ReplyDeleteYou did it Rarity, you made me like you today, i hope your happy!
ReplyDeleteThat's a rarity to say the least?
ReplyDeleteI C WUT U DID TH3R3!
Congratulations on getting an OC/mane ship past the pre-readers. Let me tell you that it is no easy task. Looking forward to seeing how this develops/continues.
ReplyDeleteAh finally. We got us some other Bronies branching out from the status quo of shipping mane characters with other mane characters. I mean, I like a good Flutter/Dash story as much as the next Brony here, but honestly it gets a little tiresome. You can only read so many of them before they get repetitive. So a big 5 star to you for breaking the mold.
ReplyDeleteYay.
ReplyDeleteI think it's going too far, though.
ReplyDeleteI mean, we are accepting OC ponies more and more...
It's only a matter of time
Before we bronies lose our sanity.
And then when season 2 comes out one of two things will happen.
The series will be awful for some random reason, and the fandom will die.
The series will be amazing, and everypony will go crazy. The fandom may grow as we create more PMVs.
But this? This is pathetic. OC ponies... But I'll be a sane man and not put a bad rating on something I haven't read just because I disagree with the idea of it (unlike some ponies)
What's the big deal with OC ponies?
ReplyDeleteThere's a difference between OC when it means self-insert and OC when it means adding a character because there's no existing one to fit the role.
ReplyDeleteUnless you'd like every M/F pairing of all time to involve Spike, Caramel or Big Macintosh whether it makes sense or not.
I'm confused as to what happened in the 2nd chapter for all we know Rarity grew up in Ponyville and if this was 2 years prior to FIM Luna would still be banished
ReplyDelete@KShrike OC ponies if well written aren't bad. Read Memories of those we have Forgotten. A fantastic story that features OC ponies filling roles.
ReplyDelete@KShrike
ReplyDeleteI for one applaud this writer, because it takes stones to go against the curve, break the mold as Tom said. you say we'll lose our sanity over OC ponies, but I believe the opposite. The repetition of stories involving the mane cast being shipped with each other will cause less and less interest in fan fiction, and therefore, slightly less interest in MLP overall.
I mean, how many times can we see a Twiluna, or Twixie fic with a different buildup, but same ending result? How many times, I ask you, before it gets OLD?
OCs keep things fresh, I think. New characters with personalities we know nothing about provides an interesting look at things, and I believe, makes for an intriguing story.
Keep at it, JordanJwoww, no matter who steps on ya' for writing an OC pony..!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt comes from angry people, who forget the fact that you can only do so MUCH with 1to6 characters before things get repetitive...
Hence the need for 'exterior' characters, who bare personalities simillar to the main cast, opposite, a gradation, a mix of some plus other exotic stuff not normally present, etc...
It multiplies the possibilities exponentially.
The ONLY thing with OCs is that they must be well thought and build.
They must be well structured, to be able to hold comparaison to the Original Main 6.
@Nova25
ReplyDeleteDamn straight. The fiction in the fandom simply needs more variety, and creativity must not be stifled by stigmas. Simple as that.
*brohoof*
@KShrike
ReplyDeleteYeaaaaaah... just go and say that in the 'Fallout:Equestria' or the 'Past Sins' stories...
I give you a 3% chance of survival... 2% of which is the 'error margin'.
Also... see : @Ficksitup and @Nova25
@Nova25
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of background ponies to choose from.
OC like this has always the risk of being at least partial self-insert.
better safe than sorry, I guess.
Lol i love the story :) and i'm a dork so i like to pair up stories with songs, chapter 2 goes perfect with "Fall For You" by Second Hand Serenade
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSafety? Safety, you say? Since when did anything new, or impressive come out of safety? You must take risks for development.
Must I bring up creativity again? It's far better, and more challenging to make a good OC than to select a random background pony with a pre-determined mark and everything.
New things are good. Example: MLP:FiM.
Doubted the hell out of it.
Now look.
Frankly there shouldn't be any restrictions on what is appropriate, although I guess a clear line has been drawn against clopfics.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise if you don't like it, that's what the red x button at the window corner is for.
oh I see what you did there
ReplyDeleteActually, it's funny you all mention OCs as self-inserts, because I realized a few weeks ago that Luna is the template for the ultimate Mary Sue:
ReplyDelete- Redeemed from her dark and tortured past? Check.
- Phenomenal Cosmic Power? Check.
- Has little to no responsibility or obligations? Check.
- Regularly seen in fanfic making out with mane characters? Check yes!
The fact that we've gotten some really amazing Luna fics out of it in spite of all that is practically a miracle.
OC fics don't have to be bad by any means, but that does not mean we have to lower our standards and just accept ANY fic that tries to break the mold. If I were to accept any OCxCanon ship, then the OC would have to have a ton of build-up pre-ship. OCs that exist for the sake of shipping are just dull. The mane 6 have gotten 26 episodes of character development under their saddles, so relationships between them are believable when written well. But why should I care about some new guy I've never heard of before?
ReplyDelete@Stephen
ReplyDeleteWhere is it said she has little to no responsibility or obligations? Presumably, she's still the one that raises the moon every night. And the last one is only the fan interpretation.
Twilight Sparkle is ten times the Mary Sue that Luna will ever be.
-Has incredible powers that no ordinary unicorn has, and discovered these powers accidentally as a child, almost causing a disaster.
-She is also "ashamed" of these powers at one point. (Boast Busters)
-Extremely anti-social in the beginning, but yet everybody instantly wanted to be her friend.
-She is the embodiment of the most powerful Element of Harmony, implying she's been the "chosen one" who was meant to defeat Nightmare Moon all along.
-Purple.
Reading through these comments make me see that people are worried that the OC pony may end up being a self-insert or something partial like that. I can reassure you that I share no connections to the OC pony and do not intend to throughout the story. Just, FYI

@RiffBrony
ReplyDeleteWhat you just described seem to be the points of an interesting personality.
So... what is the point of calling characters ''mary-whatever'' ? This is really just some weird trend, to call everything and anything a ''mary-thing'', now theses days.
Is the story well made ? Are the (other)characters remotely interesting ? Is what's happening in the story interesting by any mean ? More etc ?
-Yes ? Then it's a good story...
It would be of 'very odd logic' to hate or dislike a story SIMPLY because of one single element composing it, no ?
...now if people have finished arguing over something barely interesting; I believe there's a story somewhere in this page to be read ?
Enjoy what can be enjoyed and, for the rest, quick-comment then next story.
I think OC ponies are good if done well. We have already gotten some very well done characters from various stories posted on here.
ReplyDeleteNow that doesn't mean every OC is a winner. But we never know until people at least try. And honestly, I would like to see more fics that ship male/female. I like the ships we have, but a little variety goes a long way.
@JordanJwoww
ReplyDeleteNow don't you worry about what those silly neighsayers wrote. (please don't ever let me use that pun again)
Self insert or not, you're being creative and putting your own original character out there. From what I can tell, you've worked too hard to hesitate now. You're already on EQ. You've gotten your foot in the door.
Now you gotta make something of it.
my best friend :D proud of you
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I love OC's as long as they're well done. I like a little variety, and it's the sign of a good author when they do that. On the other hand, I'm not into shipping. At all. So as I'm not going to read this story, I saw mention OD an OC/mane cast shipping, and was interested in what the comments would say. Also, I'm hoping there's some new characters in season 2 to add variety, hopefully a couple guys, just to mix things up.
ReplyDelete30 comments, almost all of them being in response to another typical KShrike "The world is ending because of Thing X" comment. So I suppose I must ask directly, since I obviously can't trust the star rating on this story:
ReplyDeleteIs the story any good?
@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteIt's good so far. We're only in the character development, but what we've seen of Rarity's relationship with Prestige makes me really feel sorry for her that he left for the city. Though, I'm sure he has his reasons.
He'd better, this fanfic doesn't have any [Sad] or [Dark] tags.
Bleh, I'll have to read this sometime.
ReplyDeleteWell, so much for being discreet there, Rarity.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a Fresh Prince reference?
HOW COULD YOU?
This is amusing. Couple typos, but nothing too breaking.
ReplyDeleteOh look, a fanfic that gets downvoted by everyone because it's not their OTP. Way to go bronies.
