So you’ve finally caved. You went to the store and bought yourself a plastic pony in celebration of the first episode of season two. Or maybe you’ve had your collection for a while, and you’ve just let that hair go because you’re not sure what to do with it.
I’m here to fix that.
The above is a quote from the author. I couldn't have said it better myself. You can find this in-depth guide by Scaradango, complete with picture references, on his DeviantArt here.
On another note, I don't care how many man cards I just turned in for this post.

You still have mancards? Mine ran out long ago.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if want
ReplyDeletei need this for Rarity!!!
ReplyDeleteall of my manlyness, take it
ReplyDeleteCereal, haven't you learned already? All Bronies have a life-time supply of man-cards.
ReplyDeleteAlready styled Pinkie Pie and Rarity. Rarity's hair was a pain. Had to go out and buy bobby pins and straws....almost, and I said 'almost' bought actual curlers since I was on my 5th styling attempt. But since they only came in a huge bag, I passed. Finally got her styled in such a way that I was happy enough with. I would get Twilight but I think I am going to commission a plush instead and leave any other Pony related purchases to a welovefine shirt.... oh, i said that out loud...
ReplyDeleteMan cards? those still exist?
ReplyDeleteSo that's why Rarity's hair looks more like Sweetie Belle's
ReplyDeleteDr. Cox: "These are man-cards, every time you do something unmanly, I take one."
Dr. Dorian: "I like the calligraphy on these."
Dr. Cox: "Hand it over."
I prefer the little plastic figures that look more like the cartoon counterparts. But there's not as big a collection.
ReplyDeleteAnd a pox on man cards!
I prefer they really start making Pony toys but WAY MORE ACCURATE.
ReplyDeleteAt least toys of these GMOD models. I don't feel like buying something that looks like G3.
Why would you be turning in mancards? You should be receiving more of them in truck loads!
ReplyDeletewell.....considering the hair was really the only thing stopping me from buying them.......i now have no excuses but i MUST find dash first..seems the only one ive yet to find in any local store
ReplyDeleteI already had Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy, but I did actually buy another pony (Applejack) in celebration for season 2 the night before. And Cereal ponies are super manly!
ReplyDeleteI was unaware of the process of boil-perming toy Ponies' manes.
ReplyDeleteNow that I am, I am curious to give it a shot...
Don't worry, Twilight! I'll save your coiffure!
So a friend of mine fixed her pony hair months ago, and offered to help me with mine. I just haven't had time to meet with her.
ReplyDeleteI saw this guide, and figured it'd be a good way to fix their manes without her help.
...nope, it's a link to HER dA. So much for not her help. I'll just schedule that meeting, hehe.
This is just so ironic. These toys were DESIGNED to have their hair styled. Yet while the target demographic might be running the plastic brush through its hair and putting on a rubber band, we have 20+ year olds cutting, boiling, and curling the hair in a full out effort to get it styled "right". It's hilarious and I love it.
ReplyDeleteHah! I never had man cards to begin with- I'm actually a girl! :P
ReplyDelete*waves at Chris*
Duh, of course you loose your man cards when playing with My little pony. They give you an Upgraded Brony card in exchange
ReplyDeleteI'm just not interested in the "Brushable" ponies. I might get some of the blind bag ones eventually, but only if i can find a way to ensure I get Rarity, Twilight, or Fluttershy
ReplyDeleteCool. So, anyone been to Furaffinity yet? Bronies took over the Banner. xD
ReplyDelete@NDupree93
ReplyDeleteThere is! All pony product codes are known, the Toys R Us set has all the mane six, and if you buy the tube of four, that fo'sho comes with Rarity and Twilight.
@ninto55
ReplyDeleteBTW, Internet explorer is being paranoid about Google account sign ins. :/
ReplyDeleteThe only one I've got is a Twilight with a missing leg we found in the street. I may like the show, but I'm too cheap to ever buy anything concerning it (so far).
ReplyDeletewhat?...they gave me extra man cards when i became a brony...
ReplyDeletelol, What Silent Hunter? You did the whole @Ninto55 thing but you didn't say anything :p
ReplyDeleteAlso, how do I do that whole @ thing?
And finnally am I the only one who has IMMENSE problems posting on this site? I have to load the page and refresh before it lets me. Right now I'm typing before the refresh so I'm gonna have to cop paste.
@ninto55
ReplyDeleteTry using firefox, it obviously works for me.
Curling around the leg is fine, but I prefer to use sponge curlers. (you can literally buy 12 for a 1$) that way you don't have that long straight piece before the curl. :)

Yeah, playing with dolls is where I draw the line.
ReplyDeleteTHE LINE MUST BE DRAWN HEE-ARR! THIS FAR, NO FARTHER!
And *I* will make them pay for what they've done...
I just lost my last excuse for not buying one of those...god damnit. NO ONE MUST KNOW. Besides you all.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I've not been all that picky on their hair. Lunacy, I know! But these are always really helpful in case you do want to try styling them better. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the blind bag ones as well, but I want the mane 6 and I really can't find them.
ReplyDeleteMan cards?
ReplyDeleteI have a template for them, I just print them up as I need them.
@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteYou say that now, Captain Picard, but just you wait. In a few episodes' time, you might find yourself sitting in the ready room, subversively brushing Fluttershy while muttering about omnipotent trickster pests.
Yay! I never really understood the whole "fresh-rooted" look that a lot of people seem to like to leave.
ReplyDeleteTo me the hairstyle is a part of the customization, big time.
Nice for the official toys too, to push them at least a bit closer to accuracy.
@Marrock Me too. I think I've lost over a million of those things.
ReplyDeleteI actually did the whole conditioner thing once. It's not really great for styling, but it's good for when you "borrow" your sister's ponies for a project and want to give them back in better shape.
Awesome guide. *thumbs up*
ReplyDeleteOne word of caution to people gearing up to try hair styles . . . DO NOT USE METAL BOBBY PINS. They can rust. They can rust FAST. I have experienced this while styling a G1 Sparkler. I had her in straws and bobby pins for two days and she got rust on her hair.
I've been waiting for this. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI really needed one of these. I have a Fluttershy and a Rarity I haven't taken out of their boxes cause I didn't know what to do with their hair. Now I know, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI think I lost all my man cards as soon as I realized I know 90% of the lyrics to Art of the Dress (Its always that middle verse I forget).
I only bought my Twilight and Applejack a couple of weeks ago. Took me around 5 months to work up the courage, lol. I'll make sure to come back to this when my pony's hair gets bad enough that it needs to be fixed up, but for now, it's fine (although I sure would like to make my Twilight's hair look just like it does on the show.... dang it!)
ReplyDeleteHair care and maintenance is the reason I haven't tried to force Fluttershy out of her little protective bubble.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic. Now I just have to work up the courage to do it. As a kid, I butchered so many Barbies trying to "fix" their hair that now I'm terrified of trying anything on a doll I actually care about...
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for one of these for a while.
I have no man cards. I'm not a brony, I'm a filly. I do really need this though. Right now, Rarity's mane and tail are straight. It looks pretty good, but I would like it curly. Sweetie Belle and Luna have hair that is in desperate need of styling, and Pinkie's is okay. I've thought about French braiding it or fishtail braid it, but I'm not really sure about it. Dangit! I'm rambling again!
ReplyDeleteUm, cool?
ReplyDeleteYou bronies and your silly "man cards". To quote Pinks, you're all oatmeal.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Fluttershy is in dire need of the help contained in these pages!
ReplyDeleteMy Pinkie Pie figure is now officially on Equestria Daily. My life is complete.
ReplyDeleteWell....somewhat on ED. Close enough. I feel special nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to know is how to fix the hair on my poor plushies, Twilight and Pinkie. And the talking Twilight. They all look like they are on the final round of bad chemotherapy. Are there any good links on how to fix plushy hair?
ReplyDeleteI tried doing this, and none of them came out nearly as well as these pictures. They look a TAD better, but mostly just because boiling the hair and letting it dry does that. I couldnt get Rainbow's hair to look like it should for the life of me. I did cheat and use less than a dab of glue to hold her bangs to her head. And My fluttershy has almost straight hair now. Didnt curl at all. And my rarity looked so bad i just said to hell with it and did a bunch of weird things with it to make it look good.
ReplyDeleteThis is mostly based on my lack of skill, but still, even follwoing the directions perfectly, and giving plenty of time to dry, it didnt come out nearly as much as i hoped, or for the effort put into it
If I met a guy with an MLP figure, I'd marry him.
ReplyDelete@NDupree93
ReplyDeleteI have stallion cards :P
