I don't watch a whole lot of wrestling, but I didn't think any of them would ever pull a pony reference. This is probably a coincidence, but he did use Rarity's whining line word for word, then proceed to whine.
Who knows! Go speculate. The video and time is here!

Well...what do ya know. I suppose it's possible.
ReplyDeleteSuspicions...
ReplyDeleteAaaaugh. CENA. YOU ARE NOT TOPICAL.
ReplyDeleteWhimper, whine. Why'd it have to be Cena.I freaking hate Cena.
My friend told me about this while he was watching it. Seems to be mostly a coincidence, but you never know. *crosses fingers*
ReplyDeleteWell well well... Who knew?
ReplyDeletepffft please. Someone writes their dialog probably is though.
ReplyDeleteI believe he is one of us, a brony. Welcome to the herd. John, would you comfirm, please.
ReplyDeleteJohn Cena would like Rarity.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how to respond to that video. You're gonna have to give me some time to think about this...
ReplyDelete@Vermillion Twilight yeah, I'm almost certain it's one of the writers throwing in a MLP reference for the lulz
ReplyDelete@Vermillion Twilight
ReplyDeleteThey usually write their own promos. It's a basic part of being a wrestler, they don't have people who write what they say...it's not THAT scripted by others. They usually call the matches spot by spot too, just that the ending is pre-determined. Just FYI
Epic victory for all bronies around the world if he is.
ReplyDeleteEwww... "wrestling". Lmao. I dunno what's more funny. The "wrestling" or him using Rarity's whining line.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't put too much stock into this everyone. But I did double take when I heard this not a fan of wrestling but happened to tune in and heard this.
ReplyDeleteRex Ryan had a pony reference a couple weeks ago, when he said during a post-game interview "we lost. I HATE losing". Yeah, it's a huge stretch, but the thought of Ryan being a foot fetishist AND a brony was too funny to pass up.
ReplyDeleteStop whiiiiining! D:
ReplyDelete...anywho, Kudos to the brony who writes for WWE
This will not be a success until we add CM Punk to our army
ReplyDelete@ElementalOgre
ReplyDelete.......... Wow. Didn't expect YOU of all people to be here Ogre. I would have expected that more of Naka.
Watched that as it was on - me and my brother almost did a double take and laughed our asses off...
ReplyDeleteThat's definately a score for us!

ReplyDelete@Xanthestar
ReplyDeleteHmm... he may be a fan after all. According to his wikipedia page:
"He is a fan of Japanese animation and has mentioned that his favorite animated movie is Fist of the North Star. He has also said he is a fan of the video game series Command & Conquer and noted that it was his favorite game."
So there is the seed there, as he obviously isn't averse to potentially geeky media like oldschool anime and strategic PC games. Interesting.
I was actually looking for information on if he had a young daughter as that might have been a clue as to where he might have heard that dialogue, but it seems he's more than meets the eye. Good for him then.
I'm guessing this is related. Found it a while back, dug it back up when this post came up. Dunno about the accuracy of the comparisons.
ReplyDeletehttp://ponibooru.413chan.net/post/view/46672?search=WWE
That's...okay, that's a stretch to say that's a pony reference. If it were word-for-word the same, then you might have something, but this honestly seems more like a really awesome coincidence than a definite sign of Cena being a fan.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Seth, you need to watch WWE. It's like a soap opera, except the acting's mostly terrible and everyone's trying to kill each other. It's pretty much the greatest thing ever.
This just made my night.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I was perfectly comfortable hating John Cena.
ReplyDeleteIf Cena really is a brony I'll have to actually like him. *shudder*
Way too close to Rarity's lines to be mere coincidence. Great find.
ReplyDeleteNah, seems like a coincidence to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat better place to find an over-compensating, machismo-loving, pony-hater than in a professional wrestler? :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csPPqdbcVwM After watching this clip, the tone and the delivery of the line are too close to call it a simple coincidence and I'm not one to stretch things out for obscure pony references
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time he's mentioned MLP. First time was before wrestlemania against THE MIZ.
ReplyDeleteIt's the perfect amount of ambiguity. You wouldn't even suspect it was a reference to ANYTHING at all if you were just a WWE fan and knew nothing of MLP.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's just enough to obviously be close to Rarity's winning line from A Dog and Pony show if you were a brony.
...what typo?
Im not sure what to make of this.
ReplyDelete>>What better place to find an over-compensating, machismo-loving, pony-hater than in a professional wrestler? :P
ReplyDeletemeebe a wrestling fan may claim to hate them, but them wraslers? man, they're muscled kids who get paid to pretend to fight, boast and act silly, they're down whit most toons.
then again, wrestling scripts are goopy-gooey on memejuice, I wouldn't put it past them to drop references to things they haven't seen just to keep trending.
I respect Cena as a person. He is one of the hardest working people in the business. That being said, I don't like him as a wrestler.
ReplyDeleteEither way, it would be pretty cool if he was a brony.
Meh.
ReplyDeleteI think it's purely coincidental.
Still funny though.
Hahah. I actually had Raw on in the background tonight and I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard this. This isn't the first time Cena's mentioned MLP before either. He brought it up a few months ago in a promo with the Miz.
ReplyDeleteI was watching Raw tonight with my brother (also a brony) and we noticed immediately, and both said the line word for word. It was awesome. I actually wouldn't be surprised at all if he was.
ReplyDelete@Aquaman52 "Also, Seth, you need to watch WWE. It's like a soap opera, except the acting's mostly terrible and everyone's trying to kill each other."
ReplyDeleteSoooooo... it's EXACTLY like a soap opera, then? (Except everyone's wearing spandex.) ;-)
Inb4 Can you smell what the rock is cooking.
ReplyDeleteCould be a mere coincidence, although with how similar it was it just seems to be unlikely. My only hope is that he is a fan, and isn't just trying to be trendy by dropping it in.
ReplyDelete@HAIL MANDALORE
ReplyDeleteExactly what I was thinking.
I used to be a wresting fan back in the day. I haven't seen wresting in a long time. Though it would be nice if its a reference...were slowly taking over the world!
ReplyDeleteDoesnt seem as much of a MLP referance as much of just a coinkidink. (WORD OF THE DAY B*TCHES
ReplyDeleteLMFAO, I never would have thought Cena was a brony
ReplyDeleteThat is both frikkin' awesome and hilarious :D
ReplyDeleteI´m sure he was impersonating Rarity.
ReplyDelete@NOFURR funny thats what i was thinking. Rarity smells what the rock is cooking.
ReplyDeleteIf Cena is a brony, he needs to go back to the stable, because the community doesn't need THAT kind of brony. I know that sounds mean, but there isn't enough love and tolerance in the world to make me like John Cena.
ReplyDeletejohn just got 20% cooler.
ReplyDeleteWhy'd it have to be Cena? I have nothing against him as a person. He does seem like a great guy, but his wrestling is mediocre at best. Though if the reference was intentional, that is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteIf this is a legit reference my friends are gonna keep wondering why the hell is it spreading THIS FAR.
ReplyDeleteSeems more coincidental to me.
ReplyDeleteCoincidental, but a really funny coincidence at that.
ReplyDelete@Xanthestar
ReplyDeleteThe ending, and some of the major spots. There are honestly some spots that need planning and rehearsing, and they are usually the ones that make or break a match.
@Sumo310
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan, honestly.
nah it was probably the WWE writers that did it
ReplyDeleteWow, never though that I'd be happy to see John Cena do anything. I think I have respect for him now, or at the very least the guy who writes for him.
ReplyDeleteLol @ some of the comments on this post.
ReplyDelete"Love and tolerance, unless you look like the jocks that picked on me in high school."
Saw this happen last night with my roommate and the first thing he said was "Wait... did he just quote My Little Pony?"
ReplyDeleteJohn Cena just got 20% cooler.
@noseratum
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly I haven't followed it much lately, but it was my possibly wrong understanding that Cena's on camrea character is kind of SUPPOSED to be an arrogant douche, so disliking him is kinda the point.
@Tk3997
ReplyDeleteCena's character is actually pretty much the supernice guy superhero character Hulk Hogan used to be a long while back - problem is, he's been that way for the last 10 years and has grown somewhat stagnant in the role via the booking and writing. People also tend to hate him because they do not care for his being a brawler-type ( "Can't wrestle" - Rock never really wrestled, and yet HE was somehow more acceptable? Double standard. also, mostly false, as he HAS wrestled fairly well in many occasions.)
However, his character is not intentionally a 'douche' of any type...just more the kinda guy who's way too upstanding in any TV show to appear in any way 'genuine' to anyone.
Now I can make my cousin a brony. Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteI still can't get over the 'breath smells like funnel cake stuffed with dog crap.'
ReplyDeleteIt's a coincidence. Cena's done the fake whining bit a couple of times before, my favorite being here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSCjeMqg8rE&feature=related
ReplyDeleteI watched it last night and my mind jumped immediately to that conclusion. Whether it's a coincidence or intentional remains to be seen, however.
ReplyDeleteIf he is a true brony, we shall see more veiled references and nods to come.
John Cena just became 20% cooler in my eyes. He's still not my favorite wrestler... Taker, Kane or Triple H would probably be my personal favorites, but he's definitely earned some additional respect and admiration from me JUST for the MLP reference. And no, his quoting of Rarity's whining in "A Dog and Pony Show" ISN'T coincidence. So, essentially, he is one of us... A brony. That's pretty cool. I'd like to personally welcome John Cena to the herd.
ReplyDelete@TheLawn
ReplyDeleteNot entirely. Cena can't wrestle to save his life.
@Vinyl Scratch
ReplyDeleteThe Rock also has a ridiculous amount of charisma that Cena seems to be be lacking, but that's just my opinion.
Definite Brony
ReplyDeleteHe has the saying "You can't see me!" or something. Well, we definitely didn't see THIS coming.
ReplyDeleteGreat. Now I'm going to be flanking drawing inappropriate connections between Fist of the North Star and My Little Pony.
ReplyDeleteSpike: You are already exploded.
Fluttershy: I mean if that's okay by you.
I don't follow wrestling so I have no idea who this is, but the more manly bronies there are the better
ReplyDeleteYou mean I wasn't the only person to make that connection? Thank Celestia! For a while I was wondering if the ponies had rotted my brain.
ReplyDeleteThat said, welcome to the herd, Cena. Even if Rainbow Dash and Gilda hate your guts.
Annnnd how long before we see a brony wrestler as a gimmick? Come on, Vinny Mac, you've never been too proud to appeal to the lowest common denominator before; give us our rasslin' MLP fanboy!
Seems like a coincidence to me, but I suppose you never know!
ReplyDeletei'm sorry but i can't imagine Cena being a brony
ReplyDeleteit's probably the writer or something
WWE Diva AJ Lee likes MLP she's a fan of Twilight Sparkle, but I highly doubt Cena is a Brony. It's just a coincidence and he probably has no clue about it even if he is an anime fan. WWE has made references before though may be tweaked a little, but you still know. I highly doubt Cena is a brony and I am a Cena fan.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIf he was a brony it wouldn't matter to me, but I highly doubt it just all a coincidence.
ReplyDeleteWhat have we done? D:
ReplyDelete>MFW John Cena whining
Oh hai. Mah video is here. No wonder it's getting so many views. Well well well~
ReplyDeleteNot denying that it may be coicidence, or that it's a brony writer, BUT it does seem pretty close. Either way, gotta admit it's awesome.
Uhh... never mind. Didn't notice somepony else a similar video...
ReplyDeleteI think its legit. Admittedly, I know nothing about wrestling except for unfortunate 90's stereotypes, but thats neither here nor there. What makes me say its NOT a coincidence is not that he pulled the line, but the fact that the first thing he complained about was something fashion related. Whats-his-faces fake tan? Of all things, why that? No, he would have to know that Rarity was involved in fashion. One line? coincidence. A line and something else related very closely to the line? No way. We got another one, bronies.
ReplyDeleteCena's a broney poeple call me a broney and I hate it but MLP: FIM is bit cool
ReplyDelete
