There are just two days away from the big revealing of Luna's true personality! Knowing the FiM team, her characterization will be epic, but for the sake of fun, what do YOU want her personality type to be like? We have seen numerous renditions of the princess of the moon, from lonely outcast, to a prankster that would rival even the Great and Powerful Pinkie Pie. The possibilities really are endless.
Discussion time!

Adorable!
ReplyDeleteHappy. For goodness sake, please be happy.
ReplyDeleteI kind of expect her to be quiet, being the night she would be a little reserved wouldn't she?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Luna as a playful, scheming, mischievous little prankster.
ReplyDeletenone. i never understood the luna love.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for pranky, happy, carefree Luna.
ReplyDeleteNot shyluna. That is all
ReplyDelete40% twilight, 40% fluttershy 10%dash 10%Rarity
ReplyDeleteI have no expectations
ReplyDeleteTherefore i am not diasspointed
20% cooler than the fandom...and curious
ReplyDeleteNothing really.
ReplyDeletePlease please please please please please PLEASE be a prankster
ReplyDeletethough, based on her past, I would expect her to be a bit shy and a loner. and maybe a bit attached to her sister.
ReplyDeleteI expect nothing but the Spanish Inquisition.
ReplyDeleteHopefully shy but pranky, quiet but fun. And, obviously, ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteI hope for her to be kinda shy, kind, and not big on being called princess. I can't wait for the new episode though, as soon as I see it I can start my Luna story. :)
ReplyDeleteWait... will abacus be in this episode?
ReplyDeleteI expect something similar to Celestia's benevolent ruler persona. I hope I'm wrong, though. Benevolent rulers are boring.
ReplyDeleteIm hoping she'll be a sort of contrast to Celestia but anythings fine
ReplyDeleteI want her personality to be whatever the writers desire.
ReplyDeleteShy and quiet, and just getting to know her subjects. Hopefully this won't be a one-time appearance!
ReplyDeletei never have expectations. Years of Sonic games have taught me what expectations do to you. I'll be ready for whoever Luna turns out to be.
ReplyDeleteThe way Studio B intended.
ReplyDeleteStill shy, and remorseful for what has happened, but hopeful as well. I am soooo happy with the look of her, I just hope I'll be even happier with her personality.
ReplyDeleteI think Luna will be a mix between Fluttershy and Applejack. That's the best description I could think of.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that she'll be very gracious like Celestia, but perhaps a bit more approachable and casual in her mannerisms.
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe just a wee bit of a troll.
I'm expecting a shy Luna. She did stay quiet during the whole harboring lots of jealousy phase...until she finally snapped of course.
ReplyDeletei'm expecting a slightly eccentric quiet sort.
ReplyDeletesocks puppets would be a plus, but i doubt it'll happen.
I have none or assume the worst. So if they don't mess her up pleasantly surprised. Bit bleak, but hey thats cynicism for yah :P
ReplyDeleteMysterious Expectations
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. I'm honestly trying to keep my expectations blank, because it will be how the creators portray her.
ReplyDeleteAll I know for certain is that this upcoming episode makes me both excited and nervous all at once. This episode is either going to be amazing, or fall flat on it's face. And a lot of it is going to do with how they handle Luna.
Oh right, ummm seth this is a really loaded question...
ReplyDeleteEither shy and reserved or prankster.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she'll be cute as hell any way they characterize her.
I want her to be mostly like Fluttershy but have some of Celestia's regality and sense of fun.
ReplyDeleteDon't care so long as it doesn't conflict with the Nightmare Moon thing. Most (but not all) personalities can get bitter and vengeful so that leaves a lot of possibilities.
ReplyDeleteBest case scenario: Something surprising but makes sense.
Worst case scenario: Happy go lucky airhead.
Personally? I like the more child-like representations, like the ones from the Happy Luna stories, particularly Sock Swap.
ReplyDeleteBut that's just what I like. What I expect? I don't really have expectations: I'm just happy and excited they're doing something with the character. I doubt they could do anything that would peeve me. Not given their track record of how they treat their characters.
Of course, the writers could solve the personality issue by giving her ALL PERSONALITIES! Make her bipolar to the extreme!
ReplyDelete...
That would be stupid, but hilarious.
i just hope we see the real Luna...and not her "playing a role" as whatever she dressed up as for Nightmare Night
ReplyDeletethat being said...i am fine with anything....except if they give her some stoopid "Valley Girl" speech pattern(Like, totally, ya know?)
A teenager. And all that may come of it.
ReplyDelete"Luna's day out" personality
ReplyDeleteAlso the best the best the best
A happy Luna would be nice to see!
ReplyDeleteI'd like her to be a combination of Twilight's intelligence and magic potency, Fluttershy's kindness and reserve, and then some unique, new character style. But the main thing for me is that we're finally getting a Luna episode!
ReplyDeleteSo long as she's not some spoiled rotten brat or a b**ch or just plain evil, I could probably live with it.
ReplyDeleteConsidering canonically Luna's personality is a pretty clean slate, I'm ready for whatever they throw at me. Since I don't have any expectations, there's no possible way for me to be disappointed. I get surprised, and no disappointment. Win win.
ReplyDeleteI think she will have a secret crush on Derpy Hooves and have a hard time expressing her feelings for her the entire episode, but then the twist will be Derpy is the one harboring feelings for Luna! Then they will both get a spin-off series in where Luna and Derpy become a kick-ass mail delivery duo. In each episode they will learn a lesson in the wonderful field of postal service and love. Oh, and Trixie could be the sassy comic relief character who has a wicked catch phrase.
ReplyDeleteWhoever she turns out to be will be fine with me. I hope she sings though. I also hope she has a party with Pinkie.
ReplyDeleteI want her to be however the writers of the show want her to be.
ReplyDeleteI just want luna to look pretty, cute, and have the same voice as in episode 2
ReplyDeleteAs long is Luna is happy, I'm happy.
ReplyDeleteTries to be regal and formal like Celestia, but a bit more shy and reserved. However, acting like Pinkie Pie (silliness) or Sweetie Belle (little sister) will slip through at times.
ReplyDeleteI feel that she is going to be very similar to Celestia, being caring to everyone, bringing out the moon all the time, and maybe she'll even be the one who asks Twilight for her report on her findings on friendship. At the same time, I think she might be a little more mischievous, as she is the younger sister after all and she obviously has more free time since she is back in ponyville. Overall, I think Luna might turn out to be very similar to a younger Celestia, but at the same time she is a bit more fun-loving at the same time.
ReplyDeleteAs of now, I expect nothing.
ReplyDeleteIf I learned anything from Halo Reach, it is to not expect ANYTHING.
I shall take what the good studio serves us.
I'll be happy with whatever the team at studio B decided to make her. I just want a cannon personality for her.
ReplyDelete@Lightning Delight
ReplyDeleteI had an interesting thought before on this matter... As Luna once wielded the Elements of Harmony with Celestia one can assume she had about half of them.
And if Nightmare Night is anything like Halloween it will focus on certain things that can easily be linked with Elements.
"Trick or treat" is essentially Laughter and Generosity, and the whole event has a rather large Magic thing to it as well...
So depending on the origins of the celebration in Equestria, those might actually be her personality traits.
And even as Nightmare Moon she fit those, if in a warped fashion. Trying to force Night on people so that they'll enjoy it is an insane form of Generosity after all. And she did Laugh a lot and her form and was warped with some sort of Magic that I personally assume originated from her.
Nightmare Moon may have been the result of simply messing with the wrong sort of Magic and not from outside influence at all.
I'm trying to keep few expectations so that I will be happy no matter what. I do want her to be cute and nice, but that's kind of a givin.
ReplyDeleteMy image of Luna was always as a contrast to Celestia.
ReplyDeleteWhile Celestia is out in the front, Luna is working the back room.
She's making sure everything runs smoothly while Celestia makes the sale.
She's probably OCD judging by the kind of work that would go into putting each individual star in the sky.
And I'd be she's actually slightly more powerful then Celestia magic wise.
After all, a Lunar Eclipse can block out the Sun.
Still after all that hard work she puts in to making a kingdom function almost indefinitely, and still no one appreciates what she did?
She'd get mad.
But now that she's back I'm thinking we're going to see alot less of the horses pulling locomotives stuff.
Only Expectation is she is remorseful about the whole NMM thing, otherwise it would be really hard to ruin her.
ReplyDeleteI think she'll be a hard drinking, cigar chomping, no-nonsense assassin with retractable adamantium claws in her wings, cybernetic implants which enable her to track heat signatures, a split personality, and an inclination to kick ass and take names. She'll ride into Ponyville on a motorcycle belching flames, wielding a machete and screaming bloody murder as she mows down a gang of zombies, which she hates, because they took the life of the woman she loved. Then she'll get the party started by giving the Mane 6 chemical burns and indoctrinating them into a seedy underground fighting ring to prepare them for battle with a race of buglike aliens disguised as Illuminati. It'll be great.
ReplyDeleteinb4 She's a bitch.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought of Luna as sort of quiet, a little shy maybe, but mischievous too. With a good sense of humour. But I'm not too invested in it, as long as they don't make her really annoying or obnoixious I can deal with it.
ReplyDeleteI think she will be like Celestia, though maybe not as serious. I'm also expecting her to be somewhat shy around everypony at first due to a feeling of guilt of her mistakes in the past and becoming NMM. Either way she's going to be awesome, and I'm just glad that she's making another appearance finally. I'm curious to see what the explanation will be as to why she hadn't shown up sooner...cause I'm sure one of the mane 6(probably Twilight) will ask.
ReplyDeleteAs long as she has an Abacus I'm happy :D
ReplyDeleteI expect Luna to be mischievous and be the mysterious type.
ReplyDeleteBased on what little we saw of her personality in episode 2, it seems that she will be very remorseful about the whole "Nightmare Moon incident", and worry that everypony will still see her as a villain. Perhaps it will be revealed that she has not appeared since episode 2 because she feels guilty and could not bear to face the public.
ReplyDeleteAnything cute would be nice. I'd be upset if she was completely crazy off the bat, but I don't think the writers would make that characterization mistake. She could be demure, mirthful, bold, or anything as long as it's cute or at least fitting for an immortal princess (so she'd better at least be fairly intelligent).
ReplyDeleteI image her in a way to be a lot like Twilight Sparkle -- bookish and a bit of a loner -- which is why Celestia took a special interest in her. I also had an idea that she'd be some kind of master mathematician, maybe the one who invented pony calculus over 1000 years ago but it was deemed 'an evil art' once she'd gone all Nightmare Moon and now most ponies shun advanced mathematics.
ReplyDeleteI'll accept her regardless. I love Luna.
ReplyDeletei don't have any idea, the thing that i am focusing is that most of the luna fans are going to de disappointed, no matter what or how well done is her.
ReplyDeleteand how lulzworthy is going to be that melodrama
She'll end up like Celestia and not show up much and we have to figure stuff out for ourselves.
ReplyDeleteEven though I know it's fan-service (and I do somewhat detest it) There better be an abacus.
And Luna better still be smaller than Celestia by at least a little bit, emphasizing that she is younger.
I hope she's all "Woe is me."
ReplyDeleteThat would be the best trolling ever by anything.
In all honesty, I'll be fine with whatever Luna is. I do expect her to be a bit shy and not very talkative. I think she'll get along well with Twilight.
None.
ReplyDeleteLuna can be fit into any role; she's kind of omnidiverse. :)
I've purposely avoided Luna Fanfics just for this. No expectations, no disapointments. Whatever we get, I'll more than likely be happy with.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see the personality that makes all the Luna fans rage.
ReplyDeleteTL:DR- The whole episode
I expect Luna will be a shy and adorkable fish out of water with lingering resentment towards her sister and an eye on ruling equestria, I also expect that she will be misunderstood due to her status as a scapegoat over history due to Celestia's manipulation of historical record. Also, she will have an abacus. I will expect nothing else and throw a fit if she doesn't fit the exact personality I described.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, I don't have any expectations but I hope no one takes it hard when their personal theory about Luna is shattered by canon.
Well... I guess I'll join in for the sake of fun. Somehow. :D
ReplyDeleteHmm. How to put this. Really, I love Luna whether she is portrayed as I would like her portrayed or not. There. That works. :)
Well, I love how she was handled in the Luna Vs series (but without abby; that was too cheesy).
ReplyDeleteI've always pictured her as quiet, intelligent, and playful.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd rather not get my hopes up.
Let's see, she wants to make her image better, but I assume that will be the conflict in the episode, she has a hard time doing so.
ReplyDeleteThis may be for various reasons.
Maybe she kind of is a bad seed.
I honestly don;t know.
I kind of disappointed that they change her hair but never less Luna is luna I hope she has sock that would make my week there being a new pony episode already made my day
ReplyDeleteWell I'm hoping for a Luna that fits the spirit of Nightmare Night. One that pranks and gives. Among other things.
ReplyDeleteHopefully one that isn't shy, and that's what gets her into trouble. I'm hoping that she has traits that other characters find scary, like a villain laugh.
She should be having a hard time proving that she's not like Nightmare Moon because in a lot of ways she is like her. She shouldn't be timid at all or afraid to act, but rather prone to going too far.
Sweet Celestia, this is like throwing a kid in a candy store and telling them they can have anything, but can only take one.
ReplyDeleteThere has been A LOT of good personality characterizations of Luna in the fandom.
To start with, I do hope they give her an adorable personality. A younger, (innocent) mentality, keep in mind you honestly could say she is equal to Celestia in power, just younger. To expand that, I do hope for a slip up with her power, something you'd never expect Celestia to do that she does.
Fish out of water, 1,000 years, a lot should have changed in the land from what she remembers.
As much as I don't like it, it should be there, regret over the whole Nightmare Moon thing. Not constant she's down in the dumps and depressed all the time, but the uncertainty considering what happened. Keep in mind, this could be wiped clean with the episode, it's dealt with then never seen again.
To be honest though, I've kept my expectations low for her characterization. She's my favorite character and I do want her to remain so.
I may end up eating my words, but I honestly think they would have to try really hard to mess up her character.
@Xain Russell
ReplyDeleteDitto my companion in crime. Now, back to the book fort! AWAAAAAAYYY!!
@ Corkscrew, so if Luna got Laughter, Generosity and Magic, that leaves Celestia with Honesty, Loyalty, and Kindness. So much for the Trollestia fans eh? XD But in all seriousness, I REALLY want to hear Luna refer to her sister as "Tia." I think my poor little heart would explode, but it'd be worth it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I do not want her to have an abacus. I never approved of that concept, so it really doesn't need to be done. xD I would LOVE it if they troll all of you guys by putting an abacus in the background of ONE scene with her.
ReplyDeletesocially awkward, hilariously so.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing very reserved
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me?
ReplyDeleteI have more expectations for this communities' reaction then her actual persona.
IT. WILL. BE.
FUCKING CLASSIC.
Alot of people have become too attached to "what they think should be" and forget she's had like....30 seconds of actual showtime in her non NMM form.
¿Really? ¿REALLY?
ReplyDeleteA discussion like this seems kinda pointless, Luna has existed ever since before WE started watching the show, and since then, we've only worked with lots of ideas from different authors and stick to the one we liked the most or simply one we made up.
I don't really have any expectations for her, she's a MLP FiM character, but one the fandom really feels identified with because we, in some ways, we built her image, and shaped it to our own liking. So the expectations of some parts of the fandom would be to be like they want her to be.
And I also don't know what to expect, and that's what i want, I want the show to surprise me with a new character. Whatever she is, I will like her becase she'll finally have a standard personality to work with.
This is gonna raise hell on saturday morning... I'll go get my s**tstorm coat
Similar to Celestia, but also the opposite.
ReplyDeleteLike Celestia, be powerful and wise, and always seem to be knowing far more then she lets on.
But while Celestia fits the cautious mother role, Luna can fit the sly "cool dad" type role of having some mischievousness that is harmless and fun.
and what exactly does everypony have against luna being shy?
ReplyDeleteI hope she will be the complete opposite of Celestia's canon personality.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, I'm hoping for Luna to be a G-rated version of R. Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket.
In other, other words, I'm hoping that she will be stern, exact, a stickler for protocol, and that she won't take any shit from anyone.
Not only would it be completely different from everyone else's expectations, not to mention it would be fucking awesome to see in a little girls' show, but it would fit her theme of darkness and night because she'd be the complete opposite of Celestia.
I like to think of her as lonely, fun-loving and wanting to fit in, but afraid of the consequences of messing up, which she does anyway from the looks of that first leaked screenshot dressed as the Sith Lord.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know what to expect honestly, but I'm sure whatever direction they go with it will be fine. No matter how she is presented, some people will probably have an adverse reaction to her, so there you go.
ReplyDelete@Superwaffle350
ReplyDeleteWell those do fit Celestia, don't they?
Nightmare Moon laughed and lied way more then Celestia ever has and appeared in what was really only one episode.
In fact Celestia has never once told an outright lie yet.
i just want to be surprised. lets see what they do. and what they do, imma draw IT!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have no expectations, just a single hope: Even if it's >implied in a subtle way, I just want Luna and Celestia to be shown as being frank with one another. You know, like siblings, rather than acting like royalty in each other's presence.
ReplyDeleteFor any other aspects beyond that, I have faith that the writers will give us an awesome Luna that fits the show as well as the rest of the cast.
Remember, Bronies... the team DOES NOT read fics (fan art, yes; fics, no). Anything you think may be a nod or homage to a fan story will be purely coincidental, and you'll have no one but yourself to blame for your own dashed expectations. ;-)
Troll Luna is best luna.
ReplyDeleteI have absolutely no expectations.
ReplyDeleteBut because the episode will be Halloween-themed... MAAAYYYYBE she's a bit mischievous?
Don't know. Don't care.
Besides, I'm still on SPOILER LOCKDOWN mode (and it's working so well I don't even pay attention to images in articles) because I want the FULL IMPACT of all things Episode 4 when they happen this Saturday.
I did that for Episode 3 and it worked tremendously well.
Happy, open to people, much like Celestia. However, she finds it harder to get the appreciation of her subjects (for obvious reasons), and doesn't know what she can do to get that appreciation.
ReplyDeleteThus, the plot.
Maybe I'm crazy, or not so concerned, but, whatever personality the studio will give her, I'll still be happy with it and welcome the canon.
ReplyDeleteIt's bad enough not to see her during Season 1, she could be a good character during season 1 and could be being more developed, even we could say that the reason to all the correspondence between Twi and Celestia could be used to teach Luna something... but well, all things are done, and fandom made their expectations. "At least we got chicken". =_=
As a fic writer, it's really stressing me out. Mostly because...
ReplyDelete1. I'm in the middle of writing a Luna/Celestia story
2. I have another REALLY GOOD idea for a Luna story
I'm really hesitant to keep writing until the episode comes out. However, I feel I already know what she'll be like. She's going to basically be Celestia, only more easily depressed. Maybe a bit inexperienced with how to deal with other ponies.
i don't really know... i just think she will be a bit awkward because she doesn't know what to do in certain situations because its been so long.
ReplyDeleteand although i love the new mane.... i hope it works out to something along the lines of it is only like that at night when she is at the height of her power. the new mane may be awesome, but the old mane had this scene-esque adorability that i could not describe.
Well Idk why everyone wants her to be a prankster I mean there doesn't seem to be any evidence to that end. I expect she might be like her sister only perhaps a little less regal and formal. but really Idk I just want to see lol I think it will be awesome no matter what even if she is slightly evil .
ReplyDeleteI expect her to be emo/goth.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, 1,000 years of depression and loneliness can cause damage to the mind.
For all we know, she might be another Twilight Psychle
I'm hoping she is a little more down to earth than Celestia while still being adorable. Also i really really hope she calls Celestia Tia cause that would be so cute.
ReplyDeleteConstantly brooding on top of buildings and stamping her hoof firmly down on crime in equestria while saying "I AM THE NIGHT!"
ReplyDeleteQuiet, cute, socially awkward. So basically one part Twilight, one part Fluttershy.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound too appealing to me, honestly.
Reading a lot of these comments, I've come upon a good piece of advice. At least I've taken it as a good piece of advice.
ReplyDeleteConsider this meeting Luna for the first time.
Better then thinking, "Will she be like fandom A, B, C or D?"
oh, btw, i would like Luna to have a strong personality, not to be shy, like shown in some fanfics i've read (come on, she have at least a thousand years) she is one of the rulers of Equestria, and she should be very good dealing with problems, know how to deal with ponies, etc.
ReplyDeletealso, maybe in this episode she stills thinking about equestria how it was 1000 years ago, and try things to make her public image better that would have worked a millenium ago, but now that things are no longer seem as they were in the past. Or she could have forgot all of the social things, who knows.
maybe she is a sociopath or something?
maybe she wants to take over Equestria?
maybe she is an expert troll and Celestia only trolls ponies to remind her how it was when luna was there?
Maybe Luna killed Celestia and now casted a transform spell and looks like celestia and already took over Equestria without any pony knowing it and the spell doesn't work in Nightmare Night, so that would explain why we didn't saw luna in the past episodes?
Maybe i am asking too much questions?
maybe all the grammar nazis are going to rage at my lame grammar?
Do I need to get some sleep?
I know it will never happen, but if they give her an Abacus, I will totally lose my shit!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of how Celestia's acts will be dictated by who she interacts with the most.
ReplyDeleteIf it's Twilight it'll mostly be cordial but I want to see her inteact with somepony like Pinkie or the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
I think part of the Luna-fascination also stems from the fact that she is a reformed villain that is returning to the show (at least, that's why she's interesting to me)That doesn't happen often in kids cartoons; the villain is usually defeated (killed, imprisoned, rendered useless etc...), or a returning villainous character.
ReplyDeleteAs for my "expectations"? I have made a point to keep my "expectation slate" pretty clean. I can't deny that I do have expectations, but I can say that I'm not hoping for a certain trait. I'm not hoping she'll be a prankster, or that she'll be filled with guilt, or anything like that. I'm just looking forward to seeing her canon-personality. I trust the creators of the show have done their best to make her a likeable character. I have yet to see a MLP character I didn't in some way like (even if I simply loved to hate them).
Can't wait for Saturday! :D
she will probably have a personality like a bit shy around new people because she's self concise about what she died a long time ago. but then she opens up and has a very mild and kind peronality.
ReplyDeleteUmm... Luna should be Luna?
ReplyDeleteIdk, all I saw of her was a few short, HNNNG-inducing seconds in S1E2. I'm just happy she's gonna finally get a personality...
Y'ALL SHOULD BE TOO!!! SHEESH, what is wrong with you ponies? Hasbro's finally giving us the real deal and you go and gripe about her not meeting your expectations?
Spoiled. That's what you are.
Sheesh... the things I shouldn't have to say, but I say 'em anyways...
i have no idea why, but i get the feeling her personality will be similar to twilight's.
ReplyDeleteI'm just excited to meet the real her for the first time! I honestly don't have any expectation for what her canonself will be, but at the same time the Luna we've made has become as much a part of our culture as all of the background ponies.
ReplyDeleteI don't want her to be emo or gothic.
ReplyDeleteThe night is gorgeous and beautiful, and I wouldn't mind if she were misunderstood, but I cannot stand it when she's portrayed as a freaking victim all the time.
"Oh poor wuna didn't do anything wrong it was all that corruption's fault or it was Celestia's fault for being MEEEEAN!!1!1"
Haha, no.
Misunderstood, maybe feeling guilty and determined to redeem herself, and of course with a sense of humor and grace, but everything else I mentioned, well you get the picture.
I'm not a huge fan of Luna personally but I am excited to see what her personality is really like.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion though is that what most people think of her which is, she may be a bit quiet/shy or reserved. I hope this is true because then she'll be really adorable but honestly, I don't care.
Pretty much the exact opposite to what the vocal minority wants. And some parts of the main fandom *shrugs* :P
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I'm keeping my reservations for her till the new episode.
I also do not get the fandom boner for her.
Doesn't matter, world ends tomorrow. loljk
ReplyDeleteAngsty teenager luna.
ReplyDeleteOr total socially awkward adorkable princess that unintentionally terrifies ponies.
@Nathaniel
ReplyDeleteThere's no evidence in any direction in particular, except her crying and saying she's sorry after one thousand years of being imprisoned on the moon with a warped mind.
I'm just hoping that she was never entirely different from Nightmare and that such traits always existed in her in some form.
That's why Sith Luna gives me hope.
I wanna just lean back and say, "Surprise me." That said, she's a princess, she's supposed to share in ruling Equestria as her sister's equal (or so I am led to believe), and she's "not fully grown." To that end, I would imagine her to be dutiful, yet fun-loving. I would place her as being a bit less serious than her sister and a little more prone to acting on a whim, though always at least trying to keep in mind her priorities.
ReplyDeleteI bet she's in Ponyville to make friends, starting with those six ponies who helped rescue her from herself.
Aww, Seth...
ReplyDeleteI'm not that powerful, you sweet talker you.
I'm expecting Luna to be as awkward as Twilight in the friend department. But that's my only expectation.
ReplyDeleteI'm expecting her to be sad and cutoff, but with a happy emotional mask on her.
ReplyDeleteI have no clue what to expect, So I shall expect the unexpected.
ReplyDeleteWhat I would LIKE is different than what I am sure to get, and this is as someone that studies in philosophy and stays up at night to revel in the beauty of it.
The Moon Goddess, bringer of the night, would be quiet, and still, yet regal and righteous. She would be beautiful and powerful and cunningly intelligent. A master of Mathematics being that she creates the night sky there would be a high understanding of order from chaos and math as a law of the universe.
However when it comes to things outside of her natural environment she would be slightly aloof in not being sure how to be or act in these moments or situations, Curious of what life is like for the average pony after 1,000 years of being away, and eager to prove herself to everyone that she is kind and just, and wants ponies to truly know her, and appreciate her for how difficult her mastery of the art of night is.
That is just my wishes though, anything can be possible in the episode.
im a little scared to answer but Luna is one of my favorites so i dont want to set myself up for disappointment
ReplyDeletehmm...i just want it to be satuurday morning alredy without strawbery shortcake
None. She's an awesome looking pony and all, but never seen enough of her to form an opinion. I know the fandom loves her to death, and no matter what happens, the airing of the new Luna episode is sure to break more than a few peoples hearts.
ReplyDeleteI always imagined Luna as Celestia's opposite.
ReplyDeleteA mischievous young alicorn, who has little regard for rules (Or at least as far as a princess can get away with). She wants to help other ponies, and can hear their wishes, but sometimes she has to break the rules to do it, as apposed to Celestia who helps other ponies by letting them stand on their own four legs and simply inconspicuously nudging them in the right direction.
@SIaanmeBlasphemy! Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
ReplyDeleteThe canon never really gave Luna any personality at all; practically nothing to hint at aside from a few seconds in season 1. (Even then that doesn't really point to anything).
ReplyDeleteThough considering the synopsis of the episode, I can hypothesise that she would be somewhat socially awkward, though Luna being naturally shy seems unlikely (AKA, near Fluttershy's likeness). After all, before the nightmare moon incident she was the powerful side ruler of Equestria.
One of my life's philosophies is to keep your expectations low, and you'll rarely be disappointed. The only expectations I have is that she'll end up making plenty of friends and being happy (besides being an idealistic kids' show, happy Luna is best Luna). I also expect her to be as wise as Celestia, since looks can be deceiving.
ReplyDeleteOhmygosh i hope her voice is fine too 0.0
ReplyDeleteI want Luna to be softspoken. To the point of almost rivaling Fluttershy. And I want her to have those adorable bangs, not magical star hair like Celly.
ReplyDelete@D. Shadows As awkward as Twilight, as expressive as Fluttershy, and with as large (but hidden) sense of humor as Pinkie Pie. And about 20% cooler than old memes.
i demand that luna is a mixture between celestia, twillight and fluttershy!
ReplyDeletebut most of all she has got to be happy! seriously with all the "free pony" boxes with a sad luna in it that have been occuring everywhere i could not stand to see luna sad for another second, if this episode doesn't have a damn happy luna at least by the end of it... *sob* i... i think i just might have to give up ponies :(
and considering all the time i spend reading fanfic then i would have ALOT of time on my hands to not know what to do... hmm, now that i think about it, what the hell did i spend my time on before MLP?... i have no clue whatsoever anymore oO
The lonely Luna likes to free her mind at night, at at at night.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. I never really got into the characterization of Luna that much. I would think, maybe, an overall nice person, straightforward, and to the point. Not mischievous like her sister, Trollestia. I sort of would like her to be a bit on the mysterious side, not as if she might still be bad or have a hidden agenda, but more like knowing important things that she's not planning on telling anyone anytime soon, until the time is right.
ReplyDeleteI... have no idea. Part of me wants to say that I just want her to be like she is in Progress, my personal favorite fandom interpretation of her, but the other part wants her to be surprising and unique...
ReplyDeleteI'm not too worried. She's pretty much guaranteed to be awesome no matter how they decide to characterize her. Just as long as she's not awful and obnoxious like, say, Gilda or Trixie. :P
Q: Why does Luna currently have a bad reputation?
ReplyDeleteA: She is unintentionally terrifying.
Done.
I see her as coming across a little aloof, due to some archaic mannerisims she's held on to from force of habit, and at least a prankster to equal celestia. Particular scene of interest would be her hearing pinkie's song about nightmare night, and playing the part as she slips in behind her. jsut for the look on her face when she turns around.
ReplyDeleteDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
ReplyDeleteI expect her to be kind hearted, somewhat shy, possibly mischievous and cunning but socially awkward and her efforts to find friends will horribly backfire in her face. However at the end of the night, in a moment of despair, just about ready to go Nightmare moon or turn to crushing despair, some odd circumstance occurs that shows her true noble colours to Ponyville and causes the populace to finally embrace their co-ruler.
ReplyDeleteI really don't hope they make her out to be a strong ruler, like Princess Celestia. She shouldn't be the perfected ideal pony the Celestia is made out to be. She should be just as her past suggests, what any person would be suffer having endured years of loneliness but with a spark of genuine hope that things might finally turn around for the better.
im expecting anything really. i learned that expectations leave you dissapointed in the end most of the time.im sure ill love luna's personality when it's revealed.
ReplyDeleteIn my head, Luna is a more internal, mysterious personality, with an affinity for "scary" nocturnal creatures that other ponies would be afraid of. In my head she's more a girl of action than of words. An artist, a musician. Instead of "socially awkward", I still see Luna as being more "cool" than Celestia.
ReplyDeleteBut hey, I'll be okay with whatever they've got.
@thattagenYES. FUCKING YES. I cannot thank you enough for agreeing with me on this. Again, a G-rated R. Lee Ermey would be AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteI'll be happy with anything to be honest. I just want to see her true personality and I'll be set for the entire season.
ReplyDelete@thattagen
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I'm hoping for, and the "Sith Luna" leak proves it's possible.
I'm expecting awkward but well-meaning.
ReplyDeleteHonestly the only thing I don't like is the new hair, if anything it made for more contrast between her and Celly, so personality wise I think she'll turn out ok but dammit I want her old hair back :(
ReplyDeleteSo long as she's done well, I don't really mind what her actual personality is.
ReplyDelete@80PercentBrony
ReplyDeleteI hear ya brah....
I too, am on strict spoiler lockdown. I REFUSE to be spoiled.....this will be tooooooooooooooooooooooo good.
I want her to be a prankster, but with the humor of being 1000 years in the past and the angst of having NMM in her past. However, this would lead to a very bland Luna. Whatever Hasbro gives me is what I'll use to write.
ReplyDeleteI hope she has at least a little bit of a prankster side.
ReplyDelete@Specter Von Baren i completely agree, luna will be luna, and i know that i'm going absolutely love her just the way she is either way.
ReplyDeleteAs long as she's not some drooling idiot I'll be happy. I care nothing for fanfic so I'm not invested in any of her fake fanon personalities.
ReplyDeleteoh, and probalby master of the dark arts of sorcery, bewitchment, and calculus
ReplyDelete@Lightning Delight
ReplyDeleteYeah! We have enough "good behavior" with Celestia, and considering they are like dualities that sure would work fine!
@SIaanme
ReplyDeletedont worry, the infidels will fall
Also, to quote Star Wars
ReplyDelete"... as if millions of fan fics suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."
Honestly I am just happy we will finally get to see Luna. To me no matter what her personality is I would love her none the less.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm hoping that canon!Luna gives us some insight into what REALLY happened 1000 years ago that caused her to become Nightmare Moon.
ReplyDeleteThough in regards to her personality, I'm thinking she'll be a little bit shy and reserved (spending a millennium in isolation and having such a negative reputation/history will do that to a being) but someone who can be approached and easily befriended by anyone willing to reach out to her, and (hopefully) a patron of the arts. Something like T.S. mixed with Fluttershy, but with an added dash of Rarity's creative talent and a good measure of curiosity about all that has changed in her absence.
I always perfer conon over fanon. Hopefully she whould still be a nice pony even though she might be a prankster or a harmless troll.
ReplyDelete@dinodude0091While that's a decent mix of characters for that personality, I suggest you replace the Fluttershy in their with Pinkie Pie.
ReplyDeleteNow that would be interesting.
If she's a bit of a trickster, but also cute and slightly awkward (it has been a thousand years!), I will be happy.
ReplyDeleteI like to picture my Luna as relaxed and playful.
ReplyDeleteIs it weird that I almost expect her to be more or less like everyone seems to have portrayed her? We seem to think on a very similar wavelength to the show's creators...
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I'm just stoked to see whatever they do with her, and a Halloween episode in general. Halloween eps are the best.
All I know is that it will do Luna justice.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda hoping that personality-wise, MLP Luna has kind a personality similar to Harry Potter Luna- that is to say, kind of quirky and a little off-beat, but a free-thinker, mischievous, and fairly naive, but still utterly cute and adorkable.
ReplyDeleteThere's a very simple solution. You see the only way to not disappoint the fans is to include the personality they like. So you just make her have a totally different personality every time she is shown. I do mean every time. Camera cuts away? Different Luna. Scene Transition? Different Luna. Close up of another pony? Different Luna.
ReplyDeleteWell, looking at past events is other shows with the character being like Luna, (just being introduced, not knowing how things work) i think she will be a little ignorant (the adorable, "cant stay mad at you" way), ignorant/brash while trying to make new friends. Then after things start going south, she will be shy and perhaps back off, in the end tho, Twilight and the girls will help her make evrything turn out a-OK! I LOVE YOU LUNA!!!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I'd expect the princess of the night to be into dark humor.
ReplyDeleteI'm just hoping they don't make her more shy than Fluttershy, or if they do, they allow her to break out of that niche later on - I can't help that would make her a very 2D character if her only personality trait was to feel remorseful for what she did.
Somehow, I'd expect to embrace or at least recognize that she had some self control when she became nightmare moon, and to that end I'd expect her to be either akin to a teenage throwing a tantrum (which doesn't appeal to me at all), or a prankster (do all villains have to identify with Pinkie?).
So long as they took a similar approach as they did to designing the mane 6 (character flaws and all), I don't think they can go wrong.
The best expectation to have is no expectation. That way, I'm not disappointed with what I receive.
ReplyDeleteI'll love her no matter what.
...
Platonically.
i wont really mind how they portray her i just want a pony version of THIS IS HALLOWEEN
ReplyDeleteShe will be a pony with horns and wings who speaks.
ReplyDeleteShe will also not join the CMC, and probably not turn all of the ponies of Equestria into balloons.
Cute, Adorable, etc...
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to hear Luna speak in a Shakespearean accent... She was gone for a good 1000 years.
As long as there's some sort of song in this episode I'll be happy. If Luna sings I'll be even happier.
ReplyDeleteI want her to be a total BITCH.
ReplyDeletesome kind of conglomerate with lasers, muffins, a super computer, 12 jammie dodgers, and a bobby-pin factory... yes...
ReplyDelete@ZAquanimus This one, yes plz.
ReplyDeleteI want Luna. 'Nuff said. But I'll keep talking anyway, because that's what I do.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the majority here that I honestly don't care what her personality is, because I trust whole-heartedly the writers to make her a lovable character. If you people would calm down and stop projecting, there will be no sh*tstorm, for Luna's sake (literally). In fact, any of you who have a problem with "Nightmare Night" after it airs, watch it a minimum of 3 times before commenting. We don't want a rerun of the atrocious behavior that exploded after "Lesson Zero".
I have a hunch she'll be the shy loner type, but whatever the FiM team wants to will be awesome.
ReplyDeleteI have no expectations. It's better that way, there's absolutely no chance I'll be disappointed!
ReplyDeleteShe has to be the complete opposite of her sister. Like, night and day different.
ReplyDeleteOkay really, I will love Luna no matter who she really is. But I really want is for her to sing in this episode. My god, if she sings...
I... have no idea. I just want it done well. And I want her to be likable.
ReplyDeleteGOD I'M SO FRIGGIN' EXCITED!! LIKE YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
I always imagined Luna to be shy and timid, especially after the Nightmare Moon incident she will be worried about what all the other ponies will think of her, but I'm happy with whatever they give us!
ReplyDeleteI want to see what her actual personality is like. Its exciting!
ReplyDeleteMy brother told I was waiting for a tsundere... Is that the same? I mean, I wait for her to be like straight-forwarded and then Scootaloo'd in the last moment.
ReplyDeleteWhen she first meets the mane six she'll likely be a bit of a shrinking violet like most are predicting while everypony else politely gives her a wide berth out of suspicion and fear. She'll probably win them over when her puckish, prankish nature comes to light during the festivities and they'll all see the 'real' Luna shine through.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I WANT to see is a bit of her temper slip out when she becomes frustrated at the other ponies' apparent unease around her. Luna is clearly more temperamental than her sister and they should keep in touch with that part of her character.
Plus it would be super cute to watch.
I love Luna, but I'm not placing all of my hopes and dreams on what the fan base has created. I'm going to love whoever she turns out to be, and no matter what, I'm not going to be disappointed. I'm just excited to finally see her canon personality, versus how the fans depict her.
ReplyDeleteHow Pen Stroke made her during her short appearances in Past Sins is pretty much how I picture her. You know, shy and still trying to forgive herself for what she did, but willing to rule together with Celestia.
ReplyDeleteI don't care as long as her personality allows her to be friends with a character in my story. That's all I need.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I hope she doesn't have that regal air that Celestia has.
ReplyDeleteI just don't want cute and woobie. I'm really hoping for something along the lines of believable baddass. I'd like her to be powerful and confident, not all cute and cuddly and "on pleeeassee don't hate me" like.
ReplyDeleteHonestly? Like ZAquanimus said...
ReplyDelete"40% twilight, 40% fluttershy 10%dash 10%Rarity".
Something like that. OR, the a badass anti-hero type >:D Mostly 'cause Luna is supposed to be "dark" and what-not, which is why she got pushed back to season 2, so I'd hope that she'd be the closest thing this show can have to an anti-hero character. The Ponisher, anyone? ;D
My wife keeps saying the writers will throw us a bone and she'll have an abacus. If so, the collective Brony Sqwee will be heard throughout the world.
ReplyDeleteI hope she's true to the Flutter-shyness and goddess-power-magic that makes Lunashy and Twiluna fics good. But in the end, just like the new intro, I will grow to love whatever they do.
None. I have no expectations, and therefore can be pleasantly surprised by whatever happens.
ReplyDeleteAny! Seriously, I've loved nearly every version of Luna I've come across. Well, except for the ones where she's secretly evil, but other than that, I'll accept her just as she is, however she is!
ReplyDelete...though I will admit some extra fondness for reserved!Luna.
Somehow I imagine her to be somewhere in between Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie when it comes to her personality, but that's just my opinion. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing how she actually turns out when SE2:EP4 finally airs.
ReplyDeleteI always liked the idea of Luna being quiet. Maybe a teensy bit shy. But very curious and cool! If you get her to start talking to you, she can be really fun! Probably be a bit of a prankster, though not as crazy as Pinkie.
ReplyDeleteBut, I'm a strong supporter of canon. Whatever the FiM team goes with, I'll stand by. ^ ^
I'm just worried that people will be furious because "LUNA ISN'T HOW I WANT HER BAWWWW". I remember seeing some dude frustrated as all hell over The Cutie Mark Chronicles because, basically, the characters origins weren't the way he wanted it, and so now he's pissed off at anyone who likes that episode. It'd be pretty annoying to see more of that in this fandom.
