Nice.
ReplyDeleteZ-z-z-zombie ponies?
ReplyDeleteAny particular inspiration that didn't quite warrant a crossover tag, or is this just straight up zombies?
Zombie ponies. Shipping. No thanks.
ReplyDeletethis... did not go how i expected. this was terrible in a good way...
ReplyDelete... that name is so similar to mine D:
ReplyDeleteNow that I've actually read this...
ReplyDeleteWow.
Characters like Big Mac (in this story, at least) always fascinate me. The ones who are willing to become the villain for the sake of those they care about. They perform harsh but necessary tasks, knowing full well the consequences. It's always darkly inspiring.
And speaking of dark, dear Celestia was this a twisted fic. Reading the names of those characters grow longer and longer in my head... *shudder* This is the really good kind of f*cked up.

ReplyDeleteHm. This one was... Well, shit.
ReplyDeleteI think twisted about covers it. Kinda scary how chillingly real it seems, though.
...Well, that was unexpected. Quite a realistic reaction from all parties involved, though. Like those above said, this is good in a twisted way. Renegade!Big Mac in particular is very dark, but very interesting. Is there a Chapter 2 inbound, or is this a one-shot?
ReplyDeleteAlso, this proves that this fandom will ship anything, under any circumstances. Kind of a shame it had to turn out like that, though, no matter how appropriately in-character it felt. TwiMac is one of my favorite ships.
@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteThink it should be mentioned that I was not calling this story shit. I was just at a loss for words about it.
God damn, this is depressing...
ReplyDeleteExcellent writing, but so damn horrifying...
It feels like there should be like one more page at the end of this. I don't mind cliffhanger endings, or ones where you're left to interpret, but this is just too much.
ReplyDelete-SPOILERS-
Twilight runs back to the gate.
Does she kill Big Mac? Does she commit suicide? There's literally no intention shown. Just anger, and then turning around. One more sentence could have done the trick to hint at what was going to happen, just enough for the reader to be able to formulate the finale in their own minds and feel certain about it; whether or not they were right.
3/5 Stars. The story itself was amazing, but honestly, the ending is driving me beyond bonkers.
*reads previous comments*
ReplyDelete*sees words like depressing, horrifying, saddening, and so on*
Yeah, I think I'll stay away from this fic for my own sanity. Sounds like you did a good job on it, but no thanks.
NEED CHAPTER 2
ReplyDelete@Dusty the Royal Janitor
ReplyDeleteIt's the awesome kind of depressing, horrifying, and saddening, though.
Nine (author) ?
ReplyDeleteSo... that's not Nines or Ninetempest then ?
Incredibly brilliant, dark, and rather heart-wrenching. Damn good work.
ReplyDeletePONY NECROMANCERS HOOOOOO!!!!
ReplyDeletegawd im trying to write a story bout a necromancer in ponyville with a psychotic paladin tracking him down (in other words necromancer is good and the paladin bad) and its hard as hell and since im not much of a writer i think im giving up on it :( oh well
Am I a bad person if I thought this was sadder than "Cupcakes"?
ReplyDeleteVery good, although I'd like to see more from this universe. A lot of potential in there.
ReplyDeleteI gave this a 2/5, not because it was bad, but because it was so good. It's written very well, and the concept is solid. But the content gives me hot flashes and does other disturbing things to my psyche. I don't really have a "good in a bad way" category. So 2/5 it is.
ReplyDeleteI feel that this was... meh. The pace was too fast to really invoke emotion in me. If it would have slowed down and gone more in depth with the dialogue this could have been truly great and heart-wrenching, but I just don't feel that this had the effect that the author meant it to. I give it a 3/5. Good storytelling, but the emotion was barely there.
ReplyDeleteExcellent story, despite the fast pace. Contrary to a few other reviews, I actually liked the ending. Evidently Twilight has malicious intentions in it, no other lines are necessary. It's a bad idea, they need Mac alive.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know why I read that, but now that I have I will say I think it was very well-written. Dark and disturbing yes but it's not like I would have expected anything else from a grimdark zombie fic. I'd also be interested to see how you could possibly take this story further, if you are ever so inclined to try.
ReplyDelete@Spectre_142
ReplyDeleteNah, Cupcakes is just a gore-filled shockfest. This has some genuine emotional punch to it (especially the bit when Mac talks about Apple Bloom - I never cry but that made me get a little misty-eyed).
@ToonNinja
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it is, but with very few exceptions, it's just not my sort of thing. I'm much more of a comedy, fantasy, adventure guy.
Huh...well that was.....that
ReplyDeletenot really sure how to react here
either way, well written and lived up to its tags, 5/5
Reminds me of the original Night Of The Living Dead for some reason.
ReplyDeleteUm... Okay.
ReplyDeleteI gotta say, when I saw the combo of Zombies, Shipping, Sad and Grimdark, my mind instantly expected a tragic tale of an undead pony rising and trying to return to his love.
My mind was expecting something far too different to what I got for me to have a real opinion.
Sorry. *ponyshrug*
Was a good story very tense and twisted, but it would've been better if it paces itself a bit more to add more tension. But all in all I give it a solid 4/5
ReplyDeletePonies. I am disappoint. I mean, I don't actually know anyone who is not fully prepared for a zombie uprising.
ReplyDelete@Delta Pangaea
I did too, actually. Like, that was exactly what I was thinking.
i wonder if the other two are okay. i mean Rainbow dash and fluttershy. when i heard that pinkie pie did it i was like "CUPCAKES"
ReplyDeleteWow. I too crave and seek a second chapter.... but... it's probably better left right where it is.
ReplyDeleteWow.. this made me get misty eyed. I DEEPLY want to know what.. why.. how.. there's a whole world out there... and we only see a tiny sliver of it.
5/5
Daaamn man....
ReplyDeleteThe Applebloom part really got me tho :C
Man I´m cold as ice, I laughed at Cupcakes, and this did nothing for me, maybe is because I simply don´t like TwiMac.
ReplyDeleteAbout the ending, is obvious, the whole tragedy got into Twilight, not the first survivors start killing each other during Zombie outbreak scene.
After a story about Fluttershy I read on Deviant art recently, that nearly left me sick, I cannot bring myself to read Sad and Grimdark
ReplyDeleteThe story seems to end abruptly, as if it was not completed and it throws you into what is going on without any explanation of what caused the zombie ponies, what their means of defense is, and several other things that would be good with some explanation. It was a nice read, but needs a lot of work
ReplyDeletekinda spoiler
ReplyDeleteuhm, i disagree with read 'malicious intent' at the end. i think Twilight realized she was personifying Big Mac as the killer when it was the Eternal Night itself. i liked it. a short one-shot bit about zombie ponies. for the purposes of the story, the reasons behind them, the defense of Sweet Apple Acres, what Celestia's response to the whole thing ... these things aren't required for this fic to work. it's not about the zomponies, it's about Big Mac. it's not a 'reclaiming the world from the walking dead' fic, it's about inner strength and the will to do what's needed.
again, i'd star this 4(.5) but blogger stars hate Opera.
What does Shipping mean? I've been wondering this for a while now.
ReplyDelete@CMRawles
ReplyDeleteIn fanfic terms, Shipping = Romance. Technically it refers to the activity of supporting two characters as a couple (It's short for "relationshipping") but the tag here on EQD is used both for OC couples and couples of existing characters.
@Fluffy
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :)
man i really want the next chapter to this story. and that Applebloom part :'( thats all i gota say about that!
ReplyDelete@The_OwlI think so to.mostly I want to see how everyone gits in to this mess
ReplyDeleteumm this is too dark even for me. and i quite frankly feel almost nothing when i read things about zombies but wow. that was very dark
ReplyDeleteThis was good just didn't live to the hype of the comments honestly I found it very well written just not that sad. I really would love to see a chapter 2 also I read in the comments something about Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy but they are not in the story I want to know what happened to them also great idea flying zombies :D
ReplyDeleteWow. This story hits hard. That's about all I can say about it. I liked it, but wow.
ReplyDeleteWow. That was really sad. I saw it was only one chapter and i thought that theres no way a zombie story could be good that short. I was wrong. And the Applebloom part was really sad.
ReplyDeleteWhoah, a sequel. Didn't see that coming. Reading now.
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't know there was a sequel to the original when this third story came up. Just read through both of them.
ReplyDeleteThe second one is... Even compared to the already-dark first one, the knowledge that now Rainbow is the only one of the six left, because the little fortification Rarity, AJ and Twilight had set up didn't hold... And the way that information told, with an almost casual indifference due to denial of the horrors on RD's part, was pitch perfect. The (I assume) Dinky/Derpy thing was similarly flawless.
The third one is comparatively upbeat, but that makes it even better because you know that things are really dire, albeit perhaps not as soul-crushing as they are in the second story.
-claps- Good stuffs. I kinda like zombies and ponies, it intrigues me. I also feel sorry for... I think her name is Dinky?
