I wonder if Season 2 will give the characters a makeover just like Avatar did with each of it's seasons
ReplyDeleteA grown up Luna would be amazing (even tho it's harder to draw ;P)
This was pretty well written, i quite liked the way they protrayed luna in it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the title, i was expecting a crossover with the old TV show night court. But who would play Bull?
ReplyDeleteThis story had better have a cameo by Richard Moll.
ReplyDelete@Seyren
ReplyDelete'Her royal highness Princess Luna presiding. Eeeeyup.'
When I read the title, I immediately heard "The People's Court" theme music in my head. Completely unrelated except for the word "court" though.
ReplyDeleteConstellation of Megan, the Helper?
ReplyDeleteI see what you did there. :3
@Anonymous And possibly John Larouquette.
ReplyDeleteI know if I go in hoping for that, I'm going to be disappointed, right?
The concept of a NIGHTMARE DUSK scenario intrigues me... interesting thought.
ReplyDeleteStory's really good so far. The revelation of Luna's guards becoming the Night Watch was wonderful, very touching.
Very humorous delivery for the most part, I enjoyed the conversation between Luna and Celestia at the beginning too. I find it odd that Luna automatically gave a speech without realising it, but it's no big deal.
Looking forward to more!
That was very good.
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint would be that it have an empty page at the bottom tricking me into believing it there was more already done than there actually is.
This resulted in a slight feeling of disappointment once I arrived at the cliffhanger at the end.
Looking forward to more

I found the story very, very funny. The added back-story to the police force and the "extended absence" was also intriguing.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely hoping there'll be more to the story.
So who else thinks Celestia had the throne enchanted to do all the boring speech-writing for her?
ReplyDeleteDo more of these right now. Somehow Equestrian Court drama fanfiction is best fanfiction.
ReplyDeleteDear Sir,
ReplyDeleteYour name of "El Grande" is fully deserved. Please write more, preferably about the crazy happenings of Night Court.
I mean it as the highest of praise when I say your vision of royal Canterlot reminds me of Half The Day Is Night, vibrant and dignified. I also love your Luna, a mixture of the shy fanon and the regal goddess, with a good lot of sisterly affection thrown for balance.
5/5, a great example of the gems the "Normal" tag so often hides.

That thought did occur to me.
Your teory is supported by the fact that Luna seems to have used words which she didn't even know the meaning of.

Laundry files reference win.
ReplyDeleteNight Court indeed! Where's the giant bald bailiff?
ReplyDeleteNow, who are we going to have playing Bob and June Wheeler? :D
ReplyDeleteThis is better than Law and Order.
ReplyDeleteAll jokes aside, this was really well written. You even managed to throw a few references in there. When I got to the end, I was like, "Wait, that's it?" Then, I realized, it was only the first chapter. :P
Oh, this is fascinating. Love, love, LOVE the references and the development of how Equestria's law enforcement came to be and traces back to pre-Nightmare Moon, the little in-jokes and references... you have a great start here! Definitely looking forward to more!
ReplyDeleteIs it bad I want more?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it is the throne or not. I've properly used words I didn't even know the meaning of while not sitting upon it. Unless it's some sort of residual effect.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she actually enchanted my crown.
@Luna
ReplyDeleteOr you are just that good and never forgot!
Who else thought Trail Burr was a dead ringer for Rooster Coughburn from True Grit?
ReplyDeleteYay for more Luna. Love the picture of full grown luna as well.
ReplyDeleteVery good story. Another example of how the character of Luna can be made extremely interesting if approached from the right angle. Can't wait for Chapter 2!
ReplyDelete@Seyren:
ReplyDeleteYou and me both.
Awesome story I hope there is more
ReplyDelete@blitzthedragon
ReplyDeleteDefinitely got similar vibes, but not quite 'dead ringer' level for me. I see what your sayin' though.
On the story as a whole: I enjoyed this one - it's a nice start and I'm looking forward to more =D
Um... Jeez, I'm well read but even I was confused. Allot of political speak going on in this fic, I can't really grade it, so much of it kind of flew over my head.
ReplyDeleteI liked it.
ReplyDeleteIt was decently well written.
One of the few that grabbed me.
I hope there is more as I am interested as how the rest of it goes.
Cheers~!
OH DEAR LUNA you made a pony version of Sir Humphrey Appleby for this fic and wrote him perfectly...
ReplyDeleteEl Grande, I think I love you now :D
Impressive. I would like to read more of this.
ReplyDeleteLoved it...
ReplyDelete*Makes a sarcastic remark about the hilariously inept current "democratic" system we live under*
I fully agree with some other comment, Equestrian court drama is from here on out the best fanfiction subject.
ReplyDeleteDo want moar.
I love the picture it's awesome.
ReplyDeleteI've just started trawling EQ fanfics (the first fanfiction I've enjoyed in years) and I assure you that this is one of the best crafted and most inspired pieces I've ever seen. Please write more.
ReplyDeleteI drew this princess Luna picture, here's the link to my original work http://fav.me/d45mnzd. I'm VERY ANGRY that it has been used without my permission. I WANT IT REMOVED!
ReplyDeleteIf Kapats is Sunley on DA then by post date Sunley posted the image first back on Aug 4th.
ReplyDeleteHowever I would say the image goes very very well with the story, and it's very good.
This is really really good. Like, very good. Im enjoying it is what im saying. Damn i wish i was better at giving critique.
ReplyDeleteThis was great.
ReplyDeleteA very good start to the story. All that it needs is more.
ReplyDeleteI like see Luna being more assertive and having a personality. Shy Luna is alright but I feel that to many authors read progress and then feel they must cast Luna as a super shy little girl.
ReplyDeleteI think the author did a good job here not creating another to shy Luna.
El Grande here. Part two is in progress. Thanks so much for your kind words and critiques.

ReplyDeleteas I great yes minister fan I think applebee pony is realy nice and I am a perticular fan of the sentance
ReplyDelete"The civil service has determined that both banishment and exile are non-operative terms that do not accurately reflect the current co-sovereign harmonization agenda,"
very nice
As a great fan of a certain BBC satire I am positively ashamed that it took me half the fic to get the Applebee reference. I wonder if we'll get to see a Bernard pony... And I expect Luna to be rather harder to "train" than Jim.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more.
"How bad can it be?"
ReplyDeleteNever ask this question in Equestria. It never ends well.
I honestly thought this was just a one shot. I got to the end, on the edge of my seat and found I'd have to wait for more. I'm really looking forward to seeing more.
ReplyDelete@VozDeSuenos
ReplyDeleteFor whatever reason, I thought the same thing. Also looking forward to where this goes.
This is hands down my 2nd favorite Luna. Please continue this story.
ReplyDeleteI really want to read more of this. Please write more so I can.
ReplyDeletesweet part two!
ReplyDeleteI liked this. I can't think of very much to say about it other than the fact it made me feel good reading it.
ReplyDeleteVery well written and Luna's been portrayed in one of the ways i think fits.
Thoroughly enjoyable. I hope there are more of these in the future. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the story; great examples of characters thinking on their feet and a fantastic exploration of the daily lives of the royalty of Equestria. Thank you for writing it, El Grande! A sequel would be lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI like this, such a fun read!
ReplyDeleteHrm out of curiosity, now that the main parts are done, will this spawn a series of short stories, in a slice of life style?
ReplyDeleteExample:
(3)Princess Luna v. (insert mylittlepony character name here)
(4)Princess Luna v. (insert mylittlepony character name here)
[the (#) is after 2 due to the first 2 parts of the story having been made already]
Snowflake V.S. Celestia? Is that a 'The Sun Is Tired' reference I see?
ReplyDeleteAww... it's complete? That's a shame.
Oh, my, my. Well, you certainly have outdone yourself for a finish there! Well done, and here's hoping for plenty more!
ReplyDeleteAwww, that's it?
ReplyDeleteAwww that's all there is?
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this!
I wonder if the brony who wrote this is a law student: so much legal vernacular! I admit, I found myself skimming a bit at first - all those meaty paragraphs, my brain is thinking, "Okay, do I really need to know all this?" But I was engaged when I heard about the original two members of the night watch had left Luna a legacy. That's pretty touching. And it seems that Luna is indeed destined to be a fair and decisive judge.
ReplyDelete@Kalianos
ReplyDelete"Decently well written", eeyup. Plus it's not umpty-ump chapters long so those of us with short attention spans don't forget the main plot...
El Grande, me gusta.
Only two parts? Awww :(
ReplyDeleteI want that story with the Mane 6 infiltrating the cult and mistaking each other as cultists.
ReplyDeleteA great ending! I can't wait to see what you do next.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading this one.
ReplyDeleteExcellent. Beyond the obvious references in part 2, I did enjoy themention of "Case Nightmare" plans Celestia has made. It just figures that someone with such an appreciation for the Batman Gambit would also have "protocols" for dealing with her own superpowered "allies", and even herself. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe Toro reference was BRILLIANT.
ReplyDeleteI used to love that show, so thank you for reminding me of it.
A great conclusion to a great fic. I'm glad for the opportunity to have read it.
ReplyDeletethis was amazing
ReplyDeleteThis was a good story. A little dry at parts, but I suppose that was the point of the setting. The humor that was peppered in was quite funny. It wasn't corny, and it wasn't over emphasized. I'd give this story a good 4/5. The only thing that I feel detracted from the story was the intense focus on legalistic terms and such. Clearly they served a purpose, but fewer could have been effectively used. Also, Applebee was just a bit too much. She could have been written as a "bad advisor" because of her lack of a "personal touch". I'm just somewhat critical of OC's I guess. I feel like they should prove themselves before they are accepted (just because they're written as competent does not make them good). I have a bit of a soft spot for Luna fics, so I really enjoyed this. I hope to see more from you, El Grande.
