Season Two is now available the same way Season one was on itunes. You can buy each episode for 2.99, or an HD season pass for 49.99 (With SD being 10 bucks cheaper). Amazingly enough, Twilight Sparkle has all of her hooves on the banner this time around! I'm so relieved.
Check out the store page here!
Thanks to Brian for the heads up.

Hellz yea
VastaKustutaAnd first
VastaKustutaWait, you can buy the episodes. That's news to me.
VastaKustutaGood, think we've had enough weird looking twilight error Menes...
VastaKustuta@TundraTerror
VastaKustutaYes. According to Hasbro, the episodes are available within 1-2 days after they air. We don't have to wait long.
Awesome! This means we could get the episodes in a few day - after their air on TV - in HD, without watermarks and in 5.1 audio... JUST AWESOME!
VastaKustutaOops I typed this on my iPod before going to sleep...So much typos...
VastaKustuta(Man, $50's a lot, don't you think?)
@DeRockProject
VastaKustutaI would pay 50$ for a DVD but I have a hard time wanting to buy something for 50$ that I can't hold.
@DeRockProject
VastaKustuta$50 is the same price as season 1. Also, $50 in the equivalent of a Blu-Ray rip for a full season is better than what you'd pay for several DVDs.
Is season 2 on itunes washed out like season 1 was?
VastaKustutaStill only in the US it seems. UK iTunes doesn't even show any sign of season 1 yet. Forced to piracy. :-(
VastaKustuta@DeRockProject
VastaKustutaI think it's a very fair price; I'd pay that without batting an eye for a season on DVD. That's also 33% cheaper than buying each episode separately, and I think 3$ is a fair per episode price too.
YAY 1080p 5.1 Ponies!! I think its worth it, unless they come out with special features for the blu-ray.
VastaKustutaThank goodness I have $25 credit left in my iTunes account. I have no problem paying that amount for a 26-episode show. If you think that's expensive, you should see how much Anime Blu-Rays like "K-On!" costs. 13 episode series on 3 discs will cost you around 65-70 MSRP.
VastaKustuta@darksasami
VastaKustutaSeason 1 didn't look washed out to me in iTunes. But you can always fix it with a color profile setting. Some of the DRM-free conversions that were done from the iTunes rips DID have color problems, though.
The 'washed out' effect is some kind of weird color space bug. I'm not too familiar with the details, but not every episode is affected.
VastaKustutaHere is some copy&paste from the old S1 days:
"ColorYUV(gamma_y=-24,gamma_u=-24,gamma_v=-24) Gradfun2db(1.51)
As this encode suffers from the quicktime gamma bug, tunning gamma down on playback completly removes it, my testing shows that -24(-256 being 0.0 gamma) brings it back to original value and using debanding filter twice leaves artifact so use once only."
M 2 cents: Fixing it for playback is possible in VLC for example. Just don't think that decoding, fixing the mistake, and encoding it again is a good idea. You will lose quality that way.
I gotta say (and I would GLADLY pay 50 bucks to support the show...) It looks terrible.. I mean, it looks exactly like 480p on youtube... and I am not one to usually complain about quality. I mean, I'd just watch it on my computer anyway, but if I'm gonna pay 50 bucks (or even 40!) for something, I damn sure want it to look better than that... Damn shame, I'd love to do it.
VastaKustutaIf only they would finally release season 1 on Blu-Ray.
VastaKustutaAren't iTunes videos only 720p, or have they upgraded to 1080p sometime between the time I used to drool over every Apple product to when I decided I'd never even want to own an iPhone?
VastaKustutaRegardless... I don't care about the intangible. If I'm gonna spend that much, I want Season 1 on BluRay, and I want to buy Season 2 when it comes out on BluRay as well!
For the time being, I'll continue to watch online and give Hasbro my support through toy purchases instead.
Why pay 2.99. When i have it on my DVR in in 1080P 5.1 for free.
VastaKustutaIf Hasbro want's my money, they will have to make a Blue ray.
Just once it would be nice to see Twilight in a different pose, its all variations of her standing like that.
VastaKustutaI think its amusing that someponies HAVE to have 1080 friggin p. In my experience, the difference between standard def and HD for a comedy cartoon is negligible. I mean if you're talking about some anime with apeshit million-dollars-an-episode animation detail like say...Afro Samurai, okay. But something like MLP or Futurama or Family Guy? Pfft. Total waste of drive space or bandwidth if you ask me.
VastaKustutaAnd LOL @ anybody blowing $50 on this. The internet has this massive infrastructure dedicated to handing eps over to you for free and you're gonna pay for it? You see that orange link at the top of the page? Hell, Hasbro straight up told ya'll they only care about TOY sales. You wanna support MLP, buy some of those still-incredibly-crappy-looking-if-you-ask-me plastic ponies.
It would be nice to get any offical realase over here in the uk. Surely they can see the demand for releasing season 1 (and 2) in ANY format overseas.
VastaKustuta@richfiles
VastaKustutaThey're 720p. Also, the show is broadcast in 720p but upscaled to 1080p because that's what HD networks broadcast at. In reality, those "1080p" rips are still 720p.
@StrangeNoise
VastaKustutaSame here in Italy =/
To Anypony who can buy them, make sure you do!
VastaKustutaIt'll help ensure we get more Pony in the future and it'll be helpful for the animation industry!
I mean, this show actually TRIES (and succeeds!) at being good!
Just think...people actually putting effort into their cartoons...for any network trying to put down the free-spirited creators out there, they can just show MLP statistics as a model for how well good shows can do! :D
Genre: Kids
VastaKustutasure thing Apple, whatever you say.
@mizu-takishima
VastaKustutaAssuming Hasbro and The Hub are smart enough to take new revenue and viewership streams like iTunes into account... TV companies haven't exactly figured that out, if SyFy's attitude is any indication. They just flat out said they didn't look at iTunes numbers during the whole Caprica cancelation uproar because they had no idea how to quantify them. I think it's a BS argument on their part, but marketing and bean-counters aren't terribly renowned for their logical thinking :P.
Anyway, bought and eagerly awaiting the next one. So nice not having the watermarks and overlays all over it, and it really is kinda surprising how much better animation looks in HD. Need to do something about the album art though, I really dislike that stock Twilight vector.
I went to go buy them but apparently Australians aren't allowed to. So i just torrented them all.
VastaKustutai just used savevid.com to get the latest off youtube, i'll wait a couple more episodes before buying the season on itunes
VastaKustuta@AtomicBrony
VastaKustuta>Also, the show is broadcast in 720p but upscaled to 1080p
Are you sure about that?
I would have no issue at all with buying an entire season in 1080p for 50 bones. As a major fan, it almost pains me to pirate.
VastaKustutaToo bad I utterly detest anything related to Apple proprietary software, so iTunes will never touch any of my hardware. Perhaps Amazon will get it one day. Hint, hint Hasbro?
UK fan here. I'm still stuck with no way to purchase S1 from iTunes either. Come on Hasbro, my monies aren't where they belong yet...
VastaKustutaI requested it about a month ago, though it may still take them a while to release all the episodes.
We'll that does me no good since I'm in Australia. Really awesome things seem to really screw with Australia. Oh well I'll make do with the rips :)
VastaKustuta@thebookkeeper Yeah, I think they've missed a trick over here. There are umpteen pony podcasts available, but not one episode.
VastaKustutaYou'd think if they cared about those, at the very least they would fix the color bug. Apparently they didn't though, so it's safe to assume nobody important pays any attention to the iTunes sales.
VastaKustutaDoes this mean we'll get sans watermark and TVY/CC stamp episodes on YouTube?
VastaKustutaAustralia's great and all, but we keep getting screwed over on things like this...
VastaKustuta@mycutiemarkisagun
VastaKustutaThat's like saying the difference between a 720p and 1080p vector image is negligible. It's not. 1080p will look much crisper when stretched than a 720p image.
Sure, a lot of Western animation companies focus on animation instead of pushing as much detail into each frame as possible as some Eastern animators. But the line art is STILL something to be noticed. The crisper the line art, the better. The difference is immense, stretching a 720p to 22 inches or so and stretching a 1080p image to 22 inches or so. If I can notice the huge difference in line art sharpness at less than 20 inches, imagine how much different it looks on a 40 inch screen or so.
I'm sorry, but you don't have to do something very Japanese with animation like shove a whole bunch of tiny detain and use itty bitty line art in a show in order for 1080p to be worth it. It is. Look at that line art up close when it's stretched and tell me you it doesn't look much better at a higher bitrate and a higher resolution.
I WOULD buy this. But me and my Canadian awesomeness is preventing me from taking away any advantage that American's have over us.
VastaKustutaPerhaps now would be the time to mention that the previous "720p" and "1080p" videos are actually poorly deinterlaced 1080i videos? The only real 720p videos are available on iTunes.
VastaKustutaI just download them from youtubr at 720p or higher and watch them on my iphone4 :P
VastaKustuta+1 needs to be available outside the US iTunes store.
VastaKustuta@MaKS
VastaKustutaHave you ever delt with Apple?
When you submit a TV show or movie to iTunes you have to submit it in an un encoded raw format, Apple then encode it for you. If thier are any problems with the encoding Apple made then thats tougth for you as Apple won't botther fixxing it.
It may look like Twilight has all her legs, but one of them is a fake.
VastaKustuta♪ And I'm not telling whi~ch~ ♪
Ugh, iTunes again... Well, I suppose gratz to you Americans.
VastaKustutaBut well, iTunes doesn't let people from other nationalities, like i.e. Scandinavia, buy there (it's not available in the Norwegian version of the store, and the American version forces you to have a bank account in America to buy).
Hasbro would made so much more on the episodes if they released it for purchase somewhere more international friendly. <__<
Aww, I kind of like worm Twilight. It was a bad mistake but it did give a little extra flavor to the sterile iTunes page.
VastaKustutaI'd only pay 50 bucks for a full season DVD. I want to be able to lie back on a sofa, wear a smoking jacket, drink some whiskey out of a high glass and watch ponies.
I just bought the first episode (because, you know, I feel like I should somehow be giving my money to Hasbro). But the color is washed out/desaturated like the season 1 episodes were.
VastaKustutaIf you wanna feel good about it, you could buy the episodes on iTunes but then wait for the DRM-free versions to pop up, because then you can apply proper color correction and watch it on more than just Apple products....
(The Web-DL for this episode is already up)
But I should add, a Blu-Ray would be infinitely better!!
VastaKustutaSweet, Im in the process of downloading it now. I have no problem supporting the show thought iTunes. And when they have a Bluray I'll buy that too. But I really like the convenience of playing MLP through my Apple TV.
VastaKustutaMore purcahseable pony for a personal platform? Perfect! Please take money, it's all for you.
VastaKustutaoooooor you can go on piratebay and.....
VastaKustutaI'd still rather have a complete DVD. I'm just a collector that way
VastaKustutaThat "buy season pass" button is sooo tempting! But I know I'd be annoyed when a DVD comes out later.
VastaKustutaI love ponies, but there is no way in hell I am poisoning my computer with something from Apple.
VastaKustutaStill waiting for that complete season 1 DVD...
VastaKustutaDone and done. I'd been checking iTunes once a day for season 2 and I guess it just took a few days to get into the system - but now S02 is happily sitting right next to S01. :)
VastaKustutaAnd to the above who said if Apple goofs the encode you're screwed - wrong. Apple re-released one episode from last year because they didn't feel the audio was quite right... If it's a bad encode, they'll fix it.
And, what's with all the 'freetard' up in here? HasBRO has been nothing but *great* to us allowing their IP to be used, freely, for all sorts of cool stuff, yet when they ask for $3 for an episode (Less than a McMeal for pete's sake) everyone goes all 'YooToob R1p 0n teh T0rr3ntz FTW!"... Sigh.
Hasbro folks - we know you're watching - I hope your accounting folks continue to see a reason to run the show, we love it - even if some of our members are above paying for, well, anything media-related. :P
Get a job ya damn hippies! (grin)
1) Outfit Hasbro toy factories with machinery (or even a whole wing) to produce show-accurate toys and plushies.
VastaKustuta2) ?????
3) [Something about constantly running out of pink and yellow fabric]
4) Profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit-profit...
Just as soon as I get my next paycheck...
VastaKustutaAwesome, I was wondering how long this would take.
VastaKustutaI am still hoping for a UK Release, and maybe a Fluttershy Plushie to go with it.
VastaKustutaI'm waiting for the DVD(s) when it/they eventually come. I WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO THE TEMPTATION! Anyway, I'm already supporting iTunes with my purchase of a season pass of Young Justice. They don't need more of my money
VastaKustutaIt's not available in Canada, so unfortunately, I'm forced to torrent the iTunes rips...
VastaKustutaGlad I have no problems here, I ponied up and got the season pass. I love being able to play any episode any time without those logos and poor Youtube renderings. Plus, this would always be my way in supporting the show since I don't buy the toys.
VastaKustutaI didn't buy a season pass last time around because it was sixty dollars, but now that it's been knocked down a bit maybe I will...
VastaKustutaI cannot quantify how much I despise that Hub logo and those Celestia-forsaken title bars.
I got S1 an' I'm gonna git S2, on iTunes. Color may be a mite fadey but I wonder if the broadcasters pump it up? Them iTunes ones seem jes' cleaner somehow, and play real smooth.
VastaKustutaGot a Rarity-type friend who remuxes a 5.1 stream into 'em and is best pony =D
An' I do NOT like logos gettin all on my ponies XD
VastaKustutaDownloading now! Woot!
VastaKustutaItunes, meh. :P
VastaKustutaWhat's this? A $50 iTunes card that's been on my desk for the past 2 weeks. Well who am I to look a gift pony in the mouth.
VastaKustuta*Purchases*
Mmm, forethought.
Would buy it if it wasn't DRM protected...
VastaKustutaPlus my iPod is only 8gb :P
The fact that it's not available in the UK store is highly irritating >.<
VastaKustuta@TundraTerror
VastaKustutaLol, same. Didn't realise till now.
Money well spent.
VastaKustutatake note that some of the torrents of the iTunes rips are being taken down by their respective torrent sites. dont want nopony gettin sued.
VastaKustutaGuys, Spike is a weird dragon.
VastaKustuta@ShadowTani
VastaKustutaAh, I remember this from my good old days of simply wanting to buy from the Japanese iTunes store, because I'm a weeaboo.
Region restrictions are so stupid. And that practice alone seems like a good reason not to support iTunes in ANYTHING. I mean, I know people who only bought a PlayStation 3 of the three consoles this generation because it was region free. And I respect that.
Put it on Zune Marketplace Hasbro and I might just buy it before a Blu-Ray release.
VastaKustutaWell, that's good. While I honestly would never buy anything off of iTunes, because I hate Apple's business practices. It means episodes without the dang trail promos will be released into the aether.
VastaKustutaC'mon Hasbro! Please give us *ANYTHING* but iTunes. Give us a choice. I will gladly and immediately buy both entire seasons if
VastaKustutaa) It's released on Blu-Ray or
b) It's released without the horribly limiting FairPlay DRM (which I know is not gonna happen, but if I pay for something I want to know that I can continually transfer it to other devices, easily move it to new computers when I upgrade, stream it over my home network, etc. etc. etc. which you can't do with iTunes unless you exclusively use Apple products)
@mycutiemarkisagun 1080p has 6.75 times the number of pixels as 480p. 720p has 3 times the pixels as 480p. There's absolutely no way you can spin that off as negligible. If you can't notice the difference, you need better eyes. Also, SD looks awful on 1080p displays, which a lot of people have nowadays.
VastaKustutaCan you still enjoy a cartoon in standard definition? Yes. But if I'm paying $50 for it I want my money's worth.
I don't want to hand my money to Apple, sorry Hasbro. I bought T shirts from you, and I'll buy other merchandise including Blu-rays and DVDs, but I won't buy from iTunes, that means I am giving Apple a cut of the money, and that won't happen. Plus I'll then have to deal with the DRM bullshit that Apple loves so much, along with quicktime format that is obsolete.
VastaKustutaThe only plus side to this is that it means we'll see HD watermark free rips eventually.
I'm with a lot of the commenters here. I get The Hub in 720p at my house, and I rip it directly from there to my computer to get the high quality version of the show (and then post it on YouTube :P). HOWEVER, if given a chance to buy them on places like, say, Amazon, I'd do it in a heartbeat! I just dislike iTunes to a point that I will actively avoid it, even if it does bring me 1080p ponies.
VastaKustutaHey, anybody else have trouble buying the season pass, cause I can't buy it at all, no matter how many times I click it.
VastaKustutaAmazingly enough, Twilight Sparkle has all of her hooves on the banner this time around!
VastaKustutaWait, what? I never noticed.
Either way, it's just a couple of random vectors of Twilight and Spike with an overly simplistic background slapped on. Eugh. I'm definitely making my own. It'll still be vectors, but I'll at least put some effort into it.
@KazaKaza I agree. I guess it's because of the notion of Apple just swiping it away.
@AtomicBrony
Wait, what? If that's right, then it explains a lot about the 1080p of S2E01. It could just be that the recording equipment can't go up to 1080p, though, so I'm skeptical.
@Bobbyzero
I agree on the pirating- I only pirate if I need sources for, say, PMVs or whatever. I did download the 720p rip, but only because it wasn't on iTunes yet. (It didn't take as long as I had expected.)
I have no problem with iTunes, though. If it works, it works.
@Dashie
You bet your flank it does! Well, I'm 99% sure, anyway.
@Ryan
I usually just roll my eyes at country pride, but "Canadian awesomeness" got me here. Seriously, corporate world, give these guys the upper hand for once. Let's not forget that Studio B is located in Canada. I'm sure they would appreciate it on iTunes to show to friends and family.
Given that's what you're saying and Canada is seriously not getting this. Otherwise I just made myself look like an idiot.
@InfinityDash
I don't upgrade computers much- it's probably just my age and budget, though. Either way, it's not much of a problem to me unless I want to edit in Vegas... which I need to buy since my trial ran out.
I don't have many devices to put this on, anyway. I'm fine with just slapping it on my Touch. So basically, I don't have any real problem with iTunes, sans region lock.
Either way, best of luck with your endeavors. Until and if that happens, remember you can always buy it then get the rips somewhere else. It's tedious, it's a big download, but it'll have to do for now.
I'll stop reading these comments before this gets any longer. Holy horseapples.
