, so there's no reason to write off the possibility of seeing anything else from her.
ReplyDeleteAs for the claymation Batman up there, that's from a series of shorts being done by Aardman Animation, famed for "Wallace and Grommit" and others.
Will definitely be keeping my eye on this. Also I can't help but feel that it'll be another step on the way to Galaxy Girls.
ReplyDeleteschnitzel?
ReplyDeleteGalaxy Girls would kick Sailor Moon from here to next week. ^.~
ReplyDeleteSo THIS is why she walked of My Little Pony?
ReplyDeleteWell, in that case, I'd better keep an eye out on this.
I have mixed feelings about this.
ReplyDeleteThis might sound a bit abstract but I want to hear her artistic voice in full without any kind of filtering or compromise.
It may sound like a lofty prize, but you know what, her work ultimately led to the creation of an entire subculture. Frankly, I don't know what else she needs to do in order to be legitimized further.
Someone should just go "Here Lauren, have a blank canvas, financial support and go and make the best show you can. No demographic restrictions, no pre-established canon - You're free."
Obviously, I'll watch anything Lauren makes, Galaxy girls and SuperBFF included. My "consumer confidence" regarding her products is nearly absolute at this moment in time.
I guess I just worry about her..
She just responded to this on her DA acc talking about the project apparently.
ReplyDeleteKnowing Lauren Faust, this should be sweet.
ReplyDeletePower Puff Girls all over again.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for Galaxy Girls :(
ReplyDeleteIS THIS FOR REAL??
ReplyDeleteDO WANTx295993469396
Actually it's a good thing that she left MLP then. I didn't really care for Galaxy Girls but "Super Best Friends Forever" OMG. I wonder whether Wonder Girl is referring to Cassie or just a younger Diana. Beware the Batman also sounds promising! I'm going to miss Brave and the Bold, but I like that Robin is getting the boot (yay Katana!) and everything could use more Alfred.
I'm psyched for most of the Warner Bros. productions. The Green Lantern show looked really well written and the Daffy Duck short had me rolling. I don't know how they snagged Lauren Faust but hey, I've seen what she's capable of and I'm looking forward to some quality stuff from her.
ReplyDelete@Calnos
ReplyDeleteI'll be surprised if it's not Babs. Not that I don't love her, but I'd prefer to see a World's Finest teamup of Stephanie and Kara Zor-el on television. I guess it's not meant to be...Then again, I also don't really want Batman to be in her shorts either. Just my favorite ladies kicking ass, plz!
@b man
ReplyDeleteI hope CN does NOT pick up FIM. Since CN is still under Snyder's horriable reign, the show will last a season and then disappear into thin air just like Symbionic Titan did last year. CN hates successful shows, MLP will not get as much respect like The Hub is giving MLP now. Keep MLP on The Hub and let CN rought in stupid cartoon h!!!
So let me get this straight...
ReplyDeleteAt the current time with the details revealed it sounds like...
The Powerpuff Girls in the DC Universe.
I am ok with this. Give it to me now.
Seems like SBFF may or may not be 3 minuters (remember Tartakovsky's Clone Wars?), Which IIRC, was a plan for MWGG (which if SBFF works out, could have a very nice spot on CN). Also, MLP on CN may not be so bad (I mean, Yugioh on CN wasn't altered, and properly promoted.)
ReplyDeleteand yes, I'm of the group that wants MWGG to be a series (and really, who wouldn't want it? dolls are selling strong now on FAO, Faust made a name for herself that can carry potential fans to any of her shows)
ReplyDeleteI feel bad that nobody has picked up Galaxy Girls yet. That show would be so awesome! Considering that everything Lauren touches turns to gold you'd think they'd give her a chance.
ReplyDeleteIt's Pigma and Slippy!
ReplyDeleteMy Little Pony isn't moving to Cartoon Network. The source article was simply phrased awkwardly when trying to identify Lauren Faust as the creator of the show.
ReplyDeleteCould be neat but I hope the art doesn't suck. I love faust but ponies aside the art in her shows usually turns me off.
ReplyDeleteStill I love da ponies!
What kinda title is that? ._.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I know Friendship is Magic isn't much better.
That's sweet, I'm always up for some cartoons. And Lauren Faust is included in this project? Time to feel awkward about watching a show that's demographic is focused on girls again XD.
ReplyDelete@Ragneki5880
ReplyDeleteTHAT is exactly the kind of attitude Lauren Faust is trying to change by making entertaining cartoons focused on females!
If you want Galaxy Girls to have a better chance at being a reality, we have to ensure that shows like Super Best Friends Forever, and any of Lauren's endeavors after are big successes. It won't make the show come faster, but it will certainly help.
ReplyDeletePlus, I think it could be a good show. I mean, given Lauren's track record, there's no chance that it'll be bad.
So they snagged her for that DC Nation thing coming to CN in 2012. Can't wait to see what fun she has in the DC Universe.
ReplyDeleteHmm... Bat-Schnitzel
Doom Patrol! seriously wasn't expecting that
Beware the Batman..................
Wow..That's either going to be really good or really really bad. Batman The Brave and The Bold was cancelled to make this so they had better be playing with their A-team.
Alrighty... So, Lauren Faust is working on something new...
ReplyDeleteThe best of luck! :D
Eeeeexcellent... I will look forward to this :)
ReplyDelete@James Corck
ReplyDeleteYou've absoluteley NOT been paying attention have you? she's not doing the Batman one.
Wow I'm pretty disapointed with this Beware the Batman idea. Seriously the fans were all complaining about The Brave and the Bold, for not being dark. Actually everything not DCAU related was given a hard time, even The Batman.
ReplyDeleteFrankly I fell like they've been beating a dead horse with all that yearning for gritty. Now we have a Alfred, the aid to Bruce Wayne, who's parents were killed by guns, fighting alongside a masked vigilante with guns!!!
Seriously he's not even masked!
If its Lauren Faust's project than it must be good. I kinda feel bad that we havent seen Galaxy Girls picked up yet.
ReplyDeleteI wish Lauren Faust luck in all of her indevours, May one day she get her Galaxy girls project off the ground and into SPAAAAAAAAACE!!
ReplyDelete@pmcollectorboy
ReplyDeleteSorry buddy, but no. A: It feels like a straight-up ripoff. B: SM is one of the most recognized characters across the globe while GG doesn't seem to have that many fans.
