1. Once again, Reel Big Fish proves itself to work really well for PMVs. 2. Good video, but Dash>Sasuke. Just saying. 3. I thought it waINTERNAL SERVER ERROR.
@Anonymous That's just it. They thrive on Internet, and now there's none left for the rest of us. It's the end of human race and the beginning of the era of ponies!
lol at people clearly not getting what The Kids Don't Like It is about...
Song has "kids" in title?
SONG IS ABOUT KIDS.
*makes video with kids in it*
But seriously, I think that the video should have, if anything, featured the adult ponies talking about their own cutie marks. Would have been much more fitting, rather than a PMV for the sake of a PMV.
I saw "The Foals Don't Like It" when I loaded EqD, and before I even scrolled down, I ska-fanboy squeed a bit. There are just not enough ponified ska PMVs out there. C'mon editing skilled bronies! It's just such a freakin' happy-go-lucky genre! Just like the ponies! And Pinkie Pie loves the brass!!!
What the heck do YOU think it's about??? It seems obvious to me that it is about KIDS (teens, preteens) who don't like music that isn't popular, even if it kicks major ass.
Worthy of note is that this was released years before hipsters who don't like something BECAUSE it's popular came onto the music scene in full force...the late 90s were very dominated by pop and rip-off, corporate punk/rock.
First video was well done. Liked the song too. CMC works for that song. :P
Second one wasn't really my thing and the video was kinda eh. Then again, I'm not a Naruto fan either. But I'm sorry about the guy who made it having a heart attack though. Ouch.
It is "about" kids, but it is told entirely from the perspective of the adults producing the music that is not considered cool. That PMV seems to suggest that the kids alone are involved.
I mean, imagine it. When everybody but Rainbow Dash tells the stories of how they get their cutie marks, Scootaloo just goes "ew gay" and keeps looking for her idol, the "cool" one.
That is EXACTLY what the song is about, in a sense. That would have made a GREAT PMV if more scenes from that were used, and if it were implied that the mares were singing instead of the fillies.
Okay, I can see the concept you describe working better with the song, but as of now, PMV makers only have one season of material to work with. I tried to think of scenes that would convey the meaning you clarified more appropriately, but I couldn't. I think the song was well portrayed for the material available.
Anyway, it's always refreshing for me to see ska get more exposure in this new decade. Maybe there will be more opportunities for exact song meaning translations once season 2 comes around, but for now, I found this PMV to be quite well done.
Hello, I'm the maker of The Kids Don't Like It PMV. First off, thank you all for the feedback.
To the anonymous poster above, yeah, I know the song is about the band trying to fit it with the music scene but is unable to because the kids don't like their music. Yes, what you described would have fit with the song better going by it's original message. But, like the other anonymous poster said, the amount of footage to work with to make an entire PMV out of it it really quite limiting.
So instead I went by where the song discusses trying to find their place, doing something new, and failing and applied it to the CMC since they are constantly trying to do the same thing. Only instead of trying to find their place in the music industry, they're trying to find their cutie marks.
I had to take liberties with "the kids don't like it" chorus part and try to make it seem like the CMC don't like their constant failures in finding their special talent.
Maybe when season two rolls around and there's more footage to work with I can redo this PMV to make it more about it's original meaning but for now I'm pretty happy with how mine turned out. :)

#1 Is well done
ReplyDelete#3 is pretty funny
...Sasuke doesn't match Rainbow Dash in any context whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteEh, whatever.
Wow! Really liked the first one. The song was a good fit, it was very well timed, and it made great use of the CMCs' limited screen time. <3
ReplyDeleteSo if Rainbow Dash is Sasuke and Applejack is Naruto... Narusasu? Of course.
ReplyDelete3 made me smile

Nicely edited #2, but WHY did you have to use THE WORST Naruto opening ever?! Other two are also good.
