This picture is awesome. I'm going to stare at it for a few minutes, and then I'll get back to you, ok?
All right, wonderful. We're back with this breaking news. Thanks to a tip from a mysterious pony known only as CK, we've recently unearthed some video tutorials on Youtube of how to draw many of your favorite FiM characters. Digitally, at least. It's not going to make you a master of illustrator programs, but getting to see each detail as its sketched out is a valuable learning experience. There's rather a lot of these so I'm not going to bother with embeds, but check out the collection after this convenient page break. Today's page break sponsored by Brony Cola. Brony Cola: is it ok to love a cola this much? (Non-Sponsors, you don't know what you're missing out on! =D)

Y NO RAINBOW DASH?
ReplyDeleteWhy not the other CMCs?
ReplyDeleteNot bad, I guess. A little off-model, but still very nice.

Still, my attempts at drawing linework with a tablet still kinda suck... Which is why I stick with drawing on paper and scanning.
Kwl
ReplyDeleteStill believe there is no rainbow dash ones though. I think that is blasphemy in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteNo Rainbow Dash?... why no love?
ReplyDeleteSo it requires basic ability to draw?
ReplyDeleteDammit.
Yay, another Brony Cola reference. It's not old yet.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wish they would do this for pen and paper but, luckily, I found a great book a few years back on how to draw various cartoons and it actually helps you AT LEAST draw proportions.
No Rainbow Dash? I am disappoint.
ReplyDelete@ZMorris
ReplyDeleteWell spoken. That's what I do as well.
These are good, might help me make some of the stuff i draw better.
ReplyDelete@ZMorris
ReplyDeleteI still do that as well. I'll scan my inked line art and smooth it out in Illustrator before digital coloring.
I just can't get the hang of freeform sketching digitally.
Enough with the brony cola. That pic is creepy
ReplyDeleteEven though my drawing skills are intermediate/advanced I'll take a look at these videos. I know how to draw them by heart, but I always love seeing how other artists approaches these characters.
ReplyDeleteI just don't have a steady enough hand for this...

@Somepony Else
ReplyDeleteI cant draw to save my soul. best thing I ever made was a rock.
I work by eye (minus colors), but it's good to know there's someone putting up tutorials for everypony else.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what do you mean "yes, really"? Scootaloo is best CMC. Of course there's a tutorial on her.
What's odd is that there's no Sweetie Belle tutorial. Get to it, drago! *whips*

Everything I draw looks like puke. :(
ReplyDeleteI am already a master of Illustrator. lol.
ReplyDelete@Jake
ReplyDeletedumb rock!! you could call it a potato
lack of Rainbow dash? :(
ReplyDeleteomg he draws it like its nothing. Just look at how he just doodles rarity's hair where i had to spend more time than i am man enough to admit on her hair.
ReplyDeleteCool, although as someone who has no experience with drawing I learned nothing from this. I'm just glad I had another excuse to see Scootaloo. ^_^
ReplyDeleteIf anything sponsered EQD I thought it'd be Equestrian Innovations.
ReplyDeletethese are great...but no way in hell can i do these lol
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that Phoe is getting to post more often! She didn't have much space here before imo.
ReplyDeleteI just hope she doesn't become sleepdeprived like Seth..
Oh yeah, the videos are nice too.
Dammit, I got excited when I clicked on this. Rainbow Dash was the only one I really wanted to try! *sigh* Fine, I'll go with Twilight. She's pretty chill.
ReplyDelete@bronydash
ReplyDeleteTwilight is the easiest IMO and RD is second easiest. Since her hair isn't in any special order it's hard to notice if it's not quite right. Rarity and Pinkie Pie have the most difficult hair, especially from different angles.
My artist/animator friend is telling me these are 'really fun to watch, but need more info'. I like the music though!
