1. Oh my... 15 minute epic. Writing stuff as I think about it (get ready for uncohesive thoughts). I like your interpretation of Luna's story! I'm not really one for ambient noises though. I really liked the organ movement! ohwow... electronic music. YAY! more organ! That MLP theme arrangement was good! I listened to this in its entirety.
2. I'm so glad you got that mic I recommended. This sounds so good for piano improv! I wish I could play like that at a whim.
3. For the record: Penstroke made me cry at least two times.
The Nightmare Symphony was pretty darn good. And I love to see some Past Sins inspired music, I just felt that this one could have been a bit slower and more emotion, maybe even have a more dramatic/frightful section, and over all not be so redundant. It also had more of a "Forest/Nature" feel to it, but maybe that's just me. It was still good though. They were all very well done.
@SgtGarand well the original plan was a 3 movement kazoo concerto. This would have been the 2nd movement if that were the case (and if I had a decent alto to kazoo for a pony song).
@Overkillius Kazoo... So, it's suppose to be a song that Nyx wrote for/about Twilight? Either way it's still good. Any plans on doing the other two movements?
#2 I would say, is rated just about at 4 stars maybe a little bit more than that, but I found it a bit dry, it sounded nice, but if it;s a softer song then I usually want either continuous note playing or semi continuous with long pauses, of sorts, spread throughout the song , but not too often. I feel this song had too many small pauses, I find that pauses are usually most effective at letting emotions sink in rather than just being time/breaks between sections of a song. (well I learned that if I ever want to write something that I've got to drink Bawls cause it apparently makes me very analytical, as well as energetic, good thing I don't get hyper, huh?)
#1 was very nice, I really could feel the theme and the rain SFX always does a good job of getting the point across that something sad has happened or is happening.(oh man, I'm totally crashing now, don't be surprised if the remainder of the comment becomes even more incomprehensible) I like these epic length song that have the music genre' evolve with time.
@SgtGarand Nah not something written by the characters. It is really just an orchestration of Twilights thoughts. The kazoo part (in this recording it is the Clarinet 1 if you look on the sheet music.) literally represents the idea of Nyx to Twilight. I currently have no plans to flesh out my ideas on the other movements, but who knows? I might do it for whatever reason later in life... Considering I've been making music for about 5 months I am really proud of this song though!
After listening to 1st, I had to pick my jaw back up off the floor. Truly a masterful and beautiful audio experience. Two thum... Er, I mean Hooves up ^^

ReplyDeleteWhat doll is Twilight sleeping with?
ReplyDelete@Hymmnos
ReplyDeleteThat's actually Nyx, Twilight's adopted filly daughter from the fan fic "Past Sins", a good read imho.
@Hymnos , its a not a doll it's Nyx, she is a young filly. You need to read past sins to really understand.

tbh, I liked the most of what was done with #2, but I thought the minor chords were a little jarring with the overall feeling of the piece.
ReplyDeleteOh and wow the past sins inspired music is really really good.
ReplyDelete@Shaun Hegney
ReplyDeleteIf you like that one, you should check out this one in an older music post.

#1 Was a little too inconsistant for me, and I heard a few too many electronic sounds for it to be a "symphony" piece
