Hooray for more music, these always make my day better when im bored.
ReplyDeleteWinter Wrap Up in French? O.o
ReplyDeleteSo much music, I don't know if my Ipad can hold anymore especially after that 858 mp3 download :(
ReplyDeleteI won't, ever, be used to the french versions of the songs.......
ReplyDeletePremière!
ReplyDeleteAhem...
I liked the 2nd one! :D
Also The french is awkward, but I like it for some reason... It makes me want to learn french
ReplyDeleteThe French one is nice. The lyrics fit nicely with the melody.
ReplyDeleteyay J'♥ la version française ^^ the others are good too!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, the French version is alright, but their Applejack obviously isn't a very strong singer, and it came through during her solo.
ReplyDeleteStill, really liked number 1. I might have to save it, to get me in the right mood for the...darker parts of my fic.
Oh shit, I've found something in post-Napoleon French that I like.
ReplyDeleteI -still- don't like their French voices, even if I do know French. Just can't help it.
ReplyDeleteMust be my Canadianess showing, but I love those french mixes.
ReplyDeleteLow grade samples shot and killed my enjoyment of #1. Low grade samples are wanted for murder.
WOW, the french voices seem so of, ESPECIALLY PINKIES O_o
ReplyDeleteTwilight's French singer has a nice voice.
ReplyDeleteTwilight's French Singer is spot on
ReplyDeleteThe french singing is so cute.
ReplyDeleteTwilight was the only the only one I didn't really like tbh. And Applejack, who sounded like a boy.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the direct translation of the french name of the song is "Winter retreats" (inb4jokeaboutthefrenchbeingcowards). Just in case anyone's curious.
Applejack's accent in French....
ReplyDeleteBut, Ponies in French? I think I'm in Love...
I love the French Winter Wrap up, but holy hell is lip synching off. I didn't realize that French and English had such different mouth shapes that the differences would show up in characters without lips.
ReplyDeleteDespite the fact I've sworn off ever trying to practice French again, I can appreciate the language quite a bit. It's fairly nice, but the person they chose for Twilight stole the show, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteFirst song is nice, Maybe a little soft for my tastes, but I still liked it.
ReplyDeleteSecond was okay. Fun little mix.
And the French versions still make me giggle. Since I don't speak French and it just sounds silly to me. :P Fun to listen to though and cute.
@SomeFrenchBrony
ReplyDeleteOh, TELL me about it. I don't know if it's the approximate translation job or the... just-not-as-good-as-the-original-version voice acting and singing, but really, I can't get used to those songs either.
Good points to Twilight's French singing voice, though, and Rarity sounds like she has potential. We'll see if she pulls off Art of the Dress.
Pinkie's voice in french... kinda freaked me out.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad, waht I feared is currently happening, the french version of MLP"FIm have some of the worst VA ive heard (main language is french BTW) twilight is all right so is fluttershy, but damn, Rainbow dash and Rarity weren't so lucky. as fir the lyrics translation I had tought of french lyrics that would fit better without losing the meaning of half the song. instead of: L'hiver s'enfuit (wich is pretty much: winter is runnign away) I would have said : Rangement d'hiver (winter cleanup). But at least they did a better job than for the theme song, oh god the off synchness and the horrible integral translation, I felt like I was hearing 5 years old trying to sing, they should have done like the italian version and changed the music to at least be able to fit their lyrics.
ReplyDeleteI like Pinkie's french voice way better. I'm reminded of someone stepping on a squeaky toy when Pinkie speaks in english... her french is far easier on the ears.
ReplyDeleteFrench one, is it one person doing all the voices or something? sounds like the same (also shaky voice, or is it French thing?) well, it's better than JPNese one for sure.
ReplyDeleteI kinda like the French version... i am not sure why
ReplyDeleteFirst song: loved it
ReplyDeleteSecond song: pretty good
Third song: woah. didn't expect that. but it was good. pinkie's voice isn't as happy....
@Atiarotias
ReplyDeletenah it's just that france is amongst those countries who don't consider cartoon like shows worth to put any effort in them, they don't hire a VA because he/she can do the job, they hire them just because they don't want to look for someone who actually want to play the role, so we always end up having peoples who sounds like they are just reading a piece of paper, or voices that mismatch the characters so much it hurts. I hope the french quebec version will be better if we end up getting this (in quebec we have the Voice actors guild or something like that, wich mean everything have to be dubbed by actors from here, unless the contract forbid them to)
Yeah I definitely won't try to convert new bronies with the French version of the show. MlP:FiM is a whole, a kid's show made with talent and application at all the levels. The French version lacks good voice actors and it's enough to bring it down to the level of all the lame kid's show we have seen until now.
ReplyDeleteHeh, I guess at least my nieces will still like it :)
Up and coming music talent is always welcome.
ReplyDeleteIf only you could know how bucking LAME the french version of WWU is... It's my favorite song of the show, and I've long hesitated before clicking on the play button. It was a big mistake.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, the voices are terrible. Rarity and Rainbow Dash are just ruined, but Pinkie Pis is even more dreadful: she's got such a vocabulary... This french version reminds us that MLP is actually a show for little girls, because it seems like Pinkie is talking to 5-year-old children...
Above that, we can hear that the song isn't written for the french language. It's not their fault, they tried their best, but, frankly, these translations, no, just no.
Now my eyes are tearing, and my ears bleeding. Nice job, french laziness!
(I'm French, btw)
Second one. No doubt. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI haven't studied French in 25 years but at least I understood SOME of it. Could a francophone please transcribe the lyrics for us???
ReplyDeleteWWU in french... my ears ... they bleed ! L'hiver s'enfuit ? Really ? :'(
ReplyDeleteWell it's not as bad as I thought, clearly better than Pinkie nofear song ... i thought i would commit suicide after hearing it.
*Going to toilets to vomit*
@drchris06
ReplyDeleteSorry, I wouldn't dare to do that ...
@drchris06I'm not french, but I could give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteFor three months we've lived in the cold of winter
Our little [shoes?] are nice and warm, we have nothing else to do
It's much to cold for us to work, nothing grows outside
And even though I love my boots this fashion's getting old (<3)
Springtime must arrive, to awaken nature
Now it's time to work, winter's back is to the wall
What can I do to help? This troubles me
I'm lost without my magic, how do I find my place?
Winter flees! Winter flees!
Our vacations end in joy!
Winter flees! Winter flees!
Soon spring will be here, soon spring will be here
Actually, you know what, I'm too lazy for this. Some one else can do the rest.
I loved Twilight's French VA, but Pinkie's voice doesn't seem to fit the character.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how the lyrics differ between the two. Since the French version kept the same beat, I'm certain the lyrics had to be changed because a direct translation would've changed the amount of syllables for the various lines.
@drchris06
ReplyDeleteI would do it for you guys but I don't think I'm ready to hear this again just yet, maybe after the trauma is gone.
The problems is that they:
ReplyDelete1) Translated almost everything literraly, because actually, english and french are pretty similar. They have a lot of words in common, but the meanings are different. First problem.
2) Really highlighted the child-side of the show, so there are many expressions that no one, absolutely no one in any francophone country would use, except parents that would talk to little children. Second problem.
A good example is the line "And even though I love my boots this fashion's getting old". It sounds perfectly good in english, you will agree.
But in french, "Et même si j'adore mes p'tites bottines, la mode en est passée" sounds totally awkward. It's a pretty accurate translation, but only in litteral terms. If we translate the meaning, it would be something like "And even though I love my little boots, this fashion is now gone". We found here our 2 problems:
1) The end of this line has a an awkward, yet correct grammar. It's not wrong, but nobody would speak like that. They did translate like that because they kept the same grammar structure. So it works in french too, but this is not a accurate translation. Same words, but different meanings. Problem number one.
2) Let's look at "mes p'tites bottines". If my dictionnary is right, a "bottine", would be an ankle boot. But more generally it means (and in that case it really does) "little boot". So, "petite" meaning "little", "petite bottine" would be something like "little little boots" in english, so you can get the idée. Who can't stop themselves to call everything "little" or "tiny"? Parents (Listen to Fluttershy when she speaks to her animals if you don't understand. You'll get it). Who listen to the parents? Children. And that's it. Next case please. Moreover, I would add that "bottine" is a really ugly word. If you're speaking french or want to, please never, ever use that word. Just say "boot" or "shoe", like everybody else.
It's juste an example, but it's like that in the whole song, or virtually. And it's really annoying.
Don't count on me to give a translation of the song, my heart is still painful from how much my favorite show has been slaughtered in my own language. Yes, slaughtered. It's not too strong, far from that. But it's not the first time that some french company want to spare the maximum of money by doing a botched up work, so I'm not really surprised. It's kind of our label.
Huh, there are some mistakes, but it's already 5am here. So maybe I'll just get some sleep now.
ReplyDeleteI fukken lol'd at the applejack's french singing voice. It's fucking hilarious. Well, at least Twilight's is good.
ReplyDeleteI like the French version of Winter Wrap Up. It's a little shaky sure, but nice in some parts.
ReplyDeleteOP pic is sooo nice!
ReplyDeletesongs always just don't seem to translate well...
ReplyDeleteOh my god the French dub is horrid.
ReplyDeleteWell most dubs are except for English anime dubs (RECENT English anime dubs, like from 2005 onward)
Confound these ponies. They cause me to regret dropping French.
