At 8:00 EST Celestia Radio will be hosting "The Marshmallow", an R-rated pony show. If you can't tune in tonight, it looks like it's a weekly thing on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Well, if it's R-Rated just for the sake of being R-Rated, that could be tastelessly pointless. But, if it's R-Rated for the sake of tackling pony issues that PG-Rated is afraid of tackling, that's a bit more worthwhile.
"to provide us with a more adult-oriented talk show where he will chat it up on IRC, read some clop fic, and other such things that younger bronies may want to avoid listening in on"
Well its official. they'll be reading clop fics. fucking assholes
"From now on, Prison will appear during the evenings and/or late at night (scheduling TBA) to provide us with a more adult-oriented talk show where he will chat it up on IRC, read some clop fic, and other such things that younger bronies may want to avoid listening in on lest their parent sover hear and send them to the moon for one thousand years.
We hope to bring this new programme to fruit within the next few days, so stay tuned!"
Great. your pretty much making clopfics and the like an official part of the community. Shame on you sethisto. This is fucking up to the extreme. fucking everyone over.
Relax folks, I'm guessing the whole clopfic thing will more for the lulz than anything else. If anything I'm hoping it'll be like Transmission Awesome.
Karai here from Celestia Radio. I wrote up the blog post you are all quoting before I had any idea what Prison planned. He said R rated, so I threw a few examples of what R rated material could entail.
The show will evolve over time as we work on a few technical issues. Don't let my post turn you away from what may just end up being one of the most entertaining shows this side of Equestria! c:
Might i remind everypony that reading clopfics are only after Prison comes on... and even then he doesnt always do that.
As for before, we have DJShamrock who is 200% cooler. We have our little fun times including: SWAGging, his singing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MyOA62ZP5s) and even the occasional reading of Cupcakes.
If you are going to jump to conclusions, you will miss out the fun that awaits you there.
Promoting 18+ material on our prominent fan-sites can very possibly have an ill affect on the community, especially if curious outsiders find such materials and come to very misleading conclusions. I have seen people voicing their concerns about this many times by now and I can agree with them from that angle.
On the other hand, I think it's a necessary process. We, as a fandom have to draw our own lines and deal with inside trends. This however, will not work by people arguing, swearing and calling names.
The fandom is still young. We have to see these things, go through with them and see what happens.
Let's take this show as an example. We will assume there's a clopfic live reading happening. What can happen? 1) Fans will react by abandoning the site, the radio, voicing their disgust. 2) Fans will actually support such shows. (I think we can ignore the "indifferent" option here).
What I mean is, this has to come. The fandom, as a collective will either embrace or exile such trends, and depending on the results, fans might leave (and come) but it doesn't happen by arguing. Arguing over these things presumes we have authority, as if we could word a written legal document forbidding said behaviour.
I'm pretty open-minded in these things. After all, it was my open-mindedness that introduced me to ponies. I will try to listen to the show and see how I like it. It can turn out to be very rule34ish to a disgusting level, but can end up being funny and entertaining aswell. Gotta hear it first to decide.
If anything, please try to avoid the emotional outbursts regarding this. Take a deep breath, see what happens, and pick your side / word your opinion after, in a civilized manner. Believe it or not, those who read clopfics are reasonable people aswell, and are by no way to be treated inferior.
@Ewyndall As for my previous post, it is only in case if there's a serious clopfic reading. If it's only for the lulz and done in a stylish manner, then stop taking it too seriously and have a laugh ^-^
@filleg If you are in Sweden then we are in the same timezone, GMT+1. EST is GMT-5.
So, that means 6 hours difference.
If the show starts at 8:00 am, it should be 14:00 here. Though I don't see a am/pm tag in the news, and 8:00am sounds rather early to me for a geeky fandom we are, so if it's 8:00 pm, then it will be 2:00 am here.
**Prison Mostly rambles and says hilarious stuff**
Meh, mostly he just rambles.
Seth, I'm beginning to think that all you think about are the pageviews, and so you boost every damn pony thing that's out there. Not terribly classy, are you?
Seth is doing his job well. This is related to the fandom, and many might be interested.
It's possible he himself is not fine with the content of the news, but as the runner of the biggest newshub of the community he is responsible enough to not make wanton selections on personal preferences. That would be like as if the Guardian or the New York Times wouldn't report on the happenings in Iraq coz they are against the idea of USA military presence in the Middle-East (just an example, don't derail).
Seth drew the line at open rule34, and there's a seperate site for clopfics aswell. Everything else is fine imho and only shows he is good in running the site responsibly. (even if he is being insane at some points)
I love celestia radio but why do they need to be R rated? I don't listen to them for disgusting clopfics or disturbing grimdark readings or goddamn talk shows. I remember when they played pony music and that was that. Just play the damn music and stop trying to be attention horses.
And Seth please stop accepting saucy and/or unsavory things from everyone who sends them in. This website is the main base for us bronies and we cannot make it look like clop fics/gore fics (different from grimdark) are normal.
Hey guys, DJShamrock here from Celestia Radio. For those of you who dislike this type of programming, you are still welcome to come here me Monday through Friday from 10AM to 4PM Central Standard Time. My program is a little more light-hearted and the only thing that could be considered above PG-13 is the fact that sometimes there is profanity, but not that often (just a drop here or there). So feel free to tune in because I'm sure there's something for everypony to enjoy. ^.^
I had to reload the flash player link a few times for it to actually kick in and there was some choppyness at points. His voice is good and has a lot of potential, and he seems good enough at reading fics. He was kinda awkward at first when just talking randomly between the reading and music, but he seems to be getting into a better flow of things now.
If this is his first attempt at doing this sort of thing not bad for sure. He'll definitely keep getting better the more he does it. Lol, I would suggest cutting back on the all the belching going forward.
Now, I didn't see this post on EqD before 8:00pm on their clock. I was just listening to Celestia Radio because I was cheerfully enjoying background pony themed music for my evening. But what's this? An entertaining pseudo-chocolate voice asks if anyone could here him, was this thing on? "Brilliant!" says I, "I get to listen to a live radio broadcast from the very beginning for once. At this point I got distracted by someone entering my room and I pulled my earphones out, excusing myself from his description of what the following broadcast would be about, which I assumed quite logically to be ponies. With the end of the song he claims he has a fanfic to read! I sat through it, I probably never would have read Rocket To Insanity on my own, so I guess something of value was gained.

Hello! This is Karai from Celestia Radio again! I'm noticing a lot of mixed feelings and opinions about tonight's episode of The Marshmallow.
For those of you who took it for what it was and enjoyed themselves, I am glad you had fun! For those who were deeply disappointed in the programme, please remember that our talk radio is a very new thing that we are experimenting with and content might change as we find the right balance between PG-13 and R.
Keep tuning in and please email your suggestions to us at info@ponify.me so we can get a better understanding of what everypony wants!
And be sure to tune in to DJ Shamrock's live DJing tomorrow at 10am CST! He will be talking requests and chatting it up with everypony for a good long while!
We have some ideas we are working with to bring you guys even more entertainment, so stay tuned!
Hey, I'm glad to hear you will still be tuned into Celestia Radio. I understand there are some major differences in taste and opinion. One of the reasons Prison is doing this is because I won't, and there are people who want it.
Although it isn't my cup of tea, I wouldn't want to cut out any part of our listening audience just because of something I didn't want to do. I'm happy there are people who can enjoy Prison, or myself. And sometimes, even both.
I can assure you our programs are quite different, and if anyone has something they feel they're missing (or don't like) from Prison's show, I should be able to satiate. At least, that is my goal.
Please tune in between 10AM and 1PM CST to listen in on my live DJing tomorrow, or from 10AM to 4PM CST any other day of the week. I hope you can enjoy!
I don't know if you know this, but I do not own the station. Either way, I do not get to say what does or does not get aired. All I have control over is what -I- do. And I think I've made myself clear about that.

ReplyDeleteOh noes. This was my first "first" but I did not claim it. ^^ Btw... When's that thing in Sweden? :O (GMT +1)
ReplyDeleteWOOT Celestia Radio rocks! ^^ Sham will like this a lot! Thanks Seth
ReplyDeleteprison = god
ReplyDeletejust sayin
Depends on what The Marshmallow's about...
ReplyDeleteAnypony care to fill me in?
Hmm. Don't know if want. Might be interesting.
ReplyDeleteWell, if it's R-Rated just for the sake of being R-Rated, that could be tastelessly pointless. But, if it's R-Rated for the sake of tackling pony issues that PG-Rated is afraid of tackling, that's a bit more worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteMarshmellow = the raping of your view on the world and non-stop laughter. Mostly cuz of how abnoctious Prison is... he is god i agree.
ReplyDelete@Winged Justice
ReplyDeleteDoing it for the lolz is good, too.
Hmmm... I guess I'll listen to it on Pony Fortress 2's server later on...
ReplyDeleteR-rated? what does that mean? cursing? or something worse?
ReplyDelete@Geldon Yetichsky
ReplyDeleteYeah it is.

Welp, definitely gonna miss that one.
I might tune into this.. depends on if I'm being crazy later in the day.

ReplyDeleteBoth.
I'm not sure if it's going to evolve at all, but at the moment it seems to be "whatever you could consider R-rated for the sake of being R-rated".
Which means clopfic readings and grimdark readings at the behest of the audience currently.
Not sure how that's going to evolve at all though, I don't really think that's going to keep the interest of people.
Sethisto, how can you advertise a show that reads clopics? I am dissapointed
ReplyDeleteI'll check it out, despite the clop fics might be interesting.
ReplyDelete@filleg
ReplyDeleteI use this when in doubt:
http://www.timezonecheck.com/
Great. your pretty much making clopfics and the like an official part of the community. Shame on you sethisto. This is fucking up to the extreme. fucking everyone over.
ReplyDeleteE'yup definitely not listening to the clop fic reading... honestly what the hell is up with that?
ReplyDeleteNot listening, no clop fics for me thanks.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see the part about the clop fic readings. Not my thing, so I think I'll try and miss that part, but see what the rest is about.
ReplyDeleteLet them have their clopfics, just don't advertise it to the whole community. It makes it seem as if that's the norm for everyone here.
ReplyDeleteRelax folks, I'm guessing the whole clopfic thing will more for the lulz than anything else. If anything I'm hoping it'll be like Transmission Awesome.
ReplyDeleteClopfics? Definitely going to give this a pass. Those stories are awkward enough without having someone read them to you.

ReplyDeleteClopfics are more X-rated than R, being written porn and all.
You shouldn't have not mentioned clopfics if it's not a definite thing. It's a hot button issue and bronies are divided on it.

I can't hear anything, I can't find the marshmallow, I have no idea what is going on, and I am missing it!
ReplyDeleteWhy!?
Anypony catch the DJ's skype handle?
ReplyDeleteDid anypony hear the name of the rap they were playing right before the show started? The DJ's voice was so broken up I couldn't hear it announced.

@Icehawk
ReplyDeleteThank you :D
omg that was a big waste of time, it was sooo juvenile.
ReplyDeletePretty lame show guys.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice, he skipped most of the clopfics.
ReplyDeleteThe chat took over and the show devolved into meme spamming from both the chat and host in less than half an hour. Weak.
ReplyDeleteNow, I didn't see this post on EqD before 8:00pm on their clock. I was just listening to Celestia Radio because I was cheerfully enjoying background pony themed music for my evening.
ReplyDeleteBut what's this? An entertaining pseudo-chocolate voice asks if anyone could here him, was this thing on?
"Brilliant!" says I, "I get to listen to a live radio broadcast from the very beginning for once. Should be interesting."

(7 Minutes Later)
"Oh dear," says I, "That isn't what I was expecting to hear AT ALL. I really have no choice but to go rewatch "Winter Wrap Up" to remind myself that this is an INNOCENT CARTOON FOR CHILDREN, PURGE ME, PURGE ME OF THE IMAGES CONJURED BY THAT ACCURSED PSEUDO-CHOCOLATE VOICE AND SPARE ME THE DAY WHEN THEY RESURFACE, REBORN TO MAKE ME PARANOID THAT SOMEONE MAY SEE WHAT I'M THINKING AND LOOK UPON ME IN DISGUST THAT SUCH A THOUGHT COULD SEED & SPROUT ITSELF IN MY MIND. ReplyDeleteWhat a giant pile of shit.
ReplyDeleteI found it to be a mix of funny and disturbing, I'll probably tune in again.

Best kind to bring for reading are reasonably short grimdark or clopfics that are adequately zany through the sheer off-the-wall nature of them.
@AnonymousYou can learn how to write! It's pretty easy:
ReplyDelete- Use a capital letter (or "upper case") for the first letter of the first word of every sentence.
- Take a breath every once in a while. As in, use commas when appropriate.
- End your sentences with a period/full stop (the "." character).
- Use upper case for the word "I".
- Avoid using emoticons as punctuation.
- Indicate possession with an apostrophe ("Prison's").
- Watch out for typos! It can be tough to spot them all, but that's what Chrome's and Firefox's spellchecker are for.
- Use an online dictionary for when you are unsure how to spell a word. I recommend http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page
or
http://dictionary.reference.com/
- Good luck!

ReplyDeleteI really enjoy Celestia Radio when I get a chance to listen. So I thought I'd give Prison's show a try.
Uh... no. Just, no. I don't mind "adult" entertainment/discussions but this was juvenile in the extreme, disgusting and, worst of all, boring.
I'm not going to boycott CR or anything, I'll just avoid anything Prison is hosting. I still like the other programming. Keep up the good work.

ReplyDelete@KmScMTnot really, as the one I heard he he skimmed it and totally killed the surprisingly detailed and romantic mood set for the story.
