• "How You Became a Brony" Compilation Project

Someone over on Youtube recently collected a bunch of video responses of various people talking about how they ended up watching a cartoon for 12 year old girls.  We all have our stories, and I've had discussions posts about it in the past, but this is the first time a compilation has been created in video form.  Check it out after the break! Feel free to drop your story in the comments.

    1. Its for 12year old girls? I thought it was younger :P

    2. Hope we get some bronies of color in this.

      VastaKustuta
    3. STOP BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL, ALL OF YOU!

    4. All I know is the me from 6 months ago would laugh at me.

And I'd laugh at him knowing what he's missing.

Then be envious of him because he's going to experience it all new...

    5. god dang it, i forgot to do this.

I became a brony when it was mentioned on PotD.

I fell in love with the show and then the rest fell into place.

      VastaKustuta
    6. I became a brony thanks to Mast3rlinkx!

If it wasn't for him, I might have not become a brony! :3

      VastaKustuta
    7. actually, if i had known my position a year ago, I would've guessed i liked the 34 above all else.

This show has since made me give up 34 and porn, nearly completely

      VastaKustuta
    8. Well, my Bronydom actually started out as me making fun of bronies. I like alot of people out there thought it was pretty strange for teens to watch, but I got told by a friend (Brony) that if I watched an episode I would change my mind. And here I'am 28 episode's later!

      VastaKustuta
    9. I started by making fun of the show, then one of my friends gave me his reasons for watching it, and linked me to episode 1. I watched it, but wasn't quite sure what to think. So I watched episode 2 and 3, and got hooked on it.

      VastaKustuta
    10. I came across it, when on the rooster teeth website. i thought "these pony meme's would be funnier with context, so i guess i'll give the show a try" i watched "ponies, the anthology" then the series, then almost everything else, including the princess trollestia, and all of the PMV's... i proceeded to convert as many people as i can. i love this fandom!

    11. Post your intro to ponies story, huh? Well okay...

May: I noticed a thread about ponies on a non pony-related forum. Found the concept really unusual. So many teen and young-adult guys (like me) were interested, that I assumed it must be some kind of mind control.

June: As the fad continued to grow and appear across the web, my curiosity got the better of me. Still fearing mind control, I watched the pilot while wearing a spaghetti strainer on my head for mind control protection. I found the pilot mediocre, declared there was no mind control, and proceeded to watch a few more episodes without the strainer.

As the month wore on, I seemed to be watching episodes more often, but I chalked it up to mid-summer boredom.

July: Reached episodes 14, 15, and 16. That's probably what got me hooked right there, those three are awesome. As I got near the end of the season, it began to occur to me that the ponies had in fact waited until I trusted them to activate their mind control. Confound these ponies.

August: Started to poke cautiously around the fandom. Discovered Equestria Daily.

September: Started frequenting Equestria Daily. (Basically every day). Started to get over the shock of having been captured by this fandom.

Yesterday: Joined my college's brand new pony club.

      Today: And here I am.

    12. Became a brony accidentally. I help moderate a minor messageboard, and as research before telling 'those pony guys' to stop spamming the board, I watched episode one... Then two... Then..

Oops. We have our own thread now, though, and have stopped spamming the board...

      VastaKustuta
    13. To be quite honest, I started watching the show because I thought "hmmm it's about horses this might be good". My family and I have a lot of love for horses (my sister in particular, who is an awesome rider). Came for the horses, stayed for everything else I guess is my point =).

      VastaKustuta
    14. i suppose i might as well go into detail.

May: Found topic about Pony 34 on gamefaqs. proceeded to look for said 34. Found nothing appealing. Then it was mentioned again and i watched Episode 16, then Episode 1. then i watched an episode a day for a while.

June: I just watched PMVs but I mostly spent my time playing games.

July: spent most of month playing games, came here near the end of July.

August: started reading shipping fanfiction, read about 70ish before getting burned out on reading. Spent rest of month keeping up with the community. Fell into bad habit of criticizing self for not thinking about Ponies.

September: same old, same old. Season 2. Bought Fluttershy toy and Pony coloring books and stickerts.

October: Same, keeping up with community.

    15. Saw pony memes at memebase ,i think,

thought a few days what to do, decided to watch the show, was funny but not something to spectacular.

found EqD and read some fanfics and saw the art

that sold it totaly, that was when all the episodes were already out and hmm dont really know now when it was.

      VastaKustuta
    16. I first saw some mention of the G4 pony cartoon on someones DevianART journal. At the time I didn't realy think much of it. It was untill April 1st when the Sonic F April Fools episode came out on youtube did I take a look at FiM for myself. And the rest is history

      VastaKustuta
    17. DOH DOH DOH DOOOH! DOH DOH DOH DOH... COME SING WITH ME! PFFT... HA HA HA

      VastaKustuta
    18. I'm a lurker on NeoGAF (though I'm on the PonyGAF chats as Rhomega) because of their "no free email" rule. So while I was on there, the first pony thing I noticed was an animated avatar of Applejack jumping through her lasso from Boast Busters. I had no idea what it was, but at the same time I noticed the My Little Pony thread which I quickly dismissed. However, over time I noticed the thread had grown, and wondered what the heck was going on. So I went through the very informative OP, learned the characters, and became morbidly curious. So on March 25th, I went on YouTube, watched the first three episodes on MenloMarseilles's channel, and got hooked.

      VastaKustuta
    19. At the start it was only tolerating everypony who liked the show and stuff, but then...
I started watching parodies on Youtube and stuff, then i knowed about of the Luna Game, and finally watched Friendship Is Magic Bitch and decided to watch the show.
As Rainbow Dash would say, i was addicted to the show in TEN. SECONDS. FLAT.
And the rest is as you would expect..

      VastaKustuta
    20. Ashamed to admit, but I first saw some rule34 (damned be you!) on Funnyjunk, then later I googled it most out of boredome.
Six hours and 17 episodes in and my brain was full of pony, and has been ever since :)

      VastaKustuta
    21. Hmm, how did I become a brony? Well, I honestly will say, I didn't know about MLP: FIM until I was chatting it up with my friends in IRC and they started mentioning the latest episodes and how good they were and that sparked my curiosity. But I didn't watch it. It wasn't until I started seeing a smorgashboard of art on DA that I really had to know what was going on. So I went to Youtube, typed in My Little Pony and was taken to the first two episodes and I watched them. And I have to say, that is what got me hooked. For two days straight, I watched episode after episode until there wasn't anymore and I had to wait for the new one to come out. And I have to say, my obessession with MLP: FIM started coming out. I looked for art, fanfics, anything I could find! And I was so happy and amazed at everything that was out there and more and more coming in every single day!! Intriguing stories, awesome art, folks making plushies, all kinds of things. I think I will be a brony until the end, even if the show is ever ended, I will continue to be a brony!

      VastaKustuta
    22. I saw Pony pictures on Memebase as well, so after a few weeks of some really funny pics, I decided to check it out. Got hooked, especially after seeing some videos about Doctor Whooves (I love the Doctor). Then about a month later I started reading EqD and now I am a girl brony, or whatever the proper term for it is.

      Disregard males, acquire ponies.

      VastaKustuta
    23. Funny. I became a brony from a YTP.

      VastaKustuta
    24. Right when I tought the day couldn't get any better XD

I am the Brony with the spanish accent who lost his Job in Christmas X3

If you excuse me, I'm going to open a can of beer to celebrate. This is too awesome <3

      VastaKustuta
    25. I became a brony when a person with the username "kirby" told me about it. I was hooked right after the first two episodes.

      VastaKustuta
    26. My friend decided to put the old MLP movie on my external hard drive while we were at college one day, for the lulz. For some reason this caused me to go home, watch it, then look up more stuff about it on YouTube. Of course all I typed in was 'My Little Pony' so FiM episodes were one of the first things that popped up.

My instant reaction was just, "Oh, I didn't know they made a new MLP series, might as well check it out, the animation looks nice." (I am on a games/animation course so whether the animation is nice or not is one of my first reactions, hehe.) And so episode number one began.

      Then two.
      Then three.
And before I knew it I was on episode 13 or so and I was wondering why on earth this FiM show was so much better than the old MLP. (Also made me realise how goddamn ugly all the old versions of the ponies were, thank god for Lauren Faust.)

I'm a girl though, so it's probably not as weird for me to admit liking the show as it probably was for some of you. :P

      VastaKustuta
    27. It was TF2 that got me into it, Played the game regularly and started seeing Pony sprays, avatars and names popping up on just about every server I went on (Bronies are everywhere on that game). A lot of youtube channels I'd subbed to were liking and favoriting pony videos as well, so I checked out the first 2 episodes back around June/July I think, didnt think much of it but then after seeing way way more pony related content popping up all over the internet I decided to keep watching it again in late July and was hooked at episode 4, kept watching episodes over the next couple of hours and started considering myself as a Brony at about episode 10. Found out about EQD a couple of days after and I've been following the show and its fandom religiously since then.

      VastaKustuta
    28. @Summer if i am right, the correct term is Pegasister, not sure though.

      Memebase you say, same here.

I was laughing at the bronies when i saw the first pony pics. Soon, my curiosity got the better of me, i was skeptical, kept telling myself:

"Just one episode, it's rubbish anyway."

Now i'm hooked... I have a weak will, or the ponies have too strong mind control.

      VastaKustuta
    29. Ah, this is real nice.

I don't think my brony story is much different from anyone else's: I heard it from a friend on the internet, decided to give it a whirl and became instantly hooked. And my reaction changed from "why the hell am I watching this?!" to "why the hell can't I stop?!" to "why the hell shouldn't I watch this?!" I thought of myself as a pretty open-minded guy before I started watching this show, but my own surprise with my fanaticism with MLP made me realize I had no clue.

What's interesting is that while the show itself is great, it's really this amazing fandom that keeps me coming back for more. For me a huge part of the joy of watching a new episode is knowing all the crazy stuff bronies will do with it. I certainly wouldn't be inspired to write fan fiction with ponies or visit Equestria Daily...um, daily...if it wasn't for this fandom.

      VastaKustuta
    30. I thought it was 8 years and older, I fail to see how I'm not the target demographic

      VastaKustuta
    31. i watch MLP in KYM(Knowyourmeme) and then i watched the first episode, then equestria girls and then well i became a brony

      VastaKustuta
    32. "Two episodes. Two episodes and I'm done."

      That's what they ALL say.

      VastaKustuta
    33. pretty simplified...
bored with all the standard cartoon offerings the tv ended up on it and it wasnt bad...after that i was hooked

      VastaKustuta
    34. My transformation to a brony started after lurking random sites where alot of Pony art started to pop up. I didn't really pay attention to it then but after seeing a few of the characters a couple of time I got interessted and started googled it. After watching the first few episodes i was hooked. The characters, the joyfullness and colours was a nice change to the stressfull and generally dull life I was living.

Today I can honestly say that I am a happier man, and I believe I have the show and the community to thank for that. :)

      VastaKustuta
    35. Awesome. Me and Wing0002 Have the same story watching the code ment abridged. But I really got hooked on the show at episode three. It was just so well written.

      VastaKustuta
    36. A friend sent me a link to that Physics presentation video. I got curious and decided to check out the show. It was painful to type "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" on YouTube, but when i finished the 1st episode, i couldn´t help but keep watching the other eps. At the end of the day i was hooked.
After i finished the 1st season, i found EQD, started reading fanfics and discovered the amazing community.
The funny thing is that my friend is not a brony.

      VastaKustuta
    37. You really have to stop saying that it's for 12 year old girls, Seth. None of the 12 year old girls I know will even bother watching the show.

The only person I know that is in the key demographic is my 7 year old neighbor.

      VastaKustuta
    38. I saw it on 4chan for weeks, I thought nothing of it.

Then some other site had Ponycraft2. I enjoyed the editing, and knowledge that the show was popular on 4chan had me kinda curious, but I don't have cable and didn't plan to watch it.

Then someone told me every episode was on YouTube. That in itself was just odd. Full episodes of any show are never found on YouTube!

I started to watch it during my lunch breaks since it was available. By the 4th episode (specifically Twilight's alliteration when talking to AJ) I was 100% hooked.

      VastaKustuta
    39. My brother showed it to me. At first I was a bit sceptical, but my brother is always right with good stuff. So it wasnt hard for me to become a brony.

Today I turned a friend of mine into a brony (or at least a bit).
      Me: watch it.
      He: no.
      Me: yes you do.
      He: ok.
He (after first episode): actually its kinda funny.

      Everytime the same.

      VastaKustuta
    40. Because it pleased me to be.

What kind of dumb question is that, anyway?

      VastaKustuta
    41. I used to watch G1 ponies as a kid with my parents and sister; I thought they were kind of dumb even then, but they were amusing enough for a small child. I promptly forgot about it for a decade or so.
Then about a year ago I heard that they were doing a remake. I figured that it was one of those terrible reboots of classic kids shows in an attempt to make money off people watching for nostalgia or "irony" and promptly forgot about it entirely.
A few months later I started hearing about college kids and adults becoming fans of MLP. At the time I thought that it was one of those things where as people get out of high school they start doing stupid kid stuff again, because suddenly there's nobody to look down on them. I vaguely remembered the original show being amusing, if childish and kind of poorly done, and assumed that it was mainly people going back to that and exhilarating in the fact that they were allowed to watch a show about pastel ponies singing and like it. It was shortly pointed out to me that they were fans of the new series that I had forgotten rather than the old one that I watched as a kid, and I said 'huh' and resolved to go and check it out... eventually. I was busy, and I had a handful of video games and a few dozen anime series that were earlier in my queue.
Over the summer I was at a gaming session when one of the other players asked if I had watched MLP:FiM yet. I told him that it was on the list, and I'd get to it eventually. He ordered me to move it to the top of the list. A couple days later I was free for an extended period and decided to watch the first episode just to see what all the fuss was about. Ten hours later I'd marathoned the entire season, and I could see why people liked it. It was far from perfect, but it was well written and had a lot of interesting characters in it. I gladly counted myself as a fan and was glad that I'd watched it, but I still couldn't really understand the fanatical devotion that I'd seen from several of my friends. So I started looking around the internet for clues.
The first thing I discovered was that it was huge. I'd figured it would be a few thousand people, generally from gaming circles, otaku, and other groups of geeks, but the main viewership would be the little girls that it was clearly designed for. But the Herd numbers in the millions at least. Next was the fan-made supplementary material; normally a really popular show, within it's first few years, would have a couple hundred people making fanfics and fanarts and such, with maybe one or two who were really good at it and famous throughout the fandom. Here, there's more stuff than any human could possibly look through in their lifetime already. And the majority of it is really good. Something about this show apparently attracts the most brilliant artists, animators, composers, video editors, sculptors... And don't get me started on the fanfic. I was used to fanfic being the lowest form of literature, what the untalented and the children write when they can't make up stories of their own. Occasionally there would be something almost good enough to get published, and that would be the shining jewel of its little corner of the internet. 90% of everything is crap, and fanfiction is an even mix between the unfiltered masses and the people who got filtered out of every other form of writing. Here? Everything I've looked at is in the top 10% of the internet, quality-wise, and at least two of the best living authors on the planet are writing right here on EqD.

      VastaKustuta
    42. Hey, I'm not THAT good a writer Sindri.

      Now I'm blushing.

      VastaKustuta
    43. ¿12 years Old girl Series?

In this generation, even girls with 8 years think is too infantile watch something like that.

But in the other hand, people like us can enjoy more of this animation.

(True Fact: my cousin with 12 yeards old, don't see "adventure time" because "it's for little kids" it's a shame)

LOng Live to ponies (and animation in general)

      VastaKustuta
    44. How I became a Brony is one day, I was reading random pages on TvTropes, when I came across the "Fan Nickname" page. I scrolled down to the Western Animation section of that page, and thought "My Little Pony has Fan Nicknames? That's actually kinda funny. I wonder what kinds of nicknames a 7-year-old girl could come up with..." so I clicked on the link and read about "Pony Gaga", Dr. Whooves, and of course, Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo.

      VastaKustuta
    45. Got pulled into the loveable black hole of Ponies by way of a "King of The Hill" (by Mike Judge) subforum thread.

Got curious as to why there were so many Pony avatars used by some of the contributors, so I decided to find out what all the rage was about.

Retired from YTP watching a long time ago, so I haven't really checked out any Pony YTPs (yet).

The ponified music, still haven't gotten into that either, I'm afraid.

I'd love to buy (show-accurate) Rarity and Applejack plushies someday.

As for shipping, saw that in the Golden Sun fandom before, so no shock to me here. Not much into shipping myself, but I may end up reading some light shipping occasionally.

"Saucy" pictures? I just laugh at how absurd those ideas look, absolute hilarity.

Love the show, dug around in some pretty neat, no, AWESOME, fics, and the non-34 art is great, too.

Definitely a good extra injection of happiness for me, after stumbling upon these pastel coloured-equines.

(Just thought I'd throw this in there, I'm usually listening to ACϟDC while surfing this site. Surprisingly, it kinda works!)

P.S.: Anyone ever thought of making a "My Little Denver Bronco"? Just so happens to be my favourite NFL American football team (waaaaaay before G4 ponies happened).

      VastaKustuta
    46. @Sindri
But the most important thing is also the most subtle. After a few hours poking around the pony fansites, marveling at the size and quality of it all, I realized something. I was on the internet. An unmoderated, unmonitered, anonymous part of the internet. By all rights, grammar should not exist, porn should be everywhere, every post should include at least one profanity, and every other conversation should be an argument if not a flame war. But it wasn't. People were being nice. With few exceptions, every comment was polite, decently but not pretentiously written, and thoughtful. Even insightful. Every minute of the last decade has been teaching me that some people are worthwhile, but the majority of humanity are idiotic self-centered assholes. The internet was the worst of the worst, because anonymity and a lack of consequences makes the idiots louder and most of the good people into jerks. But here... either ponies attract the smartest, nicest people on the planet, or they make people that way. And it's spreading; every day the Herd grows larger, and it's only accelerating so far. I came here because the show was pretty good, but I stayed because the Herd restored my faith in humanity.

      VastaKustuta
    47. I was actually a fan of the original, G1 My Little Pony, back in kindergarten.
Many years later, driven in parts by nostalgia, I wrote an episode-by-episode review of the series, trying to show my readers how it had been a surprisingly dark cartoon that people tended to underestimate. All at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1k6JGHcJFKp-F6_M0-_TyUlJGIjmpj6KTn61PGDQbG0k/edit?hl=en
So, when Friendship Is Magic came out, I was there from the first episode, hoping it would be a worthy successor. And what do you know? It was even better!

      VastaKustuta
    48. One day, I was on "TF2mods", looking for some skins for TF2. then , I saw a HUD with RD (I didn't know who she was) as a scout.
After this, my perception of the internet changed. whatever I typed in google, Ponies started to pop-up everywhere.
And on this day, May the 15th, I typed "My little pony: Friendship is magic" in youtube search bar.

1st episode: Err, a two part episode ?! I'll watch the second part only to finish it, and over.

2nd episode: Hmmm...All right, maybe the two first episodes were good....but the third will be the last

3rd Episode: write in comments "Why is this show entertaining me so much ?!"

      23rd episode: WHERE'S THE 24TH ??!! I DIDN'T WATCHED 23 EPISODES TO BE STOPED SO SOON ! I DON'T WANT TO WAIT.

And this, my fellow bronies, is how I became a brony.

      VastaKustuta
    49. @Sindri But what will we be when the show eventually ends? Will we just disperse? Will we continue on? What will we be when there is nothing?

      VastaKustuta
    50. I saw references and memes in June (I am an Eve Online player and "Orbital Sieges are Magic" was posted everywhere) So I torrented the first season down and watched it thru. Basically, Fluttershy is the reason I am a brony. All her adorable squeeks and mannerisms. That kinda extends to all the characters. There's depth and detail to each of them, something you can't put your finger on but it's there nonetheless.

      VastaKustuta
    51. Not liking Fluttershy is a hangable offence. And Fluttershy pulls the lever.

      VastaKustuta
    52. Actually, my turning point was when I first read 'Cupcakes'.

      VastaKustuta
    53. aww man, I totally forgot to do this and be a part of the project.

anyways, How I became a Brony:
I always knew about The Hub and was rather looking forward to the whole Kids Discovery channel reboot. I was aware of My Little Pony on the network, but I didn't really think much of it.

Fast forward to earlier this year, around April/May. By then, I've been seeing a lot of pony on the internet. A. Lot. I finally broke down and just wanted to find out more about the show. When I saw that Lauren Faust was on the project, the show immediately sparked my interest. I saw a little bit of an episode (i forget which, i think it was apple buck season) and thought "huh, This actually isn't so bad"

Where's the part where I fully gave in?
I was at a family birthday party taking care of my younger cousins. Of course, in this day and age, they're always on a laptop playing a game or watching something on Youtube. I was taking care of the youngest of cousins, a little girl who's only a toddler, and was wondering what I can watch with her on the computer. Then I remembered Ponies the day before, and decided to try it out and just went to the official Hub site and see what full episode they had there.
Low and behold: It was "Party of One"
I had no idea what I was getting myself into and, of course, I loved it. The toddler? She didn't really seem to make much of it, but I was just glued to the screen. Loved the characters, animation, story, etc. And on probably the craziest episode to begin on.
The other younger cousins who stopped to see what we were watching were taken back a bit, especially parts with Pinkie Pie being Pinkie Pie, but who cares what they think...

And that, colts and fillies, is how I became a pony

      VastaKustuta
    54. I'm pretty sure MLP is for six year old girls.

      VastaKustuta
    55. @SuperGiantRobot

Easy enough, I think the momentum all the good fanfics/fan-whatever has created should keep everything running for a long, long, time.

Don't underestimate 'em. After all, wasn't that huge gap between seasons 1 and 2 easier to bear, what with this website being here?

      VastaKustuta
    56. the author of one of my favorite webcomics mentioned he had gotten into mlp. i looked at some fan art and thought 'hm, looks interesting, maybe i'll check it out at some point, i guess...'

then i started seeing the doctor whoof art. at first, i thought it was just a funny, unprompted character created by the fandom. when i found out he was an actual charcter (didn't know the similarities to david tennant were unintentional at the time) i immediatly got the first episode off of itunes, then bought the second. next thing i know, i'm watching them on youtube and having fun.

became a brony in march, wrote my first fan fiction in august-september (sepia tock, as an honor to who got me into the fandom), and now i'm telling my story.

interesting, no? nope, not that interesting...

      VastaKustuta

    58. I was actually introduced to MLP while I was playing Halo: Reach. Yup. One of my online buddies was talking about the show and I just kinda went along with it. Most everyone else was bashing him. So at this point, he proceeded to ask me if I had seen the new Pony series.

Before this conversation I was completely, and at the time, in oblivious contentment concerning anything pony.

I told him I hadn't. He said I should watch it. So I decided to humor him and watch it while we were still playing Reach. Seeing as how I was in an incredibly good mood, I nearly choked on laughter the moment the intro to the first episode started. "Created the world with their unicorn magic," I scoffed. As we played, I watched the first 3 episodes, with divided attention due to Reach.

A week later, I decided I should actually give my full attention to the show to see whether or not I really like the show. So I re-watched the first three episodes. Within a week, I had finished the rest of the season and was impatiently awaiting the arrival of season 2.

      That's my story. And I'm a Brony

    59. I lurked /b/ a lot and started noticing colorful ponies all over the place. I thought they were kind of funny, but annoying. It was an image of Pinkie Pie made me laugh for the first time in... months that I decided to try and figure out where all of these silly little image macros were coming from. Conveniently, I caught the 'official pony thread' when they were pulling exploitables from the latest episode (then episode 7) and sharing them. I found myself redirected to Masterlinkx (I have no idea how he spells his name, but you know who I'm talking about) and watched episode one... which of course was a two parter. So I had to watch episode two which was so full of plot (plot still meant story back then, to me anyway) I had to watch episode three. Episode three caught me off guard and then I was watching them like they were laced with visual cocaine. Two weeks later I was patiently waiting for episode nine to load when I realized I was a brony now.
A year later and this community still surprises me with it's productivity, creativity, kindness and general awesomeness.

    60. I know this will get me hated on, but I became a brony because of... wait for it... Cupcakes. Yes! It's true. I have a thing for slashfics, and the inherent innocence of MLP made it all the sweeter to my sick, depraved mind. Either way, I researched the background, watched Party of One, Realized how blatantly awesome all of the show was, and then bought season 1 on iTunes and watched the whole thing!!

But one thing I'd like to highlight is that the community was as important as the show itself. Just seeing all the comments on YouTube with all the jokes and camaraderie I wanted to be apart of that.

    64. I was a little late to the party; I discovered pony in late March through all of the art being posted on deviantART and the like, but I didn't start watching until three days before my 20th birthday. However, that night, I ended up watching seven episodes back to back. I was like, dayum, this is actually pretty good stuff.

Then, ohhhh boy... Then I watched Dragonshy. Ever since then, a certain yellow pegasus has had me wrapped around her hoof.

I didn't feel like a real brony, though, until I went to my first meet-up, and we marathoned the entirety of Season 1. BEST NINE HOURS OF MY LIFE. By the end of that day, I was great friends with what had been a room full of complete strangers just that morning. I knew then that this was the best fandom I had ever been a part of. My only regret was that I didn't join the Herd sooner.

    66. Well, I had finished my AS levels and the summer holidays had just started, I felt relieved to just spend time surfing the internet so I did. I noticed on Memebase that there was a considerable number of images relating to a new 'My Little Pony' TV Show and many people stating that they were fans, I thought this was odd as I remembered seeing (and despising) the adverts for the toys on TV (it was around G3) and thinking it was way too girly for me. Seeing the quality of the art direction and noticing just how many people liked it, I decided to watch the first episode and approach it with an open mind. It wasn't too terrible, so I decided it was worth watching episode 2. By Episode 3 I had decided that the show was good and not very girly. By Episode 5 I began to relate to the characters and love them. Things snowballed from there, my world was naught but ponies from then on. When I finished the 26 episodes I felt I needed MORE pony, so I read fanfiction and then comics and then I made music dedicated to the ponies and so on. This is the first real fandom I've been in and, as far as I can tell, it seems I chose the best possible fanbase to join. Peace to all of you :D

    67. Once upon a time on a computer much like the one I'm on now I was on the Telltale Games Forums and someone made a joke thread "confirming" Telltale making a Friendship is Magic game that even one of the employees decided to play along with. After seeing how many posts this got when it was new I decided to see what happened to this show I vaguely remember (my sister wasn't into girl stuff) and long story short (too late)I was hooked by episode 1.

    68. I was introduced to MLP by my brother. He insisted I watch the first two episodes, which I did. I thought it was ok but there are too many other "manly" thing I would rather be doing. It stayed like that until a week later.

      ROAD TRIP.

I was sitting in the back seat thinking about how bored I was when I remembered I had packed my laptop and air card. It was at that point I remembered why I wasn't using from the start it can't run any thing more complicated than a web browser (fire fox is the best). So I was stewing on how bored I was again when I remembered yet another thing this time it was that girly cartoon my brother had showed me. I thought why not I'll give it a shot it can't be any worse than the boredom. After three hours I'll a could think was MORE PLEASE.

    69. I... am, Sacredragon (Im from Steam!! :D) (I play on TF2 MLP Servers)

I remember watching the first few episodes late one night, which suddenly turned into me watching the entire 1st season in a few days. I couldn't quite explain what had happened, but the show was incredible to why and I still can't explain why...

I wanted to see more, but couldn't figure out where to search until a friend mentioned EqDaily and several other sites. Now I check here every morning before work and right before I head off to sleep each night, waiting for the next awesome video, picture, story, whatever it may be to have me in awe again.

Though I don't contribute with any of the mentioned above, I did however find my way into the MLP:FiM Steam Group and since then I have joined their Team Fortress 2 servers, hosting parties or just random "Pile-o-Gifts" giveaways.

It makes me happy to see others happy, specially at my own expense, and I've never regretted coming across this.

This truly is what made 2011 the best I've ever lived, and I don't think anything will surpass this for a very long time. Or at least I can wish so... ^_^

    70. I first discoverd the fandom on TvTropes, from there and Wiki I found out about the whole 'It's a kids show that grown men watch', from there my curiosity got the better of me and I watched the first two episodes. Not convinced from this first encounter, I waited a week until I left high school and decided to give the show one last chance with episodes 3 and 4. All I can say is that it was the best decision of my life, destroying my depression and giving me renewed faith in humanity which I had lost many years ago. This show is truly a beacon in the sea of the world's ills

    71. I noticed that a lot of people were using MLP avatars throughout the web and thought it was some kind of ironic/joking Internet meme. So I Googled "why my little pony avatars?" and found a topic on The Escapist forum that explained everything. After that, I really wanted to check out the show. When I came to my senses and remembered that the show was supposed to be for little girls, I was like, "Nooo! What's happening to me?!"

And then a few days went by and I sat down to watch it... and the rest is is history. ;D

      VastaKustuta
    72. Since others are doing it, I'll throw mine in since I don't think I've done it anywhere yet.

I think I saw hints of the show from pretty early on, but didn't think too much of it at the time: I didn't know there was a new show, and thought some MLP enthusiast was drawing in that style, or something like that.. like I said, I didn't see much.

But, eventually, in March, I began seeing a bit too much to be one person, with repeat characters that looked.. recognisable! I had to figure this out.

I somehow stumbled my way to EqD, which was still in the early stages at the time (it was less than a month old at the time, I think,) and through it I found my way to other fan sites and the show itself. So I decided to give it a chance; I didn't have high hopes, but I'm not a cynical enough person to think shit of it after seeing so much devotion towards it already.

I'm not a very emotional person, by any stretch of the imagination, but I watched the first episode.. then, simply watched the second.. then I had a quandry on my hands.

I don't hate this. I felt NO disgust. And I MUST figured it out. By the following day I had watched the other 17 or so episodes that were out at the time, and it has spiralled out of control. I don't know when I started calling myself a brony. I may have done it as soon as I learned the word.. I do think I was in a bit of denial for awhile like many others, but I never truly tried to fight my interest in the show. It just took me awhile before the inertia of my well suppressed emotions hit me.

Today I have well over 10,000 images, hundreds of Youtube rips, and hundreds of MP3s.. the folders are meticulously organised, but due to the sheer size of content there is always a huge "disorganised" folder floating around.

I've stopped trying to follow everything I can, because it rather quickly became a bit much just to keep up with the content EqD spits out with my free time. I have a large fanfic reading list of things I'm just not finding the time for.. and I keep a record of all the ones I liked, with a link to their respective EqD pages, in case I ever want to re-read, or share.

And that's my story of how I became a brony.

      VastaKustuta
    73. Cupcakes got me into ponies. I loved the fact that the fans didn't exclude other concepts like horror. The fact that just about every type of genre was showing up in the fan fics made me decide I have to see the source material. After the first 4 episodes I decided that I loved the show and the fact that certain episodes had moments that made me tear up meant that this show was more than just a comercial for toys. It had a real story to tell about real personalities that had real problems. Then the community showed me that we don't have to mistreat each other and bash everyone. It was weird to see so many people being nice to each other for no reason other than they were happy and wanted others to be happy. This show and community is very much like a drug but I really don't see that much negative other than the fact that people that don't get it take a very negative stance toward us. My wife hates this so much that she actually wants it banned from the house. I just don't understand all the hate for something so full of love.

    74. I discovered the show in April, two days before "A Bird in the Hoof" first aired.

I actually stumbled across the show on TVTropes. While throwing my life away browsing the site, I found a bunch of pages linking to the show's trope page, figured "what the heck," and looked the show up.

After learning how many guys were watching the show, I got curious and looked up the first episode on YouTube. I didn't watch it at first; I was so nervous about watching a girl's show I just left the search page up for about two hours before I was brave enough to start the video.

I watched every episode available in two days. Then I found the "Pony Polka" PMV, clicked the link about Weird Al, and found Equestria Daily. That was my real introduction to the community at large, and the rest is history.

      VastaKustuta
    75. It all started with KnowYourMeme. I was browing the site and suddenly stumbled across MLP. Being the open-minded guy that I am I let my curiosity get the better of me and decided to read up on the article. I impulsively clicked on the YouTube embeds that were in the article and the rest is history.

I also managed to introduce MLP to a good friend of mine as well, and we've been following the series since then. I didn't realize how huge the community was until a month ago where I found out about Equestria Daily after bombarding my mind with PMVs, YouTube poop and general ponies. I'll write a story with my own OC ponies when I get the chance and I hope to see what everyone thinks about it.

    76. It's kind of hard to explain to other people (especially adults) why someone my age would like FiM. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell I would explain it to my parents if they ever caught me watching an episode.

Just FYI, my parents think Family Guy and South Park are "baby cartoons". So...yeah...ain't no way in hell I could explain ponies lol.

I would just have to say "watch it and you'll see". Probably the best I could do.

    80. My story: My brother was studying abroad and during a skype conversation he mentioned this new cartoon that he'd been watching. He showed me a picture and talked well about its character development, color and lightheartedness. Then he showed me a chart showing the steps of becoming a fan of the show "Learn of its existence > Curiosity > Watch a Piece > Denial > Appreciation > Fan". Sure enough I honored his request to watch at least the first episode...little did I know it was a two parter. After the second part I was skeptical and unsure if I really wanted to continue. Soon enough I found myself watching three episodes at a time until I had watched all on youtube and was waiting for episode 25. I have since converted one of my friends, my sister and her friends along with exposing a few other people I know.

    81. Okay, here's how it went down.

Step 1: A guy on my forums started using image macros involving Rainbow Sash. My curiosity was piqued, since the pony was drawn very like the Powerpuff Girls.

Step 2: I was on KnowYourMeme and somehow stumbled upon the page for FiM, where I learned about the bizarre phenomenon. Not long after, I watched the two part pilot. It was pretty good, but I wasn't sure I wanted to continue watching.

Step 3: Curiosity got the better of me, and I started watching episodes listed on TV Tropes' 'Accidental Nightmare Fuel' page. I watched all the episodes on there, and found I couldn't stop myself.

And that's how Equestria made me a brony.

      VastaKustuta
    82. I watched the Starcraft II trailer done with ponies, saw it when it was posted on Halolz.com.

And I thought "you know, this show can't actually be that epic." So I started watching it the next week, just to see what the fuss was about.

How very, very wrong I was, and how very glad I am that I was wrong.

    83. Get this, I actually almost became a brony back in October of 2010, when it first started. A coworker and really good friend of mine told me it wasn't that bad at all, but I still blew it off and never checked it. Then, in August earlier this year, I decided I'd try out an episode. Turns out, I was on episode 8 or 9 before I knew it.

      VastaKustuta
    84. I found out about it oddly enough because of the "guiles theme fits with everything" meme. I watched the guile versions of giggle at the ghosties and the sonic rainboom but didn't feel the need to watch the show until the webcomic vgcats had posted a related comic and some links to some pmvs, so I decided to watch the first episode and by the time I watched Applebuck Season I knew I was hooked. I watched up until ep 24 and was glad to find out the season wasn't over yet and got into looking at fanworks here on EQD between episodes and the drought.

    85. I was working over the summer at a warehouse, and I became acquainted with a co-worker of mine. He lived nearby but still too far to walk during breaks and I had a car, so I offered to give him a life back to his house a few times, and he taught me more about memes.

This was in June. He showed me things like Joseph Decreux (the archaic rapper), some art he had made, and 4chan (scary, scary place). Turns out he frequents /b/, and he pulls up this folder with dozens of shurgging pony icons. He tells me about the show and asks where I've been if I hadn't heard about it yet.

That night I sat down at my computer after getting home from work after visiting my girlfriend (I got back around midnight) and I did a google search for KnowYourMeme.com. I found the My Little Pony article (which had been trending the entire time) and I read all of it. I learned all about the history of the show, and then I saw the embedded first episode...

I clicked play and it started playing the opening storybook sequence. I, being open and all, thought it interesting albeit somewhat odd (especially when the narrator said "ponydom"). Then the theme song came on with the standard start and the not so standard rest of it. I got hooked and watched as this show that used to be only for little girls pulled me close and said, "watch me! You won't regret it!"

I marathoned the first 8 episodes that night, 9 the next night, and finished the rest of the season by Thursday night of that week. I eventually became an art-contributing, forum-posting, synchtube-viewing, chatroom-chatting brony.

I told my girlfriend about it a month later, and she was weirded out, but finally gave it a shot too. We marathoned all 26 episodes together in one day. She's not a brony, but enjoys the show very much and even likes to sing the songs together with me (especially Giggle at the Ghostie)

      TL;DR
-Early June introduced to the show
      -late June became a Brony
-early August introduced girlfriend to show, and she approves

    86. I had seen a few images pop up on my Facebook over a few months time from FiM and never paid much mind to them. Even the YouTube clips I never clicked on because .. ya know .. who cared?

But it wasn't until my friend Marissa posted a clip named "Dumb rock!" that I decided to take a look. And there was Rarity, getting pulled by her unicorn, smack into a rock. Deciding to give the show a try (after I found the clip rather funny) I watched the first episode. And we all know what happens after watching the first episode.

So, I suppose I blame Rarity.

    87. A buddy of mine post a video from MLPFIM on facebook. Admittedly, it was funny, but I told him right then and there I would never convert. Several weeks later I had my wisdom teeth out and was quite bored-so I watched the first episode to give it a chance. Truthfully-I didn't like the first episode, it seemed...forced. But then, many first episodes of a series are as they have to introduce everything to the viewer-so I gave the next few episodes a shot and enjoyed it. My family blames the pain meds for my liking of the show and my buddy still can't believe I caved!

      VastaKustuta
    88. A rather good online friend of mine started watching the show and apparently became a brony. I poked a little fun at him (weird, I'm the female here), and he eventually showed me Doctor Whooves and some Doctor Whooves fanfic. Here I am, about three months later, with my boyfriend a recently converted brony, my best friends (a handful of about, oh... 15 guys) being bronies now, my 6'something" 240 lb. MMA fighter brother being a brony, and myself settled into a nice group of college friends who are bronies.

I went into this thinking I'd be in a female-dominated fandom for once (this coming from a girl who plays D&D and Magic: The Gathering on a regular basis). There are only about three other girls I know who are dedicated bronies, and none of them can even compare to my brother, my boyfriend, and myself. It's hilarious.

Life as one of the few female bronies is good.

Haha, that's fairly close to my story as well ^_^ I had seen pony stuff around, but never really noticed it or thought to ask. That changed on April 18th when VGCats put up that comic and the PMV's which I decided to watch. Jumping from video to video, I found out about Derpy Hooves and decided to watch that episode with the first intentional derp. It's now six months later; and despite how long it took to really creep up on me, I can still count myself among the bronies.

Oh, and looking back, I can totally imagine my past self believing something like this could happen. I'm a weird guy XD

    90. My little brother would bug me until I played an episode for him. I avoided Friendship is Magic until June, when I was forced to watch an episode with him. I hated it until I watched a few episodes on my own, and slowly but surely became the brony I am today.

      VastaKustuta
    91. @Aragrist

I'll keep that in mind; I did recently get a Creative Zen mp3 player (on cheap refurbished; I would love an iPad, but I've been broke for a couple years due to college,) and already have the first season on there (the second episode of season 2 isn't encoding right.) And I do have a Kindle e-reader loaded with some favourites, though my issue is more time and college schoolwork than being able to take it on the go.

And, there's one more thing I wanted to add to my earlier post: I've even thought about the characters a lot, so if nopony minds me plugging, I have a Tumblr post where I detail major trends done with characters in the fanbase: http://purpletrauma.tumblr.com/post/11217264868/prevalent-themes-of-characters-in-my-little-pony

I've been updating it bit by bit as I think of better ways to describe something, or another thing I think belongs in the article that didn't strike me until later.

I think that suitably sums up how much I've gotten into this.. about as much as describing the depth of my MLP folders. Perhaps even better, since this is showing instead of telling.

    92. I found out about ponies just a few months ago. I was browsing the net like i usually do and noticed overtime that i kept seeing ponies posted just about everywhere. I didn't really take any interest at first but the more i saw the more i became curious. Saw a few fan pics and thought they were "cool" and decided to attempt to watch the first episode. I barely got passed the intro when i decided that it wasn't something for me.

A few weeks later my brother starts spamming me on steam about how awesome ponies were. He kept telling me to watch the show and so I finally decided to give it another chance since if my brother liked it it couldn't be that bad. Ended up watching the entire first season that same day.

      VastaKustuta
    93. My story is somewhat of a Rarity ( pardon the pun). Unlike most other bronies I was unaware of the random and memes that MLP Fim had. I suppose my story starts un october of last year when I first heard that MLP was going to be on the hub. When I first watched the promos I thought that the show would be just for little girls. Around december for the hub villains event I first saw nightmare moon. Then I was determines to see the full two part first episode but kept missing the second part. So I started watching it at 5am or whenever it came on in Arizona. Basically I saw the majority of the show before seeing part 2of but by then I was in love with the show.

      VastaKustuta
    94. I found out about from the VG-cats webcomic (which is HILARIOUS, btw). I was aware of the old series but thought very poorly of it. One day, Scott (the comic author) post a quite funny pony related comic featuring the CMC and Pinkie, and he also posted some pony related links. Sadly the comic is no longer available- anti-ponies made him take it down. I watched with mild confusion and then forgot about the incident. A few weeks ago when starting Uni a guy I met mentioned the show in passing, and I remembered the comic. My curiousity peaked, I searched it on Youtube thinking 'Just one episode, to see what all the fuss it about.'

And now a few weeks later I have pony wallpapers, tons of pony remixes on my ipod, read pony fanfiction, and I'm eagerly awaiting this saturday.

    96. Mine is a rather simple story. I first started seeing MLP stuff on Memebase, really thought nothing of it other than that the pictures were cute. But it seemed like everyday more and more ponies were popping up on Memebase so I decided to see what it was all about. The first episode I watched was Sonic Rainboom, and at the time I thought it was alright, nothing too great. Then my brother started telling me about MLP, how much he loved it (specifically Rarity), how funny it was, and how great the animation was. So I decided to watch a few more episodes and BAM, I got hooked. Once I watched all the episodes it didn't take long for me to go looking for fanart and such and the rest is history...I'm a brony...although don't tell my roommates that :D

      VastaKustuta
    97. Heh. I knew about the whole craze for months via lurking 4chan and art sites, but never thought I'd want to watch the show, even though I knew I would probably like it because I've always liked things that seemed rather odd for my age/gender. Finally on a very boring day in late May, on a whim I ripped the pilot eps off YouTube and watched them in secret. Thought E1 was very bland at first, though charming in its own way, but with "It was under EEEEE-EEEEE!" in E2, I fell in love with the show. By Applebuck Season I was hooked, and I'd seen every episode by the next afternoon.

    98. there was i, around november 2010, pacing by the dwellings of my cozy home, when i turn on my laptop, and i was watching the updates on youtube, suddenly i saw; an user that i used to admire for his YTpoops, favorited a video called "ponycraft 2" and i said "he? ponys? no way!" so i daw the video and... i liked it even better than the original trailer, and i got some ideas about the show that i realize later that they were wrong, but nothing passed.
later i saw the same user favorited a video called "friendship is magnets" i said again what? but i saw the video thinking it was a youtube poop, and it was. after that i fell in love with the pony ytp's and i started watching more (except iduckfilms ones bcus those suck) at that point was unnevitable to give a try to the show. at the beggining i didn't like it (i watched 3 episodes) acctually but then, i started to feel the need of watching it again and i started to love it, and i watched now all the episodes that were released by the date (until over a barrel)

    99. OK, let's see...

May: started seeing numerous pictures with ponies on DeviantArt. I checked info about the cartoon, but still remained sceptic.

June/July: Started watching the show and instantly took a liking to it. It had this "something" that modern cartoons lack and what made classic ones, like TMNT, awesome.

August/September: I've begun thinking about doing a Polish fandub of the show.
Started writing my first pony fanfic, and made several "select screens" for game parodies.

      October: Been to a Ponymeet.

    100. I came to this whole ridiculous thing through the AV Club, which I know isn't the most popular site on here. I had no idea about the memes, the show, any of it. But there are a bunch of gimmick posters on the AV Club who have their respective schticks, and one gimmick poster is Fluttershy.

And I figured someone was posting as a timid cartoon pony, whatever. But it gradually dawned on me that a lot of the snarky, predominantly late-twenties, film & music snobs:

      a) knew she was from My Little Pony , and
      b) Knew stuff about My Little Pony, making jokes about cutie marks and stuff.

And then I noticed that the character design, unlike the dead-eyed, blank-smiling ponies from my childhood, was adorable, and pretty funny. Even though it was a 50x50 still pic, there was a lot of character to it.

So I type 'Fluttershy' into youtube. And then, after awakening from a diabetic coma, I watched an episode, Suited for Success.

I don't know if other people have had this, but I was amazed at how hard it was to sit through the intro credits. I'm open to most stuff, but that song, the "My little pony, my little pony..." drilled straight through my conscious brain into this primal, childhood revulsion, like the five-year old me was screaming "DUDE! WHAT ARE YOU WATCHING? TURN IT OFF!"

I nearly just closed the window. And then the white unicorn starts singing! And she's singing a happy song about dresses! I actually had to mute it. But something... something about it was awesome. When the second part of the song came on, I didn't mute it. And then I stopped watching anything but MLP:FIM for a while.

And now, my favourite episodes are the ones about pretty pretty dresses, and Fluttershy and Rarity chatting in a spa is pretty much as good as tv gets for me, so my five year old self can probably just deal with it.

    102. May for me. Noticed pony pics appearing on one of the image sites I was visiting, then found EqD after seeing the name in the comments thread.

Very nearly hit the back button (so bright, can't see...!), but noticed the Fallout Equestria cover art and went there instead. Read the summary, thought it sounded odd enough to have a look.

I think I was hooked after the first two paragraphs, but it wasn't until a few chapters later that I realized I'd have to watch a couple of episodes to understand the story fully.

Turns out that multicolor ponies are a bit like crack.

    103. I became a brony before it was really mainstream. A friend of mine told me about it in a class at school. I was, of course, skeptical at first. But I decided "sure, what the hell. Better than schoolwork." At this point I had no idea there was even a fanbase. I thought it was just my friend (who IS pretty strange) being funny. So I pulled out my laptop, and proceeded to watch episode one. As soon as I started watching, I liked it. I found the concept of Nightmare moon immensely awesome. The show made me laugh, and I legitimately enjoyed watching it. I watched as many episodes as were out at the time. For the next week or two, I proceeded to tell all my friends about it. "Hey, Watch this. Its awesome." One of my friends liked it, and after a few days of being a fan, he found Ponibooru. Yes. Ponibooru was how I was introduced to the fanbase. I found that I LOVED the fan art, the comics, etc. ( not the porn though. BLEH. And, so. for the next 4 months or so, I contented myself with going through image boards ad finding as much pony content as I could. But, eventually, just fan art can get a bit boring, so I was starting to drift away from MLP. But month or so ago, the same friend that showed me ponibooru introduced me to Equestria Daily. I am now REALLY addicted to fanfiction. And from Equestria Daily I found an even bigger fanbase than I knew existed. I am now a full on brony :)

    104. It's simple really. It was summer, and I had too much time on my hands. Memebase, which I had started browsing constantly because I had too much time on my hands, had just launched My Little Brony.
      My initial reaction?
      Pfffft! Trollers be trolling.
And after having browsed ALL the memes, the only thing left was My Little Brony.
The sayings and anectodes from the show puzzled me, and I wanted to know about them. And three days later, I had finished Season One. Now, I gobble up everything pony, and make pony things of my own.

And that's how bronies are made.

      VastaKustuta
    105. That video was great!

As for my story - I was checking KnowYourMeme one day and saw that the monthly summary included the new pony meme. I said "WAT" and read about it on the entry page. "Okay, that's weird."

Fast forward a week. "I guess I'll watch the first episode to see what the fuss is about." Enter cliffhanger. "I can't stop now! On to episode 2!" Epic ending. Chills. Instant brony. I marathonned the entire existing season in a couple days, waited impatiently for the last several episodes every week, and never looked back.

    106. I got into MLP around June or July I think. I had heard of MLP being big on the internet but I thought it was just a passing meme.

One day, a person who does YTPs I'm subscribed to (cs188) uploaded an MLP YTP. I watched it, found it funny, then continued with my day.

For some reason though, I found myself wanting to watch it again on the following days, so I did, and watched it several times over even after it stopped being funny. Then I came across other YTPs of MLP, mainly by Dikekike, and watched those.

I found them funny, but for some reason also wanted to know what was actually happening in the episodes used. Eventually I came across the episodes in related videos. Due to wanting to know what is going on in the clips used in YTPs, and being curious about what caused this meme to be a lot bigger than I originally thought it was, I watched the first episode. It was a two parter, so I had to watch the second episode too. I found them both to be not bad, nor as cheesy as I was expecting, but I still didn't understan why it was so popular.

I figured that since the two first episodes were the pilot episodes, I would watch the 3rd episode in order to see if it changed at all and to see if I could find what caused it to have such a large amount of fans. I still didn't find an answer, so I decided to watch the 4th episode. Then the 5th episode. Then the 6th. The 7th, the 8th, the 9th, and before I knew it I had seen all 26 episodes, my interest in watching them no longer being scientific investigation but just plain being very interested in seeing the next episode.

So thats how I got into MLP. I only started calling myself a brony within the last 2 or 3 weeks though - I got round to reading Cupcakes (which I found funny instead of disturbing) which then led me to reading other proper fan fics. I now visit Equestria Daily . . daily, so I suppose I must be a brony now.

    107. Insane lurker. All of a sudden, ponies everywhere.
Mainly attracted because of amazing art and an overabundance of exploitable images.
      Actually watched it, loved it.

    108. I saw a thread about it on a forum I frequent. A week or two later I checked out the thread, Thought it was funny and then a month later I checked out the show. I've been hooked ever since then.

    109. Oh how I love stories...

So. After a short hiatus from Memebase (time for exams) I stumbled upon news of a possible new section on Memebase dedicated to pony memes. I was like "Aaaaaah, nostalgia...wait a minute, ponies? what da fawq is going on?" then I pushed to to the back of my mind, never to be seen (thought of?) again, or so I thought.

After a while, they actually put up the new section, I was like "waaaaaaaaat" then I started browsing the new section purely out of curiosity. I liked the art, the gifs and the cuteness, It reminded me so much about Spongebob, which is one of my dearest childhood memories (I still watch some of it to this day) but I didn't get much of the pony memes, so I felt compelled to did a little background check on KnowYourMeme.

I was stunned, and happy, since I now have something to do during the holidays. There was even a video about the new pony fad ruling the Interwebz, this was the catalyst for part of what I am now, I watched all 26 episodes in a period of 24 hours, I was stupid and should have saved it up.

Afterwards I gave up learning game design, graphic design and art, and programming, and started catching up to the times and the hourly content on EqD, I even discovered 2 other bronies in my school, and managed to lure one of my few friends (*cough* Brunei *cough* small country *cough*)
past the Event Horizon. Then, I once again took up the Mouse, Keyboard, Pencil and Paper, to hone my skills and possibly create my own pony content.

That's about it up to now.

      VastaKustuta
    110. Well I also ended up watching MLP.
The first way i got in cantact with that show was, when some poeple on twitter changed their avatars to MLP characters and i was like: "W00t?! Why are they changing their avas to ponys?". I didn´t realy cared about the show after that, I just noticed it was starting to get ab big meme and I thought it would be so popular, because people make fun of it or something. One day I asked my best firend why the hell people are freaking out at this show so much and he told me, that it was the biggest meme EVER and I should give it a try. So I watched the first episode and when the voice over started telling the story of nightmare moon I was llike: "Oh come on people seriously?! Elements of harmony and ponys raising sun and moon?". For some reason I kept watching and when the themesong started I thought it was typical for a girly show, but than the rock part started and I LOVED it! So I thought "Ok the starting wasn´t THAT good, but maybe the story will develope". After watching the first episode I realy liked the english synchro (Im from Germany and the german synchro is pretty bad compared to the original :/ ) and I thought every episode would be how they chase Luna and in the end track her down, but as they defeated her at the end of episode 2 I was curious about the next episode. At that moment I started to like the show without realy noticing it. I went on watching the episodes and at least I was really addicted to it and I love(d) EVERYTHING about the show! The animation have such a high rate of detail´(hair whip when they move etc), the voice actors are SOOO GOOOD,the personality of everypony (I really like AJ slang). This show has SUCH a high quality, I mean in episode 22, where Fluttershy tkes care of Philomena, Rainbow Dash actually WHISPERS something like "You should tickel them" and not like in other cartoons some nonesense. So all in all I love the show with all of my heart, I even started to play the theme song on guitar and I can´t waite to watch more episodes of season two.

So that was my story how I became a brony! ^^

    117. Figured I'd be seeing numerous short stories here after you said to drop your stories into the comments. Didn't we do this back in September already? ;) Well, I suppose that asked -when- you joined, not -how- you joined. Though most seemed to cover both.

Well, here's pretty much my same response from the last one.

I was among some of the very earliest fans I suppose. How I initially found out about it was someone I know on the show mentioned it to me early on. I was rather skeptical at first, but decided I'd give it a shot at least. Then dislike it and never speak of it again of course. ;) I grew up watching the first generation of My Little Pony when I was very little, but I knew that the latest generations such as three were less-than-stellar. So I was thinking this would probably be along the same lines. I tuned in for the season one premiere with much doubt. I watched that first episode, and let me tell you, I wanted to see more. I knew good animation when I saw it and I noticed it had much better animation than most children's programming. The humor was another big thing I liked about the show. It was genuinely pretty funny to watch. It only took that first episode for me to fall for the show. As I watched more episodes as they aired, I came to love the show even more. I was around when it was first posted on /co/. I was also around when Ponychan and Equestria Daily here first made their debuts onto the scene. I've witnessed a lot happen in the community since then. Seems like we've come such a long way in such a short period of time. But I've never looked back and I'm happy to be apart of such an awesome community.

      So yeah, awesome stuff. :)

    118. I was browsing Memebase (on the Cheezburger Network) and one week had a plethora of My Little Pony memes. I first thought "WTF is this doing here?" and tried to ignore it.

Then suddenly Know Your Meme was FULL of pony stuff, which was starting to bother me because I did my best to ignore crap like that, but this iteration of the ponies seemed to draw me towards those memes, mainly because I didn't get the jokes, which bothered me.

Once the Cheezburger Network made the My Little Brony site, I thought "Oh f*** masculinity. I need to see why this show's so popular."

Now I've seen every episode up to this point.
I'm a brony and I'm proud of it.

    121. I did not know about this newest installment of My Little Pony until sometime during spring this year. It wasn't until I received an email that had a link to a YouTube video where the picture was the title with the Mane 6, Spike, and Princess Celestia, and the audio was of Bill Clinton answering questions about the show.

I did not know at the time that this was something new, so I just disregarded it as Bill being silly and moved on.

Later, received another email with a video called INGLORIOUS PONIES (not sure). I watched it, then decided to see what I could find out about this.

Searched for it on Know Your Meme, and browsed through some of the memes they had on the subject. I read Cupcakes...

...then I found the show on YouTube, downloaded it, watched every episode, went meh, moved on.

Watched it again the next day, went /)^3^(\, and circled back to Know Your Meme where I continued to lurk. Eventually, I decided that I was a brony, and I realize that this has helped me out of depression and really just brings me to a calm, cool, collected (or happy) state.

      That's it. I'm a brony. FOREVEEEEEER!
      Everypony keep on keeping on!

    122. Ashamed to admit that I first heard of bronies and the entire fandom on Funnyjunk, I didn't really think much of it at first, I later saw the mega-pony-thread on Minecraftforum, it had a list of all the episodes, I decided I'd watch one, I (for some un-known reason) Picked The Best Night ever, which had just come out a few days ago.
I can't really remember how I felt about bronies going into it, I'm pretty sure I was just neutral on the subject, I don't even remember thinking it was weird that adult men liked ponies.
I'm pretty young, at least, on the younger side of bronies, so I didn't really "grow up" with the older generations of ponies, I had heard of My Little Pony and didn't really care much about it, I never even watched the old generations, disregarding them as girl's shows (As they should be).
Anyway, that's pretty much it, I got started late and heard about it first on Funnyjunk.

      VastaKustuta

    124. I became a brony on September 12th, 2011, which is fairly late into it. A friend of mine actually got me hooked on it, and I'm very grateful for the link that he sent me. I basically lived off of that show, desperately trying to finish all 26 episodes of season 1 before the premiere of season 2. I didn't quite make that deadline, but I still managed to watch all the major ones. I have never watched a series that fast - 26 episodes in 2 weeks, on top of being a college freshman. It hasn't quite reached the level of my obsession with Doctor Who, but it is very close.

      VastaKustuta
    125. Saw 'Guile's theme goes with everything - Sonic Rainboom' on HALOLZ, thought that for something like ponies it looked remarkably well done and interesting, and so when I had nothing better to do i watched the pilot. And then every single other episode, often at the expense of sleep. And then millions of fan videos and content. And then read fanfiction...so much fanfiction. It just goes on from there...

      VastaKustuta
    126. Eh, if we're doing this. My first exposure to the show was Ponycraft 2. I thought they were just being ironic, putting a stupid show to Starcraft audio. Several months went by, and then one of the web comics I read occasionally posted a comic about ponies. In the news section, they mentioned that the show was also good. I stared at that sentence for about five minutes, going "Wait...wait...are you serious? Are you serious? ...wait....no.....nooo. Wait..." Finally, I said 'screw it' and looked up the first episode on youtube. I watched the little storybook prologue and thought "Huh, well that wasn't bad." And then the theme song came on. I watched the entire thing with my mouth agape in horror, and then closed the window.

I didn't give the show another thought for days. Finally, something nagging in the back of my mind forced me to go back. I thought "Fine, I'll just watch this stupid crap episode so I can know how stupid it is and how stupid that guy is for liking it." I grit my teeth and endured the opening, and then the rest of it. Honestly, the pilot episodes didn't grab me. The only part of them that stood out was Fluttershy's introduction, to which I responded "Wait....ohmygoodness what is...heart? Heart! Don't you dare d'aaww on me. You're too jaded for this. Don't you do it!" Regardless, I watched the second episode as well, just to see how it ended. It was ok, but I was prepared to let the whole thing go.

Then I told my roommate what I had done, and that the show wasn't bad. Out of morbid curiosity, he agreed to watch the first episode. Then he watched the second episode on his own. And then the third episode. When he told me he'd watched another episode, I gave him a look like "Dude...why?" But he convinced me to watch the third episode. That episode actually turned out to be the hook for me. In Ticket Master, Twilight suddenly finds herself in a position of having something very valuable to everypony else, and, as I'm watching, I'm expecting Twilight to totally trip balls on her newfound power and extort her friends, then learn a lesson about not being a douche, and yadda yadda yadda. But Twilight was actually reluctant to use her power on anyone, and was, in fact, extremely put off when others started offering favors themselves. And I thought "Huh...didn't see that one coming. What a refreshingly different character." I just sort of kept watching episodes after that. I don't know when I got properly hooked. All I know is that I realized it when I finished watching Winter Wrap Up, and I wanted to hear the song again. I was actually humming it on my way to class.

      VastaKustuta
    127. Well, I could tell my story, it would be long like many others here, but I don't know if I should since I doubt anyone will ever read it, or for that matter, the majority of them.

    128. I swear, when I was twelve, I would have been so embarrassed for people to know I watched MLP. they act more like they're 15 now. Anyway, I became a brony (filly) before I knew about the fandom. I had been watching it for about a month, maybe two, when a friend told me about Equestria Daily, and here I am now.

      VastaKustuta
    129. I honestly didn't even know of bronies, or that there were others like me, until a few months ago. I suppose I was a brony from the very beggining, if you can believe it. It was a full year ago, on October 10th, that the first episode aired. I have a niece, who I have taken care of since she was born, and when I heard they were basically rebooting the old show, I felt that I should sit down and watch it with her, so I could see how it had evolved over the years. I was always forced to watch it with my sisters when I was younger, but things change, so I gave it a chance... I fell for this show, hard. I kept my new obsession secret until recently, when a friend called me out on it. Now, I've turned other friends on to it, and even though they aren't as into it as me, this show makes me happy, and that's all that matters.

    135. In late August, I wasCartoon Over Analyzation Journal where there's a collection of Pony articles. I was like "what the f*** My Little Pony?" and just ignored those articles. Eventually I watched the Pony physics presentation and decided to check out the Know Your Meme page on MLP. I saw the episode and was like "Hmm, I guess I'll watch just the first one to get the jokes about it".

About halfway through, I found it kind of funny but I didn't really want to watch another episode. And then the scene where Twilight Sparkle met Fluttershy happened. I found it so funny and cute I was hooked. A week and a half later I had watched the whole first season, which I coincidentally finished the day before season 2. I told my brother about it and was like "haha people watch MLP" to hide that I watched it. Later we were watching tv and decided to watch "Suited for Success" on OnDemand. He was hooked. 137. More detail:

May: Downloaded HJU Radio ep 19 (for the W movie bit) and listened to the Pony segment thinking "These guys are insane". Found myself listening to it again and again for some reason.

July: Went to Malaysia and listened to that podcast more and more.

August: Came back and decided "Why the hell not". Saw the first 5 minutes on Youtube and my modem died. I freaked out cause I was liking the show and proceeded to download the entire first season the very next day (at work). Three episodes a day for the next week and a bit. Immersed myself in the community and read whatever I could. Found Equestria Daily.

September: Watched the first 2 eps of season 2 (as we all did) and felt the gears turning in my brain for a fic (not posted here cause it doesn't follow the rules). Started writing said fic and posted it to fanfiction.net(again, at work. Good thing my boss thinks I'm actually typing things for work). Fic turned out to be a prequel to my main fic (Rangers of Equestria) which other fics have spun off from. Watched Kamen Rider Fourze and laughed my ass off about the friendship thing.

October: Still writing and reading and converting most of my friends. Saw the most recent episode of Fourze and laughed my ass off when I saw the Unicorn Zodiarts.

    138. Brony origin story? OK.

I actually got into the show through my favorite show of all time: Animaniacs. My word, I love that show, even if I never saw it when it was on TV. Anyway, I'd seen a word here and there about the show. I thought "OK, maybe I'll check this out," but hadn't gotten around to it. And I probably wouldn't have, but then Sherri Stoner praised it on her Facebook page back in May. Sherri Stoner was a producer and major writer on the show, as well as the voice of Slappy Squirrel. This woman KNOWS good cartoons. So, I looked it up on YouTube.

I finished the season in three days. About a week after that, I found Equestria Daily. I've been checking stuff out ever since.

I had to take a break at Winter Wrap-Up because I am not a fan of musical numbers but I toughed through that and finished (and downloaded) the series. Now I need to get all my friends to watch it. I've gotten 3 guys, 2 girls and have 2 other girls who refuse to watch it. One because of principle and the other because she doesn't "want it to ruin the old stuff." I am still trying to get them though :)

    145. Am I the only one who became a Brony because I read Cupcakes? The link to it popped up in the comment sections for two pony memes on memebase way back in March. I was curious as to what the memes were about so I read the story, which raised more questions than answers. Looking through more comments I found out the name of the show and argued with myself about watching it for a few days. Finally, on April first, I watched the first two episodes, and buy Sunday I was finished with the available episodes and I had found Ponychan and, of course, here. I got into fanfiction because of SlyWit's story 'One Problem Child' which introduced me to the term shipping as well. Since then the only notable thing I did for the community is help convince memebase to create the Brony site by becoming well known during the memebase wars, which used up my 15 minutes of fame and earned me the nickname 'Mr. Love and Tolerance' due to me never really arguing, just advocating freedom of opinion and not making a decision without learning all the facts, aka watching the episodes. That is really all there is to know about the Brony side of me I'm afraid, but the rest of me is more interesting anyway.

    146. Oh boy.

      September 11, 2011

My friend tells me he watches MLP and that he can't wait for Season 2 on the 17th. I tell him he's crazy, and think nothing of it.

      Sepetember 17, 2011

I remember what my friend had said, so I decide to check out the Season 2 opener. My little sister and her friend were there too. We watched the Season 2 opener where Discord traps them in labyrinth. I didn't really get what was going on, and why the "purple one" was so confused at what was going on with the other ones. I say at the end of the episode, "That was pretty good!" My little sister says, "You liked it? I thought it was stupid!" Since I didn't know when Part 2 was coming out, I left the show alone for a while.

      September 28, 2011

I was playing TF2 on a Saxton Hale server. Earlier that day, I made my first spray a picture of "the pink one" smiling with the text, "U Mad?" above it. I admit it, I trolled the server by saying stuff like, "Bronies FTW" only having watched one episode. I then decided to watch more of the show.

      October 1-2, 2011

Starting with Season 2 Episode 1 Part 2, then going to Season 1 episode 1, I watched the whole series in one weekend. I was hooked.

      October 7-12, 2011

I thank my friend for introducing me to this fandom, and I am proud to be a brony. This is the first realy fandom I have been in, so it's gone well.

    148. @Hio590 Brony of color here dude. I've told my story many times on this site but I don't mind telling it again. It basically all started in December on the 4playerpodcast forums where I am a moderator.

Someone posted a PMV in a thread saying that the show was one of the best around. I proceeded to dissmiss it and didn't even watch it.

Fast forward to February I see people talking about ponies on snafu-comics with a thread about it. Once again I didn't click it didn't look at it. Later that day I ask why there was so much attention given to MLP. I was then encouraged to watch an episode. And after a few times of opening and closing the first episode I manned up and watched it. As I unintentionally marathoned the 15 episodes show(at the time). I kept questioning myself. "This is for girls, you shouldn't watch this." But I couldn't deny that I liked the show. I then searched for fanart the quality of which impressed me. That led me to searching for fics which lead me here to EQD in February as well.

Proceeded to make a MLP thread in the forums where I'm a mod at and have gotten others into the show.

    149. it all started when i my sis was watching the hub one morning and i walked by the tv, they were showing a tv a show ive never seen before. my little pony friendship is magic, it was episode 7 "dragonshy" (i guess it was last november cuz it was a while back and that was when that episode premiered) and for some reason i instantly liked the animation style so i stayed there to watch it (i didnt know why it was so interesting but it was) from that point on i began watching mlp stuff on youtube, i was fascinated by DJ P0n-3 she was my first favorite character from the series (even tho she wasnt even a main character) i kept my interest for my little pony on a down low (i thought i was embarrassing) until my friend made a brony group on facebook (i didnt even know he was a brony) so i decided to join, the first thing that seriously turned me into a brony was when he shared the video "ponies the anthology" with me, it was amazing, i now even wake up early saturday mornings to watch my little pony! im even working on my first fan fiction. so thats pretty much how i became the brony i am today, so yeah that's my testimony, i can keep on going getting into detail with what i do as a brony, but i am much to lazy and i need to get back to my homework lol

      VastaKustuta
    150. I was randomly watching the "Guile Theme Goes with Everything" videos, and the Sonic Rainboom was on the related section. I clicked it and thought the animation and art style was good. Then I searched it on Wikipedia and found out that Lauren Faust was the executive producer. So being a fan her and people she was involved with that worked on shows like PPG, Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Foster's Home.. I just had to give it a shot and here I am since May 2011 :)

      VastaKustuta
    151. Was there on 4chan when it overflowed from /co/ to /b/. Put it off for a while, until I realized it was Lauren Frost. I watched half the first season before I got my 5 year old daughter into it. Wife is still baffled.

      VastaKustuta
    152. My sister is four and it became her favorite show. At first I was just like " this is ok, it's the best of all the shows she watches" then some time around late may, early June, maybe even earlier I realized how good it is. I started watching it secretly at night on my iPod (confound those ponies they drive me to insomnia)and after school since it was recorded on tv for my sister. Over early summer I watched them all in order and also started learning more about bronies and looking on this site. In late summer, I decided to tell my family and my friends. I have enjoyed watching the show since.

    153. I can't recall the details of my Brony Origin, but I do remember that the first reference I ever saw was when Dan Shive framed his making-of/editorial for an EGS strip as a letter to Princess Celestia. Because El Goonish Shive, and by implication Dan himself, is delightfully bizarre, I don't think any of the non-brony bunnies (yes, EGS fans call themselves bunnies. We're a weird bunch.) even blinked. I certainly didn't check MLP:FiM out for a month at least. Whenever I saw a pony reference I went "Hey it's those Ponies Dan likes! I really should check that out some time". I eventually did, and here we are.

    154. MYCUTIEMARKISAGUN'S PERHAPS UNSETTLING BUT HONEST TO GOD TRUE 'HOW I GOT INTO FIM STORY':

Saw the incredulous-but-glowing AV Club review in February. Couldn't believe it. Shrugged it off.

      *SIX MONTHS LATER*

I was browsing TVTropes as all The Cool Kids do. You know how it is - clicking from trope to trope, getting lost in it all.

      Well,

I floated over to the "Cruelty Rich Leather" trope page. Or as its called now, "Genuine Human Hide". I think I was more curious about the Real Life examples more than anything - I knew about Ed Gein and the Nazi lampshades; didn't know about the Romans and Aztecs indulging in it. (although really, The Aztecs? kinda unsurprising amirite?)

      SO ANYWHO....

Eventually the "Fan Fiction" section of the article caught my eye.....

Cupcakes: Pinkie Pie wears the cutie marks of all the ponies she tortured and killed.

I'm like "Cupcakes? Pinkie Pie? Ponies? The fuck? What is this?"

      Clicked on "Cupcakes".....

AND THAT'S HOW EQUESTRIA WAS MADE!

      VastaKustuta
    155. @DrahcirAloer

      YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Hell, I don't even watch the show. I just gradually burned through each episode once so I could understand the context behind all these fanfics. IMHO Season 2 will blow S1 away when its all said and done, watch.

Now Fallout Equestria? That....that pretty much took over my life the last 2 weeks of August. Took. Over. My. Life. Shit was outta control lol.

      VastaKustuta
    156. Like most Bronies, curiosity got the better of me. Wanted some context to all the memes flying around. Took a risk with google and BAM! Found EqD and all of its pony goodness. Thank you Google, you helped show me the way, and something that wasn't just porn.

And I've been lurking this site for almost four hours a day every day for the past three months. Reading and viewing almost everything and doing my best to help the fandom grow.

      Ponies make me happeh.

      VastaKustuta
    157. @mycutiemarkisagun
I watch the show, Cupcakes just led me to it. However, fanfics do dominate the majority of my time on the internet. I am on here at least twice daily if not more often.

      VastaKustuta
    158. I actually watched the first two episodes just for the heck of it - things like this intrigue me, and I'm a huge fan of McCracken's work, which Faust of course had been a part of. While I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't another crappy show for kids because there are way too many of them these days, I had no intentions of watching more. It wasn't until someone told me to go and watch episode 4 that I got hooked on the series.

...also, ED may have had a bit to do with it. The brony community's amazing, and it's one of the few online communities that I'm proud to be a part of.

      VastaKustuta
    159. I'll admit it, I'm a Summerfag...

/g/ to be specific. I got bored and decided to help out on 4chan's technology boards with Android development. Whenever I started an Android programming thread I'd always get at least 2 pony image responses.

Finally, after a month of this I asked one of them what the hell it was all about. they told me and at first I was like "the show my little sister watches?"

all I can say is thank god for Sprint 4G and my Epic 4G cause I then watched 2 episodes a night on my phone while lying in bed with my earphones on to make sure no one could hear me. this went on for 12 days, but after the first night I was hooked. Nightmare Moon is such a badflank.

Anyway, I really didn't consider myself a brony till I started going on the MLP:FiM Minecraft server brohoof.com. after finally realizing how cool you all were and finding out about EQD on there I transferred my bronydom to Google Plus where I now have 1200 in my bronies circles.

I've already contacted 5 other bronies I know at my school and now hang out with them more often, in addition I'm in the process of ponifying one of my friends who is a massive redditor.

All in all what really made me go apeshit for the show was all the fan made content being released like the drawfriends, PMV's, Ponified movie trailers, and fics. Especially Past Sins and Cupcakes (is it weird that I found Cupcakes more humorous than grimdark-as-fuck?)

I thank god every day that this fandom has been created and I hope I can remain a part of it into the far future.

      VastaKustuta
    160. As cliche as it is, I have to blame my little sister. She only a year and a 1/2 at the time, but none the less my mother started to record the show for her. So one lazy afternoon when there was nothing on I decided to give it a try. I was captivated, their personalities reminded me about the greatest qualities of human nature. Though my manlyhood protested, my heart cried for another trip to Ponyville. After a few days I caved and began to watch the series on youtube. It was amazing, I hoped the episodes would never end. That's my story, Hi I'm Jacob and I'm proud to be a Brony! :D

    161. Dayum,so many comments. My story? Wellthere I was, 1 month ago,( well more than that) in 8th grade, chatting wih ma buddies, who have been converting peopleto bronyness since 6th grade, chatting away and my best friend mentioned it. My first thought?meh screw it. Then:what's the worst that could happen? Two hours later, came episode one. The first 30 seconds and the theme song had me hooked.before I knew it, I was a brony. Months Later,I find that my friends were about to start trying to convert me to brony status.I laughed in their faces. Then I told them that I had 3 episodes left, and left them with open mouths. Then I got home, changed my tf2 spray to a flutterspy spray ( yes flutterSPY),and found a my little pony tf2 server. I love my life, and I love.Being.A.Brony.
HEAR ME MY PEOPLE,LET US CONVERT THE ONE WHO DO NOT KNOW JOY AND PRAISE THE ONES WHO DO. THE BRONY SUBCULTURE WILL LIVE ON. AND IF HASBRO EVEN THINKS OF DISCONTINUING THE SERIES, THEN REMEMBER TO SPAM THEIR INBOX WITH MAIL, TELLING THEM THAT WE ARE A SUBCÚŁTÛRĘ.BRONIES FOREVER.<3

    162. My 19-year-old brother heard about it off of /b/ on 4chan, and told me. We thought it was so ridiculous! I mean what male teen in their right mind would watch a show about ponies? Anyway, he and I watched the first episode just to see what the fuss was about, and we were instantly converted, and welcomed to the herd :3 We couldn't even put up a proper fight against the ponies xD

      http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/164625-my-little-pony-fim-all-pony-related-things-go-here/
read through it a little and got curious as to what was going on.
May 30th, watched it for the first time and got addicted.
later that week i got my two closest friends to become bronies too, lol.

    164. Over the summer, I remember seeing lots of pony stuff, and having no idea why it was there. I decided I'd look it up and was like wow, why is this popular? I figured I'd watch the show, and BAM! Brony :-)

    165. It was July of 2011. I was surfing Youtube for new music to listen to while i drew. I couldn't find anything new and interesting, so i decided to switch to Night of (K)nights. Then, in the related videos...I saw something that caught my eyes. Night of Pony. At first, I was skeptical....then after listening(watching) it, it amazed me! I never realized it could be so...so...Magical (tried thinking of a different word, but it works.) that very same day, I searched out the first episode. that day (and well into the morning) I watched every episode in one sitting. The Music, The Animation. The PINKIE PIE! (My favorite pony). It was all....magical. (again, it works). This show has earned a permanent place in my heart, and I do constantly find myself idly sketching ponies from time to time. and I have, indeed, learned a lot about friendship. Now, 3 months later, I quote from the show (Okie-Doki-Loki!), sing the songs (Giggle at the Ghosties and Hop, Skip, and A Jump are the most sung), and watch the episodes over again in some drawing-down-time (on episode 23 again). i look forward to Season 2, and can't WAIT for all the Magical Friendship Adventures!

    168. Here's My story.
One day, I was on the minecraft forums, when I saw a post related to ponies. I opened it up, and read up on it. I decided not to watch a episode. Then, A spell later, JayIsGames posted My Little Pony: Friendship is magic, Story of the Blanks. Reading the comments, I saw it was scary, And did not play it. And then, ShoopDaGUHH posted Lost Fortressing, which had Fluttershy as one of the sources. So I went back to the post on MCF, and watched episode 6. and then episode 1. and 2. and then the entirety of season 1.
HOLD ON! that's not the end of my tale. I went back to the post, and saw in the related links EDQ. So I went to HERE, and read the blog for a while. (now, for some context, my opinion of a brony is someone who has read a fanfic.)So, one day, I saw Kindness's Reward ( a Fluxie shipping fic by AveryStrange) and read it. That is my story.

      VastaKustuta
    169. I was just chillin' one day, surfin' teh youtubes, when I came across some of Zeurel's work (specifically, Poontah!). I went to his channel and found the MLF2 PMV he made. Then I saw the linked original vid, so I watched that. I thought, "what is this pony silliness??"
So I went and typed "My Little Pony" in the searchbar and found the episodes.
I watched the first ep with growing scepticism and at its conclusion decided that it wasn't for me, but I wanted to see how they beat NMM. After the next ep I was a little intrigued by the characters, so I gave the third one a try. A few eps later...

      -I'm watching with eager interest
-I'm searching MLP on Know Your Meme
-I'm considering getting myself checked out to see if there's something wrong with me

A few hours later, I finished all of Season 1 and proceeded to watch every pmv and pony-related youtube vid I could find. A few days later... I wound up here and decided that I had officially "joined the herd."

So there you have it. Thank you for everything, Zeurel! Poontah! is awesome and so are ponies.

    173. to be honest, i first learnt about it from Memebase....

      VastaKustuta
    174. Whelp, here's how it all went down.

Some time in late May, I was on lurking 4chan, when on a whim I decided to visit /co/. I soon found a pony thread about how great the show was, among other things (r34, flaming about who's best pony, ect.)I didn't really care much about it, and went on for a so without any thought on the matter.

Then after a while, I decided to see what was on Memebase, and I find pony memes. So I googled it, and found that lots of male teens and adults watched the show, so I decided to check it out.

From the moment I saw the mane 6 unite with their elements to vanquish Nightmare, and Luna and Celestia hugged (manly tears were shed), I instantly fell in love with the show, and soon with it's fandom. I eventually found out about EQD, Ponychan, Ponibooru, and all the other sites on the ponynet.

Ever since, ponies have ruled my life, and I have recruited at least 6 other bronies to join our quest for the spreading of friendship. I have read more fanfic than I would like to admit, and actually took up drawing because of the show (and have actually gotten quite good at it).

      So yup, that's about it!

      VastaKustuta
    175. Well, it all started when my friends from work started becoming bronies. Initially I made fun of them for liking a show for girls. I went home after work was over and secretly went to bronies.memebase.com to do some late night trolling. Finding out I knew not how to troll on bronies with any effectiveness, I went to Know Your Meme to figure out what made bronies tick. I promptly spent my night studying the subculture.

I was intrigued at everything that had been made, so I texted my friends from work about it and they said to just watch the show and find out for myself. I promptly mass texted a Challenge Accepted and went off to Youtube.

Normally I am into cartoons and the like, and having heard that it was done by the same creator that had made Powerpuff Girls made me very curious. So I watched the first three episodes and before I knew it, I was hooked. I spent the next two days disregarding college and acquiring ponies. I loved every minute.

Not only has MLP brought me closer to my friends and coworkers (even my boss is a brony), but it's rekindled my love for writing. I had previously given up on writing due to a lack of inspiration, but now with ponies in my life, I cannot write enough. 28 episodes and 74 pages (and still counting) into my first fiction and I just...can't...stop...writing. I love that this TV show can inspire such artistic creativity from members of the fandom, and it's this fandom that keeps me going. I love all of you, keep doing what you're doing! I'm Kyle and I'm a brony.

P.S. ALL HAIL THE LUNAR REPUBLIC!!

      VastaKustuta
    176. I've just gotta say that I love this. Sometimes I feel weird about my genuine love for the show, mainly when my family and friends make fun of me for watching a show about ponies. It's just nice to see people talk about it and actually see them. There's just something, I don't know, refreshing and relieving about it. Actually about to shed real tears right now because of this, everypony. I love you all so much :')

      VastaKustuta
    177. Someone linked me rainbow knight and then I watched the rainbow dash version of You'll go far kid, then I watched sonic rainboom and then the rest of the episodes. Been addicted since confound these ponies :P also Dash is best pony

      VastaKustuta
    178. How I became a brony?

I'm a moderator on a fairly active forum (~2500 active users), and about in... December/January a fair number of the moderators switched over to having pony avatars. Piqued my interest.... and cliche story from there on out.

      VastaKustuta
    179. I was on deviantart, and there are pony art everywhere. I wondered about this, then I wrote a journal and watched the G1 movie first for nostalgia.

Then I watched MLP:FiM and I was hooked. I love cartoons andit reminded me of some Powerpuff Girls/Sailor Moon thing with ponies.

      VastaKustuta
    180. I only became a brony a couple of weeks ago...

A friend of mine had been watching it far longer then me and kept recommending it. I was hesitant, it WAS MLP after all, not my cup of tea.

Finally I cracked and said I'd watch the first episode, more to just put my own curiosity to bed.

One episode led to 2. Then 3...Then 6...Then the entire first season...

And now I'm here, reading fanfiction, eagerly awaiting the new episodes and just generally doing what bronies do :P Cheers to SGTmarksman332 on youtube for luring me into watching it :P

      VastaKustuta
    181. If someone told me a month ago I would be hooked on a show about colorful ponies aimed at little girls, I would be laughing at him/her till doomsday. I'm not much of a forums guy, but being a Kingdom Hearts fan, I decided to peek around some KH forums a few weeks ago since I had nothing else to do. I noticed many members with MLP:FiM avatars and signatures. I was thinking: internet meme? Few days later, I was watching an episode of Family Guy when the Trololo guy appeared all of a sudden, which seemed kind of odd since it's been about a year since I've watched the video. So I wondered if something new happened with the Trololo guy. I decided to do some research on him, ended up on the Know Your Meme website, and found something related to MLP:FiM. So I checked it out, learned all about bronies and the show's popularity with males in their 20s and 30s, and couldn't believe such a thing was happening. I watched Know Your Meme's video talking about MLP:FiM then a Downfall Hitler video video on youtube where Hitler iniitially refuses to watch the show, then becomes a hardcore brony after watching it. One big question in my head was: "Is this girly pony show THAT good?" I decided to watch the intro theme song, but that drove me insane for two days. I decided to give the show another try, only this time, I muted the theme song. Watching the first episode, I said "Wow, not bad for a girly pony shoe." So I moderately enjoyed watching episode after episode. But it wasn't until watching "Feeliing Pinkie Keen" that I, a male 20 year old college student, finally became a brony, and loved everything MLP:FiM, even the theme song! Thank you Lauren Faust and everyone else involved!

    182. I'm a brony from the 80's cause of my younger sister so yeah not to mention she had ponies and I had to have Transformer's and He-Man and all those other 80's toys *misses the My little pony figuringe's*

      VastaKustuta
    183. I became a brony several months back in March. At the time, I wasn't exactly miserable, but life was kind of dull. One day, while reading a bunch of comments on Kotaku, I noticed people talking about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Curious, I decided to watch a few episodes to see if it was any good at all.

It's not my only source of happiness (my relationship with Jesus is my main one), but it's a genuinely fun and entertaining show.

      VastaKustuta
    184. My bro had mentioned it to me before, but my first thought was, "Ugh hideous show from the 80s lives again." I was feeling super tired, and didn't feel up to going to get food-and on Valentines Day too- so my brother came over to my apt and brought me some pony episodes on a USB stick. He also brought me a McDonald's kids meal: it had a Twilight Sparkle in it! We watched the first 2 episodes together and I've been a Brony ever since =D

    185. I was doing a lot of support for Arab democracy movements in my free time. I started following a guy making insightful comments on Twitter, who started publishing a newsletter with someone with a Pinkie Pie avatar. Google image search led me to a couple of threads on forums I frequented long ago. I decided to check it out since I'm an open minded enough guy. I read enough before watching episode 1 that I was expecting it to be ok-ish but with some weird appeal to the immature or furries or saccharine lovers or something creating most of the noise around it. After finishing the pilot, I upgraded my opinion to "good," but I still expected that a half dozen episodes would probably be enough as it is with most good kids' shows for me. Applebuck Season was the point where I knew I was going to watch all of it, specifically the whole trophy scene.

These days I post lots of detailed episode commentary, watch the population trends at places like EqD and Youtube (yes, supergeeky), and watch most of the well reviewed PMVs. I see a bit of the art and music but there's honestly too much stuff to keep up with. I want to try reading something like Fallout Equestria that I've heard a lot of people rave about but I'm already so busy. Ponies got me into anime via anime podcasters who also reviewed ponies, and I've been plowing through lots of the best reviewed classics.

Still do not have anyone to discuss the show with in real life though. I've told friends the series is pretty fun the couple of times it's come up, but nobody seems to actually bother actually watching an episode other than a few coworkers who just did not get it. My family thought Wall-E was boring after I dragged them out to it and laughed at me for watching some weird Japanese cartoon called Cowboy Bebop so I'm not even gonna mention it to them.

    186. I guess it's
      *Shtory time!*

One of my best friends and I surf the internet just for the lulz. Memebase, tumblr and reddit are our usual sites. That is, until pony memes started showing up around May. We talked about them and thought (cue Gilda's voice) "Ponies? Lame!"

      Some time later...

It was a rainy afternoon of June at my school. Last days of the semester and I was coding the last bits of my final test, when my friend pops up in messenger:

      - I really can't believe it.
      - What?
      - I... looked at the first 4 episodes.
      - ...and?
      - (Me Gusta)
      - Oh really? I don't believe you.
      - Yarly. Try them then.
      - (Challenge Accepted)

And so, as my code was compiling, first episode came in. Then, the second. Then the third. And finally, Applebuck Season and all the Applejack derps came along.

      Later that night...

      (Me) - FFFFUUUU
      - XD
      what happened?
      - it's...
      just... just....
      (Me Gusta)

Later on, I found out about the fandom. My previous experience with the furry fandom told me there were going to be fucked-up things (like 34, clopfics and bad fanfics). But there are more good ones than bad ones (or at least I want to think so). I've read a few so far, but those are really awesome, and many many artists do their best to describe such wonderful creatures as our Little Ponies.

Also, the memetic usage of many catchphrases (FOREVERRRRR, 20% cooler, confound these ponies) are a strong point for them to stand out from the crowd of the regular cartoons we see on TV.

So yeah. My brain is full of pony since July. /)^3^(\

    187. My Story is Simple: I became a Brony in the spring of 2011. Just near the time Exams were about to take place at my High School. At first, I was skeptical about the show, since it was well known before a Girl's Show...

But then I watched it...and suddenly...I thought to myself..."Why the hell do I like this so much?" Why did I suddenly enjoy these ponies? I didn't know, and I didn't care. I enjoyed it.

However, knowing my family, I had to keep it a secret, like anyone would with NSFW things. But, eventually, I couldn't hide it anymore...so I let it slip...I let it slip slowly, and only to my closest friends...and then, I made not one, but TWO confessions on Facebook about it.

Did I have any regrets? Hell, no.

So I have one letter to Celestia-Nay! To everyone of Equestria, including Lauren Faust herself:

      "Dear Equestria,

Thank you. Thank you for exposing me to this wonderful world of yours...you showed me so much that I'm glad I found this...I found a community of wholesome and kind ponies, where no matter what, I have friends...and Friendship truly is Magic.

      Your Faithful Viewer,
      AdamTheHedgehog."

    188. I guess my first introduction to FiM started back around the time the trailers for StarCraft 2 were coming out. This was the first time I saw the video PonyCraft 2 as well. It was mostly my love for SC that had me intrigued. Then, a few months ago, I saw the video where that student gives a presentation on the impossible physics of the show, frequently citing how awesome it was and that's why he chose it. However, a few weeks ago a video entitled "Ponies: The Anthology" showed up on my suggested video list and I was curious as to why somebody would post a 20 minute long video of ponies. It was downright hilarious and was again amazed, the facial expressions were hilarious, the memes fantastic, and the fan base incredibly eccentric (in a good way).

    189. Well...My adventure started when I saw a pony meme on the memebase, so I said, "What the heck, I'll give it a shot." Now I'm hooked...

    191. It was for 12 year olds? Really? Because I felt it was more for the nine group...even as I watched it, being 13, it felt pretty...um...for younger than me.

    192. My story? heh. It's kind of funny how such a simple show changed my and my friends lives so much. I actually started the fandom in my school.

I've given my somewhat socially awkward pal something we can both discuss. Iv'e made the most hard-ass redneck girl in my class go giddy when I mention the name "Applejack" and the annoying little squirt who used to claim that I was a pedo for watching this is now writing fan-fics. And me? It cleared my chronic depression. I haven't had a very bad day since I started to like these ponies.

I made a risky move recently and decided to give my informational speech in speech class on the show. I was a nervous wreck, but everyone in the class loved the tounge-in-cheek humor throughout it, and some even said that they were going to watch it.

Confound these ponies. They drive me to have a better life.

    193. I found Alex S' dupstep mix of CMC. I was listening to it all day and night for a few days, then my friend come to our house. We asked ourselves: We seriously listaning a mix of a cartoon meant for little girls? OMG, we must be sick.. Let's become even more sick.. Then we watched the original CMC song with a clip, and realized: OH MY.. THAT'S NOT THAT BAD! Oh My.. I.. Like it....... I can't believe!! Found a couple of comments mentioning the word: Brony
Googled on it, and realized im not the only male who like it... Then i found Everypony, spend a month with listening pony mixes and chatting with bronies.. Then I found HunBrony, EquestriaDaily... Since that moment i feel myself at home with you, guys..Love You, My Bronies ^^
Now i own 3 figures from the mane 6, checking every single post, my HDD has over 80Gigs of Ponies, my phone is full of ponies..
