• Story: A Tangled Web (Update Part 3!)

[Sad][Adventure][Grimdark] That is both the longest stream of tags and the longest description I have ever seen. Brevity is the soul of wit, ponies.

    Author: lesserpoet
Description: Every civilization is predicated upon a set of founding myths, a unique Pantheon of heroes and villains. We laud them, idolize them, even speak for them. The nice thing about our legends though, is that they remain firmly locked in our past. They are, in a word, dead.

Imagine for a moment that they were not gone forever. Imagine if one day, they returned, and wanted their power back. Imagine if what we knew of them was built on lies.

Equestria has had 1000 years of relative peace, and prosperity. With the return of Luna, the balance upon which her walls have stood has been restored. Unfortunately, every empire falls. Often, our epilogues are etched deep into those histories that brought about the founding itself. The Elements of Harmony saved the fallen Princess, but their power comes with a heavy cost. When an ancient lie is revealed, when an old dawn threatens the survival of the Equestrian Age, an opportunity arrises to write history anew.... but even in this, as in everything else, what's past is bound to be prologue.

    1. At least it didn't say "FIRST!"

This defnitely sounds interesting. I may delay Crack of Thunder again for a few more hours...

    2. Seems like the prologue itself is the summary to this fic.

It interests me, *puts on his long reading list*

    6. Angel... just... Angel. Good grief. 5/5, because I got emotional reading it, and only great writing could do that.

    7. This is very good so far, but please stop interrupting charachters so much when they're going to explain something. Rarity: "What's going on is-"

      Spike rushes in "ZOMG"

      "omg what's happening?"

Spike:"well you see..." fade to black

    8. Dude..... I think that's the whole point.

    9. @Anonymous

I can see why you might be concerned with that tactic, if overused it can become quite cheap, but (at least in the case of Spike) I employed it simply because what he was about to say the reader already knew: you see it happen. (Rarity was kind of a tease, sorry about that :p )

Thanks, everypony, for the kind words and pointers, I'm glad y'all are enjoying it so far. I should have chapter 3 out very soon, and four and five should be forthcoming (hopefully) by the end of next week.

    10. Some-thing- has come and rained down destruction. Killded Celestia too. And ruined everything.

      And brought death.

It's the humans, isn't it... spacefaring ones?

    13. @Fifth Alicorn Comments are most highly appreciated, Fifth Alicorn. I am finishing chapter three as I write this, I should have it edited before saturday. From there, it's on to four and five!

WoT? No... I can honestly say I am not familiar with it.

    16. Ah, well the way you present everything + your writing style remind me a bit of Wheel of Time.

A very good thing in my book. Keep it up :D

    17. this is a good read. i'd like to see more episodic ponyville adventures rather than these elaborate drama's that if made into a book would bare an intricate mural of half of the characters on some distant desert planet.

    18. Hm. I'm torn. I can already see that I shouldn't follow this story when I'm already following three other [GrimDark][Adventure][Sad] ones.

On the other hand, the first few chapters were written well enough that I can't think of a good enough reason for me to not read it other than just that I'm being a massive pussy about it.

I suppose I'll have to add it to the list.
