Spoilered Synopsis: Discord escapes from his stone prison and Twilight and her friends act quickly to find the Elements of Harmony to stop him.

VastaKustutaPersonally, I'm guessing that this Discord fellow, or one of his lackeys, will have stolen or hidden the Elements of Harmony beforehand, prompting the need for the mane 6 to search for them before they can put a stop to this new threat.
I don't have any idea how season 2 will play out, except that I will be ecstatic about everything.

VastaKustutaMy guess for why they need to find the Elements of Harmony again: They lost them. During the party, with Luna back from the moon and eternal night banished, they got put somewhere, and quickly forgotten during the festivities. Cue some poor pony, stuck on clean up duty of possible the biggest party in Ponyville EVER just trying to get the mess cleaned up. He's been up for a LONG time now, what with the party the night before at the library, then the Summer Sun Celebration stuff, and then the Welcome Back Luna party... yeah, he's barely awake, and just scoops up those fancy pieces of jewelry with all the rest of the trash, and takes it to the Everfree Forest Landfill. We'll get to watch as Twilight Sparkle and the Elements of Harmony search through a massive dump in the hopes they can find Equestria's salvation!

VastaKustutaI believe that Discord is just their (the crew's) interpretation of Nyx (Nix? I'm never quite sure) name changed so as to make things interesting. Then, directly after breaking out, he has ransacked the royal Vault (where the elements are no doubt held) and spread them to the ends of Equestria, the first (my vote is for a two-parter) half would be leading to the quest to find them, and then finding one or two.
VastaKustutaThe Mane 6 then find all but the Element of Magic, which Discord has kept for himself. Epic batlle ensues, Twilight gets her Tiara/Element and uses the magic to subdue. Celestia pops out of nowhere and says "Good Job, now go back to ponyville"

The storyboard artist who confirmed Dischord's existence over in the other article said that she was under the impression that they were making the last episode of the season, but instead the Hub is going to show it first, start things off with a bang.
So, at the end of the episode he'll probably be defeated pretty definitively, though he may show up again if the show gets a third season.
I think I'll just step into my handy-dandy cryochamber for a few weeks...

So they're aware that they hold the elements, assuming the writers are smart enough to NOT retcon it. Twilight and her friends are already, well, FRIENDS who are connected by their cohesion, so now it's a matter of utilizing what they already have and what they know rather than discovering it for the first time (as they did in the pilot for the first season).
It could range from anything to rediscovering the physical properties of the elements that had since been lost due to their dormancy...
Or, if the elements are only a once-in-a-millennium deal (when the time would be most dire), then the last bearers of the elements must use their willpower and exercise their abilities and trust in each other to the fullest in order to regenerate them. Someone elsewhere theorized that Discord has the power to disrupt (or corrupt) the elements and their bearers, as well, so that's a consideration.
Even if nothing is definite, speculation is fun.
I cannot even form sentences at this point. I'm just the Scootaloo well is then the of best time pony 2 happy for yay wait season love happy happy.

This could be neat, as we'd get an adventure story without having to take time to introduce the cast, I just hope they make it different enough from "Mare in the Moon" that it feels original. As for the elements, I seriously questioned this at first, "Don't they already have them?", but then again, magic probably isn't as user friendly as human weapons (it's not like they got a manual last time), so there's the potential for a lot of buildup before we see another pony get crushed by a rainbow tornado of harmony.

My first initial reaction was to not get worked up. But that was probably 15 minutes ago - I seriously cannot wipe the grin off my face and I cannot stop speculating about how AWESOME this show could possibly be.
VastaKustutaI'm at least satisfied this will be a 2-parter. They can write a lot more plot and action in 44 minutes than they can 22. I'm hoping for 2 things - 1) That if they're going to make this over-arching, they give Discord a lot of characterization and and an interesting personality, or 2) That if they're going to have slice-of-life episodes, they keep them as fresh and interesting as they were in Season 1.
I cannot stop nodding my head and smiling at a lot of these speculations. I love the idea of Discord being the ultimate evil that had corrupted Princess Luna and made her into Nightmare Moon. The sheer concept of "Multiple Elements of Harmony" versus the "Sole Element of Discord" just makes me SQUEE thinking about. It's such an awesome concept, and I really hope these writers pulled off the character well. I assume they have, because they're great like that.
All I'm gonna say now is that we better see some kick-flank action, and I will be one of the many bronies flocking to the synchtubes watching the episodes with others. Just the idea of all this had made my night, and I will go to my first day or school tomorrow with a wicked grin on my face.

I hope discord is only in the first two parter, and not in many episodes throughout the series. i like the slice of life style, not to say i wouldnt mind a few two partes throughout the season, just not with the same recuring villian. I'm a little nervous cause this discord guy seems like the kind of character you could easily mess up writing for and end up making an awful character.
VastaKustutaI'm curious. What was a big part of me liking the first two episodes was being introduced to the ponies for the first time. If it's similar to the first episode without the introductions I can only hope that the extra 30 minutes from the unnecessary introductions can make the plot less "straight to DVD old school cheesy movie" and a little more awesome (*do not insert 20% cooler joke here*)

Although I'm pretty sure at this point, ponies have become so insurmountably popular and proven to be awesome that to most of us, it'll be like call of duty. We could find out it's bad or they could tell us what complete garbage it is and we could all agree, but more than half of us would watch it anyway.
I am NOT saying the first episode will be bad, just saying that most of us would probably watch anyway even if it was.
So this explains why in the comercial Celestia had the game face when opening the door in the Castle of the Two Sisters with the 4 of 6 mane cast in the back ground! Does that mean the other 2 are with Luna. My heart rate and adrenilian just kicked into overdrive. I haven't been this exicited since the NHL playoffs!

All we need for Discord to be awesome is for him to have a COMPLETELY screwed-up mind. Murderous. Insane. Think the Joker from, uhh, The Dark Knight. As in, he is the very definition of evil. He'll do HORRIBLE things to the citizens if they don't meet his demands...such as locking them inside a cell and BURNING THEM ALIVE, SLOWLY, AND THEY CAN'T GET OUT. Or maybe he'll do something similar to the two cruiser ships with bombs, one full of citizens, the other full of prisoners, and they are each given the detonator for the OTHER boat. If they don't press it by uhh midnight, he blows them both up and kills them all.

VastaKustutaIn canon, they are the BEST REPRESENTATION of the Elements at least, the show does not explicitly state that the Elements of Harmony (those orbs that were shattered into pieces, and then reformed into badass amulets), are embedded into each pony.
This can mean many things:
1. The Mane 6, while being the first choice by Celestia for saving Equestria via utilising the Elements of Harmony, are not the ONLY choice for saving the kingdom through the Elements. Another group of ponies who display the same friendship among each other, as well as the Elements, can too use the Elements. However, they may not represent the Elements as strongly as the Mane 6 in order to wield them at full power.
2. The Mane 6 were actually destined to only use the Elements ONCE, and they were all found together in one place to see to it that the entire group use them simultaneously. And after that, the amulets each disappeared from each pony. This time, they have to find the physical Elements in order to use them again, and they each could be anywhere in Equestria.
3. The amulets are the physical Elements, and were kept safe in Canterlot in Celestia's royal vault. Discord, or some equally dangerous villain, breached the defenses and stole the amulets, either to prevent the Mane 6 from ending the evil plans in a single blast of rainbow goodness, or to use the Elements for their own devious purposes (like a BIG FUCKING GUN to blow up the Moon with, destroying the tidal system and weather system, and to piss off Luna [those monsters, they wanna make Luna cry!]).
Discord escapes his stone prison... I'm blaming Snips and Snails on this one.
VastaKustutaOn a more serious note opening with a two-parts could lead to either the elements not being strong enough, Discord gathering them first, or hostage taking of one or both Princesses. If anything that they are starting off similar to season one is a good sign. Throw in some D&D creatures and one Pinkie Pie song and we will be good to go for another awesome season.
Discord messes the Elements of Harmony to forget who they are (Discord/Harmony Eh?). It doesn't really change Twilight's mental state because her power was magic, so she runs around Ponyville and finds the rest of the Mane Six behaving like the opposite of their elements. She and Spike convince them to... be themselves again, then everyone confronts Discord and they sit together politely and resolve their conflict through reasoned discussion.
