Cartoon Network's "MAD" is pretty much dedicated to memedom, so I guess this was a pretty inevitable, and it also wasn't the first time. I was going to drop this into the nightly roundup, but I think it deserves it's own post.
Check out the video after the break!

First?
ReplyDeleteNow that that itch has been scratched, I saw this earlier and cringed at the unholy union of Angry Pigs and Dashie.
ReplyDeleteOk Guys, Internet's Closed.
ReplyDeleteDon't have to go home but you can't stay here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-A5HZqqLT8
ReplyDeleteIs the way it showed on TV I believe.
I kinda lost it at nyancat
ReplyDeleteRD is in there too. But this video contains a cornucopia of the internet so its not surprising we got scooped up with it.
ReplyDeleteSo, The Internet's been plagiarised? Who do we sue?
ReplyDeletei dont know what to say about this clip
ReplyDelete@DeeperMadness
ReplyDeleteOurselves...
Not sure if want.
ReplyDeleteMaximum DERP level reached!
ReplyDeleteOh god, so many... it hurts...
ReplyDeleteWhat is this, I don't even?
ReplyDeleteOnly the internets could birth something so wondrous.

ReplyDeleteLyonyan was...That was hilarious, I had to put a hand over my mouth to hold back my laughter at work XD
ReplyDeleteI am dissapointed though. Rainbow Dash and Derpy might as well count as cameos, when there could've been a lot more jokey stuff to throw with them.
"DO NOT WANT" summarizes this pretty well.
ReplyDeleteNot even ponies can save this uninspired snoozefest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0dj-xdg_FY
ReplyDeleteJust watched the broadcast version of this, apparently they made Rainbowdash look like a pink flying pig and cut out Derpy altogether...lame.
This show is a cancer eating away at the minds of americas youth reducing them into a bunch of meme spewing morons.

ReplyDeleteRobot Chicken, please come back. I miss you.
ReplyDeleteThis is a gigantic pile of what-the-ever-loving-crap if I ever saw one.
ReplyDeleteI saw this a few days ago on memebase. I cracked up SO HARD. Not just at the ponies, at ALL THE MEMES!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I understand any of this either!
ReplyDeleteThis... was awesome
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome. Rainbow Dash appears a few times, but the best looking version was the one that zips across the screen in a split second. :(
ReplyDeleteI genuinely lost my sh*t there.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen my shot? Fell off the table dammit...
ZOMG red lobster and weegee too!
ReplyDelete...folks, modern cartoons are in a good place.
Wait! It's just me or Derpy disappeared? And now I can see only flying pig? What the hay did they do????
ReplyDeleteOh god. I think I got 5 different cancers just from watching this. I'm just thankful they didn't have EFG. But...god. It was like seeing all the 14 year old kids who just discovered 4chan back in school. WE NEVER SPEAK OF THIS AGAIN.
ReplyDeleteSee, this is what happens when fat bald dudes running an entertainment business get hold of an idea that people think is popular: terrible tired trite tripe.
ReplyDeletePointing out that the memes are overused does not excuse you using them. Especially not ALL of them simultaneously.
Also stop making my ponies look so dumb.
So, what happened? Cause in the animatic of the show it shows Derpy and Rainbow Dash, but in the final version it looks like derpy is gone, but Rainbow Dash was crossed with a pig from angry birds... Son I am Disappoint.
ReplyDeleteI actually kinda liked it.
ReplyDeleteThis video is part of a larger episode, the first half of which, "Cowboys and Alien Force" actually includes a Cowboys and Aliens mash-up with not only Ben 10 Alien Force, but also My Little Pony.
ReplyDeleteWait a second....Weegee? In a TV show? DEAR GOD, He's escaped from is YoutubePoop Prison. No one is safe anymore. The universe is doomed.
ReplyDeleteOh, wtf...
ReplyDeleteI don't know wtf is going on
ReplyDeleteWhere did that image at the top of the post come from? Because I sure didn't spot Derpy in the clip. If they actually had Derpy in the spot during planning stages but dropped her before broadcast, that gutlessness would go a long way towards explaining why the show's so mediocre...
ReplyDeleteWhy did this get its own post?
ReplyDeleteDid my drink just get spiked again?
ReplyDeleteMy brain hurts.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the most painful things I've ever tried to watch.
ReplyDeleteWell...that just happened.
ReplyDeleteYou guys need to lighten up, I found this hilarious myself.
ReplyDeleteI think my IQ dropped by 5 points after watching that. If you'll excuse me I'll try to forget what I just saw by smashing my head against a wall.
ReplyDelete*smack*
*smack*
*SMACK* *slumps unconscious to the floor*
WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!?!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, that was just one big meme orgy... do I get 10 internets for each one I know? :3
This is the apex of try-hardness.
ReplyDeleteI don't even... This did not just happend...
ReplyDeleteIt had it's moments but it felt REALLY forced. It's like they had all the ingredients for comedy soup but instead made something that gave everyone food poisoning.
ReplyDeleteForced meme is forced. All that there is to say about this.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the Cowboys & Equestrians one? It has an Applejack! Ish...
ReplyDeleteI know they tried to lampshade the whole thing during the Happy Cat part but... no.
ReplyDeleteSpamming memes almost incoherently does not a funny skit make. I was willing to give this a fair chance but it really felt like they were throwing things against the wall and hoping something would stick.
They do get points for the Nyan-cat sequence, but that's it.
Not only was that actually pretty funny, but it was the first time I've ever laughed at anything involving the troll face. I think that makes it a success.
ReplyDeleteIs it bad that I understood all of that?
ReplyDelete"I still don't understand any of this."
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly. <.<
This show is even worse than Know Your Meme's cashing in, and thievery from Reddit.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, if you like this you should take a long cold shower and rethink your life. This is all coming from an adult that loves My Little Pony.
ReplyDeleteMy monocle fell into my tea two separate times in the viewing of this animation. It was quite droll. My womanservant found it quite amusing as well, however my manservant simply feigned amusement.
ReplyDeleteMy wife shall receive electronic post of this soon, and will hopefully receive it well.
The main image is from the production images. They obviously can't put Derpy and Rainbow cause that stuff is owned by Hasbro.
ReplyDeleteIs this supposed to be funny? I'm not sure..
ReplyDeleteNice touch though. *claps*
Its like they took a cue from G4 and are just trying - too - hard...
ReplyDeleteWow, more "___ is unamused" from the crowd. Again, I found this to be hilarious for what it was. Whether it was MAD capitalizing on memes in general, them trying to appeal to us, or them just being asses, I don't know, but I just found the references to be another reason why the internet and what we've been doing for the past 10 or so years is finally being recognized for what it is: another form of entertainment.
ReplyDeleteAnd *first guy to mention it on here*.
A great summery of the first episode of the new Thundercats show.
ReplyDeleteYou know that feeling you get when parents try to be "hip" to their kid's slang? That's this, right here.
ReplyDeleteThis show is so freaking reference-heavy. I've watched it before, and I look at most of the jokes and think, "Are kids even going to get this?" Well, at least they have Spy vs. Spy.
ReplyDelete@4a93714c-db1a-11e0-a4c4-000f20980440
ReplyDeleteThey can if it's parody.
Thunder
ReplyDeleteThunder
Thundercats... lol
I am not at all a fan of the new MAD TV, but... this one genuinely made me laugh. XD
ReplyDeleteThe show I watch for comedy and good morale that gives me a sense of nostalgia (MPL FIM) is now involved in the network of cartooned idiocy?
ReplyDeleteWhere's the Cyanide Potassium when you need it?
I watched his and thought "I have never animated anything before. I could do better than this. Probably by vomiting over my computer."
ReplyDeleteI mean, yay pony cameos, but seriously, this is what Cartoon Network puts out nowadays? I'm quite glad it's a paid channel here in the Netherlands. It means I won't have it programmed into my TV automatically.
Well that was the definition of shit.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely the worst thing I have witnessed in my life.
ReplyDeleteI find them turning the ponies into flying pigs to be awesome, actually. It's a layered joke about both the sketch and MLP becoming a thing.
ReplyDeleteyou know how they say that something can be so bad its good? well, this isnt the case. this is just plain bad. its shit. its retarded. an utterly pathetic attempt at comedy. damn.
ReplyDeleteDat Trollface...
ReplyDeleteNot as bad as the first one, I guess.
ReplyDeleteTo be perfectly honest, I've been browsing the internet for about eight years now, and I still don't get it.
ReplyDeleteSo much meme. Why can't I hold all this meme?
ReplyDeleteOh Jeez, I think this just stabbed out my brain with a rusty pitchfork.
ReplyDeleteThis is like an amalgama of what goes on when 14 year old little snots discover the internet and decide to go to 4chan. And I honestly have no idea who would find it funny.
See, this is why, on friendship is magic, we have people working who take inspiration from things that people KNOW are funny, like Loony Tunes and Benny Hill. This is why FiM is so good. Not like this show where they sit their fat asses down in a little blocked off box and scour the internet for what they think is the "new, hip, trendy humor" or some crap and dump it all into a short. This is pathetic, and I can't see anybody beyond the age of 14 laughing at it.
Let us forget this ever happened.
Damn you MAD. You strike again.
ReplyDeleteNow I don't usually put things this bluntly but... What the HELL did I just watch?
ReplyDeleteI'll admit that I did chuckle a bit at some parts of this short, particularly the "Troll-rah, the Ever Trolling" bit, probably because of the delivery of the line. And I did enjoy trying to pick out all the memes they shoved into it.
ReplyDeleteOther than that it was ok, not the funniest thing I've ever seen, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't even smile while watching it. Whether or not that means I have a shit sense of humor I don't know nor care. What makes me laugh will make me laugh.
But yeah, the ponies did look pretty weird here.
I like how internet hypocrisy even holds strong with bronies in this site
ReplyDeletein the end a bunch of internet hipsters
if for some reason this was a newgrounds or a video on youtube people would not be complaining
seriously one of the few decent things MAD has done (or the only one) regarding parodies and mash ups and people just hate it just because its MAD, I guess liking a show about ponies didn't though anyone any kind of freaking lesson, nothing new there
Glorious.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I actually enjoyed this bit. I think it did a pretty good job poking fun at internet memes. I recognised alot of 'em, I like how they even included the famous "troll face," "Weegee," and "Derpy Hooves" ones.
ReplyDeleteI also liked how they even regard the memes as "stupid & overused," sense that's true of all internet memes, I feel. (But no matter how stupid, I still love them.) ;) And in order to fight back against them you have to use even stupider ones. I also like how the old dude at the end even remarks, "I don't get all of this," sense I'm sure some people won't get some of the references.
I honestly don't get all the "MAD"-bashings lately. (MAD magazine's pretty cool.) Some of the skits are pretty amusing, while some are hit-and-miss, I admit. (Same goes for "Robot Chicken," wich is more vulgar & shock-value-based, so it's honestly not "much better.")
@Coyote
ReplyDeleteThat's probably because we expect higher standards for commercial productions then some dude who makes a Flash vid in his spare time to post on the Internet. Not only that, but if it was on Newgrounds, the author could actually take the feedback and CHANGE IT for the better.
Apples & oranges, really. Now, I DO agree that some folks are overreacting, but that's par for the course whenever it comes to online comments.. ;)
@aramaru: "Now, I DO agree that some folks are overreacting, but that's par for the course whenever it comes to online comments.. ;)"
ReplyDeleteThis. Sad but pretty much universally true.
Can I have some of that cheeseburger?! What internet are they on?
ReplyDeleteThis is Red Lobster, come in Book Fort?
ReplyDeleteIt was like watching a /b/ thread... do not want... 3|
ReplyDeleteI'm only sorry Troll-rah didn't say "All your base are belong to us!".
ReplyDeleteThis ladies and gentleman is an example of why cartoon network cannot capture it's success it had from the Early 90's to the Mid 00's
ReplyDelete@Firleycat
ReplyDeleteRUN, RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!
Oh InterMad. Problem? Y U NO LIE?
ReplyDeleteOh InterMad. Problem? Y U NO LIE?
ReplyDelete@Dusty the Royal Janitor well said couldn't say it better my self
ReplyDeleteRainbow Dash was freaking hideous.
ReplyDeleteThen again, that is MAD's style.
1:17 rainbow with boxing gloves
ReplyDeleteMust not die from incessant laughing...
ReplyDelete@Artsie Bee
ReplyDeleteDid I just catch my girlfriend cursing on the internet? X3 (P.S. Hiya)
Anyway, was barely even pony-related, but it introduced me to MAD, which if nothing else has hilarious names for episodes (2012 Dalmations? Naru210?).
Would have been better to link to Cowboys and Equestrians, which actually includes My Little Pony references outright.
I found both main parts to be really funny. Plus I've watched ben 10, but why would they even bother to joke about infringement when Ben 10 is also owned by Warner Brothers?
ReplyDeleteAnd what the heck was the king lion saying when the sp- I mean mum-ra backstabbed him?
@relias
You should see the celestia is a professional tea troll video then...
@Pyrobug
Spy vs Spy will never disappoint! Have some Gmod-Made TF2 Spy vs Spy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_8EXIN5ObA
The original animatic is so much better. Still a bit of a fail, but the ponies don't just look like flying pigs. And this version's missing Derpy. :(
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, I just accidentally the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to laughing at cheeseburger bit, but overall this video was pretty lame.
ReplyDeleteI thought this video was awesome. ThunderLOLCats added with Cowboys Vs Equestrians made that episode of MAD the best in the season. Lost it on Lyonlol Nyan Mode.
ReplyDeleteIt's like cartoons are being aimed at my age bracket again. PegaSis feeling pretty good on this front! ^-^
it was funny, but they make their references too obvious, not just in this episode, but all the time, it would have been so much better if they were more subtle
ReplyDeleteim famous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt felt like drinking condenced newfag. Even my tears are crying, not from sadness, but from sheer pain!!!
ReplyDeletethat video was like 5 minutes on that funnyjunk site.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll quit the internet few a few days...
There was another segment I know played right before this one called "Cowboys and Equestrians".
ReplyDeleteObviously, as the name states, there was a much bigger focus on ponies in that one than on this one. Was it already posted?
@johnlmonkey
ReplyDeleteMuch like the internet! .... And Spongebob!
And here's why CN is s?!@ and has been s?!@ since 2007, shows like this. I guess Stuart Snyder is still running that sinking ship known as CN. I hope MLP does NOT get picked up by CN, on the air the first season, gone the next.
ReplyDeleteThe show I've observed with some of my cousins is full of references. Do they think that 7 - 13 year olds who typically watch that show and know what a meme is? No. They're trying to refer to stuff kids don't even know about. Next time we'll have a sex joke.
ReplyDeleteShows like this start to fall once the kids don't laugh at the jokes. The only reason kids would laugh about this is not because fo the jokes, but because of the random. Kids love random.
Simply, the show is trying to be like memebase on steroids and throw in some of the most known memes- That mainly people who don't watch CN.
@PonyPonyPonyBrony
ReplyDeleteI think they're a year late.
@BlueBreeze Don't forget this was showing to kids who dont spend all day looking at memes like we do. This wouldve been all pretty overwhelming and original to them because theyve never seen any of em before :P
ReplyDeleteI'm TROLLRA! The EVER TROLLING!
ReplyDelete
