Hlissner over on Deviant Art has created this amazing looking map for one of his future fanfics. It's obviously making a lot of random assumptions, but the map itself is really impressive.
Apparently this is just draft number 5. It's still currently in progress. If you would like to follow it, check out the DA page here!

awesome
ReplyDeleteOh my jeez that is mighty impressive. This map actually has me very excited for the fanfic he's writing, looks like it's gonna be an epic to end all epics.
ReplyDeleteOh, nice! I detect some Jetfire influence in this map!
ReplyDeleteI like it!
Where's Manehatten?
ReplyDeleteIt's a neat concept, at first I was like... why is he listing a ton of places that haven't been mentioned in the show though yet lol.
ReplyDeleteThen I realized he was basing it off a fanfic...
@wackyteen
ReplyDeleteBy the Lake west of Ponyville
Whether it's making assumptions or not, it's a very beautiful map. Looks like it's pulled right out of Equestria Geographic or something.
ReplyDeleteAlso, much props to Hlissner for all the mentions of other races. Really fires up the imagination.
Very awsome map, a shame we will likely never see anything official like this though...
ReplyDeleteGermaney.
ReplyDeleteLol.
Really nice map.
I wish it would be canon ;)
In the words of Rainbow Dash herself: SO AWESOME!!!!!
ReplyDelete@Basharoonskis What fanfic? You got me interested.
ReplyDeleteI've never read a fanfic before, but looking at this map it's hard not to take this one seriously. I'll definitely be keeping a close watch on this.
ReplyDelete@Freekles1245
ReplyDeleteIt's dangerous business, leaving your door, by Jetfire
Think this'll definitely be a fanfic to keep an eye on.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful map.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but think that Manehattan should be an island, though.
I know it isn't official, but I'm calling this the Official Ponyworld map, Maybe it will be Truely offical in the future.
ReplyDeleteIs it okay that I'm more excited for the map than for the fic? Cause it really almost made me drool there.
ReplyDeletePretty nice map! Imma assume that "The lost world" includes dinosaurs or a heck of a load of dragons.
ReplyDeleteHmm, makes me wonder what the Ibex Empire is
ReplyDeleteYes, you referenced "Dangerous Business"! I think it's pretty much become canon at this point, thanks to that weird comic.
ReplyDeleteAlso, did you include some of the settings in "Off the Edge of the Map"? I can't remember the names, but the geography kind of seems similar.
Anyway, this map is awesome.
I think I like this so much because it reminds me of the maps from Terry Brooks' Shannara series.
ReplyDelete@SharkWipf
ReplyDeleteUm, this is for a new fan fic and a completely different author. It's called "Where the World Ends". "It's dangerous business, leaving your door" has been written/finished for awhile now.
So, is it set in the same fanfic universe as Dangerous Business? Or were those landmarks put in just as tribute?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, it's well made. I just made it my desktop wallpaper. Doesn't really fit, but it's still nice to look at. I also lol'd at Derbyshire, because it hasn't actually changed to accommodate a pun, but also because I spent my univeristy time there so I'm actually familiar with the place.
@Vyuun
ReplyDeleteyes, but the places in the map are taken from Dangerous Business. Gildsedale, Shimmerwood, Archback Mountains, etc.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of these places are from Fallout: Equestria
ReplyDeleteThe mapmaker asked Kkat about it it page 14 for the comments on his story.
There are also places from other fanfics - I recognise Stalliongrad, but I'm sure there are others.
Amazing job!
Indeed, there seem to be places from other fanfics as well...
ReplyDeleteThis keeps getting better and better! Amazing job!
Gorgonzola! The Cheese? The Monster? Both?!
ReplyDelete@SharkWipf
ReplyDeleteAh, right. I think he wanted to know what fan fic the map is going to be used for though. *shrug*
Anyway, awesome map!
This makes my attempt at geography in my fic look like a 2-year old's random rambling, amazing work.
ReplyDeleteCool! Now I want to draw stuff and be all artisticy.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm impressed with the map itself as far as maps go, everything in Equestria itself seems extremely innacurate to me.(Obviously the rest of the map is whatever he wants it to be)
ReplyDeleteFor example, I'm about 76% sure that Canterlot is mostly east (very slightly to the south) of Ponyville, and that the Everfree Forest stretches around from the south end of Ponyville to the south west.
A minor nitpick, but why is Whitetail wood so far from Ponyville?
Like I said, map is beautiful, and the fic seems like it'll be a good one, but those location details in Ponyville irk me.
Oh dear.
ReplyDeleteThe map I've been using internally for Stargate Equestria looks nothing like this. This is good enough to become accepted fanon, and now my own fic is going to be totally off-kilter. Noooo :(
LOVE the Dangerous Business references!
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty sweet. I can't wait to read what he writes with it. I like how he incorporates stuff from "Dangerous Business", since it's one of my favorite fanfics on this site. (Which in this case means one of the few I actually read.) I hope it's as good as that one.
ReplyDelete@Ignaesia
ReplyDeleteThe Empire for Goats, basically.
And in It's Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door, doesn't it say that Ponyville is on the edge of Equestria? On the map it appears Ponyville is smack dab in the center of Equestria. Or am I thinking of a different fan fic.
And where is the dragon land of Carcosa, as mentioned in A Day for Spike and Twilight (another Jetfire fan fic). Of course, you may just be not counting that as canon (fanon?).
Nevertheless, a beautiful map, and so many puns! Antlertic Ocean, Canida, Hong Prong? rofl
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteI won't like Stargate Equestria any less for it :P
@showmetheblueprints
ReplyDeleteIt does. It says that Ponyville is right next to the Everfree Forest, which is the dividing line between Equestria and the rest of the world.
Now that is impressive.
ReplyDeleteI like how the area for Zebras an other hoofed animals was added in as well. Zecora certainly did travel a long way!
What creatures lives in germaney? And pls dont tell me evil nazi ponys.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love how it mentions other races!
ReplyDeleteBucking brilliant!
Wow. This fandom is friggen great! Sweet "Dangerous Buisiness" reference, but I dont remember the earth pony land having an "s" in the name (Gildedale as opposed to Gildesdale)
ReplyDeleteAlso, isn't it Froggy Bottom Bog?
ReplyDeleteAwesome map here. I read "Hoofluck" as something else initially... But this is a pretty nice map.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThis is really nice. It would be of immense help to a lot of writers (myself included) if we could agree on a fanon geography.
ReplyDeleteI particularly liked Foal Chi Mihn and Hong Prong.
I´m confused, how many fanfics are you guys talking about.
ReplyDeleteWhat´s the new one and what´s the old one. Do they share the same universe?
Wait, so there's a Maelstrom in Equestria?
ReplyDeleteIs this epic or what? Now i can finally see where they actually went in FO:E for example. Never had much sense of direction here...
ReplyDelete^^
Now just make an MMORPG out of this and i will be happy
ReplyDeleteThe Ley Lines remind me of the Grana Cliffs from Grandia 2. I feel sudden need to replay that game.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with this is that since it's partially based on Dangerous Business, having Appleloosa and the Buffalo Lands so far away from the mane location makes no sense. Why? In Dangerous Business, Applejack says that she's never traveled farther than Manehatten (which is in Equestria) But in this map Appleloosa is farther away then the Archback mountains themselves which contridicts what she said.
ReplyDeleteStill its a beautiful map
@Freekles1245
ReplyDelete"Where the World Ends" will be the future fanfic of the author, "It's Dangerous Business, leaving your door" and "Fallout: Equestria" are fanfics by others, whose locations are placed in this map.
From the author:
OK! So much coming in, let me try to answer some questions!
(First, thanks to everyone on EqD, so much support! I hope I don't disappoint!)
Why did you make this
First, to visualize the world my story is set in. What story? See the next question. But also so that I can have a small clipping of where the story is, at the top of each chapter.
What fic is this for?
It's for the one I'm writing, called "Where the World Ends". An epic length story. You can keep track of its progress (and learn more about it) here: [link]
I see references to
Yes! It's because I loved that fic! Fallout Equestria and Dangerous Business, to name two, were staples in my decision to start this fic.
However, my fic is *in no way* related to them. It takes place in a completely original setting (though I will be making a few references for the sharp brony to catch )
There are places missing!
Oh I know, the map isn't done yet. I already have a list of missing locations I intend to add. Many of your suggestions are on that list. But still! Feel free to suggest! I've already put in all the locations that are relevant to my story, the rest is just to flesh it out.
How'd you make this?!
Photoshop, a laptop trackpad and TLC patience. Thing is, I'm on vacation, away from my tablet. When I get back in September, I'll be burning through drafts in no time!
Is the tilted compass an artistic choice..? Usually, North points up. Like, perfectly up.
ReplyDeleteGreat map, though. I laughed my ass off at "Germaney." XD
Lol hong prong
ReplyDeleteI protest ! France should be somewhere around as there is some French Haute-Couture in Equestria ! ^^
ReplyDeleteLoving the puns ... liking the random "maelstrom"
ReplyDeletegood job, looking forward to the many 'fics' this will inspire as well as your own =D
we should make this in Minecraft!
ReplyDeleteWhere's Gallopfrey?
ReplyDeleteI was about to be completely disappointed until I saw Gildedale and Archback Mountains.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I needed, the Map is incredible. I just needed proof that Jetfire's genius exists in someone else's mind.
YES. MY FANFIC FITS INTO THIS MAP. SORT OF.
ReplyDeleteJust southwest of Equestria, below the 'Mild West' area, there's a large expanse of unclaimed land with a sizable peninsula sticking out of it. If said peninsula was significantly larger and and that whole landmass was expanded eastward, it would work.
Man, this map captures how I viewed Equestria and the northern territory almost exact to 'Hoennshy's' layout. Scary stuff.
ReplyDeleteReally awesome map.
@packdich Maybe they're goose-stepping Prussian ponies that look sort of like Lipizzaners?
ReplyDeleteI love the references to Dangerous Business. This map looks like a truly professional piece of work.
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteI particularly liked the names in the Ibex Empire and Griffon Kingdoms.
Woah. That's amazing.
ReplyDeleteHoly jeebus! Thanks for all the support!
ReplyDeleteI made the map for my own fic "Where the World Ends". References to Dangerous Business, FoE, etc. are just homages to awesome stories and their awesome authors.
Anyhow, I've answered a lot of your questions on my map's DA page :D so check it out.
Wow, one step closer to a Game of Thrones Pony Opening.
ReplyDeleteYou need a Castle of the Two Sisters, and a Salt Lick City. Maybe a Camelot with Actual Camels.
About Derbyshire:
ReplyDeleteWhile it is a real life place, I suggested it as a spin on the Kentucky Derby and other horse races. In truth, I use it as the home of my own group of OC's and thought it would be interesting to see it on the map. :)
Saying that, love the map as a whole!
I like to think that Cloudsdale is actually a floating city with no defined permanent location...just a path it follows around Equestria. Though that does bring up the question of how the border of Everfree Forest and "weather controlled" Ponyville works.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Dragonstone, The Wall, or King's Landing.
ReplyDeleteI see this map and the first thing that I think of is WARCRAFT.
ReplyDeleteWhat created the massive whirlpool Maelstrom in the centre of the map anyway? =P
Wow, so many fanfic references! Let's keep this world growing people! :D
ReplyDeleteDAMN THATS AWESOME! :D if they would use this map, there would be atleast 7 seasons *crosses hooves*
ReplyDeleteholy shit guys this gave me a great idea
ReplyDeleteeveryone ready?
ok so
Hasbro releases a complete Season 1 DVD/Blu Ray, and it includes a physical, official map of Equestria in the box
hmm.. I always thought of Stalliongrad and Equestria being in two different hemispheres, like the US and Russia.
ReplyDeleteThis map is SO AWESOME
ReplyDeleteWhere is Bronyville?
ReplyDeleteI can't find Buck-jing....
ReplyDeleteSo now that we have a map how long until we get a My Little Pony version of Risk?
ReplyDeleteI think it's cool that it has mantions of places from other popular fanfics. It has the lands mentioned in "It's a Dangerous Thing, Going out Your Door" and Dragon Mountain is from one of the better Doctor Whooves fanfics (By the dude that made the fic "12". Great story BTW/IMO/YMMV).
ReplyDeleteI was hoping to see Neighpon. I liked the fic about the mane casts adventures in Neghpon though it kinda clashes with the Doctor Whooves fic I mentioned. They share an antagonist.
Awesome! Great thing for any fic writers. And there should be "Brony" somewhere :P
ReplyDeleteWhere is the land of Here There Be Dragons?
ReplyDelete@Venlin: A lot of people are asking for that! I may just have to add it! XDD
ReplyDelete@Tobacco Smoke: I'll be adding a "Brony" in the next draft
@Echoed Walls: Neighpon's there, I've updated the map, look next to the Ibex Empire
If you want some "hoofball" playing ponies, you're going to need a Manechester City.
ReplyDeleteAs an alternative for your Japanese ponies, they could be from "Nippony"
ReplyDeleteOther funny pony place names:
Ponistan
Whinnyapolis
Neighples
Manetreal
Bangla-Dash
...and for a city in Germaney...
Stute-gart (Stute is German for "mare")
@FastRideOnAShortBus Awesome suggestions! Loving "Bangladash" (lived in Bangladesh for 4 years) :D
ReplyDeleteI've got no shortage of silly puns for pony locales. Feel free to groan at them:
ReplyDeleteFirst, a few places where you might find some real Equestria Girls...
Bay City - A good San Francisco reference, plus a "bay" is a type of horse.
Oatland - Bay City's crime ridden sister city (Oakland equivalent).
And is there crime in Equestria? If so, I'd imagine that offending ponies might be sent to "Foalsom Prison".
And a few more silly names...
New Yoke City (located in the Meadowlands?)
Tallahorsey or Tallahorssee (anypony for mint juleps?)
Applequerque (somewhere in the West?)
Neigh-jing
Neighbraska
Kloppenheim, Germaney (actually named after a real place)
Okay, I'd better stop. These are getting pretty bad. I still can't top Stalliongrad. That's the best name by far.
Cheers!
I have a slight problem with this map. I may just not be remembering right, but are we sure you have to cross a river to get to the Everfree Forest from Ponyville? I only remember the river in the forest itself.
ReplyDelete@jablechien
ReplyDeleteoh my god this is so cool i like
ReplyDeletewow its im lucky cuz i live right there where on this map is equestria omfg lol i looked at another site of a bigger version of this cool map and ive seen that i live right where is ponyvile O_O
ReplyDeletewell i found manehatten, phillydelthia, ponyvill, cloudsdale, canterlot, and even appleloosia. but where is totarus where cerberuse was supost to be garding
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! very creative and artistic. I don't mean to be "that guy", but I was wondering where the volcanoes are and where do the dragons migrate to and from? I kinda just guessed from Ursland and the mountainous region between Equestria and Ib'Xain, or maybe their trip is shorter, like between the Drackenridge Mountains and the mountain region west of Hoofington.
ReplyDeleteI'll be using this to get around, thx
ReplyDeleteHoofiet Union.
ReplyDeleteRussian Brony 4 eva.
I though that canterlot sits on a cliff over the ocean? other than that everything is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI find your lack of Mareami disturbing. >:|
ReplyDeleteGreat map though! :D
very well done, most maps i've seen don't include so great detail. but the assumtions though interesting, confuse me. also 3 mistakes that are very common in many maps are location of the everfree forest, which is east of ponyville (the direction the mane six first entered the everfree forest), canterlot not being the most northern settlement (the 3 tribes came from the north, first populating the area that became canterlot and expanding southward, shown in a map owned by granny smith consisting of the main populated areas of her time),and selecting where coastal regions are. there is an ocean, sea or great lake on the southern border of equestria, but how large remains to be seen. there is a slight tropical zone nearthis body of water but nothing of massive size and covers little. i know this for there has to be at least a large river leading to a large body of water for manehatten to have such successful industry with the age of coal and natural gas still anew, and the orange residents, along with other tropical fruits grown by pony families/business. this is all info i have collected from the show. id explain all he mistakes if i had time but can give common basics. sorry for the bad grammar and possibly over criticism, but i feel its my responsibility to inform geogrphical mistakes because of my stubborness. Also why is stalliongrad not in the hooviet union?
