A brand new official iOS pony app has been released. It's primary function is to act as an interactive storybook that you ultimately modify to your liking. There are also a whole bunch of mini-games and activities buried in the mix. At just 99cents, you might as well pick it up. Hell that's how much an official Twilight Sparkle WALLPAPER could cost!
Cereal will be releasing a video review of the entire program either later today or tomorrow morning. Keep an eye out for that!
You can find the teaser after the break!

ReplyDeleteWaited so long for this!
ReplyDeleteA pony App? hooray.
ReplyDeleteLuna!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had myself a smarty phone
ReplyDeleteTwilight looks really weird with her mane going down both sides of her neck.
ReplyDeleteThat image of Celestia when it has like her information to the side is great. o-o
ReplyDelete/has no smartphone
I've never once envied my iPhone wielding friends.
ReplyDeleteUntil today.
I hope its better than the unofficial app I've got for FiM.
ReplyDeleteONE DAY, TWILIGHT SPARKLE AND SPIKE THE DRA-
ReplyDeleteNo need to yell Twilight God
No! Release one for the Android!
ReplyDeleteAs an owner of both an Android and an iPhone, I get the best of both :)
ReplyDeleteXD,
ReplyDeleteIt's huge.
100mb!
I had the first review :P
Hey, you actually posted something I submitted. How about that?
ReplyDeleteI can see folks playing with the option to record yourself saying the lines... imagine a group at BroNYCon turning it into a fandub...
@iAndster Didn't you know? MLP: FiM's target audience is people who are hard of hearing!
ReplyDeleteThat's not how Celestia is pronounced!
ReplyDelete...I'll probably buy it anyway though.
The only reason why I'm slightly maybe possibly interested in this is that it mentions that it describes the founding and history of Equestria.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I so interested in pony lore?
I'd get it... if I had an iPhone... which I have no interest in getting. :P
ReplyDeletePretty cool though!
Nose twitch… toe tap… knee spasm… ear twist…
ReplyDeleteSomepony is going to do a 'Teach me, Miss Laichi' parody!
that reminded me of spiderses for some very wierd reason
ReplyDeleteNo smarty pants phone.
ReplyDeleteDerpy @ 1:08 with derped eyes?!
ReplyDeleteThe story I think, was written to fit around the available stock art and existing video.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm pretty sure that's not Tara Strong doing the narrating, and all the voices, but a good sound-alike.
Still it should be lots of fun for little kids :)
Best part: "I'm gonna make it SNOW FOR YOOOU!"
I downloaded it this morning, and now I know how Equestria was made!
ReplyDeleteWell, the broad strokes. Twilight didn't really dig very deep for her history report. I'd give her a C+ at best.
Seems Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies didn't get along back in the day, and the land was frozen in a blizzard. They all migrated to the same place to try and get away from the snow, but it didn't thaw out until they got over their disharmony. Then the Unicorns built Canterlot and invited the other groups to a party, thus establishing the first Grand Galloping Gala.
I just noticed something, in the "Spot the Difference" game, Ditzy Doo and Carrot Top are standing next to each other! Brony nod, maybe?
ReplyDeleteHarwick: Wait, seriously, is that canon now? Well, there goes my fanfic ...
ReplyDeleteSo they let Luna out again? Hurray! Don't worry princess, I'm sure one day you'll be able to get a character introduction page.
ReplyDelete(also can anyone tell if Derpy's eyes are derped in that 'spot the difference' activity?)
Should I work this in as the origin of Canterlot? Oh, whoa is me! The horror! The horror!
ReplyDelete@Harwick
ReplyDeleteSo...was that after the whole Discord business or have we got two different Equestria origin stories on our hands?
Make sure you poke around even if there's nothing sparkling on a page... there's one spot on one page that is well worth all the random poking.
ReplyDeleteBest part was the Meet the Ponies with the gorgeous Celestia, and RD holding a pink prize cup XD
ReplyDelete@ponydoraprancypants hah, it actually kinda supports mine. now i'm going to have to actually write the damn thing...
ReplyDeleteDamn, Now I Have To Get Me A Smartphone.
ReplyDeleteConfound these ponies, They Drive Me To Find A JOB so I can finally have some merchandise (both official and fan-made)
@Bill Door I don't think it contradicts. Discord was presumably later than that, so it's more a 'how celestia and luna came to rule' but the time from this origin to discord being defeated, and celestia and luna's origins, are still a lovely blank canvas...
ReplyDelete@ponydoraprancypants: I wouldn't think you'd have to count this little story-book app as canon myself, especially since we have no idea what the developers were using as their source for the story, although it makes a certain amount of sense that Unicorns established Canterlot (with the magic academies), Pegasi established Cloudsdale (because who else possibly could have?) and Earth Ponies established Ponyville (as is actually canon). Admittedly, it makes Earth Ponies look like really crappy builders by comparison...
ReplyDelete@Bill Door: If you want to go with this actually being part of history, I'd say that it likely happened towards the end of Discord's reign. It would make sense that the three races of ponies wouldn't get along while he was around, and the rise of Celestia and Luna could account for the thawing of the land.
In Return of Harmony Part 1 Celestia says that when Luna and she arrived in Equestria the place was already being run by Discord, and then they "rose up" to defeat him. There are a lot of possible implications to this (a) C and L are from somewhere else (not Equestria), (b) C and L were Equestrians who somehow became deities and rose up against Discord. Either way, this app seems likely to contradict that statement.
ReplyDeletegrumbles///stupid i phones...how about windows?
ReplyDeleteam i the only one who still wants the app that was on the comercial?
@Harwick well Earth Ponies also seem to dominate in Manehattan (and have unicorns as their servants), so they've got that going for them.
ReplyDelete@Damazania I don't know, I think it's kinda neat.
ReplyDeleteNo, Woof. I think we'd all want the apps from the "There's a pony for that" commercial, even if they were mostly useless.
ReplyDeleteNo, Derp-Zam, I don't think the name of that song was "Pile of muffins".
It's not Tara Strong though...
ReplyDeleteNow we just need that fighting game from Mane6 in the app store and we'll be all set.
ReplyDeleteSquee for seeing Luna!
ReplyDeleteFrom the "Meet the Ponies" section of the game: "The only thing Pinkie Pie loves as much as her friends and parties are SWEETS! She loves to visit the Sugarcube Sweet Shop."
ReplyDeleteThe what? It's Sugarcube Corner, and she lives and works there, so "visit" doesn't make much sense...
There's a game that uses the phone's accelerometer to control move Twilight around the screen, but for some reason they reversed it - she runs in the direction opposite the way you tilt the phone. It was the right way around the next time I played it, though. No idea what was going on there.
Voice is definitely not Tara Strong.
The app doesn't look too bad for the most part, but you're not missing much if you don't have an iPhone.
That's how Equestria was born!
ReplyDeleteBought it the second I heard it existed.
ReplyDelete@ThemsAllTook Thanks for the info! Not having a iPhone myself (just my lousy Nokia :[ ) so I don't have a chance to try this app out. It looks funny, and $O,99 isn't too bad (it would probably cost 0,99€ here)! Meh, I don't know why I'm sticking with my Nokia...
ReplyDeleteHaving looked at the app, there is very much duck-faced Twilight Sparkle, but derpy is in there so that makes it okay!
ReplyDeleteInteresting... perhaps it could be made compatible with whatever type of file the kindle uses... that could be weird... One of these days I've got to get an Iphone.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I keep hearing so many memes in the story? "What a story" ... Mark.
ReplyDeleteEven though I'm guessing this isn't avaliable in europe yet I sadly lack an iphone and I'm stuck with a nokia from 2008.
ReplyDeleteOh, it contains Luna! :)
ReplyDelete@HeroInferno
ReplyDeleteI was able to buy it in Sweden when going through the App Store (not the links being posted), so I would think it works for anyone in Europe as well.
@Floof Cat: I went back and poked around a bit more and found the hidden bit you were referencing. That was indeed worth it.
ReplyDelete@Rekiara Amen, brony.
ReplyDeleteThis actually fits well with canon, IF it takes place before Season 2: Seeing as how Twilight knew nothing about Discord before Celestia told them about him!
ReplyDeleteHer report about history would simply conclude that the snow disappeared BECAUSE the ponies began living in harmony.
Instead, the ponies uniting and the snow disappearing was both caused by Discords defeat.
Alternately, this could very well be BEFORE Discords arrival! Since Celestia states "He ruled Equestria in an eternal state of unrest." (He couldn't very well rule something that wasn't founded yet).
So the timeline would be:
1. Disharmony and Snow
2. Unity and the founding of Equestria
3. Discord arrives and takes over, throwing Equestria into chaos.
4. The Sisters discover the elements and defeat discord.
Why does this remind me of Living Books?
ReplyDeleteGot a friend with an iPhone..... I kidnapped it and am using it right now...... :] Perhaps I shall buy this for her.
ReplyDelete"Dear Diary,
ReplyDeleteI was so honored when Fire and I got a Fire from Fire today! We were in the Fire helping Fire pick Fire!"
Found it!!! As soon as i saw it a went on my app store. Theres also a soundboard with pinkie pies body. And a game to make pinkie fly... Pinkie sure is popular.
ReplyDelete@TobiasKazama: Yeah, it all depends on how literally you want to take anything we've heard. Did Discord rule Equestria, or did he simply rule the land that would become Equestria (a distinction perhaps a bit too fine to bother with in a quick bit of in-show exposition?)
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to note that Twilight's story states "(the pony's) hearts were as cold as the mysterious unending blizzard that overtook the land". Raises the question of what caused the blizzard... and also suggests that had the blizzard never happened, then they might never have gotten together in the first place.
The "Pony Sounds" app is pretty much the same as the soundboard available on DeviantArt. I've been driving folks crazy with it for weeks.
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'm going to have to buy an iPad now.
ReplyDeleteConfound these ponies, they drive me to spend ALL my money. So much merch I want to get.
ReplyDeleteWe need an official droid App!
ReplyDelete@Harwick - Until someone posts a transcript of the story of this game, can you relate how the blizzard was ended? What did Celestia and/or Luna do to rectify the situation?
ReplyDeleteGah! It also looks like the unending blizzard happened before cutie marks existed, since none of the ponies pictured has one. Curiouser and curiouser.
ReplyDeleteTwilight screwed up the snow spell...
ReplyDelete@ponydoraprancypants: Not much info is given on the cause or the cure for the blizzard. It only says "They learned that there was only one way to end the storm. It was to treat each other warmly. That's how Equestria was born!" So it might be one of those old mare's tales we've heard so much about, or it could just be a fluffy version of their 'real' history, like First Thanksgiving tales and such.
ReplyDeleteCelestia and Luna aren't mentioned in the history part at all, just in talking about their attendance at the yearly Gala.
So you can see why I wouldn't think people would need to treat this as canon if they didn't want to.
@Darkside DM: Heh, I noticed that too. Even in apps she can't escape that reputation.
We need to make this the #1 app on the App Store.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I don't have an iPhone myself. But this looks kinda fun. Also, I see people are liking the inclusion of Luna of course. :)
ReplyDelete@Harwick. Hmm, sounds suspicous! Too bad the conclusion of the story isn't "and that's how Pinkie Pie got her cutie mark." Thanks for all the information! Since the whole premise of my fic is that Celestia has hidden the true origin of Equestria from the populace, this actually doesn't ruin things for me at all. Whew!
ReplyDeleteDamn, it's .99
ReplyDeleteNot that I mind the money, but I don't have a visa linked to my apple account, so I can't pay for anything
I guess I'll have to wait for SOMEONE to hack it for the jailbreak.
It is available in UK iTunes (unlike the episodes themselves, grr)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to like it, I really did. But it seems to be coded to a very very low standard. I'm really quite surprised it made it through apple's approval process.
Note this isn't a comment on its *content*, for which I'm probably not a great judge.
But when you first launch it, the screen goes black and then switches to safari and tries to load a website... which is broken.
When you switch back to the app you have to sit through an animated and noisy hasbro intro/logo sequence, followed by one for ruckus too.
And that's not just the first time you launch it ever. It's every time you launch it.
And it has no multitasking awareness, so if you switch to another app and back again, it starts going through all those intros again; basically the app launching from scratch.
Now, as for the content. I get the feeling it's done with a feeling of "that'll do, it's only for kids". but really, that's not exactly the ethos that informs the *show* is it? You follow a linear path with a few things to tap on along the way that makes something move. That definition of "interactivity" was old by the middle of the '90s.
Once again, hasbro lure us to the merchandising with a brilliant show, but the merchandise is... a bit rubbish and totally lacking in ambition.
At least it was cheap.
Why does it not surprise me that Fluttershy's face was covered in the trailer?
ReplyDeleteThe "broken website" launch happened to me on first startup too, but that's usually a sign our Mac-hating wireless has blipped out - turned the phone's wireless off and on and haven't had the problem sense. The Hasbro intro is so over-the-top epic it's kind of hilarious, though, so I can't be too angry at it.
ReplyDeleteMy problem is it keeps freezing on the "get Twilight from town to the schoolhouse" tiltmaze. Though I have discovered this way that you get more words for replaying the games.
It's taking forever to download!!!!! Can't wait any longer!!!!!
ReplyDeletewhy no Android ?
ReplyDeleteYou can also skip the trailers just by tapping the screen. The download does take a while, but page 33's easter egg... or easter muffin, as the case may be, is worth the price of admission.
ReplyDeleteGotta check out the easter muffin!
ReplyDeleteWow, I missed that big time. Do you think there are any more secrets like that?
ReplyDeleteThis App rocks hard! Let's have a sequel!
ReplyDeleteI've clicked everywhere, so I'm guessing no... but I'll try again in the morning. Plus, since it's on iOS, they can always update it in the future...
ReplyDeleteLet's hope they update it :|
ReplyDeleteI made the first App store review for this game!!!
ReplyDeleteThe first of millions to come!!!!!
I made history!!!!!
Oh, it glitched, did not show the other reviews and did not post mine :(
ReplyDeleteGot to get it...
ReplyDelete(sniff) I on´t have an ipod.
