uhm yep. just wanted to say something here...
ReplyDeleteTyrant Celestia? Not sure if want. But it's Disgaea, so I'll give it a shot.
ReplyDeletehm, somewhat evil characters.. I don't know the original context (whereever the crossover came from) so I probably won't understand this..
ReplyDelete*squeals like a little girl*
ReplyDeleteseems interesting may give it a read later.
ReplyDeleteI love Disgaea. Bookmarking this one for later
ReplyDeleteOh? An intro and a prologue? Huh...
ReplyDeleteOMG NO READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
ReplyDeleteJAKE HERITAGU????
ReplyDeletewait i already read this because i was watching him on dA
Cool, it's finally posted here.
ReplyDeleteWhoever did the vector art for that title pic did an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteOk. Disgaea/FIM? I am SO there.
ReplyDelete@Ferrarity69
ReplyDeleteAh made it mahself :3
Also, I just noticed the Prologue and Part 1 is linked to DA...I'm fairly certain I linked them to do the Google Docs one, as I added music and pictures to those versions. -Lets Seth know-
Tyrant Celestia? Oh,god,Not AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what took so long for someone to think of Disgaea. I'm also a fan of Makai Kingdom, because it has one badass overlord.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I'm guessing Fluttershy is playing Flonne and Rarity is the Etna proxy.
~wonders if prinnies are involved~
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes. Just... YES.
ReplyDeleteTyrannical in this case is being a benevolent ruler.
ReplyDeleteI've only herd of Disgaea and I like this
ReplyDelete10/10
I'm a Disgaea Fan so this is pretty much the first Fanfic I'm gonna read (excluding Cupcakes)
ReplyDeleteThis is... odd.
ReplyDeleteSo very odd...
I like that tyrannical Celestia is being tyrannical by being benevolent. It's very Disgaea.
What the, what WUT!
ReplyDeleteAs a massive Disgaea fan, I am contractually obliged to read this.
Disgaea? Count me in! It's a bit fast-paced, but I'm enjoying it so far, definitely feels like a Disgaea game, haha!
ReplyDeleteIt won't be perfect until you chuck "Do Your Best, Girl" in there, though, Jake!
@Terse
ReplyDeleteOh it's going to be a little fast paced at first, but there's a LOOOOOOOT planned. The half way mark is currently planned at chapter 5, with each chapter having about 4 parts to it.
I'm also amused at how many comments of "OMG AWESOME" and the story is sitting around 4 Stars XD (Good thing I do this for fun and don't care about the star rating haha)
Someone needs to draw Laharl, Flonne and Etna as ponies.
ReplyDeleteDisgaea is one of my favorite series.
ReplyDeleteAnd now ponies.
Must read this...I never read fanfics, but this will be read. Two of the best things ever.
To be fair, the whole "Overlord" Celestia is due to this being set in the Netherworld.
ReplyDeleteIt's kinda obvious that they're trying to overthrow her because she's just as nice and benevolent as canon Princess Celestia.
@Jake Heritagu Sounds good to me, man, looking forward to it! It's not my place to provide a detailed critique or anything, and that sort-of-jerky pacing was my only real problem with it. It's great so far, though, you're capturing the spirits of the source materials really well! Just keep at it, and maybe have a proofreader of some note in whatever area of the fandom you reside in look it over to catch the errors you've missed!
ReplyDeleteAnd no worries, I know that feeling, haha! Let it be known that the positivity in the comments is entirely justified, at least from my position!

ReplyDelete...what is this. WHAT IS THIS?!?!?!
*grabs Jake*
HOW DARE YOU BREAK THE SACRED CODE!!!!! YOU HAVE BETRAYED THE ORDER!!!!!
Hmm, you know what ill favorite this and when I'm done with some of the other fics I'm reading, I'll give it a shot :)
ReplyDeleteQuite honestly, the fast pace feels quite reminiscent of a Disgaea Game's pacing... which isn't necessarily GOOD in its own right (as Disgaea was paced a little too quickly as well), but certainly is faithful to the source material.
ReplyDeleteI find it intriguing how all the characters are simultaneously in-character while being out-of-character. Twilight takes cues from Mao, but she's still fairly recognizable as herself, even if exaggerated. Spike is basically identical to himself, and even Rainbow Dash is only mildly more self-absorbed than usual.
In short, I adore this thusfar.
First off. I like what I'm reading so far, it feels very... Disgaea. Well done.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I read the comment, the number of people who simply read it as 'tyrant Celestia' without getting the joke makes me a sad.
Thirdly there is a... tradition, in Disgaea concerning the identify of the person speaking the opening narration. If you keep that tradition in this fic, this will be the best fic on ED.
I don't know...
ReplyDeleteIt seems like it's just pallet swapping in ponies for other characters in the regular story. I've never played Disgaea before, so I don't really know if that's true, but that's what it seems to read like. Especially when you keep referring to all the ponies as "demons." It's like you just copy-pasted everyone's names to replace other characters.
Of course I can't be sure if this is a proper assessment. After all, I've never played this game. But a good crossover perfectly combines elements of the two stories into one whole. This... this just seems really mismatched at best and a pallet swap at worst...
Well it's certainly not like the story of 1 or 2, dunno about 3 (and since 4 just came out in English I doubt it's that).
ReplyDeleteIt's most certainly got a Disgaea 'feel' while keeping true to the characters. And yes, they pretty much act like that -- they pretend be evil but really the majority of them are more chaotic neutral than anything.
@Dusty the Royal Janitor
ReplyDeleteI've played the games, and I can assure you that no, the characters aren't pallet swaps of Disgaea characters. Twilight has passing resemblances to Mao and a touch of Laharl, but her story seems to be entirely different.
Ponies are called 'demons' because they are a type of demon in this story. As the latest installment shows, there are multiple types of demon, the dominant one in this netherworld seemingly being pony.
Basically, all the characters are keeping their show-personlities, just with a Disgaea-twist. Applejack is still devoted to the apple family and her farm, except now she's also extorting the price of her fruit to make a bigger profit. Rainbow Dash is still adored, competitive and a show off, but being a demon, her pride is now exaggerated.
In a nutshell, this is exactly how I would picture the Mane Cast if they had grown up in a Netherworld rather than Equestria. If this fic goes the same way any given Disgaea game will go, I'm sure the cast will show a bit more emotional complexity as they go on; after all, the central tenant in all Disgaea is "Don't judge a book by it's cover" after all.
Well that was fun. My only gripe is that you keep using 'yea' instead of 'yeah'. That kind-of annoyed me, but apparently both are correct, so whatever.
ReplyDelete>tyrannical rule over the Netherworld.
ReplyDelete-The Netherworld you say ? ...hmm, well, that's not ''directly'' Equestria... kinda falls into 'alternative reality'... allows for a bit more liberties (though I hope not TOO much were taken).
Jake Heritagu ? ...Maybe read soon.
Oh my. How did I miss this earlier. I love the Disgae games. I look forward to reading this.
ReplyDeleteonly 7300 more pageviews until 40,000,000!
ReplyDeletethis is pretty interesting. I wonder if there is some ancient evil (hint hint) that Celestia is keeping contained with the raw amount of friendship her underworld is producing?
ReplyDeleteMaybe?
Teeheehee oh man this story :P
ReplyDeleteAnd a Trixie enduing :P
And I can already see what the end result of the whole quest will be ahahahaha, genius.
@Melodia
ReplyDeleteOh you do huh? I never let my writing get too predictable. So I hope you won't be in too much of a surprise over what happens X3
Well let me say, that IF what I think is going to happen, happens, then it's utterly perfect, fitting with a crossover of the two series.
ReplyDeleteI could be totally and completely off of course.
I am a weeapony. And this makes happy.

ReplyDeleteJust added the fic to the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfic reccomendations page on tvtropes for later.
ReplyDeleteDidn't P0N-3 speak in the extended Equestria Girls video?
ReplyDelete@Stargazer
ReplyDeleteThey are involved
OK, this is really good and funny. I've never been a huge fan of Disgaea, but seeing these versions of the ponies is awesome.
ReplyDeleteHrm... I wonder if Discord is going to show up?
ReplyDeleteHopefully after the current run of Silent Ponyville this will continue.
