Fresh off of last night's release of a previously unreleased season one song, CrayolaBrony writes in to show us his Season One Chordbook for guitarists. It's... well, it's huge. If I knew how to play anything but a plastic Rock Band guitar I would totally bust out some chords and sing badly for about an hour before realizing how silly I looked and putting on some metal to compensate. But secretly I'd feel pretty good about it.
Did I do a link? I forget. I'll do it again. Chordbook is here.

ReplyDeleteWow this is incredible. Any way to download it?
ReplyDeleteIm a violinist
ReplyDeleteWTF man.
Where be my sheet music?
Well, *now* I regret now taking guitar lessons from my dad. It's a shame since he wanted me to play guitar so bad. Too bad I was more interested in drawing, sewing, crocheting, etc. :P
ReplyDeleteBesides, my fingers would cramp up trying to play certain notes. This is really awesome, though! Kudos to CrayolaBrony :)
@Anon
ReplyDeleteIf you're first, then you'd best be ready to learn ALL of these songs! ;P
But yeah, this book was a long time in the making. We currently don't have all the word-for-word chords yet for the new version of Hop/Skip/Jump song, but we're working on that.
We're also open for other revisions as need be, though we'll be taking them with closer scrutiny than we did with the songbook. ALL revisions will post to the exact same links, so no need to worry about finding new ones.
Our next projects, we hope, will be the S1 Tab Book (for advanced guitar bronies) and the S1 Choral Book, with S-A-T-B harmonic arrangements, for advanced singalong-ers and choirs. At this time, we have no release dates planned for these, but it would be nice to get them out before S2 starts. Vee shall see, mmhm, yes...
Anyways, strum, pick, learn, and enjoy!

ReplyDeleteYes, I have a download link available for you:

As I said earlier, we haven't got the chords done for the new song yet, so all you'll have there is the lyrics. Check back in a couple days and they should be there!
I PLAY CHELLO, WHY IS THE ORCHESTRA BRONIES NOT THOUGHT OF
ReplyDeleteYou can play chords on piano, too!
ReplyDeleteBut for some reason people act like it's some sort of black magic that's impossible!
10th
ReplyDeleteSecond in binary :).
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteTHATS WHAT I SAID!
WHERE THE SHEET MUSIC AT?!
@Anonymous No you don't
ReplyDelete(you play the cello)
There's this wonderful thing called "learning a song by ear."
ReplyDeleteLearn it love it use it
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYeah, since you can't spell "cello" correctly, I'm guessing you don't really play it.
If you're really a musician, you can wait until the SATB version comes out and arrange it for string quartet.
Sheet music WILL be included in the choral book. However, we currently have no plans for instruments other than the guitar. It would be TOO MUCH work for me AND my team to try and approach an entire score book or something like that.
ReplyDeleteSo yes, apologies to the bronies who play other instruments out there, but we simply do not have the resources (time, larger team, etc) to take on something that big.
Fuck yes.
ReplyDeleteSomething else pony to eat any free time I though I'd ever have again
This looks awesome, unfortunately I can't play anything except a tiny bit of piano, lol
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! :D
ReplyDeleteThis is gonna be awesome! xD
is it in standard tuning?
ReplyDeleteThis will be useful...
ReplyDeleteEeyup. I can safely say that some of those chords are wrong. I know this being a musician myself.
ReplyDelete@Sweetonionct
ReplyDeleteWhat you do in situations like these is actually post the corrections so the changes can be made.
Or you can sit back and troll. Whichevs.
@ mushl3t
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, yes, it is in standard tuning. Unless otherwise noted on certain songs, of course (using Capo, Barre chords, etc).
actually, I found out that the best way to play "She's an evil enchantress" is to use a digitech whammy to raise the octave at certain points in the song.
ReplyDeleteAwesome I've ben trying to find these on ultimate guitar :3
ReplyDeleteTimes like this, I'm glad I've self-taught myself to play guitar
ReplyDeleteFluttershy is on the EQD logo. Daw, so CUTE!!!
ReplyDeleteno bass? D:
ReplyDeleteY U NO Make tabs?
ReplyDelete@Toty
ReplyDeleteCrayCray answered you already here.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteUh...? Chords are chords no matter what instrument you play them on.
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"no bass? D: "
Well mate, you got the key of the song and its chords. Shouldn't be too hard to improvise something (root note, 3rds, 5ths and so on...)
This is the only reason I will start playing guitar again.....
ReplyDelete@Anon
ReplyDeleteI play bass and I find these to be perfectly readable.
@CrayolaBrony
ReplyDeleteThanks!
These chords are very wrong... I'm playing them and they do NOT match up at ALL.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if they're in a different place than what I'm used to knowing for those chords or what, but these can't be right.
This is amazing. I gotta drag my guitar out of the closet now.
ReplyDeletebrb
ReplyDeletelearning how to play guitar
@Krass McWriter
ReplyDeleteAnd i'm ma keyboardist. Brohug
Looks like I know what i'm going to be doing a bit now.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing!
Cool project, but how about some love for us pianist ponies?
ReplyDeleteNot a guitar player, but I was planning on arranging some of these tunes.
ReplyDeleteFor "Evil Enchantress" I was going to use i-VI-ii-V until the turnaround. That's functional, yeah?
Us cellists and violinists need loves too. lol But this is a nifty little thing.
ReplyDeleteA few of the songs have wrong chords in lots of places.
ReplyDeleteBut otherwise, very good work. :)
As a bassist who wants to cover MLP-FIM S1, I salute the effort. I'll give more comments after I try the chord charts for sure, but heck, with enough effort the songs could be tabbed out quickly.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or are these not correct? I was just trying to play along to some of the songs but it didn't sound right to me.
ReplyDeleteOMGOSH OMGOSH OMGOSH OMGOSH OMGOSH!!!!
ReplyDeleteTo CrayolaBrony: Thank You! This will be helpful in my attempts to do rock/metal version of the songs. Now to write out the melodies by ear and/or wait for your transcriptions :p I look forward to the tab book!

ReplyDeleteIt's not just me behind this, you also have the FiMUSIC project team, everyponysings.com, and the community who contributed to that site to thank.
I love this fandom. <3
Winter Wrap up has some very serious chord issues.... nearly every one of the Fm chords should be a Db. It's just in first inversion is all. This is a tricky song though, and this transcription serves as a good basis for a more accurate go at it. Art of the dress never shifts chords in the verse pattern even though it is plainly audible!!! Ugh. Come on, people!
ReplyDelete@Poco
ReplyDeleteuhh, this is just a chord sheet. You can play chords on piano too....just hit more than one key at once. This can be played on any ponyphonic instrument and all the melodies in FiM are so simple to figure out too.
"Twilight is my bestest friend" was completely wrong.
ReplyDelete@Error-posters
ReplyDeleteIf it's all or partially wrong, PLEASE be more specific in your revision suggestions, if you actually posted them (some of you didn't). I can't read your minds, and I actually don't know music on paper that well myself. I'm just an organizer/compiler/project manager. I have a team of bronies working on this project, and we are all open to fixing errors to make a better product... but if we don't get any fixes, NONE will be made...
So yeah, send the fixes to everyponysings@gmail.com. Everyponysings.com is the site where the chords come from, which in turn gets its chords from bronies themselves. YOU have the power to change this product to make it better, so go for it!
