Daniel Ingram recently confirmed the song count for season two on his facebook page.... kind of. We have a vague estimate at least. That's still a ton of new stuff to remix the hell out of though! I can't wait!
I used to dislike the music portions of Disney movies. They always felt "forced". The characters would be having a normal conversation one minute, and break out in song the next.
FiM on the other hand does it the right way. Every single song feels like it perfectly fits the scene it takes place in, and they are all beyond catchy. The crew behind this show never ceases to amaze me.
And as a bonus, here are the statistics from our facebook page likefest!

Awesome hope they are good as "Winter Wrap Up" and "At the Gala"
ReplyDeleteMore songs HO!!!
ReplyDeleteIts more like Pinkie Pie Forces the songs onto you...
ReplyDeleteI mean, its pinkie pie for goodness sake
WE NEED THE ALBUM!!
ReplyDeleteOMG THIS INFORMATION IS SO SPECIFIC
ReplyDeletePotentially 19 songs for us all to Share and Care about...
ReplyDeleteYay more music!!

Winter Wrap-Up, while an awesome song, came completely out of left field, and was far more jarring and awkward than any Disney number.
So, anywhere from 11 to 19 new songs? Cool. (Is it bad that I want a heavy metal version of the theme song?)
ReplyDeleteYesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my lawd that is awesome, so many songs! granted there are probably a bunch of little Pinkie songs that make up a good portion of it, I can't wait to see what he has in store for us on the level of Winter Wrap Up.
I hope most of those songs are short ones of 30s or less. I love the longer ones as much as anyone else but any more than five or so in the season is too much imo.
ReplyDeleteFiM is probably the best show I've seen at songs- they're set up perfectly and the songs themselves are great- I find myself humming a tune from them on a daily basis.
Would a good comparison to the likefest be swarms of locusts? Because just look at those numbers.
ReplyDeleteHoly Moley! That's a lot of songs!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good amount, I think. Part of what makes the songs so good is not knowing when to expect them.
ReplyDeleteHoly Moley! That's a lot of likes!
ReplyDeleteKnowing one of them is a solo for Twilight makes me 120 % more excited! /)^3^(\
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Friendship is Magic wiki, there were 18 songs in the first season (16 if you don't count the theme song or the Junior Speedsters Chant). Since season 2 seems to be about the same length as season 1, It looks like we might have the same amount of songs as last time.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThat'll almost certainly be the case, I reckon. 10+ elaborate musical numbers of the WWU type? I'd bet my right eyelid that that'd break schedules big time. Majority will be of the hop/skip/jump & cupcakes variety, I imagine.
Nothing wrong with that, of course. The shorties are fun, and the big numbers should be rare so as to be, well... Special.
I need mlp music! It makes my face happy!!
ReplyDeleteI used to hate the music parts of Disney movies too as a kid, but I learned to like them as an adult.
ReplyDeleteThe FiM songs have been great for season 1 and remind me heavily of Disney songs. I wouldn't like there to be too many for season 2 acctually, but if they're all as good or better than the ones from season 1 I won't complain.
So... 15?
ReplyDeleteYes more songs! Winter Wrap Up was my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHope we get an Applejack/Rainbow dash duet :0
ReplyDeleteYes I went there and I'm not coming back

The songs in FiM were introduced gradually, through Pinkie Pie. Since she's such a CloudCuckoolander, it was only natural for her to start spontaneously singing whenever she felt like it. Her already-established eccentricities made it easier to accept.
ReplyDeleteA few episodes into the series, once we've accepted the "Pinkie Song" as a concept, they suddenly spring "Winter Wrap-Up" on us, a full-fledged Broadway Musical number that's well-written, well-performed, and well-executed, establishing a new standard for songs on the show. But since we've already gotten used to songs, it's just "More of the same, with a bit of Extra to it."
By "Greatest Night Ever", not only do we accept that Ponies perform spontaneous musical numbers, we've come to expect them.
And even then, what makes those musical numbers good and memorable is, with a few exceptions, they are used to establish character elements or story elements. Even "Winter Wrap Up" is used to both give the Wrap-Up InfoDrop in a manner that's entertaining, and to establish the plot point of Twilight not knowing how she fits in beyond being "the Magic-User."
Well, now he knows who loves him!
ReplyDeleteI would like them to keep it at one song every other episode or so. That ratio feels just right to me. I can't watch Jem to save the life of me. Every episode has at least three songs.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! All this season two news! AAA!
ReplyDeletecant wait for season 2, must pony

ReplyDeleteI c wat u did ther LOL
Whoa, wait, what? You don't like Disney songs? But Disney movies are the ones that gave us awesome stuff like Mulan's "Be a Man".
ReplyDelete200k visits.
ReplyDelete"Excuse me sir, but I believe the internet is here."
The full on production numbers (Art of the Dress, CMC, At the Gala, Winter Wrap Up, You Gotta Care) were some of the best parts of the show.
ReplyDeleteHopefully there's as many musical numbers in season 2. There's a fine balance and I think they reached it perfectly.
I just want a Rainbow Dash/Applejack solo song. Like Rarity's Art of the Dress.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess that the majority of them are in the style of "cupcakes" and "so many wonders". With probably around only 2-5 of them actually being in the style of "winter wrap up" "stitching it together" and "at the gala".
ReplyDeleteYep, I cannot wait for the new songs. As I figure it, all the mane cast besides Pinkie and Rarity need solo songs (I'm not really counting So Many Wonders). Especially Rainbow Dash.
ReplyDeleteThis is great news. :D
I counted. There were approximately 16-18 songs from S1. Thats including the theme, and splitting "Evil Enchantress" and "Art of the Dress" into two songs each. So for S2 I think were looking at around 14-17 songs or so.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's closer to 10 than to 20. It's difficult to convert people with song-heavy episodes.
ReplyDeleteConsidering what we've had in series 1, I won't say mid-10s would be that far fetched. Series 1 had like, what, 11 songs.

ReplyDeleteAnd the CMC Song no less
Hmm technically if I remember right Luna will be featured in an episode so there could be a permissibility fora song for her too :o
ReplyDeleteNot to mention Flutter which will get awesomely remixed!
Season 1 has 17 songs, excluding the intro theme. I read somewhere, weeks ago, that season 2 would have 15 (or 16, I don't remember exactly).
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm gonna go ahead and pretend it's just eleven songs, so that when there are a couple more I'll be like "What a pleasant surprise!"
ReplyDeleteSounds like possibly more than the first series.
ReplyDeleteSounds good.
I never liked Disney songs either. Mostly, they are all about emphasizing the emotions of the characters and bring the action of the story to a screeching halt. They feel forced because they aren't an integrated part of the story.
ReplyDeleteDaniel uses his songs as exposition, character development... heck, in Episode 2, he even uses one as a WEAPON!
He's a buckin' genius.
You people know that most of the songs will probably be 30 second Pinkie Pie songs, and not "At the Gala", "Art of the Dress", and "Winter Wrap Up"...
ReplyDeleteI just Realized that regardless of how long or short the song is, It's still awesome.
I demand at least one song each of the Mane 6, I love Pinkie but honestly there are other Ponies that could sing.
Now now, lets not fly off the handle. He said 10-20, and when we get at least 15 new songs at the most would be good enough. Lets not build it up to a disappointment when we don't get 19.
ReplyDeleteHopefully we get at least three major songs like the first season.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget "Twilight is My Bestest Friend" and we'll probably look forward to more sly inclusions of the theme song. We also already know that Twilight gets a solo.
ReplyDeleteI hope there's a Rainbow Dash/Scootaloo duet.
ReplyDeleteIt went from 1000 views to over 200000? That's freaking crazy. Go bronies.
ReplyDeleteI'd hope for 3-4 full-length songs and around 10 short songs. That'd give us a song in half the episodes, assuming one song per episode. I feel like that's a good number.
ReplyDeleteDon't like Disney songs? Shang would like a word with you.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSS5dEeMX64
But anyway always room for more Pony songs! :D
Hopefully we will get at least 1 rock and roll song, with a sweet guitar solo.
ReplyDeleteDo song also include things like background music or all vocal?
ReplyDeleteI don't think I understand those numbers. How did it get 200k views and 30k comments in a week with only 12k unique users over the whole month.
ReplyDeleteIf we round and say 10k were that week, that means an average of 3 posts per user and 20 views?
I just hope that Sweetie Belle gets another song.
ReplyDeletemore than 10, less than 20? really? Daniel trolls us again
ReplyDeleteLooks like Daniel is also watching Brony musical stuff on Youtube and making them shit bricks with his praise. I do hope he still has enough time to make awesome music alongside being generally awesome.
ReplyDelete@Stargazer
ReplyDeleteWell, he said "songs" so the implication is that it is vocal.
Oh god, I can't wait. Songs from cartoons have never appealed to me until I watched Friendship is Magic.
ReplyDelete...I don't even know which one's my favourite, they're all that good!
Rainbow Dash had better get at least one solo song, or else I'm going to pout. >:(
ReplyDeletePlenty of material for Ponybeat.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this idea!
That likefest was The Best Night ever! Love you Bronies! <3
ReplyDelete27,000+ comments in like six hours? Dios mio. Daniel Ingram's email account must be wrecked.
ReplyDeletegreat...more songs...just what I wanted...
ReplyDeleteIf Pinkie Pie does a cover of Bron-Y-Aur Stomp in season 2, I will die. Led Zeppelin really found love and friendship forty years before it existed. They were just giving us clues.
ReplyDeleteYup, more fun and catchy songs to play with. I'm sure everyone will be having a good time remixing them all. And singing them at more Brony Meets together and such. :)
ReplyDeleteThe stats from Dan's FB page amuses me greatly.
>Anywhere from 10-20 songs in Season 2
ReplyDelete>SPB Vol.2 Already has 2 songs
BRING IT ON. I AM A PILLAR OF, uh, BEING ABLE TO PULL THIS OFF WITHOUT GOING BAT-NUTS CRAZY!
"They always felt 'forced'. The characters would be having a normal conversation one minute, and break out in song the next."
ReplyDeleteThat's how musicals work, man. Its like complaining about the suddenness of fights in kung fu flicks, or teh sex in a porno.
If you told me a year ago I'd be thoroughly entertained by cartoon ponies singing about making dresses, I'd have backed away slowly and looked for a large, blunt object with which to defend myself.
ReplyDeleteFetch me my calculator, I have fancy mathematics to figure out.
ReplyDeleteI'll be happy with a Luna solo.
ReplyDeleteThoe I'm personaly hoping for both Luna and Twilight to get solo's=]
And @QuietDesperation
I have to second that.
Also I read about a month or so ago that there were going to be 15 songs in S02 in one of Seths posts?
Although I do agree with the disney comment, Disney have gotten better. The best and probably only example would have to be Tangled.
ReplyDeleteEither way... SQUEE!
My favorite part is the pilot when Pinkie starts singing and the entire cast is like, "Wut. Is she really singing?"
ReplyDeleteThat random singing was played for laughs though. X3
There are going to be so many remixes when season two is over. My mp3 player might explode from pony overload!
ReplyDeleteDaniel is a cool person ^^
ReplyDelete"I used to dislike the music portions of Disney movies. They always felt "forced". The characters would be having a normal conversation one minute, and break out in song the next."
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly why I hated Disney movies as a kid (still do). In fact, I really hate musicals in general. Breaking out in (crappy) songs for everything is just "blech." No offense, but I irk at some of the songs in this show. All of it is /much/ better than Disney movie songs, though.
Still, I'm just not a fan of musicals though some I've seen lately show that they can have music with my taste.
@MyCutieMarkisaGUN

ReplyDeleteThe thing is that Disney movies were never suppose to be seen as musicals but treated as such. In fact I believe those that work at Disney found it to be an insult to call a Disney movie a musical.
