Tarby is one of my favourite musicians right now. After releasing "Something Broke" he's right up there on my list of favourites, so naturally I really like #1
Further thoughts: #2 RnB style, very nice. #3 I really like this track, I need to download the moment it becomes available #4 Such a happy track, despite the high tempo, it's actually very relaxing
#1 Pretty good #2 Nice, smooth, and a little jazzy. I like it. #3 Is it wrong of me that I conjured up images of a pony version of Tron in my head upon hearing this? *thumbs up to Retrupack* Excellent job! :D #4 Nice and mellow, but way too repetative and the first part of the tune seems oddly familiar.
*ahem* On to judging music 1. I applaude anyone who can make a song in which they sing sound good! Really liked it. 2. This song make me sleepy, which is probably good since i'm writing this while sick, and I SHOULD be in bed! Oh well... 3. Am I the only one who does shifty eyes while listening to the intro? Very cool sounding. 4. Again, another cool sounding sleepy song, But I think I like this one better then #2 however...
I love Tarby's work as well, I didn't even know who he was until I heard, "Something Broke." His work is great, the only way he could improve his work is, like he has said before, get a better microphone for recording(I think he said it was a Rock Band microphone that he's been using).
#2 is pretty good.
I like #3, the music sort of reminds me of the music played in Deus Ex: HR.
#4 was something that I could imagine being played as BG music while Fluttershy goes about her daily business, it's really a nice piece.
Ah, I remember that first song now when it was done by Jackle App. Thought it sounded familiar. Very nicely done. That song so sad but so wonderful. And the lyrics are simply great. Inspired piece.
Second is rather nice and calm. Without being too boring, which is nice.
I quite like the third, not really sure exactly why. lol But it's an interesting and rather cool tune.
Fourth song was rather nice as well. Sounds maybe like a song I could attribute to Fluttershy. :P
When I saw #1 was by tarby rocks, I decided to listen to it religiously, and it was great, but I realized you can't listen to that type of music in any other way. Some music you can just have them running in background and grooving while you do something else, but tarby's music (and I guess most of progressive rock) you have to stop and LISTEN to appreciate.
I logged on to my email to find something along the lines of 20 new subscribers and about 10 new comments. My immediate reaction: "Was i put on EqD...? o.O" lmao - Tarby
I remember when the original of #1 came out. I thought it was ok, and certainly novel, but not fantastic. I find this remix, however, to be awesome. Excuse me while I listen to it for a third time.
Love the show, love the site but we SERIOUSLY need to stop perpetuating the whole Alicorn = winged unicorn thing. Alicorn is the material that unicorn horns are made of, its not a type of pony.
Of the four here I liked RestrainedMadness' Fluttershy Smiles the most. (Great title too.) Light and airy, a little repetitive, but great riffs. I hope this gets picked up and reworked in new ways in the next Remix Wars. The Ovenbird (a kind of North American wood thrush) was a nice touch. 8^) Damn, the more I listen to Fluttershy Smiles, the more I like it.
@PogosamaThe proper term is pegacorn, a portmonteau word formed from pegasus and unicorn. While alicorn has a nicer sound to it on its own, I kind of like the alliteration in Ballad of the Pegacorn Princess. Through repetive usage, "alicorn" is gaining ground as an accepted synonym for pegacorn.
I'm going to side with the term Alicorn here. It sounds a lot better, and really, any word can mean anything. There's no rules saying a word can only have one definition. New words and definitions are added to official dictionaries every month. Language is whatever the general populace makes it.
Alicorn has now taken the meaning of Winged Unicorn (or Horned Pegasus, depending on how you look at it). We are a big enough community we can decide what we want something to be called, regardless of the archaic meaning.
Gay, for example (no offense to anyone) has taken on a completely different connotation, and it's completely acceptable.
Besides, Alicorn is way better than Pegacorn or Unisus, and the fact that I got both of them off of Word Girl is reason enough to not use them.
Alicorn is indeed the material that unicorn horns are made out of.
But honestly, Pegacorn and Unisus both sound terrible. I am pretty sure even Lauren Faust calls them alicorns. Plus, as someone else said, we can make up our own words/definitions if we want to, especially such a widespread one such as this.
They're all lovely but if you're going to go to the trouble of specifying a song as a ballad #2, it needs words. No words; no ballad. Not tryin to be a grammar nazi, but I mean c'mon. It's like saying look at my charcoal oil painting.
After the 100 messages I got debating the term of Alicorn and Ballad, I changed it to Song of the Alicorn Princess. I'm sticking with Alicorn here, but Ballad was incorrect, and that was my mistake. :)

#1 is really fantastic. Scootaloo's Wings already packed a strong emotional punch, and this remix makes it even better.

The other three tracks are pleasant enough, but the first one is a keeper.

ReplyDelete2. A slow sentimental or romantic song.
4. the music for a ballad.
Works for me!
