This comic post is dedicated to all things Derpy Hooves, because she is awesome, and ours. What other fandom has their very own mascot that actually shows up in the cartoon it revolves around? This pony is glorious.
I can't take either one as the Derpy in my headcanon, but they're both entertaining, well-done comics. I think Equestria Prevails might love Derpy even more than I do. (Apparently the first comic references The Thirteenth Floor and the second one Memento; I say "apparently" because I've seen neither movie, so I'm going by what I've read in the dA comments.)
The first shows what lies beyond the fourth wall. I personally thought that Pinkie Pie would have been the one to break it, but of course the lovable Ditzy/Derpy was!
The first one is referencing "The Thirteenth Floor" (1999). Came out about the same time The Matrix did, with a similar theme, so I'm not surprised if y'all don't remember it.
I love the Memento reference and can totally imagine Derpy having that sort of condition. Back in college, I wrote an 8-page paper on Memento and how it relates to the concept of individual identity. It's a fantastic movie and you should all go watch it.
These comic are pretty good, even though I haven't seen the movies they are referencing to. And I love how Derpy is getting more upfront screen time now in season 2. Especially in today's episode when she pulled the plug on the apple tub. I laughed, then d'awwed, then laughed again. The paper bag costume was awesome.
I saw Momento a few times for a film class. It just confused the heck out of me. I eventually got what was happening in the film. Still didn't make me like it any more than I did.
Tattooed on Ditzy's right foreleg are the words, "The frige is full. ALWAYS."

ReplyDeleteSorta mindf*** on that first one.
ReplyDeleteThat first comic really scared the ponydom outta me
ReplyDeleteDerpy Hooves is our link to Equestria. She's the mail mare that keeps us in touch with those who create this awesome show.
ReplyDeleteI think we need a "Michael PS3 comercial version" of Derpy.
#2: I...what.

ReplyDeleteIt says on the Deviant Art page that the second comic is a refrence to the movie Memento.
ReplyDelete#1 No Derpy, don't fly behind the fourth wall!
ReplyDelete#2 Didn't quite get this one, I'm sure it's referencing something though I can't place what.

ReplyDelete@James Corck
ReplyDeleteA what version now? Is this a video game reference of some sort?
That first one was... odd, but good.
ReplyDelete#2 was sort of funny, though I'm not familiar with the reference.
The second...
ReplyDeleteMemento reference? Smart.
The first shows what lies beyond the fourth wall. I personally thought that Pinkie Pie would have been the one to break it, but of course the lovable Ditzy/Derpy was!
ReplyDelete1. Now that Derpy knows what lies beyond the borders of Equestria she will never be the same.
ReplyDelete2. Great Memento reference
Everyone loves teh Derpy.
ReplyDelete#1 Oh, Tron. I didn't know what it was referencing honestly. lol Didn't have enough time to finish the rest of the landscape. ;)
#2 I don't quite get the reference in this one either myself... but it's from herself. lol And aww, Carrot Top is lying? But she seems so nice. :(
Derpy. <3 Love the Memento reference!
ReplyDeleteThese are great, especially number two! Memento's one of my favorite movies!
ReplyDeleteDear god, why are so many people missing out on the second one?
ReplyDeleteIt's a reference to the movie Memento, and all of you who don't get it really, really need to watch that movie!
The first one is referencing "The Thirteenth Floor" (1999). Came out about the same time The Matrix did, with a similar theme, so I'm not surprised if y'all don't remember it.

ReplyDeleteDoctor who? Tron? Man I don't think I could BE further from the truth.
ReplyDeleteI love Ditzy so muchm both of these comics just make me smile and LMHO
ReplyDeleteAwesome memento reference. I love derpy!
ReplyDelete# 2 is a reference to the movie Momento. Dude has really bad amnesia, so he leaves himself messages via polaroids.
ReplyDelete#1: My God, it's full of lines!
ReplyDeleteI love the Memento reference and can totally imagine Derpy having that sort of condition. Back in college, I wrote an 8-page paper on Memento and how it relates to the concept of individual identity. It's a fantastic movie and you should all go watch it.
ReplyDeleteAh, Memento, what a mind-screw that movie was!
ReplyDeleteKinda ironic that in that blog where one of the developers of Uncharted 3 talked about MLP, he mentioned Memento as well...
It probably means nothing, but I thought I'd bring it up! XDD
Carrot Top will tell you that there are no muffins in the fridge but there are, Derpy. There. Are.
ReplyDelete#1 So... guess she went off the Grid, huh? She seems pretty happy about it...
ReplyDelete#2 Derpy's reminding herself... how adorable. What's she got against Carrot Top? Is there a fanfic reference I'm missing here?
These comic are pretty good, even though I haven't seen the movies they are referencing to.

@Arothyss
ReplyDeleteNot a fanfic reference, a movie reference, Memento.

Ah, 13th Floor. Your only mistake was releasing so close to The Matrix.
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd one. lol.
ReplyDelete@Celestia
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd one is probably a reference to movie which involves time-travelling.
#1 And that's how Derpy discovered the Far Lands.
ReplyDeleteboth of these are just so perfect
ReplyDeleteI saw Momento a few times for a film class. It just confused the heck out of me. I eventually got what was happening in the film. Still didn't make me like it any more than I did.

#1 It would seem Equestria's very low-poly.
ReplyDeleteYay Derpy, we love you so much cause you're best pony.
ReplyDelete1.OH MY CELESTIA DITZY IS GOING TO TRON
ReplyDelete2.what? What? WHAT?
#2, there's whole bunch more of that in Ponibooru. Pretty good for meme-ish Stuff
ReplyDeleteOh, hahaha! "Memento" and "The 13th Floor", that was awesome... =D
ReplyDeleteAt the end of #1, I was thinking of Jean Micheal's Oxygene, especially Track No 104
ReplyDeletefunnily enough, i read the last comic first, i think...i cant remember, you see i have this condition, i've already told you havent i?
ReplyDeleteDerpy is just too fast for the animators.
ReplyDelete& Memento was sweet.
Poor Carrot Top getting the short end of the stick.
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteBravo.
@jodyjm13
ReplyDeleteYes, they are Memento and 13th floor references. I've seen both movies.
