• Official Animator Artwork

William Bradford, one of the animators for FiM, runs a small sketch blog.  It's a pretty basic entry, but still neat to read through it and check out the different animation stages.

One of his quotes says it best:
"I don't think i've ever been on a flash show that allowed us to push the expressions and posing for maximum appeal: Most of the credit being owed to Lauren Faust's permission, All the former Ed Edd n Eddy storyboard artists, and the fantastic character and set builders."
This defenitely shows.  I think the facial expressions in this show are some of the greatest I have ever seen in animation, and the big draw for me personally.  Everything from the deadpan Twilight Sparkle expressions to Pinkie Pie's off the wall shapes that she pulls off...it's just so well done.

You can find the blog here!

    5. That shows he enjoys working for this show, such amounts of dedication for one's work is always good. Cheers.

    6. I remember Ed, Edd 'n Eddy. Good old show. Watched it all the time. I have a professional animation friend or two and it's always fun to watch the magic of animation play out.

      VastaKustuta
    7. Ed, Edd 'n Eddy was my favorite show as a kid. :)

      VastaKustuta
    8. I remember my parents trying to ban me from watching Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy.

I'm so glad my mom said, "Fuck it!" one day and allowed me to watch it two episodes into the first season.

    9. For all the arguing about how 'good' that episode was, those pictures sure bring back the fact that 'Feeling Pinkie Keen' had some truly epic moments in it. (The faces of Twilight and Pinkie Pie in the bottom picture of the animator's blog are awesome. Pinkie is so %$@* proud of herself!)

      VastaKustuta
    10. Pinkie Keen wasn't my favorite episode, but it did have the most epic SQUEE moment in the show! Hell the most amazing squee and Rapidash within 2 minutes... Just epic.

      VastaKustuta
    11. IT all make sense now!

      VastaKustuta
    12. Despite everyone turning "Pinkie Keen" into a debate over whether or not FiM was talking about religion, I still say the moral of the story was that sometimes you just need to roll with the madness. (especially when said madness leads to the contents of a moving truck falling on your head)

I think the official moral is something different, but that's what I got out of it.

    13. Ahhh, "Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy" - that's where some of the people (storyboard artists) went after the show was finished. That show was fun to watch, those expressions of the characters reactions!

It's good to see their work being shown somewhere else where their talent is shown. Keep it up MLP:FiM team!

    14. Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy, you say? :O I loved that show when I was little :D I love how a ton of people who worked on shows I used to enjoy as a small child also work on FiM. EPIC.

      VastaKustuta
    15. Ed, Edd, and Eddy is all over this show

      Soarin is Ed
Trixie is Kevin AND the red haired Kanker sister
      Multiple storyboard artist and animators.

    16. "All the former Ed Edd n Eddy storyboard artists"

Wow, I didn't think mlp could get any cooler.

Fuck man, I loved that show.

      VastaKustuta
    17. I love how he mentioned the Ed, Edd n Eddy artists like they're mostly the reason Fim is doing so well. Not that I am complaining, cause it was the shit.

      VastaKustuta
    18. the coolness we all saw in the show is now being brought out in definition for others to learn about. When I finally get around to writing the article that I want to I'll certainly include this :)
When I was able to watch it, this show basically defined my childhood.

      VastaKustuta
    19. at least, a couple of elements of it.

      VastaKustuta
    20. Awesome awesome awesome. So cool to see some new stuff before it's released and/or leaked somewhere else. Thanks for the tip!~

      VastaKustuta
    21. Amazing blog, I LOVED Ed, Edd n Eddy when I was younger, I would watch it with my brother all the time. That would explain the accurate face expressions.

      VastaKustuta
    22. you can definitely tell the EEnE influence. That was an awesome and surprisingly mature show, and it's pretty cool that FiM has turned out the same way.

      VastaKustuta
    23. Ed, Edd n' Eddy was awesometastic, but only thing I didn't like in it was the fuzzy animation style... Fuck it >>> IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME <<< and i couldn't have ever thought that fim was connected to EEnE

      VastaKustuta
    24. Ed, Edd and Eddy?

All of a sudden, it all makes sense...

      VastaKustuta
    25. Doesn't surprise me about Ed, Edd and Eddy. I mean the VA for TRIXIE and Hoops is the same VA that for Marie Kanker and KEVIN.

    26. ZOMG some of the Ed Edd'n Eddy staff are working on this?!?
      I LOVED THAT SHOW.
No wonder the characters are so expressive.

      VastaKustuta
    27. I didn't think it was eve possible, but this show just got 20% cooler again; that on top of all the other "20% cooler" it already has.

      VastaKustuta
    28. ORLY? Ed Edd n' Eddy Storyboarders?

      That show was hilarious.

      VastaKustuta
    29. Inb4 guest appearance by plank?

      VastaKustuta
    30. It's kinda funny how the people that make up a really great show, more than likely were part of other shows you loved as well. I remember laughing my ass off to some ed edd and eddy back in the day.

      VastaKustuta
    31. Am I the only one who didn't like Ed Edd n' Eddy?

      VastaKustuta
    32. It all makes sense now. There's a dream team working on FiM. As more and more staff pop up my confidence that season 2 will be fantastic raises exponentially.

      VastaKustuta
    33. @Anonymous

I wasn't too big on it. It had a few decent eps, but it wasnt anywhere near being a favourite of mine.

      VastaKustuta
    34. Yeah, that particular episode has some of my favorite facial expressions in the entire season.

This William Bradford fellow just plain rocks.

      VastaKustuta
    35. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-w5vRy0mINSY/TjPm_VekZJI/AAAAAAAABtE/CpBC4f7UUc4/s1600/MLP_Pposes.jpg

      That one is the best.

      VastaKustuta
    36. The Ed Edd and Eddy folks are doing the story boards....Oh my god I FINALLY realize why this show seemed kinda familiar to me at times. EEnE was and still is one of my all time favorite cartoons.

These facial expressions reminded me so much of what I used to see in EEnE and now I know why! Feeling Pinkie Keen will ALWAYS be on of my favorite episodes, and this just bumped it up closer to the top!

      VastaKustuta
    37. @Bitmun

Yeah, looking back at the episode it looks like that little sequence was cut short. Which is a shame because it would've been hilarious if it were used.

It should be at the 10min45sec mark in the show if you're curious.

      VastaKustuta
    38. I was always amazed by the amount detail in the expressions, which was kind of what got me hooked into the show in the first place. A quick look around the internet and the amount of people that use them as avatar pictures tells me I'm not the only one impressed by them.

      VastaKustuta
    39. How is it MLP continues to hop, skip and jump higher and higher in the levels of appeal it delivers?
Fuckin Ed, Edd, and Eddy animators work there? jesus. I just love that show, and now they continue to be incredible, years later. I hope MLP has a longer lifespan tho...

      VastaKustuta
    40. Nice to see the art, but it's too bad it's from the one MLP:FiM ep I'll probably never watch again: Feeling Pinkie Keen. That Looney Tunes slapstick is best left with the Loonies. I winced every time Twilight got bashed, and for what? Questioning superstition? Oh, right, bash the unbeliever! Death to infidels! I mean COME ON. I hate that ep.

      VastaKustuta
    41. It all makes sense, Ed Edd and Eddy, my most favorite show to ever exist.
      No wonder.
And remember how many episodes EEnE had?
      A lot, correct?
      No seriously, I forgot :l

      VastaKustuta
    42. I KNEW IT! (Points to whoever just read that in Pinkie's voice.)

Although, I must say, I'm not actually surprised by this revelation. James Wooton (sp?) is a name that I've seen in the production credits of both MLP and EEnE. I also think he does the voice of the mule in Applebuck Season, if I recall correctly.

      VastaKustuta
    43. Ya gotta understand that the North American traditional animation community has always been relatively small--so it's a lot of the same people who make everything.

The sad part is even the directors of popular animation blockbusters are still pretty unknown to the general public.
The fun side of it is you can meet your heroes!!

      VastaKustuta
    44. people from Ed Edd and Eddy were in on this?!?!?
that was my favourite show before it ended!
I went to Spain once and they were playing an episode in Spanish on TV
I dubbed over it from memory
      good times :')

      VastaKustuta
    45. And then Fluttershy explodes twice as spike jumps on her.

      VastaKustuta
    46. Jesus christ, jump to conclusions will ya seth.

He said that they can work on facial expressions, doesnt mean that they are 'pushing the limits'. The facial expressions are unique but the aren't 'tell-all' like you claim. Its simply stupid how you bronies will believe everything associated woth this show is 'the best' just because you are a brony. Theres love, then there is just blind obediance, you are all the latter, keep embarrassing yourselves guys.

      VastaKustuta
    47. @Adrienne

Friendship is Magic is Canadian you fool, which is why its good. american animation and story planning would be too weak to garnar any sort of fanbase. Gosh you yankees are so self-absorbed huh

      VastaKustuta
    48. The term "North America" includes Canada and even Mexico you ignoramus. You're the one who's self-absorbed.

      VastaKustuta
    49. Ed, Edd 'n Eddy?! One of my top fav series?! Working on MLP?!

I need to take a cold shower to see if I am dreaming. I culd never have seen this comming.

I may only have seen the Swedish dub of EEnE but still, it was AWESOME!

I remember when Sweden got the movie only some years back. It was the best thing I have ever seen.
