The whole idea of Sock Swap as a major holiday is hilarious, and the story builds on that silliness wonderfully well, while still staying true to MLP:FiM's general feel and themes of friendship. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI giggled, a lot like Luna giggled, from the beginning to the end of this story. Everything from the characterizations to the "big scene" at the end were well done.

While at times the story became disconnected and confusing as to what character the current focus was on, I found it to be well thought out and could see this as a long-winded, yet charming episode.

I liked number two out of the happy luna fics best but almost all of them were brilliant, this was no exception. So much happiness in all these.

Okay the Socks thing is cute as hell, and tends to agitate my Diabetus...However I was kinda creeped out by this story.

Author here. Here's some behind-the-scenes info on the conceptualization of this fic since I liked doing that last time.
ReplyDelete- This fic actually represents the second story idea I had for the Happy Luna contest. The first idea I had took place shortly after Luna's return, and had Luna visiting each Element of Harmony to discuss with them in detail why each element was important. Then I decided the concept was a little too serious for the contest, so I came up with something goofier. I still like the original idea, though, so I may eventually write it up as a separate fic.
- As an intermission to the story, originally I was going to include a "clipping" of Luna's newspaper article on the history of socks, complete with pictures. Unfortunately, I couldn't come up with enough good ideas for it to make it particularly funny, so I left it out. Just to put it out there, though, I was planning on using a grainy version of Luna's "DON'T GO TO SLEEP" image as her newspaper profile photo.
- To fulfill the contest's "pony racing" theme, I was originally considering having Luna race Rainbow Dash on a whim. I'm not entirely sure when Luna turned into Scootaloo.

I like all the ponies, so I tend to want to keep an eye on all of them, but I acknowledge that that can make for some jarring scene transitions. I'll keep your comment in mind for future fics, and see what I can do to make the pacing less confusing.

ReplyDeleteWonderful, sometimes it seemed a bit chaotic, yet in a good way. It may not made me outright laugh, but it was amusing and charming read.

I read all the winners and a few others so far. In my opinion this was the hands down #1.
ReplyDeleteIt had a lot of humor (that didn't feel forced), even Luna's extreme quirkiness seemed believable- in part due to her lack of sleep and giddiness. And it managed to use every character well and in character.
The only part I didn't really buy was Spike charging the stage to eat Rarity's socks. That was a bit too silly and, in my opinion, out of character.

I dare say this was almost TOO silly for my taste. But I enjoyed it anyway, especially the puppet sword-fight. You had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what the heck was actually going on.

ReplyDeleteAfter reading this i felt like wearing socks. wonder where that idea came from. on my left foot is a pink sock with multicolored polka-dots and on my right foot is a brown sock with gold snowflakes. loved the writing,comedy was hilarious and the jokes followed seamlessly. its not very often you find a story with a happy luna, and this one really sold it. quirky luna was great, and her jokes were awesome and in good humor, especially sockwear moon.the sock puppet fight was awesome, and at first i thought luna was being spontaneous when she joined in, so that added to her kookiness. all in all, i loved the plot, and i hope to see more from the author.

ReplyDeleteThe whole story was amazing. I think the whole concept of the (more or less) spontaneous sock puppet show was an amazing idea. I was either smiling or laughing hysterically throughout the entire story. Great job on this, man :P
