And the first update here.
The pre-reader running the event has more copy paste too, have that below!
Fillies and gentlecolts, as I write this, my Internet is still out where I live due to the damage from Irene coming through on Sunday. This won't stop me, however.
At the current time, it's 1:25 p.m., August 31st on the east coast. For the Aussie and Asian participants, it's already September 1st. My friends, those participants and those wondering just what will result from this insanity, when you hit midnight local time on the 1st, you are free to write your hearts out.
Good luck to everypony and happy writing!

ReplyDelete*Insert Freddy Mercury pose*
I wish I was a better writer.
ReplyDeleteBut good to know more Fics will be coming!
I am so excited foir this event! Are you excited, because I'm excited! I've never been this excited except for that one time when I saw Twilight SParkle walking into town and I was all *GASP* but I mean, REALLY, who could top that?
ReplyDeleteI was going to do this...then I started my fic already :(
ReplyDeleteI love how you used my two favorite ponies as the page image.
ReplyDeleteOnly a few more hours before I can start! I already came up with more ides for what I'm going to put in it...I just hope everyone here likes it.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about writing something but I only just now heard of this. Do I have to have emailed the guy to participate? Or can I just start writing and submit it at the end?
ReplyDeleteExcitement wells in my heart.
ReplyDeleteOnly until tomorrow can I start.
I've had the idea to write a fic or two for a while now, so I'll see if I whip out something for this.
ReplyDeleteI already write slow enough as it is, and I need to get finished with my revision of Rarity's Tale.
ReplyDeleteInb4 The cable company whining because they thought you wannnnnted whinnnnning!
ReplyDeleteLet the writing commence!
my friend told me to write something but I got no idea...hmm, think! think!
ReplyDeleteAlright! Time to start my Nyx slice-of-life fic!
ReplyDeleteHope everyone knows this about this contest/knock-off:
ReplyDeleteIt isn't about quality. That's the insane, fun point. Just do it. Get to 50k words. You'll be glad you did and we'll all have a laugh about it.
NaPoWriMo! Whooo!
ReplyDeleteDo we need to tell you what we're writing about, or do we just need to submit before Oct 1?
ReplyDelete@Tleilaxu Ghola As long as it's pony themed, then you don't even need to tell yourself what you're writing about! ^^
ReplyDeleteSweet, maybe I'll actually write a fic worthy of publishing now...
ReplyDeleteto hit the 50k cap you need to write about 1666 words per day! go go go!
ReplyDeleteAlright, you mules, listen up. I need novels. Novels about ponies. 50k words.
ReplyDeleteThis insanity starts in 30 minutes for me. We're not getting a whole lot of direction here, so I figure I'll just submit the whole thing to EqD when I'm done with it.
It'll be even more fun when I try to do it again NEXT month for NaNoWriMo.
God help my insane soul.
Too bad I'll be out of town for the last 2 days, that means that to get 50k words I would need 1785.7 per day. And that 7/10ths of a word is going to really bug me at the end of each day.
ReplyDeleteHere's a way to look at it:
ReplyDeleteIf you can type 30 words per minute (easy) you can type 1800 words in an hour.
Maybe you can do it into 15 minute splits. Type, go do something else. Get inspired, type for 30 minutes. Come back before bed, knock out 45 minutes of writing. I'm guessing inspiration is the toughest part.
It's not hard. Tt just requires a bit of dedication to the cause, and not too many days of saying "I'll type more tomorrow." It's a really a 40 hours project, if you think about it. 30 hours of actual typing, 10 hours of thinking "What the hell did I do here?"
@Coodles Like Seth says in the "first update" (linked above) he plans to "list everypony that's participated, their story titles and word count, and a link to their work for everypony to appreciate"
ReplyDeleteSo that's pretty much a "yes" to your question ^^
Out of curiosity, shouldn't this be called International Pony Writing Month, if there are participants from multiple countries, as is implied by the opening post?
ReplyDelete@Jorlem
ReplyDeleteTechnically, yes it should be to be all-inclusive, but it's more just going along with NaNoWriMo, which for whatever reason hasn't chosen to change the name.
I might enter this, as I have an idea but I'm not completely sure on if it's decent. 50,000 words isn't that much over a month, though. We shall see...
ReplyDeleteAlright, about 2 hours in and I've gotten through the first chapter, clocking in at about 2,150 words! Now I think it's time for some sleep, I've got classes tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteOne hour to go before i start. Im feeling really excited and inspired right now. Although i know that's probably going to change once I get about five sentences in and then completely lose inspiration....
ReplyDeleteOh god. MY head. IT's working and words and a plot is coming out and EVERYTHING. OH GOD WHAT DO I DO GUYS?! THE WORDS KEEP FILLING UP MY PAPER.
ReplyDeleteSo I'll give this a go. I probably won't make 50k words but it'll be an excellent warmup for November. This month is going to be an absolute disaster regardless, might as well plan something fun in it.
ReplyDeleteSo this is just an excuse to encourage writers to write?
ReplyDeleteSounds fun!
Damn, I type fast! Now I've just got to decide if these 4000 words are worth what I think they are...
ReplyDelete@Pony In Chief
ReplyDeleteNo! Don't Question those 4000 words EVER! Every single one of them is worth it.
@AndrewDon't listen to him! Those words are meaningless! QUESTION THEM. QUESTION THEM I SAY.
ReplyDeleteWow, this landed on an almost perfect time for me. I've wanted to do a fic, and was gearing up and ready to start today. Probably won't hit 50,000 words but whatever.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to write for this and yay for AppleSpark pic!
ReplyDeleteWELL. I'm still going to try this, even if I never did get advice on how to cast it. I would still like some though if anyone has thoughts.

You could reply here I guess or over on the RD forum or @ olafpicknpepper.deviantart.com
Alrighty! Home from work, finished my other story yesterday, so I have a clean slate in front of me.
ReplyDeleteTime to make my pre-reader scream at me for being crazy! Woohoo! (Sorry Heatwave!)
Can anypony think of a pony equivalent to Christmas? My idea currently is the Mane 6 saving Christmas somehow, Celestia will probably end up as an expy for Santa.
ReplyDeleteLooks like I can't manage this. I've got a freakin' obligation to finish a Halloween fic before Sept. 21st and I've already been putting it off for two months because I'd rather write ponies instead. AGH!
ReplyDeleteIt's weird, I don't even want to sleep. I want to keep writing about ponies. Anypony need more coffee? I just made a third pot! ^^
ReplyDeleteOh boy! This is gonna be so fun! I highly doubt that I'll make 50k words, but I don't mind.
ReplyDelete@Vanner
ReplyDeleteHow is everything working? Is there a place to post links to, or a NaPoWriMo site, or are we joining the NaNoWriMo site.
@Artrageous
ReplyDeleteAs far as I understand, it's up to us to keep track of our word count on our own, and just email the chapters at the end of the month. The first post (which is linked in this post) has the email address and most of the info.
This isn't anything all that official, and more just a fun little project for those wanting to participate.
If you have Word, it will count your words for you. :)
ReplyDeleteFeel free to drop by the MLP Lexicon to brainstorm, hammer out plot points, or just sound off about your ideas, we have a brainstorming board and a general fanfic board.
@Artrageous
ReplyDeleteI think we do need a bit more officialness to the whole thing, really.
What I'd reall like to see is a thread on Ponychan or one of the other forums for us to congregate and report our progress.
Otherwise, who knows how many people are actually participating?
@ladymoondancer
ReplyDeleteI just took you up on that suggestion, and posted the intro to my fic on the boards:
http://mlplexicon.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=mlpff&action=display&thread=903
Good luck to those participating! I won't be partaking in this competition, but I will be keeping up with my own writings.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Nice, I was just thinking of starting my first MLP fanfic! Not sure if I'll actually submit it for this event (think I'd rather take my time with it and submit normally), but hey, this is still motivating me nevertheless!
ReplyDeleteI did mention this event to one of my friends (not a brony himself, good-naturedly teases me about it), and I told him I was considering entering. He had this to say:
"maybe hasbro will like your fanfic so much that they turn it into an actual episode, and maybe you'll get to meet twilight fluttershy and maybe, maybe you can get her autograph and wouldn't that be so cool?"
...I kinda would like to get Twilight Fluttershy's autograph ( ._.)
That would be cool if she were real.
ReplyDeleteYou could always get Tara Strong's autograph.
That's still pretty good.
You know what? I just might try my hooves at this. I most likely won't get to the 50k mark, but at least I'll finally start a MLP fan-fic!
ReplyDeleteSo I just got past 8000 words, and a guy at met over at BronyState's chat is helping proofread my first chapter. How's everyone else doing?
ReplyDeleteI only have 3,000, so i'm probably gonna hit 20k in the end. Fast reader, lazy writer.
