It's not scary at all that it can be done. You have tons of political cartoons that sum up the entire broken system in a single picture. Putting it in pony form only makes it easier for the fandom to understand the problems.
I'd like to vote for you Celestia, really I would, but it seems that only residents of Equestria are allowed to vote in pony elections.
So, maybe if you could fast track that entire 'open a portal between Earth and Equestria' thing, I'll be more than happy to relocate in time so that I comply with the residency laws.
Sometimes it scares me that probably the only reason we still have democracy everywhere is that people are happy even though a few with power can do whatever they damn well please to.
I said this on the deviantart-page, posting it here as well:
"Thanks for making this. I don't live in the US myself, yet it pains me to see how your political system works. What you need are more parties that better reflect the opinion of the people. Two are too few, especially when the actions they do take are so similar.
1/3 of the US population may be clever enough to think like you, but that doesn't help when the other 2/3's aren't. I'd say that the fact that someone gets votes "because of his faith in God", proves that."
Remember brony's this comment page could turn into an example of how loving and tolerant we are or show we are just like every other community on the internet.
As right-wing conservative and a brony, would it kill an artist out there to take a jab at Obama? Just saying, after going through deviantart and webcomics to see jab after jab to us on the right. Would it kill someone to jab the left a bit?
Though Luna is a start but something about "well blame it on the pony before me".
This comic also sums up what's wrong with American politics too. Parties resorting to basic insults instead of actually dealing with problems. American government would be a less corrupt place if it weren't for career politicians. Love and tolerance.
@tyler This. This. A million times this. I'm happy that I'm not the only brony who leans right, but the second we start throwing horse dung at each other there's no going back.
Just so everypony knows, I wrote this comic out of a sense of general distaste for ALL the US political parties as they currently behave. I wanted to make sure the comic was silly and absurd enough that it didn't call out anyone's personal beliefs, but not so broad it wasn't a little bit relevant to the issue.
That goes for Democrats and Republican politicians alike. I offer my brohoof of love and friendship to both sides of the political aisle!
Can we keep poltics, (along with sex and swearing and stuff) separate from ponies? I like to use it to escape from those issues, not to be reminded of them.
I'm making a write in vote for Dan. That big beautiful diamond is just what Equestria needs. Sure, there have been nasty attack ads calling him a rock but those rumors are unfounded.
Canadian liberal here, we have a provincial election soon here in Ontario. Awesome job on this Pixel Kitties. Lol I LOVE your ponified Rachel Maddow! :D
The U.S system isn't built for more than 2 parties, period. People love to sound cool and profound and CONSCIOUS by ranting about how much it sucks but look at the record: Federalists, Anti-Federalists. Federalists, Democratic-Republicans. Democratic, Whig.
There were 3rd parties then too. But JUST LIKE TODAY, they were jokes and laughing stocks that included losers like the Know-Nothing Party, the Anti-Mason Party, the Prohibition Party, ETC ETC ETC. Today our 3rd parties are what, a Constitutionalist party that makes the Tea Party look sane? A Libertarian Party that seems hell-bent on sabotaging itself at a time where they should be gaining strength? And a Green Party that's SO stupid, they nominated Cynthia McKinney - a 9/11 truther who claimed the National Guard executed 5,000 New Orleans residents during Katrina like the Einsatzgruppen (yes she really said that, LINK http://youtu.be/3vVIhyWsa10) - as their fucking Presidential nominee.
Ross Perot had a fleeting moment when he could've been elected President if he was willing to spend his vast fortune on TV time. He decided to be a cheapskate instead, then blew up his campaign in a moment of paranoid idiocy. That was that. Then he formed The Reform Party. Remember the Futurama joke about that in The Day the Earth Stood Stupid? Yeah. Oh and Perot's ideas weren't that great anyway and included brilliant plans like EXPANDING the War on Drugs. Hooray!
The last time a "3rd party" was successful, they were called THE REPUBLICANS.
What, didn't like the Tea Party jabs? What do you expect when a disturbing large and VOCAL section of the Republican base is 100% convinced that A) Obama's proven, documented citizenship is some massive conspiracy (and yes, this is racist btw because it would NEVER be happening if he was a white guy named Bob Johnson), B) There's a real threat of Sharia Law being implemented in America and therefore we shouldn't let them Muslims build any more mosques and this is totally constitutional because Islam isn't a "real" religion?
You guys always laughed at the Left when we'd have these big marches and the looney toons would come out with their Bush = Hitler signs and their anarchist and Greenpeace buddies and make everyone else look bad. Well now the shoes on the other foot. Ya'll had your little Tea Party marches, felt real good about supporting those principles you conveniently forgot about while Bush was in office, then went home and realized that the idiots with the "The zoo has a African Lion and there's a LYIN AFRICAN in the White House" and Obama = Hitler posters were the ones who got the most attention. Congrats.
And I'm not even gonna start with all that Southern Confederacy fetishism that makes my blood boil.
Yeah, Seth better lock this comment thread before its too late.
Gah! Wall of text! Calm down bro. I'll calm down too but you have to realize that pop culture is overwhelmed with tidal wave after tidal wave of jabs to the right and its supporters claim that "the media makes jabs equally" when really it's ten insults to the right to one tiny fling to the left.
.........ah screw it. Like I said, I come here to escape the Stalingrad battle that are political comment pages. There will be plenty of time for that next year. Palin/Bachmann 2012!
....Uhhh...okay I'll be over here with my conservative bronies talking about Applejack. (still undecided which candidate he is behind IRL but that's another show)
I have a bad habit of getting in flame wars but yea this comic is funny...and no offense mycutiemarkisagun but Im not reading that wall of text cause Im a redhead and rage at the drop of a hat if not carful.
I bet Rarity with AJ as a vice princess would be great for the Equestrian government
So if Princess Celestia is the Republican Party, and Princess Luna is the Democratic Party...and based on the application of current coverage of the political scene as applied to the Muffin Party...
Derpy Hooves is in the Tea Party! We'll take her! leftandright.BunnyCast.tv, we're done here! PEACE! *drops mic, moonwalks off stage*
C'mon, guys, this is amusing. Regardless of what party you affiliate yourself with, I think we can all agree that politics has too much petty insults and mudslinging going on, and too little constructive thinking. I'd like it if politicians would work off of each other's ideas. If they want to totally shut down someone else, they should have to provide a solution of their own. It's too easy to criticize, and the constant media attention has seemingly made them all overly dramatic about doing so.
I'd like to think that at the end of the day, all of us MLP fans ultimately desire that everyone should be happy and healthy. It's important to remember that people who group themselves with opposing political parties feel similarly. We may disagree on the best road to take, but as long as we negotiate, we can still get there.
@Smokey Treble But Rarity is the face of the campane...and what a nice face it would be, she will pull in all the male votes wile AJs no nonsense work ethic will get the hard working middle class vote.
I'm a massive political wingnut (not telling you which side), but I'd rather keep the arguments as far from pony as possible, so a smack to the back of the head of anyone seeding arguments here.
Comic is incredibly funny, however. Muffins indeed.
Coming up next, Rrachel Maddow will be talking to Rainbow Dash, a up-and-coming athlete whose prospects of joining the wonderbolts have opened up with the repeal of DADT.
This is great! So much political commentary in the context of ponies. I think Spike will be happy with Celestia's tax cut on monocles and tophats... And another thing. The USA is NOT a true democracy. In a democracy everyone votes on everything directly. It is a Republic, where elected officials make the decisions for us. I'm tired of that misconception.
@Ledgem "It's important to remember that people who group themselves with opposing political parties feel similarly. We may disagree on the best road to take, but as long as we negotiate, we can still get there."
Amen!
@What the Hay:
It depends on what you mean by "democracy." It's true that the US is not a direct democracy, but the term is often used more broadly to describe any form of government in which people have the freedom to vote. By this definition the US is both a republic and a democracy. See for instance the Democracy Index (which is on Wikipedia but I can't figure out how to embed links), which treats the US as a democracy alongside other countries like Britain (which are described as "parliamentary democracies"). It's all about usage.
Rachael Meadow is enough love that any problems I have with how the parties are depicted can be set aside. And no, I'm not saying which one annoyed me. So there.
Hey, that's an accurate description of United States politics right now absolutely.
So basically Celestia is a lying Republican.
Luna is a wavering Democrat who goes along with whatever Republicans say.
And Derpy Hooves is a looney Tea Party member.
... I feel bad for everypony being denigrated by our horrible human politics. I'm sorry Celestia, you're not as tyrannical and deceitful as a Conservative Republican. I'm sorry Luna, you're not as cowardly as a Democrat. I'm sorry Derpy, you're not as stupid and insane as a Tea Party member.
It's honestly kind of sad how far some liberals go to demonize everyone who isn't them. I understand a joke or a funny parody, but there seems to be this massive hatred for conservatives here. I get enough crap for being conservative in the south, I don't think I want politics in my ponies now.
As for the love and tolerate thing, it seems really selective among the majority. I think i'd just much rather politics stays out of ponies and EQD, but I guess that's just me.
@Drake "It's honestly kind of sad how far some liberals go to demonize everyone who isn't them."
C'mon dude, you can't honestly believe conservatives are innocent of demonizing their opponents (see: Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, Coulter, etc).
And you get crap for being conservative in the *South*? Are we talking Southern United States? I live in the South...we're kind of known for our right-wing politics here.
Both sides have their bad apples. Receiving criticism isn't equal to hatred. Learn to take a joke, to take criticism, and you become a better person; it allows you to examine yourself and come up with more and better reasons for believing as you already do! :)
But remember also the left is just as guilty as for demonizing also (Olbermann, Hollywood, 90% of the New York times, etc.) Also times have change, even in red-rich areas of America like the south have their stronghold pockets of blue (like Austin, Texas) and vice versa (parts of California and Illinois)
Now can everypony please just get along before it gets out of hand? We all came here for ponies not Digg's political section, right? :D
@geronkizan Hence why I said "both sides have their bad apples." I was replying directly to Drake, who implied liberals were the only ones guilty of demonizing their opponents. That simply isn't true.
And yes, red states often have pockets of blue -- just like blue states often have pockets of red.
But you're right, pony time ftw!
@Drake: No anger here, just didn't think what you said was fair and couldn't keep my mouth shut. It gets me in trouble sometimes... ;)
@Alz: Didn't mean to imply that it's only liberals, and of course both sides have bad apples *cough*O'Reilly*cough*. I just get sick of all the hate sometimes. It's especially annoying in the brony community when people think the idiots in Fox are representative of all conservatives and think we aren't tolerant of anything. I know that feeling of getting yourself in trouble because of running your mouth, I do the same thing lol :).
@Drake: I hear you dude. For what it's worth, though I'm a huge liberal, Keith Olbermann and Ed Schultz embarrass the shit out of me. Sorry if I was snippy before -- you're right, I've never been to Arkansas; I have only my experiences in Alabama to pull from, lol.

ReplyDeleteMy faith in Equestrian Politics has just been vastly diminished.
ReplyDeletedidnt even look at the comic did ya? ^^
ReplyDeleteOh my god, it's so true. How does our current convoluted political scene get summed up in pony form? It's almost scary that it can be done...
ReplyDeletethe announcer pony looks like she has too many legs
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the Trixie and Discord Parties would have to say...
ReplyDeleteEven if we vote muffin party Celestia will still overthrow her reign as the muffin queen.
ReplyDeleteDerpy for princess! Also Luna is a secondary vote.

ReplyDeletelolz.
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to Derpy.
ReplyDeleteDerpy Hooves for Princess!

I'd put a write-in vote for Alicorn Lauren Faust.
ReplyDeleteI cracked up at the last speech bubble
ReplyDeleteVote Discord!
ReplyDeleteHe may not be perfect, but in eternal chaos things could potentially work out in everyones favor just through random chance.
I'd like to vote for you Celestia, really I would, but it seems that only residents of Equestria are allowed to vote in pony elections.

ReplyDeleteHaha. Oh Derpy, I love ya. The Muffin Party has my vote. <3
Sometimes it scares me that probably the only reason we still have democracy everywhere is that people are happy even though a few with power can do whatever they damn well please to.
ReplyDeletePutting it in pony form has just made this steaming pile so much more adorable.
ReplyDeleteAlso, vote Pinkie and the Party Party.
I said this on the deviantart-page, posting it here as well:

Hooray! Thank you, Seth, for posting my silly comic!
ReplyDeleteI, for one, am totally voting for Pinkie's Party party!
As a conservative, not sure how I feel about this :S
ReplyDelete@naahdude
ReplyDeleteWOOOT! Conservative bro hoof!
If the Muffin Party existed in the U.S, I'd vote for it in a heartbeat.

ReplyDeleteSave one for me. ;)
Subliminal democratic messages.
ReplyDeleteI see them.

Conservitve Brohoof also.
Err, I totally agree with this comic (Rachel Meadow <3)

I love this fandom. I don't know much about politics, but this just made me laugh.

ReplyDelete@pixelkitties
ReplyDeleteI'm Liberal, and todays democratic leaders (senators, governors, etc.) disturb me.
They're too afraid to speak their minds, and the country as a whole is suffering... sometimes I wish the Green party was bigger.
Well said Pixelkitties *puts on monocle and gives pixel muffin with a little american flag on it*

Dear Celestia! I think I'm falling in love with Pixlekitties!
ReplyDeletePolitics and bronies cannot mix. This was a bad idea. A very bad idea.
ReplyDeleteI'd vote for Derpy in an instant. Or should i say, in under ten seconds flat. Don't even have to think about it.
ReplyDeleteI loved it but I'm not reading the comments because I don't want to get sucked into a political flame war.
