ReplyDeleteParty ideas? Oh wow. Hmm. I'll just toss a couple of ideas out there; I'm the wrong gender and age to have any idea about what would be great or just dumb, but hopefully one of these will work, or maybe inspire something else.
- Cutie mark party hats. Just as the ponies all had ones with their marks on them for Pinkie Pie's party, have the kids make and decorate ones for themselves.
- Some sort of pony themed game perhaps, with a prize for the winner? Maybe a 'Find the Parasprites' game, whoever finds the most wins, or a pony themed scavenger hunt?

ReplyDeletePony-themed decorations and games, huh? Well, you absolutely must have pony-themed treats of course. At least a pony cake. I believe I saw some FiM decorations too, think they were for Birthdays. But I can't remember where I saw them now. Some store along the lines of the dollar stores or such I think. you could make your own, but lots of work. Or buy the FiM balloons, and print out pictures of the ponies to put around and on things. As for games, hmm. Musical chairs to FiM songs? lol Not the best field for me I'm afraid.

About the party ideas...It can take some work but maybe drawings of ponies celebrating? Big 'Happy Birthday' banner with Luna and Celestia on both edges? Pony music is a must aswell :D Maybe some pony quiz? Hanging cutie marks, you know...like butterfly, gem, apple etc. (no, this is not cupcake fanfic). It's hard to come up with something if we don't know her preferences. Nevertheless I hope I helped at least a bit :)

ReplyDeleteDressing up as ponies MAY seem a tad out of reach, but you could try Rarity's Dressup.
Singing and dancing like Pinkie Pie will be great too.
Storytime with Twilight is also an option (although relatively boring to some).
Making pony cookies is a great idea too, simply make the dough and cut in their shapes... Than use icings to color the manes and such. Rarity is an easy example, with the violet mane and white coat.

ReplyDeleteAnother party idea would be, if you've a few computers and the kids are old enough ya think to handle it well, maybe set up Generalzoi's pony creator on them so they can make their own ponies. Print 'em out or somethin' maybe.

Party ideas, party ideas...hmm...
ReplyDeleteWhat if you gave them a blank template of a pony body outline, and had them draw in the mane and tail? Create your own pony! Get some glitter crayons, they'll love those.
Cookie and cupcake decorating is always fun.
Find some neat old clothes (check your closets or even a thrift store) and have Rarity's Dress-up Boutique?
If the weather's nice, get some sidewalk chalk and turn 'em loose in your driveway (if you have one).
I suppose it depends on the actual age group, too. But when I was a little filly (and the sun was going doww-own...*cough*) I usually enjoyed things that bolstered my creativity and gave me some freedom.
I bet Granny Smith is the one who kicks Discord's ass.

Party idea:
ReplyDeleteOn the Hasbro site ( http://www.hasbro.com/ ) there's a sweet Find The Differences game. There are 20 images with 5 differences each. The best would be to sit all the party goers in a semi-circle on the floor in front of a screen on a table or desk. The music and the animations when you make a choice are very nice. This activity will take at least 30 minutes, even with a half dozen eagle-eyes telling you where to click. An alternative would be to screen-cap all twenty images and print them out (in color!), but the images do not enlarge well.

East coast pony checking in:
ReplyDeletethings aren't too bad, was just a class 1 hurricane; some downed branches and power out in places. Mine is still up and running, didnt even flicker. LAST years hurricane and tornados were MUCH worse, (8 days no power ) so yeah, we got off pretty easy this time. Don't go worrying about us!

ReplyDeleteUpdate from MA, only had a minor power surge so far (only my PC shut down on me lol). The stream behind my apartment is starting to overflow but I'm elevated so no worries there. Other than that, it's not bad at all. Rain will come down in SHEETS for like 15 mins then nothing for 15 mins. Been like that all day.

ReplyDeleteDash's rainbow rally!
set-up is easy, get some ribbon (in rainbow colours) then criss-cross them along a path. you can use everything from chairs to climbing frames to hold your ribbons up! ( a loop of tape will let you use a wall) (masking tape along the ground lets you mark out a zig-zag path)
How to play:
somepony gets blindfolded and its up to everypony else to help them get through and retrieve the sweets without touching the rainbows.
when a child makes it through they get to give everypony (including themselves) a sweet (I recommend one penny sweets - no idea what the're called in the US)
group size: 10 - 4
everypony gets to go through, and its up to all the others to get them through
group size: 20 - 11
Pair up, one pony goes through the rally while the other has to guide them to the finish - cheering is encouraged from the others (after all their sweets are on the line!)
group size: 30 - 21
one pony goes through then you get two guide ponies
but I have an odd number of ponies! simply add them to existing pairs - resist the temptation to play yourself!
(any remaining ribbon can be used for streamers!)

I recently threw a pony birthday party for my friend and I gathered up some rocks, a little bag of flour, some lint, and a bowl of radishes. I then made little party hats for them and placed them around the table. I also put lots of coloring sheets around the room.

Haven't been out to survey the damage yet, but no downed trees/branches/lines that you can see from my house.

WARNING: MESSY! - flour gets EVERYWHERE!
Oh no! somepony has forgotten to make the cupcakes! well there's nothing for it, its not a party without the cupcakes; everypony is just gonna have to pitch in!
Set-up:
Place a collection of cupcake ingredients at one end of the garden - paper plates with a small amount of flour/sugar. (try and put out as many as possible the more times each pony gets to go round the better)
at the other end of the garden place a table with a mixing bowl, you will need a minimum of two adults one at each end to give and receive (what's left of) the ingredients!
How to play:
the idea is to carry the plates of flour from one end to the other - (going under a ribbon and turning around in a circle make great obstacles), before handing them off to the adult chef pony!
everypony should go at once, if there is not enough room send them down in groups of about 5, its chaos and silliness your looking for!
sounds too easy? well silly filly, ponies don't have hands! so all your budding little helpers are gonna have to balance the paper plates on their heads if they want any cupcakes!
Remember to encourage them to keep going, even if there is nothing left on the plate at the end!
if they are being "overly sensible" feel free to yell they only have "3 minutes left!"
Flour and sugar are used because it is no problem for your fillies clothes and hair - most of it will be gone by the time they go home!
but, wherever they go that afternoon there will be a trail of flour! its polite to give the guests parents a heads up, as they may want to bring something to cover their car seat with!

ReplyDeleteStorm seems to have cleared up (for now?). Saw a squirrel hop out of a tree and I realized... that squirrel was in the tree for the whole storm, wind, rain, and all.
I suddenly have more respect for woodland critters. *flutteryay*

I was just in that hurricane. Just some heavy wind and occasional falling branches up here in Mass. It did knock out my power, though. But only for a few hours.

ReplyDeleteAs for party ideas (hopefully this isn't too late):
-Cutie-Mark shirts/bandanas/paintings (sponge painting would work well for a lot of ages, or older kids could just use acrylics/fabric paint and stencils)
-See if there's a local baker for the cake, try it yourself, or get a generic "hillside" background from the local supermarket bakery and add the smallest figures (blind bags if they have them in your area or just the standard ones, those things are tiny compared to previous generations)
-Dress Up/Fashion Show (hang up the Rarity Logo, play the fashion show song, etc)
-Unicorn Tag (blunted horn (think paper towel tube) to tag each other, or just pony tag with grabbing tails out of pockets/waistband (like flag football))
-Make/decorate cupcakes as part of the party instead of a cake (or in addition to a small cake)
-Don't know how old the kids are, but if they can write, you could have them do scrolls like in the show with a nice message to the birthday girl and put them in a scrapbook with the mane cast picture in the front (like in the opening). Could do the cover like the book in the first episode (even though that's technically a different book)
-Pinkie Pie charades/Simon Says (could use some voice clip of her as stop/go, or video clips for the kids to mimic for simon says (hoping/twitching/gasping/etc) (easy to queue up on a laptop hooked to a tv or just the laptop, or you could just call it Pinkie Pie, lol c: )
-Horseshoes (they make cheap sets, or I'm sure somewhere like Family Fun has make your own substitues)
ReplyDelete-Three Legged Race/Sack Race/etc (sort of like the episode where Rainbow Dash has to race without her wings)
-"Spa" (painting nails etc) - Rarity takes the other ponies to the spa once or twice
-Cutie Mark Crusaders Chicken Hunt (hide a stuffed chicken somewhere and they have to find it, possibly using clues depending on age)
-If the other guests are familiar with the show/ponies, you could put a pony on each player's forehead and have them guess each other
