Honestly it's not like I disagree with what you're trying to communicate here. Of course saving kids from stuff that's not suitable for them is important, and I definitely understand when people (like you and ironically me as well) don't want their ponies to get over-sexualized. But it's something that comes along with any kind of fandom. Maybe you're right and sites like this should be a little more careful with their posts...
I for myself still feel that a post like this isn't outrageous in any way. It sure is suggestive and slightly provoking, yet it doesn't cross a line where children could take any harm, at least not in my book.

@Darkfoxx You do realize that furry auto-overlaps pretty much everything, right? Most basic definition of furry is adding human traits to animals- which MLP does.
ReplyDeleteTechnically that's anthropomorphosizing, but that pretty much translates to furry as furry is any particularly strong sort of enjoyment of such things.
Furry does not = pervert instantly.
These are just clarifications.
As for how 'adult' things have been around here. I wouldn't rate it past a PG-13 at the most extreme levels. The worst you get is something suggestive like this picture or ponies in lingerie or something. And Conan already did puppies in lingerie on his show XD

And I agree, children themselves wont be harmed by this particular picture in any way. They wont see the suggestiveness. But their parents will.
All I'm arguing for, warning against is that the owners and mods of this site decide what direction it should have, purely PG (so no no grimdark and whatnot either) OR post warnings on the front page that there might be more mature materials here, so that parents know this is not the kid freindly site it so much appears to be.
Right now, it's hanging somewhere in the middle and only if you regularly visit here you can see that this is not very suitable for kids. Which is a risk, and a responsibility the mods and especially the owner of this blog cannot ignore and have to take.
Lest it gets taken for them and they'll have the authorities looking deeper into EqD and what happens here.
That would be a shame, because I really do love EqD and wouldn't want to see it go.

ReplyDeleteI can't tell how many non adult-only sites have I seen that had material more harmful than, for example, this picture - both in their content and the community itself, without a warning whatsoever. I don't think that sexuality is something to be frowned upon, nor is the portrayal of it - we don't mind them seeing it in literature or art. That's unrelated, though.
Not that children should even use the internet.
Being warned about possible offensive content is fine, but I feel it would cause distress in the visitors, hence I am against it - it suggests that this blog is like After Dark, when in reality, only part of its content is suggestive.
If it needed, I'd accept a warning, of course.
Now, about you not wishing to see anything mature:
if you follow a site which is edited by people who like (or don't mind) mature material and has a community of people with a similar perspective, you'd be better off just ignoring the news you don't like, without a filtering feature available.
@Darkfoxx EQ Daily is a universal news site on the subject of Pony. Good news, bad news, funny news. If the kid is too young for this site I don't know that I would want them left alone with the internet anyway.

ReplyDeleteNow, I personally am a Furry. I don't want to do it with animals, rather, I am fascinated by anthropomorphic creatures with sapience. I personally like being surprised with pictures like this cause they make me smile and it's fun to read all the comments.
I just personally feel ppl like pegasi (who always whine about anything semi-suggestive or sexual yet happen to always somehow click the link... even seen that kid in FIMCHAN... so, I think he might have some denial issues) irk me something fierce cause they try to seem so "above" everyone else's supposed perversion.
As for yourself Darkfoxx, I am sorry if I was overly forceful but I think you are being a little "chicken little" worrying that the sky is falling. The horrible portrayal of furries actually seems to have died down significantly. You get more legitimate interviews now. You get cons everywhere- welcomed and treasured as sources of income for the local economy.

ReplyDeleteIf a parent sees this they probably have the amount of intelligence to read through some posts and fathom the fact that this site is meant for bronies and not drooling kids. Think about it. Most parents will only want their kids to see it if it's a very young daughter, since most little boys don't give a crap about ponies. If the parents are dumb enough to let their kids read it without even looking at the posts, then they're probably unintelligent in different ways. Most people I know who wouldn't read the posts to be sure don't know what a web browser is (they all end up using IE), they talk lik tis wit no good grammer, they are slow, etc.
Besides, how's a parent going to come across this site anyways? What parents deliberately searches for pony websites for his/her 6-year-old daughter?
Because that's the intended demographic for the toys and show.
Also, I went and searched for "pony site" on Google, closest thing to a site partially unsafe for kids was My Little Brony. Equestriadaily didn't appear in the first five results pages. No parent is going to dig that far for a pony website to show their daughter.

ReplyDeleteBut, regarding S008's question, "couldn't it be your very own approach (that of the furries) that has caused so much hassle?" I readily admit that I was not a solution to the problem no. I'm a furry porn artist. (I will not be part of a similar problem to this fandom, just for the record.)
But where I dont care about the furry rep because they already had that when I discovered it, this fandom is still relatively innocent in the outside public opinion. And I think it deserves to stay that way.
And I really, really dont give a hoot how much hardcore clop anyone ever enjoys or makes. Really. But keep that, and the wholesome material strictly seperated, so you guys dont HAVE to face the same shit the furry fandom has had to endure for so very long.
TL;DR furry was unfixable when I found it. Please, learn from their (our) mistakes.
I've made my point, and will now shut up as requested.
(PS the picture really *is* very nice. Even tho a little bit too suggestive for my personal pony art collection. Blame my perverted furfag brain.)

ReplyDeleteWhat I meant is that none of us have considered this a real problem, as far as I know. To me, it always seemed that most furries worry too much, especially about themselves being associated with something most of them are not because of some extreme individuals.
I understand the size of their community and that it's important to keep their name clean - I just don't think that trying to avoid the slightest possibility of giving the wrong idea to someone is worth all that drama and arguing that I've seen them do on the internet.
I find this quite similar, since Darkfoxx seems to firmly believe that this will cause an outrage if the site doesn't get updated with a warning about possible adult content. It'd have never occured to me as the potential reason for bronies to be condemned; but to he, it did.
I might be wrong, of course, this is just a roughly-formed opinion.

The fact that Rule34 of FiM exists doesn't even bother me. What DOES bother me is the fact, that ponibooru allowed porn.
This breaches the line between the normal fans and the people who fap to it. It makes the porn a bigger part of the fandom, then it should be.
Where did this also happen? Oh yeah, in the furry fandom!

About censorship, I generally meant the avoidance of suggestive material. And to answer your question, I firmly believe that most bronies don't care about FiM porn, even less like it. "Shipping" is a different category, though, given that it's not adult material.
On the whole, I agree with Darkfoxx on most accounts - the Brony reputation is in a delicate place right now, and I think we should be doing everything we can to protect it. However, as somepony said earlier, the parents of little girls won't be visiting this website. And it the unlikely event that they do visit this website, it will probably be at a time when there is nothing suggestive on the front page. And if they bother rooting through the archives of Equestria Daily looking for porn, then I think that they're just being over-protective.

Sure, they might enjoy it, but that doesn't mean that they like the show any less than you'd do, or that they are less intelligent or mannered than any of us, or that they are not capable of normal discussion. If you can believe in them, you can probably get over this concern of yours.
This might have sounded a bit silly, but what are we to do if not accept everyone? :p

But once Season 2 rolls around there will be more focus on the show instead of the fandom. Which is really what the community needs imo. Kind of a reset if you will for the community.
