I'm going to geek out for a second. I hope you don't mind.
We've featured these spinny pony models before, and they've always been very impressive. Tonight, we have some more, this time featuring our favorite princess pair. KP-ShadowSquirrel continues their march towards distracting us all to death with magnificent 3D pony plot with a Celestia (in both stereo and regular versions) and a Luna.
The Luna one details that these are made with Maya, ZBrush, and After Effects. I'm assuming they're passed through in that order- that the base model is done in Maya, refined and detailed in ZBrush, brought back into Maya for some final rendering, and then composited and prettied up in After Effects. I've used this workflow before, so, take my word for it that these are really impressive. Drop whatever you're doing and go take a look. They're magnificent.

ReplyDeleteSon of a bitch....
ReplyDeleteMY EYES!!! OH GLORY~
Very very good.
ReplyDeleteOh. Em. Gee. Spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I thought we were past bringing up plot with these 3D models. Sethisto stopped doing it. I think Cereal is starting to become an issue.
ReplyDeleteWow! I just love the detailing on those!
ReplyDeleteCereal, y u plot?
ReplyDeleteThe 3D effect makes Celestia's hair look less ethereal.
ReplyDeleteDAT LUNA!
Oh god, a dedicated plot tag.
ReplyDeleteman, that luna is incredibly detailed! that would make an amazing miniature or sculpture or.....whatever it is you guys call those things.
ReplyDeleteI tried to work in 3D too. It is... So hard... These are extremely impressive.
ReplyDelete@colt classic
ReplyDeleteSomeone should totally use these as a base for 3D printing. Oh sweet jeezus I have never wanted a 3D printer so badly.
The Luna one is amazing. Unbelievable detail.
ReplyDeleteThe Celly one is nearly as nice, but the two tiers of feathers on her wings look rather odd.
These are incredible.
ReplyDeleteThose models are very useful for drawing as well. Ya get a nice up-close look at the details of each pony. I am loving the Luna one by far!
ReplyDeleteSpin, me! Spin!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Now I'm as adorable as Scratch on a record player!
Does this mean there'll be gmod models for these two?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely incredible.
ReplyDelete@Kentora 3d printer?
ReplyDeleteman... These are so crazy... Talk about excessive Tallent IMO...
ReplyDeleteI was expecting filly vinyl scratch esque spin but this is just as good.
ReplyDeleteWait...they both say Pose 1
ReplyDeleteMore to come?
Oh lord, their manes and tails, THEY GLOW!

Oooooh, so very very pretty. I love'em. I didn't think about it until someone above mentioned it. But yeah. Put these into a 3D printer and bam! Awesome pony figures. :D
ReplyDeleteWIND WAKER PONIES! DO WANT!
ReplyDeleteamazing
ReplyDelete@colt classic
ReplyDeleteThis is the gist of what a 3D printer does.

Awesome! That's amazing work.
ReplyDeleteThese look way better than the Mane 6 models he did a few weeks back. These are just stunning.
ReplyDeleteAlso plot tag why?
Just a heads up, the princesses are headed to Gmod courtesy of oogaboogaman once again. So expect to see them again.
ReplyDelete@Suroguner
ReplyDeleteYES!!!
These are absolutely marvelous!
ReplyDeleteUrge to buy wider screen... rising...
ReplyDelete@Kentora wow, now i see why you want one so badly, i'm sure the prints would come out nicely but those things have got to be pricey.
ReplyDeleteLooked up the stereo Luna one:

Had a:
OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH
Moment.
@Altherix
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to do that. No luck.
Excuse me, I had to lift my lower jaw off the floor.
ReplyDeleteThis crap truly is amazing. I wish I had that kind of artistic talent. 0:
quite nice. Plot. XD lol.
ReplyDeleteBtw, forgive me ignorance but what's a 3d printer?
@Eytan
ReplyDeleteI pity the bland, pitiful life devoid of fun people like you live in.
@Narwhals' Bend Be careful when you get there.
ReplyDeleteLike the 3D posters, when you get it to work, it's awesome.
You do it too long your eyes start to hurt and you feel cross-eyed for awhile.
These are incredibly well done... the MLP style, being intentionally 'flat', makes it very difficult to picture, let along render them in 3D... I've always considered Celestia's (and Pinkie's) mane to be the most difficult ones to do, but she captured both perfectly...
ReplyDelete@Altherix
ReplyDeleteI got it after 40 minutes of seemingly random eye movements! I stared at 3D Luna for four whole glorious minutes until my computer went to screensaver.
@Lotharius
ReplyDeleteRight, because one's life is devoid of fun if they don't enjoy staring at cartoon characters Ass's
oooooh, pretty!
ReplyDeleteLUUUUUUUUUUNAAAAAAAAA~~~
ReplyDeleteOH. MY. GOSH.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing... and that Luna is so freaking cute! I mean, grrr, bacon, guns, football...
I feel that this person does these too quickly.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel inferior, as I am unable to make any art quickly, nor in rapid succession without lacking severely in quality. It would probably take me 2 months of planning and cooperative work to do something of this caliber.
Some day I'll do something important. Some day.
@IkusaGT
ReplyDeleteBecause "plot" and "plotting" have specific meanings in 2D and 3D modelling which (oddly enough) don't have to do with ass. It has to do with coordinate and path definition.
@ActionScripter9109
ReplyDeleteWhy do I keep seeing these types of comments relative to mlp? Is it a new meme or something, or just a joke about denial of liking something pony related in order to salvage 'manliness?' It was funny at first, but that was back when I, myself, couldn't believe I was starting to enjoy mlp.
But I find these awesome AND cute. Im usually not much of a fan for Celestia, but this one I like.
Y'know, as a 3D animator who has been using the 3D pony models in Source Filmmaker and Maya, I've been toying with the idea of using these models to make a full animation of the first episode, but I scrapped the idea because there was no Celestia model ready.
ReplyDeleteWell, would ya look at that? Now we just need some clever person to rig it for Maya and I suppose I have no excuse to NOT make it...
Oh man... Celly's hair is going to be a BITCH to ragdoll in Garry's mod. XD
ReplyDeleteMan, these are really well done models. I would be the animators at the Hub would appreciate them if they ever saw them :O

ReplyDeleteI kept looking at her(both) for minutes now!
ReplyDelete*staring* *burst out rainbows* squeeee!
@ZavCoyote
ReplyDeleteWait, Zav, do you mean an animation of the ENTIRE first episode? You'd need some other models for that. In fact, if memory serves, Celestia never directly appears in the first episode except in the book...
I simply cannot understand how is it even possible that Hasbro, a huge international company with immense resources and experience on the field of toy production and marketing is still using those weird vectors in their advertisements, still unable to create G4 show-accurate toys/models whereas "simple" (i.e. not payed, not/semi professional) fans are pulling out stuff like this from under their sleeves.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it took me 10 minutes to write this coz I have spent 9 minutes searching for my jaws which I have dropped.
Why not they make these out of a toy! people would love it! lol
ReplyDeleteAmazing. OK, bronies with 3D printers, you know what you have to do.
ReplyDeleteMy goddesses, these are absolutely magnificent!
