Dammit, Crappyunicorn quit making me ship stuff! How the hell did you even know I love one-sided pairings? Now my muse won't let me be and it's all your fault. Humph!
Seth you forgot to link the second part of number 2: http://crappyunicorn.deviantart.com/art/monster-259288104 here it is for the viewers pleasure.
But honestly Those line Discord spoke when he first appeared is clearly a hint that something happened between him and Celestia, I kinda thought the same thing as this artist, just in a different way I wouldn't be surprised if part 2 told us Discord was Celestia first love or that they were friends before he embraced chaos. He might even be influenced by the same being that created Nightmare Moon out of Luna.
Since I'm sure more people here will read these comments than what the artist posted on DA, I'm going to copy that here, hoping to head off some potential drama:
"Just a comic doodle of a little idea I had after watching the first episode of the new season.
Inspired by Disqord's dialouge:
"Did you miss me, Celestia? I missed you..." ... "Ohh... I've forgotten how grim you can be, Celestia... It's really quite... booorrring."
Not that I think Celestia is insensitive or mean, but sometimes the ignorance that comes with young age can lead to poor behavior.
EDIT: Just to clear something up... I don't think that an incident like this would've "turned" him. He was already on his way to Evilsville. So Celestia rejecting him isn't his "origin story" or anything...
I figure he finally decided that, since he wasn't getting any positive attention, he'd settle for negative attention... which is when he discovered his one true love: Chaos"
@Gypsy I do have a discord origin fic idea, but I want to see episode 2 before setting in stone what my story would be, but It would be pretty much a how was he born, and what was his relation with the alicorns before turning evil. (I'm thinking somethign along the lines of being a chimaera that was created as a pet for the sisters, but as time passed he became sentient and even recognized them as sisters. Yet, being so different from ponies would have brought bullies to him and he would at some point grow jealous of his "sisters" getting all the positive attention while he was getting all the negative. anyway if someone can do it better than I can go ahead, because Im not that good a writer yet, I still need a lot of improvement.
sounds promising but im not to sure on celestia & luna creating him as a pet maybe something else like he was found in the deepest part of the forest, i guess everyone should wait for part 2
Second of the the second: http://crappyunicorn.deviantart.com/art/monster-259288104?q=sort%3Atime%20gallery%3Acrappyunicorn&qo=0 For those that dun notice it.
Wow, the mood whiplash from those two comics hurt. How did we go from cute siblings to heartbreak in 32 words?
I really do hope Big Mac gets his own episode, or at least an episode where they explain how that family works. There is a lot of mysteries to the Apple family that need answers.
I'm still of the opinion that Discord is Celestia's dad. Think about it order from chaos, primordial gods defeated by their children. Celestia is Zeus.
I do wonder what sort of thing created Discord, Even from designs he looks kinda weird... It probably was pure Chaos, or, for pun, "Discord". But if it was something else...
You know, if Discord went all Big Bad because of unrequited love, I'm PRETTY SURE the first evil thing he'd do with those mind-control powers is....well....let's just say it rhymes with "tape".
I like both comics a lot, but I actually suspect that Discord is Celestia and Luna's father. He did rule Equestria before they did, after all. There is mythological precedent.
The second one is interesting, but I don't think it really fits with Discord's established character. To me he seems a lot like a G rated version of TDK's interpretation of the Joker.
The second is told from Discord's point of view by Discord. I wouldn't really expect the god of chaos to be entirely fair and accurate in recounting something that happened well over a thousand years ago.
I'm sorry to say that while the second comic is really well done and manages to create strong imagery, it misses the characters IMO too much to make it believable within the context of their personalities.
To me Discord is something that isn't exactly like that pure evil, per-say. But more of an mischievous trickster who enjoys seeing, well, discord... The kind of "chess-player" baddie mentality who does not necessarily despise loss just knowing it's part of the game. And secondly Discord again is (to me) the kind of bad guy who has existed even longer than Celestia with his mischiefs to have truly neutral personality. (Although I could be wrong with that one, it's somewhat unclear the way Celestia explains the history in the first ep.)
Very good comics, both of them, but I found them to make a rather strange combination for being on the same post... It made me go from happy so sad in...
@JaggoIt seems to be more of a want to give the villains backstory and explain why they may not be so bad. At least that is what 90% of Trixie fics do.
I'm looking forward to a backstory for Discord. However, I'll only read a fic, shipping or not, that has been well though out. Any Discord fanfictions that are released before two weeks after S2Ep2 should be tossed out.
I dunno, I kinda like the idea of Discord having been an evil tyrant to begin with, but he had a chance at redemption when he fell in love. Celestia, being young and hating Discord with a passion (likely for understandable reasons), opted instead for the violent solution instead and cast him into stone.
And yes Discord is a trickster, but I'd still say he's plenty evil- what he did to Pinkie Pie sealed that manner for me. If he was really in it just for the fun, he probably would have let the chaotic Pink Pony go- but no, he's got a mission. If nothing else, it's obvious he wants to dissassemble Celestia's nice and ordered society (perhaps TOO ordered, given how ponies control all of nature).
That second comic, reminds me of this really twisted comic I saw posted on /b/ back when I still went there.
It was about a young boy who is visited by death and shown the awful horrors of the future, and is tasked with stopping it, by causing an atrocity of his own to stop the greaters evils of the world from being unleashed. That boy grew up to be Hitler.
It was a strange, strange read, but the art style was very similar to #2 IIRC. Just a strange thing you see on the internet.
While minimalistic, it tells the entire story of Discord, his relationship with Celestia while leaving enought to the imagination to be perfect.
Also, first draw of celestia is simply gorgeous. Seriously, it has so much more human silouette while not completely leaving her equine form, the way the shadows in her face and mane and the way is colored its become... a little unconfortabble, unless you are into those kind of things. Seriously, the best image of Celestia I had ever see in Equestria Daily.
Nightmare Moon gets to be the Hitler of Equestria. Discord gets SaD'awwwwwww? Evil NMM make me sad. Evil Discord makes me ROFL. This fandom makes me wonder.
@Draconaes: "The second is told from Discord's point of view by Discord. I wouldn't really expect the god of chaos to be entirely fair and accurate in recounting something that happened well over a thousand years ago."
I like the second comic on a technical basis, but the way Celestia's portrayed suggests that she owed it to him to love him, which frankly makes me very uncomfortable.
@ladymoondancer I can see how you could get that vibe from it. Personally I didn't, and the two sequel pics do a good job of cementing that Discord is a villain through and through.
Dammit, the creepy balloon scene tormenting Pinkie Pie still upsets me... but now there's this. What complex emotion are you Equestrians trying to make me feel?!
I don't like the fact that people are trying to turn Discord into a sympathetic villain, he's better as a irredeemable, trickster asshole. Pure and simple.
Fact! Text outline strokes, bevel effects and drop shadows exist for a reason... To create such a fine piece of art as that second piece, and then make the text so unreadable because it blends into the background art does it a grave injustice.
100 comments:
I was wondeirng when that 2nd one would get up here.
ReplyDeletefirst
ReplyDeleteThe first comic is adorable :3
ReplyDeleteThe second comic goes from heart-breakingly amazing to mood-whiplashy terrifying O_O Oh my God those eyes!
Wow that second comic man. Still waters do run deep.
ReplyDeleteHas anypony seen my jaw? Eye seemed to have lost it while reading the 2nd one~
ReplyDelete*sniffle*
ReplyDeleteDiscord... poor Discord.
>Possible fic idea thanks to the second one.
ReplyDeletePoor Discord...
ReplyDelete...no more words here, moving on.
Oh, poor Discord.
ReplyDeleteOk, whats going on... There are NEVER only 3 comments by the time I see a post...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the first is cute, but the second... Will that ever bee a fanfic? If so, I'd definitely read that
Seems like Discord had a bad life in the past.
ReplyDeleteDiscord is Discord because he is... Discord...
ReplyDeletesecond comic doesn't make sense.
And of course they double after I post
ReplyDeleteDear Equestria Daily, Today you have made my feel not once, but twice. Why must you toy with my manly emotions so.
ReplyDelete#1: Um' apple jack shouldn't you let him carry the apples Only?
ReplyDelete#2: HNNNG, must keep.. hatred.. for Discord.. remember.. Fluttershy!
Dammit, Crappyunicorn quit making me ship stuff! How the hell did you even know I love one-sided pairings? Now my muse won't let me be and it's all your fault. Humph!
ReplyDeletethe second one really resonates with me even if its a cliché its one that works with a good foundation and this really needs some anyone up for a Discord Origins fic?
ReplyDeleteSeth you forgot to link the second part of number 2: http://crappyunicorn.deviantart.com/art/monster-259288104 here it is for the viewers pleasure.

So is it the current Brony agenda to make everyone cry for one of the Villain's of the show? Man why does this community gotta be makin' everyone sad.

That second comic is a two-parter, I think. And also very epic.
ReplyDelete@Jaggo
ReplyDeleteSympathetic villains are the best villains.
@CTVulpin
ReplyDeleteFor ponies at any rate.
@jodyjm13
ReplyDeleteActually, now that I've seen that second comic, I sorta wish I could delete my previous comment, or at least most of it...
I'm noticing a recent trend
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of sad stuff
@ second one: HOLY PLOT TWIST!
ReplyDeleteI refuse to believe that Discord is a scorned lover
ReplyDelete#2 comic just... Wow awesome
ReplyDelete@Monster Hunter Brony
ReplyDeletesounds promising but im not to sure on celestia & luna creating him as a pet maybe something else like he was found in the deepest part of the forest, i guess everyone should wait for part 2
I really want a Big Mac episode.
ReplyDeleteThe first one... d'aww :3
ReplyDeletethat second comic was so deep... i just feel so sorry for Discord... wow...
ReplyDeleteLoved the first
ReplyDeleteLike the second for what it is I guess, but I prefer Discord just being a straight up troll for evil's sake over scorned lover thing.
Discord should of been a black alicorn for that second comic to make any sense and fit properly
ReplyDeleteThe second one made me giggle like a schoolgirl.
ReplyDeleteSecond of the the second: http://crappyunicorn.deviantart.com/art/monster-259288104?q=sort%3Atime%20gallery%3Acrappyunicorn&qo=0
ReplyDeleteFor those that dun notice it.
Quit making me feel sorry for Discord! I already have a weak spot for villains and you're making it worse! *breaks down sobbing*
ReplyDeleteWow, the mood whiplash from those two comics hurt. How did we go from cute siblings to heartbreak in 32 words?
ReplyDeleteI really do hope Big Mac gets his own episode, or at least an episode where they explain how that family works. There is a lot of mysteries to the Apple family that need answers.
Damnit stop making me like Discord!
ReplyDeleteLol at first one, second one is BS. You guys will ship anything...
ReplyDelete@bronydash
ReplyDeleteIt's not actually shipping at all. It's more so a scene to invoke emotion and a true meaning behind Discord's deeds.
Well, all my love now belongs to Discord.
ReplyDeleteI'm still of the opinion that Discord is Celestia's dad. Think about it order from chaos, primordial gods defeated by their children. Celestia is Zeus.
ReplyDeleteinb4 FF Dissidea crossover
ReplyDeleteDiscord teams up with Chaos (rocky Relationship)
Cosmos teams up with Luna/Celestia (steady relationship)
I do wonder what sort of thing created Discord, Even from designs he looks kinda weird... It probably was pure Chaos, or, for pun, "Discord". But if it was something else...
ReplyDeleteJaw on floor after second one.
ReplyDeletefirst comic makes me HHHNNNGGG.
ReplyDeletesecond one makes me HHHMMM.
You know, if Discord went all Big Bad because of unrequited love, I'm PRETTY SURE the first evil thing he'd do with those mind-control powers is....well....let's just say it rhymes with "tape".
ReplyDelete@Firleycat
Let's just say that Applejack has a vivid recollection of Apple Bloom's birth....
Hint, hint.
(lol MadMax did a comic about this)
@Mr.Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt's the 21st century. You can't keep making the bad guys (and no-one else) black ffs...
Discord is at least nothing if not colourful. Probably a harlequin ref going on, which slots into general tricksterism.
I like both comics a lot, but I actually suspect that Discord is Celestia and Luna's father. He did rule Equestria before they did, after all. There is mythological precedent.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it would be EVIL!
The second one was very................
ReplyDeleteummmmmmm wat?
@Springtime BluesCelestia is Zeus? That certainly explains the messed up Celestia/Zeus-Luna/Hera shipping... freaky Greek dieties.
ReplyDeleteHehe, poor AJ. Always trying to be so strong and tough. Big Mac is kinda cute with AJ's hat on. :P
ReplyDeleteThe second comic... whoa. Things suddenly got deep and serious there. lol But poor Discord. :'(
dawwww AJ...
ReplyDeleteThe second one is interesting, but I don't think it really fits with Discord's established character. To me he seems a lot like a G rated version of TDK's interpretation of the Joker.

But that's just me, feel free to disagree.
I know Discord isn't the "evil" sort of villain, more of the trickster, but that second comic is still amazing.
ReplyDeleteAll I saw in the second comic was Carrion and Boa. Abarat. My Little Pony. I want crossovers...
ReplyDelete1. Big Mac does seem to old for that.
ReplyDelete2. Discord doesn't love anyone. Also the second comic makes me sad.
Very good comics, both of them, but I found them to make a rather strange combination for being on the same post...
ReplyDeleteIt made me go from happy so sad in...

ten seconds flat!
@JaggoIt seems to be more of a want to give the villains backstory and explain why they may not be so bad. At least that is what 90% of Trixie fics do.
ReplyDeleteDiscord just got epicer
ReplyDelete#2 is... perfect...
ReplyDelete2 is very nice but I knew we would get alot of Discord x Celestia junk so let the flood gates bust
ReplyDeleteD'aaaw, AJ.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to a backstory for Discord. However, I'll only read a fic, shipping or not, that has been well though out. Any Discord fanfictions that are released before two weeks after S2Ep2 should be tossed out.

Nightmare Moon gets to be the Hitler of Equestria.

This fandom makes me wonder.
@Draconaes: "The second is told from Discord's point of view by Discord. I wouldn't really expect the god of chaos to be entirely fair and accurate in recounting something that happened well over a thousand years ago."
ReplyDeleteThis. 100% this.
Oh poor discord
ReplyDeleteAutomatically started reading second comic in Discord's voice. Get to end, it is Discord. Me Gusta.
ReplyDeleteOh. Discord. He be needing love. Oh please someone make a fic!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the second comic on a technical basis, but the way Celestia's portrayed suggests that she owed it to him to love him, which frankly makes me very uncomfortable.

Oh btw here's a link to part 3 http://crappyunicorn.deviantart.com/art/hilarious-259431933
ReplyDeleteAnd my love for Discord grows more and more T____T
ReplyDeleteSeriously. He just went beyond BG ponies and is even starting to rival mane ponies level!
Dammit, the creepy balloon scene tormenting Pinkie Pie still upsets me... but now there's this. What complex emotion are you Equestrians trying to make me feel?!
ReplyDeleteI lol'd a lil.
ReplyDeleteApplejack is cute! 'nuff said!
ReplyDeleteDude... page 3 is just... damn.
ReplyDeleteY'know... given the fanon for Celly (trollestia, princess of pranks), is it really so surprising to see her and discord shipped?
Queue past sins 2 =p
ReplyDeleteDefinitely like both of these comics, very different but awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think Sheogorath had a part in this. :P
ReplyDeleteOther then that, the two comics are incredibly well done. :D Can't wait to see more.
Hug'd Discord!
ReplyDeleteI don't like the fact that people are trying to turn Discord into a sympathetic villain, he's better as a irredeemable, trickster asshole. Pure and simple.
ReplyDeleteSympathetic and irredeemable monster are not necessarily mutually exclusive imo. Even monsters have motivations and emotions.
ReplyDeleteOh, now that is DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Love both of them!
ReplyDeletePage 2 of the second comment has now given me nightmares... But it is so worth it!
ReplyDeleteDraconaes is correct. Sympathetic doesn't necessarily mean redeemable. Just because someone is pitiable doesn't excuse them for their crimes.
ReplyDeleteFact! Text outline strokes, bevel effects and drop shadows exist for a reason... To create such a fine piece of art as that second piece, and then make the text so unreadable because it blends into the background art does it a grave injustice.
ReplyDeleteFirst comic was cute and the second...Aww Discord :(
ReplyDeleteAnd the more i read, Discord you crazy. Great comic.
ReplyDeleteomg the second comic was amazing! I think that is just epic!!
ReplyDeleteOoh page four of the Deep. I'm liking this interpretation.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't wait for it to be finished!
Is there a name for the #2 pairing? Discordia? Celesticord? Either way, I'm suprised it isn't more popular!
ReplyDelete
