Dat single video post. lol Whoever gets theirs in these are lucky because so many more people seem to look at these over the posts with three videos in them. :P
Pretty good. Not gonna lie, I've seen better. But this was good. It's about good use of effects and knowing how to flow through them and scenes well. Timing of course. All that good stuff.
How many times I have seen a promising music video only to think, at the end, "Not bad, but it really needed a bucket of turnips in it." So many times. But not this time!
Good song, good lip synching, good editing; the only bit of criticism would be the lens flare during the sonic rainboom, it just looked really out of place.
What program was that? I can't get any of those layering effects with windows live movie maker (I'm probably the bottom of the heap as editing PMVs goes, but hay, its all fun)
If someone had said listen to this song, and then said think of Rainbow Dash, I'd'v'ad brain problems trying to merge the two.
Yet it works, very well. Very distinctive from the usual pacing, and that song...
Second listen, and the (not fun, but... impact? I lack the words..) has been doubled. Will download, and-
Third listening... will ponder.
Very good PMV, and I love how you show that this doesn't need dozens of fast and flashy clips racing by to be excellence (I've always preferred longer, paced editing. styles)
I liked this a lot. A new song for me, plus some decent editing and effects, without causing seizures due to psycho coloring or the scene changing six times a second. I was able to enjoy both the song and the pictures equally, a balance that isn't easily achieved.
People love using the anonymity provided by the internet to tear down stuff that others build up. If they really intended for their comments to be helpful, they'd have found a way to send the maker of the video constructive criticism privately, instead of just making snarky comments in public.
I tried making a PMV with all sorts of original content but it only got like 5000 views. I guess that's what happens when you parody a bad movie that maybe five people have seen. But anyway, shameless self promotion!
Eh... This was nothing unique. It used masking, a boring song with random clips thrown on it. The only thing making it awesome is the overuse of Rainbow Dash. Personally I thought the 'This is Nightmare Night' PMV posted a few days ago was much more entertaining and skillful.
I don't see the appeal. The argument of "not overdone" is just ludicrous to me. Why would anyone get that much amazement out of simple editing techniques and okay lip synching?
I've seen PMV's that amazed me. This was not one of them.
Clips were too long and often didn't fit with the music, lip synching was just alright, and OH GOD THAT LENS FLARE. The masking was neat but got repetitive way too quickly.
*watches as every single other PMV maker out there suddenly stops making them because Equestria daily's expectations are FAR TOO HIGH and become very discouraged due to the statement about this PMV*
Pretty good, though I wouldn't say it's AMAZING. The cuts are clever and well-timed, but aside from that there's not much content, not enough "oomph" to it.
Doesn't really resonate with me, but at least it isn't completely random and seems to be trying to say something. Why is it the best made PMVs usually seem to have the least point to them? I do agree with Chaoyll though that the last "This is Nightmare Night" did a better job overall.
I am reading all theses negative comments about how it ONLY used masking and used RANDOM clips. None of them seem to be asking Did it NEED anything more then masking. The answer, No. it was pleasing to the eyes without causing seazures. Random clips? Well DUH, all the videos do. Have not seen anypony try and do an original score for an entire episode so get over it. This was good without crossing over to too much for the sake of having more. I would like to see any of you snarkhorses try lip sinking any video to music that is not a music video to start with.
Ehh, not great. The masking was cool maybe the first two or three times but halfway through the video it was clear the editor didn't have much imagination. The editing overall was pretty sub-par. There was no beat sync or coherent theme. The lip sync was great but, like that masking, it was just a gimmick to press people's "This video is automatically good because it has this" buttons. However, gimmicks that they were, the masking and lip sync were still extremely well executed, and I would love to see this editor pull them off in a meaningful way in another video.
that is the best pmv to date...PERIOD....not over done not under done and the lip sync up was spot on....and useualy the sync up falls flat on most of them
A good PMV? that's rare. I barely watch PMV's because they are usually pretty bad (no offense) but this is very well done. More than just cutting scenes, hes actually edited them as well to have more effect and work better with the song beats. Fantastic.
A good PMV can be made with nothing more than Gimp, Windows Movie Maker, FFMpeg, Audacity and Virtual Dub... and skill. All the special effects in Premiere or AfterEffects won't save a lack of skill.
Of course, good skill paired with good tools (PAID FOR, not pirated, for people with Adobe Envy) is the best situation.
I make no assertion that the video linked is in any particular category above. I will just say this: be impressed with skill, not shiny... if you yourself have the ability to tell the difference between the two.
I can not mask like that. I've only done simple masking tricks, but this is really good. If I had 1/7th of this guys skill added to my basic knowledge of editing, I might get a hit someday.
@Luna Epona When people say a video uses "random clips" they mean the clips weren't chosen to best tell a story, match up with lyrics or get across any specific theme, there's nothing really unifying them.
That said I don't think the clips used in this PMV were random.
This was a meh PMV. Not bad, not good, nothing special. Better than many (not saying much), but still only so-so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irQ_d78feMA THIS on the other hand, was one of the earliest ones created, and is ridiculously well-done. The synching is amazing, the scene choices are excellent, and it turns a song that sucks on its own to something highly enjoyable. The only one I've seen with better synching is shit fuck stack sung by Fluttershy.
since i started hanging around the mlp fandom my music folder has expanded by atleast twice in size, and it's all thanks to epic stuff like this! *downloads song*
Knowing you Cereal, I thought you would be more critical about it. The video seemed kind of repetitive to me, it just used that masking effect left and right at every chance.
It was okay. The effects kinda got in the way of the video itself, pretty damn annoying for shit to freeze every five seconds and stuff to turn black. The video would benefit if it dropped the lip sync and focused on meaningful clips. Lip sync is so fucking overrated.
Dear Princess Luna, Today I learned that lip-synching is cool but don't over-do it. It's important to have a good mix of thoughtful effects and well placed voice syncing. -Your faithful student, Kybdi

ReplyDelete...
Ooh! Ooh! Do one of that song! Too Much Time On My Hands by Styx!
that was really good work and cereal is best blog pony (because he likes Rarity
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty good, compared to most pmv's. There's more to editing then simple masking techniques though.
ReplyDeleteThe intro was great. The rest was alright, the masking and extended clips got old after a while.
Wow, amazing video. I think my smartypants doll got all those notes down.
ReplyDeleteSuch superior editing skills. Oh my.
ReplyDeleteDat single video post. lol Whoever gets theirs in these are lucky because so many more people seem to look at these over the posts with three videos in them. :P

That was great! Definitely one of the best PMVs I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteLiberal use of alpha layers and desaturation. Noted.
ReplyDeleteSarcastic Twi:

ReplyDeleteI expected a boring PMV with lots of special effects.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I got, with an additional cheesy lens flare.
Editing's great. Next time get a vision so it's not just a bunch of random clips set to music. Only then will you have something I want to see.
Perhaps it's because I don't have the first clue about editing that I don't understand the backlash / sarcasm against this, but I liked the video.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why Rainbow Dash is best pony. I REGRET NOTHIIIIIING!
ReplyDeletetook notes...........
ReplyDeletein order to have epic pmv one needs RAINBOW DASH
very nice
ReplyDeleteGood song, good lip synching, good editing; the only bit of criticism would be the lens flare during the sonic rainboom, it just looked really out of place.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that it wasn't dripping with effects, and the ones that were used were simple made this enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteIt was good.

Really good! Thank you.
Wow that was fantastic, not over done, and not underdone, like the best cake! mmm cake...
ReplyDeleteNow that is how you do it! Perfect execution. Nice cuts. And good timing.
ReplyDelete10/10
The song was nice, But I couldn't tell if it was lag or editing, The effects disappoint.
ReplyDelete...that was fucking beautiful...
ReplyDeleteI liked this a lot. A new song for me, plus some decent editing and effects, without causing seizures due to psycho coloring or the scene changing six times a second. I was able to enjoy both the song and the pictures equally, a balance that isn't easily achieved.

definitely going to my ipod
ReplyDeleteMasking like a boss.
ReplyDeletewow...that was great!
ReplyDeleteEpic PMV is Epic! Totally deserving it's own post!!! WOW!
ReplyDeleteThat there's a really good PMV, but not "its own post" good.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, I use masking all the time. :D
@Flashback Exactly what I was gonna say.
ReplyDeleteI tried making a PMV with all sorts of original content but it only got like 5000 views. I guess that's what happens when you parody a bad movie that maybe five people have seen. But anyway, shameless self promotion!

*twitches like Rainbow Dash*
Well, that's a damn good editing you have there. Definitely one of my favorites. But not the one i liked/enjoyed the most. Excellent work regardless.

I don't know the song, but the video was really well done.
ReplyDeleteVery good PMV^^

Pretty good, though I wouldn't say it's AMAZING. The cuts are clever and well-timed, but aside from that there's not much content, not enough "oomph" to it.
ReplyDeleteWell, it is certainly above most PMVs out there and creative too
ReplyDeleteBut I have to agree, it's not "own post" good

ReplyDeleteI am now in love with this song.
ReplyDeleteThat was some kick flank editing, but it wasn't "ZOMGSOAWESOME" good...
ReplyDeleteWasn't impressed with the video, but THAT SONG, wow, I have a new band to track down.
ReplyDeleteEh. It was decent
ReplyDeleteThat was good, but Cereal, you obviously have not seen "Pink Party Pony Pandemonium" by mmmandarinorange.

ReplyDeleteIndeed, this is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this. I find it amazing how with some time and editing we can make almost any music or sound clip work with ponies

Am I the only one disturbed by watching Scootaloo say "kill your heroes?" ... Don't kill Dashie, please.

ReplyDeleteThe song is OK, but the editing is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteFU*KING AWESOME!

Play Like Pinkie Pie is much better.

I had typed out several rather large chunks of text to explain my view of it, but after reading and editing, it seemed overwrought.
ReplyDeleteI did notice some lip syncing issues in the very beginning and the very end but little else. Usually a matter of a syllable or two out of pacing.
Suffice to say, I don't see eye to eye with much of the criticism and this has quickly become one of my favorite videos.
For some reason this emotionally affects me. Usually only classical and instrumental affects me.
ReplyDelete
