Crainy over on Youtube has released a full 43 minute revamp of the pilot series. His goal was to take the show down a much darker route using different musical scores and special effects. For those looking for something different, check it out after the break!

Well I WAS going to say first but...
ReplyDelete@LcplBronyUSMC Holy crap....that's never going to happen again. o.O;
ReplyDelete@LcplBronyUSMC
ReplyDeleteThats so meta even that answer
@YeowzaMareAgreed, let us never speak of this again.
ReplyDelete@YeowzaMaredoesn't work if you use "that's"
ReplyDeleteThat is really epic! Here's hoping he does a Discord one :)
ReplyDeleteThis is really interesting so far. I like the darker tone, and the musical cues are much more intense. Still, give me bright colors, happy music and sweet, adorable characters any day. :)
ReplyDelete@TwinkiePinkie
ReplyDeleteWell its More Encouraging The Acronym then the 2 words before
Can't get past the goofy contrast / blown-out highlights in the center of every shot. Sorry.

ReplyDeleteIt's not doing it for me, to be honest. But I applaud all his hard work that went into this project.
ReplyDeleteBrony edition? No. No!
ReplyDeleteThe ultimate brony edition is the original. It's the original, with its sincere lightheartedness, that made us bronies.
There are hundreds of dark shows. MLP is not one of them and few of us would have ever become fans if it was.
Ooooohhhh.... Sounds interesting. Will watch.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the normal happy version, i have dark and depressing stuff all throughout the day
ReplyDelete@AR This. Making the show 'darker and edgier' and claiming that THIS is the version that bronies want to see is fundamentally retarded.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I don't see what the fuzz is about. I found this kinda worse than the original.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the voices are drowned out by the music, the stupid bloom/blur effect almost strains my eyes...
All they did was change some of the music and add in some bad effects.
This was actually really well done, well worth a watch!
ReplyDelete@Radimir
ReplyDeleteBravo - if you're trying to make a kids show darker because 'you want to see what it would look like!'...stop and go back to watching something NATURALLY WRITTEN to be dark, don't just change a few shades and musical tones in an attempt to be edgy and cool. It's the antithesis of this show, and not what most of us signed up for...
YES, you can like the idea...but the execution just cannot hope to match the charm or the brilliance of the original product - nothing anyone can do will ever change that fact.
If you're looking at the show and thinking " This needs to be DARK, man... " then I hate to tell you this, but you're just plain wrong - it doesn't, and it certainly doesn't need Edgy coloration or more finely tuned musical cues to make it's mark.
I just can't buy into that nonsense either, sorry.
No. Sorry. This doesn't work for me. The contrast honestly comes across as goofy, and not in a good way. And the whole muted color scheme doesn't set a mood so much as it makes me wonder if something might be wrong with my monitor.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have to agree with what's been said before. Wouldn't the real "Brony" edition be the one that MADE us all bronies? The lighthearted, silly, and cute one? Suggesting that "Bronies" want things to be darker and edgier anywhere other than fanfiction (and even that is highly debatable depending upon who you are) is kinda stupid.
I applaud the effort, but honestly, it really just doesn't work well...

ReplyDeleteSo, fuck with the colors and change the music to make it all dark and edgy? No.
ReplyDeleteBesides, the first episode of Season 2 is as dark as it should get, and even then it should only get that dark once or twice per season, if at all.
@AR
ReplyDeletepretty much this. The color editing kind of gave me a headache and i thought the original bgm was great.
That, and I will always maintain the opinion that MLP grimdark can't be done without just seeming silly.
Why would we want dark ponies? The whole reason ponies are awesome is because the show is so unapologetically optimistic. That way, when it takes the slightest turn for a darker plot (Discord, that is, love him to pieces), it can feel a bit dark while not sacrificing the goofy, silly, bubblegum-coated tone.
@Vinyl Scratch I think you've misinterpreted the meaning of my post.
ReplyDelete@Flutteryay
ReplyDeleteI hope the second S2 episode is DARKER.
Not by much, only a little.
I love Friendship is Magic because is whimsical and happy. I don't need modern FPS art directions applied to everything. Especially to MLP:FiM. Don't fix it if it's not broken. ;D
ReplyDeleteAs everyone else has said. No.
ReplyDeleteThe music doesn't really match what is supposed to be going on in the scenes, and it tends to drown out some parts of the dialogue. Even if it had gone with it just changing the music wouldn't of made what was said any darker, especially since the differences were rather inconsistent. Nice attempt at it I guess.
This really isn't that bad. Personally, I think that the cuts were done pretty damn well, as were the added sound effects. The color scheme probably would've worked better if it had come into play only after NMM's return; I know that YouTube was screwing with the contrast, so I can't really comment on the subtlety, but it was overbearing during a lot of episode one (Fluttershy being bleached out was particularly glaring).
ReplyDeleteThe music was often good, but there were a few instances when it was mixed too loud, or didn't blend enough with the original score; and as much as we all like that Luna song with the lyrics, it didn't work in that scene. Too distracting. Also, the Pinkie Pie song was fun, but somewhat out of place.
However, I will definitely admit that there were points when I was legitimately enjoying this work. The scene with Spike and Twilight in Canterlot, for one, clicked pretty well with me, and I preferred this cut of the Rainbow Dash crisis of loyalty to the original. Overall, 'twas a good effort and a hard concept to work with, and I don't regret having watched it.
interesting, unfortunately tl;dw. I wish I had time.
ReplyDeleteI mostly agree with what others said above. The video was good, the music score was very appropriate most times, I guess sometimes it was loud in order to drown out the original one, I know the problems with singling out a voice, so I'd say that was also a good work. I especially liked the little things like the creep when Nightmare Moon was first read of, and the dark wave when NMM broke the elements apart. The Manticore scene had also a very interesting concept going on. Overall it was quite good.
ReplyDeleteThe best part is, I didn't even notice most of the BGM was brony songs until I went and read the description. Whoa.
But. No matter how many the changes, anything like this isn't meant IMHO to stand up to the original, since it will probably never do. The original is what brought us all together with its original mood, music score, goofiness along epicness, and what have you. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I know the goal was to make something that would feel more "brony" than "pony", but no, seriously. Bronies like the show for what it exactly is, so claiming to do such a thing is asking for trouble mostly. Just changing the title to something like "MLP: Cinematic edition" or similar would correct many of the wrong assumptions.
I'll just say I was skeptical but gave it a watch anyway. I didn't really hate it but I can't say I loved it either. The reality is all that really happened here was te contrast was messed around with and pretty much pinkie pie being pinkie pie was removed. There were some neat parts with the editing and honestly I'd like to see someone rebut episodes 1 and 2 to flow as a whole together. Which is somethin I didnt realize I wanted until I saw this. The reality is though, bronies don't want their ponies to be all grim and scary. Yes, we write fics and take our loveable little equines to dark places in them. The show in general is kind of a sacred relic. We love it because of it's goofiness and sillyness.
ReplyDeleteSo basically, I appreciate the effort. I didn't feel like I wasted my time. But as a lover of all things pony I can say I prefer my bright and colorful Equestria to the one that was attempted here.
I prefer the colorfulness of the normal show. Never was one for Grimdark
ReplyDeleteHm seems interesting, I shall check it out :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure dark or just high contrast...
ReplyDeleteStill, nice working.
It'd be pretty cool to do the same with "The Return of Harmony"
ReplyDeleteThe color work kinda hurt my eyes, but I did like the smooth transition into the second episode. :3
ReplyDeleteOne thing I really love about Friendship is Magic is the balance between goofiness and seriousness.
ReplyDeleteHere, we have most of the goofiness removed and the seriousness increased by a fair lot. Which is, To be perfectly honest, disappointing.
It's just not for me.
ReplyDeleteThe fourth time I've watched Episode 1, and I just now noticed Nightmare Moon reflected off of something in Twilight's Canterlot library.
*facehoof*
So why is this dark?
ReplyDeleteBecause omitting certain lines, changing the music and recoloring doesn't exactly cut it for me as "dark"
it seems that this is a very Love it/Hate it kind of thing.
ReplyDeletePersonally I applaud your efforts. Certainly your goal isn't to replace, but merely parallel. Though it's true we all became Bronies because of the original, much like fan fiction this has a similar drawing effect.
I started it and must go now, but I'll watch the rest of it later.
Also please excuse my poor grammar. I've been forgetting my English as of late from being in Germany.
@Demonu
ReplyDeleteThis
This was hardly dark at all. just less goofy.
@YeowzaMare You're so xkcd, even that comment. XD
ReplyDeleteI think this is interesting, largely because with the new tone and music, it could be called "My Little Pony: The Final Fantasy." :-D
ReplyDeleteI think a large part of the value of this comes from the contrast with the original, all of us knowing what's happened before. It adds a bit more insight.
I do like this, in general. The changed music does add a general feel of the stakes being raised a notch or two (or by 20%, perhaps?).
The recoloring does add to it some, but it makes me think a little too much Ghost Hunters. That said, my only real complaint is poor Fluttershy being constantly washed out.
Interesting that the more intense scenes used music from Tranformers. :-)
I'll still prefer the original, but I like this version. It's a neat little contrast with a new feel. And I do actually think this would still have appealed to the young girl demographic Hasbro was going for. In the 80's, She-Ra had a similar feel to it at times and plenty of girl loved it (as well as the shows male fans).
Good job recutting.
Honestly what I like about MLP is that it's NOT dark. Everyone and there mother is doing a dark gritty remake and I'm sorry It totally turns me off.
ReplyDeleteNo offense to the creator everyone has there thing. And there hard work shows. But for me it misses the point
@AR
ReplyDeleteI'm in complete agreement ^_^ glad to see that someone else thinks the same thing :D
Okay, for the most part I agree with the above commenters that the washed colours and overbearing musical cues are a bit distracting, and that the "darker, edgier" tone makes the series feel less like itself.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I thought the sad music during the meeting with Fluttershy made her seem all the more adorably vulnerable, and the techno nightclub version of Giggle at the Ghostly worked bizarrely well.
Also, cutting "The Last Temptation of Rainbow Dash" to leave the outcome unclear until she triumphantly emerges from the fog wasn't really darker as such, and I liked the change. It gave the moment some more oomph.
I could picture deeply enjoying a "more EPIC" rather than "more DARK" version, with some of these changes, untouched colours, and some slight adjustments to the balance of music and dialogue.
From the creator:
ReplyDelete"Wow, what an interesting response. But i expected it, but i didnt thought it would be such an extrem "hate it/love it" thing. However, alot of the negative critic comes from the fact that the people get it wrong. Im not retarted, i know why we bronies (and myself) watch and love MLP. Ultimate MLP isnt trying to replace the original one, its not even trying to make it better: Its trying to make it different. Of course it isnt as good as the original, but that wasnt the goal of it all.
Also, there seems to be alot of complaint about the "Brony Edition" in the title. Thats just a misunderstanding. This movie is not trying to be the MLP that bronies always wanted, not at all (that would be the original, anyways). The "Brony Edition" in the title simply refers to the use of the awesome brony created music in the movie, so, in a way, you could call it a "Brony edition". Think of it as a small compilation of the stuff the brony community has done. Or even better yet, a tribute."
Ehhh...it wasn't exactly bad as such, but it just didn't do it for me. I like the show for the sickening sweetness, so I'm not a big fan of trying to make it more serious.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI only have two things to say, and the first is that is that my eyes hurt; The second is that I still tip my hat to you on the work you put into it though.
ReplyDeleteMinty
@Tonzog
ReplyDeleteHah, have you seen the first Discord episode? That's dark enough for me. Holy crap. =P
Ugh, that was not what I was expecting at all. Have been looking forward to this, but it turned into pure shit. Sorry to say it, but if you have no idea how to handle film or music then you shouldn't (or at least practice enough first). The recolouring was just overdone, adding nothing to the series, the few scenes that were cut were cut badly, the music seldom fit the dialogue or the rest of the scene, and the creator obviously has no idea how to work his volume mixer. Trying to drown dialogue in music to sort of overwrite the mood only hurts ones ears as well as makes the dialogue more or less incoherent.
ReplyDelete2/10, try again. Sorry, but that's just how it is.
What the heck did I just watch!?
ReplyDeleteThe "brony edition" tag really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. According to whom??
ReplyDeletedude did a damn good job making this using his free time, youtube screws contrast, you get more pony, yet YOU GUYS COMPLAIN? I think it was great and wait for download to watch the real contrast then we will see if i dont like it then.
ReplyDeleteI liked it and if you go to youtube and read the description, you'd learn that it wasn't meant to be DARKER. It was meant to be a bit more serious and the "Brony Edition" bit means that he incorporated some fan made stuff in here. As for the color, you can blame youtube.
ReplyDelete@Sun Ray
ReplyDeleteHe planned on the sound in the Manticore battle. It brought out the panic and desperation, I really liked that effect.
Now hang on!
ReplyDeleteAs somebody who has also tried a thing that worked for some and really not for others, I sympathize completely. I did the song 'We're On To Somethin' Good' (not at all grimdark, but shippy =) ) and one of the choices that I made was to try to record character vocals- and singing, IN character and not transitioning to a singing voice. Not having my own Ashleigh Ball *sob!* I was compelled to fake it as hard as I possibly could- with varispeed (pitch shifting gets artificial)
I tried my very best and still didn't manage to perfectly, totally nail the voices, especially when they sing. (haven't given up though!)
You jes' keep at it and refine your craft, and learn not to call it things like 'THE brony edition', and be brave! There's a place for everything in pony, EV-ERY-THING.
The only rule is that you share- find a better way to identify what you do other than 'the brony edition' such as 'ponies, darker and edgier' that tips people off what you're about.
And don't back down! Just git better. There's a place for you :)
Meh. Seriously, meh.
ReplyDeleteOk, so the color thing was accidental. But the rest is still faulty. First off, the obvious stuff like the music cutting out. And yes you can't cut out all jokes....but by cutting out some the ones that DO stay in seem extra forced. Pinkie's song especially, and seriously it was really stupid sounding.
As for the rest of the music? Most of it was ok, except that it was often jarrign transitions. What bothers me more, though, is why take all the score from one other movie? If you're going to raid other preexisting music to over write what's there, go a little further and give a much better variety (to say nothing about issues with using a Remote Control score but eh...). And oh god, the music was especially dumb in the flight to Ponyville part.
One thing that was interesting was how well the two episodes linked together when the "last time..." part is taken out.
Still the big thing is that, while it's an interesting effort, it really loses what makes the show so good in the first place.
A project like this takes a lot of time and effort, and I applaud it for that.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan, however. Taking away the lightness and energy and comedy and making it darker sucks out what makes MLP unique and enjoyable to me and seems to miss the point somewhat. Marks for effort, but the central concept was flawed I think.
This idea worked wonderfully for George Lucas with the original Star Wars! Who needs charm, right? We want edgier visuals, and nothing gets to the young'uns like CG overflow!
ReplyDeleteBravo! BRAVO!
Not cool man. I dislike it when people try to make MLP all dark. Also change the subtitle 'brony edition'
ReplyDelete@oatmealcrazy
ReplyDeleteThe "Brony Edition" isn't meant to mean that it's a Brony's dream or something. He used works submitted by many Bronies to complete it. The author already acknowledged that he wasn't trying to replace the show and that he still likes the original best.
This...well...
ReplyDeleteI don't think it comes out that great. There's a huge clash in the tone, and I was expecting things like Pinkie eating the cupcake to be cut. I just can't look at this without getting a feeling that the execution comes off as too uneven.
I believe the unkind contingent has BEEN heard from at this point D:
ReplyDeleteLet's hope the creator keeps makin' an effort to find a place for himself in fan creations and learns from all this, but I do NOT like how angry people are bein' with him for trying to make a fan thing. Please try to be kind and give him the credit that he'll be able to listen, this kinda shellacking just makes it harder to accept the truth (that the idea needs some refinin' and target-audiencin')
Well, you know what? I actually liked it!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I didn't feel okay about it when it started, with the blooming effect and the music playing over the original background music. But as the video kept going forward, and after checking some comments, I started to realize the point you guys were making.
It is indeed darker, edgier, with less jokes and sillyness, and more straight to the point. The "cinematography" (if I can use that term) is unconventional, but very atmospheric! It does draw you more into the action and works really well. Props to the editor who blended both episodes so well. Good work on the remixes and the use of music as well.
Overall, I really liked it :) 9/10.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOkay guys, the creator of this little thingy here.
ReplyDeleteI wont comment on everything you have said, mainly because for the fact that i talked about alot of the issues you mentioned already on the youtube page of the video, so there isnt really any need for it. Aside from that, i agree with alot of you guys, the movie has alot of flaws and i expected this reaction (even though i thought it would not be such an extreme case of hate it/love it).
However, there is one comment on here that drove me to post here afterall, and that is this little mean-spirited note from David:
"This idea worked wonderfully for George Lucas with the original Star Wars! Who needs charm, right? We want edgier visuals, and nothing gets to the young'uns like CG overflow!
Bravo! BRAVO!"
@David
Wow. How dare you to even compare this to the stuff that George Lucas has done to the original Star Wars movies, with all these unnecessary changes that totally ruined the movies? George Lucas intentions were selfish and he wants to completely replace the original versions, making the originals available to noone. I, on the other hand, did Ultimate MLP pretty much just for the brony community. This was the first movie i made that wasnt done because i really really wanted to do it. I have alot of other movie projects i work on, where i have total control, so to do a recut was rather cheap for me. And Ultimate MLP kind of slowed me down on this other projects, but i continued to do it because i felt like i need to contribute something to this wonderfull community. I could have very well spent the little spare time that i have on other things. I didnt want to replace anything like George Lucas did. I know that you cant top the original. I wanted to give you bronies another entertaining thing to watch and i knew that somepony would be interested in watching a more serious approach to the whole thing. And guess what, i was right.
Your comment was just downright insulting and a real low blow. This is the brony community, if you really want to considere yourself a part of that, you should know better.
Honestly, this didn't impress me. Washing out the color, adding a reverse bloom filter, and giving most of it the soundtrack from a generic console RPG doesn't improve things. In fact, it reeks of things that some suit would do in a lame effort to make it appeal to boys...
ReplyDeletePinkie Pie lost some of her lines....
ReplyDeleteYou will be baked, and there WILL be cupcakes.
I really liked this. It was not perfect, nor was it something I wished for in the beginning, but I don't understand all this hate! Seriously, it was well done, and the contrast-thingy is Youtube's fault, as told in the description (how many of you did even read it at all!?). The music fitted in very well. It sounded a bit silly with the original score in the background, and that's propably the reason why the music was so loud in some parts. I enjoyed the Manticore-part too,"Why so Serious" fitted almost perfectly there. This was a well done mix of epic things and MLP. Maybe not darker, but more epic at least. Thumbed up and faved.
ReplyDeleteIs it faded like that for the whole video?
ReplyDeleteI can appreciate all the hours of creativity and hard work behind that video, it's just a little sad that the outcome wasn't that enjoyable.
ReplyDelete@Crainy
ReplyDeleteHey Crainy,
Awesome job, I thought the edits were interesting. I enjoyed watching it, largely to see how the changes in dialogue and music affected the overall show. I like dramatic revisionings, there's a PMV of NMM called 'Trouble is a Friend' which your efforts really reminded me of.
I still prefer the original, but I do find this a very cool edit and just as enjoyable as the Friendship is Witchcraft and Mentally Advanced re-workings.
Eh, wasn't for me. The musical cues were just a little too much.
ReplyDeleteAs a blanket comment, this isn't for me.
ReplyDeleteBut there are parts that I really enjoyed. The opening scene was awesome! I really liked the music and cues with it. And when Twilight looked up Nightmare Moon I liked the visuals in that.
The rest is very long and watching it all wasn't for me, but as I scanned I did like the battle with Nightmare Moon, the darker music adds a certain dramatic flare that I like.
No me gusta.
ReplyDeleteI need happy ponies.
Cutting out humor and bright colors does not a better product make.
You know, not a fan of this cut of the project, but if Hasbro ever released Master Dialog Tracks, I would be all over this. Between that, the original background music, and the community music, we could make one hell of a remix episode.
ReplyDeleteAnd @Crainy, no "For The New Lunar Republic" track? At all? See me at the end of class and expect to redo this project for partial credit. :p
It's not really working for me...
ReplyDelete@B-Man
ReplyDeleteI think the clash in tone was the problem I had with it. Some comedic elements were cut, but others you can't really remove. Or perhaps I've seen it so many times that even with the added dramatic music, it still feels weird because I can see the parts that are supposed to be funny and I anticipate them.
I appreciate the creator's effort and all that though. Some people will like it, some people won't. Lol ~opinions~
Wow you guys, bringing on the hate tonight or what. I thought this was a really cool edit and I applaud the guy for taking the time to mix it up. This interpretation was quite interesting and in my opinion, doesn't detract from the show at all but just looks at it in a different way.
ReplyDeleteThe contrast was a bit painful but it's been said that much of that was youtube's doing so I can't fault them for that. Many of the cuts were really cool in how they sort of changed the scenes and the Transformers Soundtrack was a nice touch.
AMAZING :D
ReplyDeleteThe Luna part gave me chills, and added a more dramatic part by taking out the joking parts... and with the color scheme as well... GOOD JOB :D
I applaud the effort, talent, and time that it took to make this but there just ain't nothin quite like the original.
ReplyDeleteOther than the color, I gotta say, I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the pre-ponyville parts, and twilght's monologue to NMM at the end, even if the drums cut out for the Rarity/Rainbow Dash bits only to reappear seconds later.
ReplyDeleteContrast is Youtube's fault, but the bloom effects and desaturation I could do without, and the only added effect I liked was the improvement on Twilight's charging and teleportation graphics.
I like the idea of incorporating fan-mixes of the score and the songs into the show, but the execution was just a bit off. The contrast wasn't their fault though. Still, it is a bit frustrating. The Giggle At the Ghosties part shows definite promise. Perhaps a more John Williams-esque score might be in order. Or, even a Morricone inspired score would sound good. The possibilities are endless. The post-production and mixing is the main issue. If only the balance between the voices and the music was better.
ReplyDelete@Viethra
ReplyDeleteI meant the visual contrast. The thematic dissonance was clearly all their doing.
So you cut out mostly Pinkies scenes and that's supposed to make it a "brony edition"? FOR SHAME.
ReplyDeleteSooooo... That guy took the episodes (1&2) and just changed the music at a few place, the light, and threw a few effects here and there ?
ReplyDeleteMmh... I guess the idea is interesting, as 'music' is something that holds great power and effect in scenes.
Just saw the first 5min (for now), but it seems 'ok'... except for the lighting; it just seem too bright... maybe if it was toned down just a bit ?
What the hell? Did someone seriously make this? :spikenoooooooooo:
ReplyDeleteOH.. The contrast thing was on purpose? Yikes.
ReplyDeleteThe pinkie song reminds me, didn't she say in CM Chronicles, no one really laughed or smiled before her party? Plot hole?
ReplyDeleteAs for the vid, I'm very musically attuned so to speak, so I really loved the atmospheric effects the changes brought in. But I don't think you need to cut out the jokes for that. Without the Pinkiepie antics, how does she represent laughter? (song asside) You can't cut out a character's essence, even being serious.
And I'm dissapointed in the flaming. We're Bronies guys, the most supportive bunch online. Don't flame someone's effort and then claim to defend the essence of Pony. For shame.
Hmmmm, yeah. :/ I'm sorry but it just doesn't really work for me. The color correction is a bit much and how he left the original score for the episodes in while other music was playing kind of sounded like a bad mixture of emotions (I don't know how to explain that). It feels like what people have said about it just taking the jokes and happiness out of the original and adding brony music and movie soundtracks to the mix. With major color correction.
ReplyDeleteI did like the Nightmare Moon part. The music made that part a bit more epic. Also, the volume levels and such seemed to be off. The music overpowered the dialog on some parts. Does he know that there are voice-only version of the episodes?
I posteded too much here, sorry. Ignore huge post, please. I scuk at critic!
@ismbof Oh! And spelling! Ummhm.
ReplyDeleteCan't really say that I liked it a whole lot. The washed-out colors didn't really add anything except making it harder to see, and the altered music, while an interesting idea, sometimes combined with poorly-removed existing BGM to make some really ugly sounds in places. Cutting out the lines of comic relief... well, I guess it served its purpose of making the whole thing less light-hearted, but after seeing the uncut episodes as much as I have it feels wrong.
ReplyDeleteAll in all, it's an interesting idea, but it just doesn't do it for me.
Definitely the saying "Don't fix what isn't broken." could be applied here. The so called "Brony edition" felt like anything but that. The poster of the video definitely could have fixed the color issue if he was skilled, instead of blaming youtube for looking like crap. Making the show more "dark" and "edgy" was definitely going in the wrong direction. The added-in music definitely doesn't fit in with the atmosphere of MLP, and most of it drowned out the dialogue. Much of the original music was left in where the new music played, which you could hear them both clashing with each other in some scenes. The added in effects definitely weren't needed at all, and were distracting to say the least. While I commend the maker of the video for trying to showcase the talents of fellow Bronies, I felt that he definitely missed the mark with why we liked the series in the first place. The true "Brony Edition" is nothing more than the original show in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteDerps are gunna Derps! But seruously Bravo for the Effort... really want to watch the NON-YouTube version and give my best answer.
ReplyDeleteYesh the picture looks like Pastels colouring XD
Yesh the sound are washing out the vocals!
Yesh some of the old music is still there in the background!
Yesh some of the scenes were cut!
All of this wasn't enough to make a big impact!
I still enjoyed this and got the same emotional reactions I did when I saw the origionals. :)
I'll go show this to my bro.. He Breathes Ponies... **Cough... Gag...** 'Looks over and hears chuckles' I guess he was breathing out a Pinky Pie this time XD.
Egh sorry... Keep doin' your thing Bro!
